Senran Kagura Bon Appetit! launches exclusively on PS Vita next month

Shinobi warriors swap swords for spatulas in this tantalising rhythm/cooking delight

Fighting and cooking… while on the surface they seem worlds apart, if you study them closely, they are much the same. They both require dedication, concentration, creativity, and, of course, expert blade skills.

For this reason, legendary shinobi and keen chef ‘Master Hanzo’ believes that a truly gifted student might just be capable of knocking up a fabled Super Dish. The aforementioned Super Dish is something so bountiful and delicious, words cannot describe its tastiness.

PSCB00602_SENRANKAGURABonAppetit_8PSCB00602_SENRANKAGURABonAppetit_9PSCB00602_SENRANKAGURABonAppetit_10

Being the cunning fox he is, Master Hanzo has devised a plan to convince the shinobi warriors of the Senran Kagura franchise to cook for him. He will hold a grand competition, with a prize so wonderful and magical, nobody in their right mind could resist. The first annual ‘Super Dish Gourmet Cook-off’ will offer the winner a Secret Ninja Art Scroll; a magical item that grants one wish to whomever possesses it. Such a prize will surely entice all of the girls to compete, and a gathering of so many Shinobi in one place is bound to bring drama, chaos and a smorgasbord of titillating antics!

Unlike previous entries in the Senran Kagura series, Bon Appetit! veers away from its beat ’em up roots and into new territory. Players’ reflexes, memory and reaction speeds are all put to the test, with fast-paced rhythm/action gameplay combined with delightful and infectious Japanese music.

PSCB00602_SENRANKAGURABonAppetit_1PSCB00602_SENRANKAGURABonAppetit_6PSCB00602_SENRANKAGURABonAppetit_2

There are 10 songs to perfect and 10 super dishes to create from day one, with plenty more to come via the Gessen x Hebijo DLC pack. Each shinobi has their own unique story spread over five cooking battles, so there’s plenty more to learn about each and every character.

In addition to this, all character and costume DLC from the other PS Vita exclusive title Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus is compatible with Bon Appétit!, and all players that download the SENRAN KAGURA Bon Appétit! Gessen x Hebijo DLC pack will be treated to a free soundtrack app featuring songs from the game.

While Bon Appétit! may not be for everyone, it’s often the acquired taste that gives the most satisfaction ;) Download it digitally for PS Vita via the PlayStation Store on 12th November 2014.

This will definitely save the Vita.

2.1

The Vita is alive and well!

Attention:

Marvelous Europe lied to its customer saying that Europe will get the same version of SV as NA got. In fact, they censored it by removing some of the subtitles from game. They censored it on their own, and it had nothing to do with rating systems, as one of gamers already contacted USK and got confirmation from them.

They LIED to customers, they released deficient digital edition for 30 EUR.

For 33 EUR You could have pre-order day-1 edition “let’s get physical” from canadian store with book and soundtrack. Now that very book will be sold separately in EU.

DO NOT SUPPORT THEM. We already got confirmation that Bon Apetite will also be censored.

3.1

Man,what a bomb!! hahaha!!And you throw it here xD One question:the censored parts, those subtitles are very important?Or you can play or live without them?
I read they did it to pass different rating systems and have a same date to Europe and US.A way less expensive to bring the game now.

@jon_h_blake
Yes I am speaking of subtitles removed from store and dressing room.

Marvelous Europe decided on their own to remove them even before sending copy for rating. And as USK (german rating board which by many is considered as the most problematique) already replied that removed by Marvelous EU content wouldn’t affect the rating.

Meaning that Marvelous Europe removed that without any sense at all.

And I don’t know any example of censoring which would make game unplayable… do you?

Thanks for marginalizing European customers, again.

So Shinovi Versus did well on the EU PS Store with 151 ratings, compared to the US store which only had 146 ratings (5 less ratings than on the European Store. I know that not everyone rates the games they bought from PS Store, but still that’s like 5 ratings more compared to the US) and yet we get the same treatment? Yep, I’m not buying Bon Apptetite. I won’t support a discrimating company.

how many games have you made ?

@Valwin

What a stupid thing to say.

