Race the Sun flies onto PS3, PS4 and PS Vita next week with exclusive new content

Cult reflex action game hits PlayStation with extra Labyrinthia world

It was back in March when we announced that Race the Sun would be coming to PlayStation, and we’ve been working hard on the game ever since. Today we are pumped to announce that the game is finally ready and will land on 22nd October!

We really wanted things to feel great on every platform, so we’ve spent a lot of time refining the experience on each system. The result is that we have the game running at a full 60fps (at 1080p resolution) on both PS3 and PS4, and PS Vita is also looking and feeling great.

We have implemented cross-save and shared leaderboards on all supported platforms because we wanted to make the setup perfect for challenging friends to a highscore contest.

If you aren’t familiar with Race the Sun, here are a few things your should know:

  • Race the Sun is all about speed and survival
  • You play as a solar-powered craft that slows down in the shadows
  • You die when the sun goes down (or you crash)
  • You can catch up to the sun (and delay your death) by grabbing speed boosts
  • As you complete objectives you will unlock helpful power-ups and attachments
  • The leaderboards (along with the world) are regenerated every 24 hours
  • The controls are simple, but the game can be very hard
  • The game will be a Cross-Buy title on PS3, PS4, PS Vita and PlayStation TV

On top of the core game, we’ve also added a new unlockable world that will be exclusive to PlayStation at release. The world is called “Labyrinthia” and it is a bit of a departure from the usual extreme speeds of Race the Sun.

Here’s a video with some new gameplay footage:

We wanted to add a different type of challenge to the game, so we slowed things down in Labyrinthia and used a higher camera view. The challenge comes in looking ahead and planning your route through a dense maze of obstacles. We’ve designed bunch of new traps that take concentration (and possibly trial and error) to figure out.

One other thing to note: Unlike the main endless world of Race the Sun, Labyrinthia can be beat! The world is still regenerated every 24 hours to keep things interesting, but those with the skill to conquer region 4 can truly say they have beat a world in Race the Sun.

WOW a simple game that can handle 60fps AND ( 1080P ) ! WOW…

Looks good. Im definitely interested. How much will it be?

I have been waiting for this. I thought like 1001 spikes that it had disappeared without a reason. I am excited for next Wednesday :)

Custom soundtrack for PS3/Vita PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

Oh, and to the failed abortions who say something like “who cares about custom soundtrack get a walkman lol”, this right here is an excellent reason for that option:

Can’t have custom soundtrack on PS3 because of the RAM limitation. It isn’t possible. This issue has been mentioned many times, and on Vita there just isn’t any need for it. Simple.

Custom soundtracks worked fine in Killzone 2.

I was thinking about this game this week, along with Son of Scoregasm, and pretty much thought, where the heck are these games? Wasn’t this suppose to be released in the Summer, and it’s now Autumn? I say this ’cause there was a launch trailer in June, JUNE, I have no idea why they uploaded the video in June when it was nowhere in sight for PS4,PS3, PS Vita. Sorry but that was kinda a fail upload. It would be pretty cool if Son of Scoregasm was released next week too along with this game as that’s 2 games that come out of nowhere like Randy Orton’s RKO Vines.

I really like this game, since the wonderful reveal trailer. Hopefully it’s priced reasonably.

Thank you Sony for all great Indie games don’t give them up just because some idiots aren’t able to appreciate this art! Keep supporting new creative minds!

If the PS blog did a feature on Ebola you’d probably still say that.

Already played this on PC but might pick it up again if it goes on sale sometime. Labrynthia looks interesting!

This looks pretty good, id definitely grab it in a sale or on the IGC.

I’m sure the devs would love to hear it that you’d download it for PS+, har har.

No point lying. Brutal honesty is still honesty

Where’s Nidhogg.

Any idea on price? I’m hoping it’s not extortionate and matches the Steam version of £6.99.

So you state the game Race the Sun is 1080p and 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4, but you cannot be bothered to state what resolution and frame rate the game is on the PlayStation Vita.

I’m only interested in the PlayStation Vita version of this game, and I will not be buying this game if the PlayStation Vita version of this game is running below the PlayStation Vita’s native resolution.

Price will be 10 bucks = 7.8 euros.

/sarcasm off

its probably another 5 minute wonder unless the trailer was a small part of it if the game only involves flying an aircraft and trying not to crash then wear is the fun in that i don’t think i would even download it as a PS plus freebie as for buying it not a chance