4.3

To be fair if you buy the physical version you cant rate it on on the PSstore.

But still going digital only with the superior sequel on a superior platform while Burst sold good in the EU sends a very wrong message to your customers. And they deserve getting called out on it every single time.

And no i will not be buying Bon Appetit from Marvellous EU but from XSEED instead on my US account. After all last time i supported Senran Kagura in the EU i got punished for it with a digital only release of Shinovi Versus.

Um…what? Didn’t realize this was going to be arriving so soon after SV, I actually love everyone who made It possible to bring game over to europe.

5.1

I hope it is a pleasant surprise :)

don’t get*

“In addition to this, all character and costume DLC from the other PS Vita exclusive title Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus”.

So, i suppose this means you will be releasing the DLC on the store as well?

7.1

Correct! We’ll be announcing more on that very subject soon :)

7.2

Week 1 DLC is available now!

I don’t support Digital releases overall, but since Bon Apetit was released digital worldwide (original japan release was digital), but yeah, Shinovi Versus Let’s get Physical was a no brainer, the only reason to buy it EU digitally was to support Marvelous.
Gonna buy Bon Apetit in EU anyway, dunno the censorship you’re talking about, but the real culprit here is SONY and the ridiculously retarded shop restriction… Looks like we’re back into the dark age of videogames >_> at least I’ve been buying less games because of this kinda crap.

Looking forward to grabbing it! Glad to see us EU people getting it aswell, even if its just digital~
Still havent touched Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus yet, but bought it on release. Maybe i should work on that before this is out :P

9.1

Get playing! :p

10

Incredibly obscure, japanese, vita and gay! Next in line a high school dating game or vacuum cleaner simulator?

I got Senran Kagura SV great fun game surprise how funny it was in some parts i will get this one too

11.1

Glad to hear you are enjoying SHINOVI VERSUS :) I would say Bon Appétit is even funnier – it’s pretty surreal at times!

12

Can you confirm if it will support PlayStation TV?

12.1

Do you mind if I get back to you on that? I need to check :)

12.2

This question needs an answer. This is the deciding factor for me buying this game or not.

12.3

I’m still checking on this – I’ve spoken to someone from the development team and I think it will be supported, but I need to talk to someone at Sony to make sure. Please don’t take this is confirmation!

Will this be available in Saudi Arabia, please?
Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus wasn’t available, so I doubt this will
But I hope so

I love this Franchise and since I bought the EU SV Version, i will buy Bon Appetit too cause of the DLC. Very good Thing thank you. I will import the physical Release from Japan as well. SV is so great played 10 Hours and not eben finished my frist School Gessen. Hope I will until the Release Date.

Will Wednesday come the first DLC for SV?

15

That would be awesome. :)

16

damn i already pre-ordered the physical japan release which is also in next month……….
didnt except this game to make it way to EU this fast considering the sad localisation history of our PAL region 0_0

16.1

We’re attempting to change that sad history for the better!

16.2

@Steven Tarry
Than start by uncensoring and releasing with retail both Bon Apetite and Shinovi Versus.

17

Great news! More life and hometown!

Looking forward to pricing details.

17.1

The estimated retail price is €14.99 for the ‘main game’, but that is not confirmed :)

17.2

Thanks! I’ll hold you to that! :P

I’m going to blame you folks in Kent for making me feel like a pervert…I’m actually OK with that :D

Now I just need time to play them all.

Marvelous AQL your sure are becoming the next ATLUS for europe and shafting us over.

first the lame digital only release for shinovi which i won’t be buying same as this 1.
shinovi i will be importing when i get paid but you guys sure show you don’t care much for fans with censorship and digital releases.

What? No physical for Europe? What a letdown… With most of my friends and me included thinking that we could get a retail release only ONCE in Europe… we sure are really dissapointed.

I know they need budget and authorizations but hey, the series are more popular in Europe so that isn’t a valable excuse; I call that being lazy.

Whatever, I shouldn’t be demanding this since they took the risk and effort releasing those games.
I really hope they don’t let me down on the next release, and keep up with the good work.

21

I have a few questions.

I remember that the original Japanese version was released in two parts (each with separate trophy list IIRC) – how are going to handle this in EU?

Also please let us know if you are going to make some further edits (other than removing the subtitles). I’m kinda okay with what you did to pass ratings in SV, but I won’t support removal of actual game content/mechanics.

Furthermore, are you going to release all the DLC that are available on Japanese PSN?

Lastly if this and SV sell well can we expect a physical release of Estival Versus and a LE similar to the one available to American players?

21.1

Hey,

I accidentally posted my reply as a new comment, so check it out below!

I hope it helps to clear some things up for you.

22

will releasing in saudi arabia ?
what about Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus any play for release ?

22.1

Neither game will be released in Saudi Arabia at this point in time. This may change though, so please keep an eye out.

22.2

Saudi Arabia goes with Region-2 games (europe and others) so… Yes it is.

22.3

Wait what

Hey Smile

Thanks for your questions! I’ll do my best to answer them for you without giving too much away ;)

1. The ‘main game’ so to speak will feature the Hanzo Academy and Crimson Squad. We will be releasing a ‘Gessen x Hebijo DLC pack’ at some point in the weeks post-launch. This piece of DLC will come with additional trophies. I know some people were upset that the trophy list for SHINOVI VERSUS was shared between the JP and the EU version, so I need to check if that is also the case with Bon Appétit!.

2. As mentioned on our forums and in this thread, subtitles will not be present in the dressing room in both SHINOVI VERSUS and Bon Appétit!. I can confirm that no content or mechanics have been removed from EITHER game.

3. I believe we will be releasing all DLC. If not, it will certainly be the vast majority. There are a few promotional items that were given away in Japan, and these are slightly more complicated for us. We’ll keep you guys updated on this.

4. We haven’t confirm...

I hope this clears some things up, and if you have any other questions please let me know.

Oh great you don’t even care to address problems, way to go, sir.

Why did you decided to censor both games? Subtitles ARE integral content, you don’t understand that? Simple as that, you keep avoiding answering this simple question. Why are you not willing to fix YOUR MISTAKE. What stand on your way?

“We made the decision to leave the Japanese speech with the original voiceover in the dressing room to ensure the game was approved by the various age ratings agencies” Those are words from your official page, right? Please explain yourself.

Tell us why? You are doing great job by discouraging people to even believe in Marvelous Europe. This is outrageous that Mr. Tom from XSEED (what a great guy!) was willing to say more than any of you guys working in Europe. Your whole community page is filled with voices asking you to explain it, to fix it! And you keep acting like nothing ever happened.

And I really do hope that you won’t pick up any more games, IF you are going to keep censoring games and releasing them only as over-priced digital only. Senran Kagura after success of Burst in Europe would be published with or without you, either XSEED NA would release it or NISA. So don’t flatter yourself, you didn’t earn gratitude just yet.

We know that you didn’t even tried to release the game with subtitles. Ias long you don’t hear us, I will not longer support you. You never told us why you did that

You censored your own product and lied to us by saying everything is like the US-Version. We trust you and you cheated us.

The thing is, you lied to your customers.

@Archacus: No, subtitles aren’t “integral content”. The game still runs without them. Stop exaggerating, especially given that it’s just for certain parts of the game where it’s just a girl reacting to the clothes you put her in.

No, they’re not making people have trouble believing in them. You’re the one trying to rubbish the company and dissuade people from buying this and any future games they make.

And for the last time, digital gaming isn’t inherently a bad thing. In many ways it is cheaper (PSN aside), faster and more convenient for general consumption. Having a physical copy of a game doesn’t make it better. In many cases it’s nice to have a physical copy, yes. But it’s not always practical for a developer or publisher to release every single game they make physically. You shouldn’t expect smaller titles or niche localisations to have physical releases, especially on Vita where the install base is already remarkably small.

Is there any chances for a Senran Kagura retail game bundle (Shinovi versus + Bon Appétit) like Japan did?
In US or EU?
Please let us know.

Honestly, I would say this is unlikely at this point. These things can change pretty fast though, so never say never.

Will this game work on Playstation TV?

26

Wait, are you still doing digital only? If you can’t release a game which was retail in other regions, just give it up and let a publisher which actually can release the game propetly do the release. This way just insults potential customers and create no goodwill towards the publisher in whole.

Uhm…what is actually censored? What does it say? The censored part that is.

madmanwithabox12 21 October, 2014 @ 19:12
27.1

Nothing important. Just a few reaction phrases during character customisation.

All subtitles in the dressing room were completely removed. The US version still has them, so you’re better off getting the US version.

Ahh that kinda sucks, not a deal breaker but it sucks. Anyway, the chaps in Kent probably don’t have the biggest budget and if they don’t break even I guess Marvelous will pull out from EU. I don’t want that so I’m supporting this but making sure they hear my complaints.

Sadly, i’ll have to get the US version of this mostly because i’ve ordered the physical release of Shinovi Versus. I want to use the DLC fron Shinovi in Bon Appetit. If there was a European retail version, i would’ve bought it (and Bon Appetit aswell).

28.1

Hey Berryhype

You do make a good point – most if not all of the DLC from SHINOVI VERSUS is compatible with Bon Appétit, but I believe you would need the European (or American) version of both for this to work correctly.

x5th-of-November 21 October, 2014 @ 19:27
29

I really shouldn’t buy this game because of your censoring to be honest.

And the worst part is that you tried to hide it. You’re the ones to blame for this backlash just because you had to censor something that wasn’t in need of censoring.

Maybe you’ve forgtotten how it usually goes but:

USA = SEX is BAD, EUROPE = SEX is NOT BAD. And we aren’t even talking about sex, etc.

30

Steven Tarry
Why are you avoiding the fact that people are not in the slightest pleased at what MAQL EU has done to the EU release of the game when it was said that our version was going to be IDENTICAL to the US version?
you pointlessly censored the game, a game I was very much looking forward to, but now, I will have to side with XSEED and buy their versions of these games, because as it stands, I, Like many others, cannot trust you.

31

Steven Tarry

Why do you choose to ignore the issue that you pointlessly censored both Shinovi Versus and now Bon apetite?
you have lied to and cheated your customers and are now refusing to comment as to why.

Are there any Senran PSN Avatars coming to EU?

32.1

Yes they are! This should happen in the next month or so I believe.

@Steven Tarry
All of them? Because the lack of Muramasa Rebirth avatars compared to what the US store has, bothers me a bunch.

32.3

There will be a single avatar for every character available to purchase individually, on top of this there will be four bundles – one for each faction. Hopefully they will be out towards the end of November!

same month as hatsune miku project diva f 2nd.. ohhh no

I appreciate Marvelous publishing these games in EU and AU, but I absolutely despite digital-only releases. Especially on the Vita, where this game alone would take up like half my memory card. Sorry guys! I’ll be importing the physical option once again (retail version comes out in Japan next month, budget priced).

34.1

No problem!

I hope you enjoy the game however you play it.

35

Can we get a demo of this? Unlike Shinovi Versus, this one is a rhythm game. Those of us used action games may not be so comfortable to the genre. Give us a demo so we can determine whether this spin-off still interests us.

Having fun with SV so far. I’ll be sure to grab this too if the estimated price above is correct.

I love that we are getting this games coming out in the west, but I would love it even more if we had the option for physical versions as well!

37

It’s such a great time to be a Vita owner if you’re into Japanese games! Freedom Wars, Tales of Hearts R, Senran Kagura, Project Diva F 2nd… This game looks like fun! Don’t care about the removal of subs, don’t care about it not being physical for that price (€14,99). Thanks for bringing these games to us :) I do understand some people would want physical copies, though. But hey, if these games gain even more popularity, it might be possible in the future. Boycotting the digital releases is NOT the way to go, lol.

If he wants a Super Dish, and he has a Secret Ninja Art Scroll that grants him his one wish. Why doesn’t he just wish for a Super Dish?

Oh, because then we couldn’t have a creepy game for creepers for whom (judging by the comments) the major selling point appears to be girls saying things when you dress them up in skimpy attire.

Gotcha.

I hardly see the problem with this “censoring” you guys keep complaining about. Sure, we didn’t get what we were promised. But the phrases the girls says in the dressing room aren’t that hard to understand if you know some basic Japanese. It’s mainly stuff like “This is our uniform” and “Stop it, it’s embarrassing”. Is that really anything to cry this hard over?

It’s a Great Busty Bake Off!

41

Hi, I bought main game and I like it, very fun and positive game! I’m very glad that I bought it. This new game is not DLC, right? It will be another game in Senran Kagura setting?
Thank you, I will be waiting when game will be in store. I’m ready to buy :D

Accusation of censorship is a very serious one. So I’ve went ahead and booted my Honk Kong copy of Senran Kagura SV that’s all in Japanese. There are no subtitles at all, and definitely no subtitles in either dressing room or shop. Which never bothered me since I speak a bit of Japanese. I can pretty much confirm that they say all the same stuff in EU and HK versions. I can’t honestly say that not subtitling it is censorship. Although it is kinda silly since they subtitle all the small stuff – which again, is not subtitled in Japanese language version. Now if they removed any dialogue or changed anything I’d be pissed, but having access to both versions I don’t see any actual censorship.
Now, checking out Japanese copy reminded me – when the hell are we getting Daidoji? That was one of the things a man couldn’t have on his Russian account…

Also, JP version of shinovi Versus have way more stylish animated Marvelous logo on boot up. That’s a thing.

Marvelous EU told us the EU-Version is 100% identical to the US-Version and this includes subtitles so it’s censorship and they did it by their own and was not be forced by any rating board. And the EU-Version is not identical to the JPN-Version. some ages are missing

But the biggest point is, they lied to us. That is the whole problem. It’s not okay!

44.2

@DanteZX I knew – as most people did – that they simply removed the ages to avoid controversy. They clearly went ahead and stated that the only difference between JP version and EU one is removed ages. And that is true, nothing else is changed or removed. Off the top of my head I clearly remember that Miyabi is 21 and her spititual animals are snake and crow. I think Ryobi and Ryona are both 15 and Mirai is 14, although (not including today) last time I’ve thoroughly played JP version was a year ago so my memory is a bit fuzzy. They should have allowed save conversion, sucks having to max Miyabi and Hikage again, I really got used to playing em both maxed on JP version save.
Now about NA version having extra subtitles I agree, they should not have lied about it. This is not a big deal, they haven’t removed or altered anything at all except ages. They should have just stated that those small quips are not subtitled in EU version.

Great I pre-ordered the Japanese physical edition for November ¬_¬

Will just have to get both

Wait does the US have physical versions of both this and versus?

nope
eithere you add the subtitles or i never buy anything from you again
we get enough cr@p as it is,we don’t need more from you

I will wait for the japanese retail release, since Marvelous Europe didn’t consider us good enough for a retail release of shinovi vs. Leave the real games to competent publishers and stick to your mobile shovelware.

Well if this is true about censorship I’m very down hearted, & it need the rep to commet as I won’t support this game being censored XSEED lied to me too. Saying to their knowledge it’s not being censored.

But then this is a odd choice of censorship I ever seen, you would expect adult themes themseves getting censored but not the words most odd it like people try to censored the word “trap”

So if true I won’t buy EU verison of ECCHI games by Marverlous Europe, it such a pity that you had to lied to us.

As I was gonna support you for releasing Ecchi games but in the end you had to follow What IF Did & self censored yourself why bother releasing it if it going to be censored.

It’s true the fight & semi nude are still there, & the fact you poke the cartoon girls in the dressing room people will know what the reaction of the girls will be.

So removing the subtitles was pointless if a rating board was so concern about the way the girls scream out wouldn’t there ask you to edit that p...

So removing the subtitles was pointless if a rating board was so concern about the way the girls scream out wouldn’t there ask you to edit that part out.

In criminal girls NISA are gonna do much worse by removing audio from the punishment mini-game that game too I will boycott.

You decided to open a branch in europe to bring more niche games to europe thats commendable, but then why did you release all the games as digital downloads ? That simply downloads could also be made from Marvelous US or Japan, for this you don’t need a office in europe. I think that the most players of these niche games prefers always retail versions, and with your download only policy you will not make many fans happy. I know that your office here is still young and it has to establish, but if you aren’t able to bring all your games as retail versions soon, then it may be the best if you stop publishing games here and return from this business.
