LittleBigPlanet 3 comes to life in stop-motion art – new video

Four artists transform an enormous warehouse in South London

At its heart, LittleBigPlanet 3 is all about creativity and our community is constantly surprising and delighting us with what they produce, both in the LittleBigPlanet games and outside of it. We have seen some extraordinary works of art from fans, online and in the post. It’s incredibly moving to think that the game we’re making can inspire people so much.

Ahead of the game launching in just a few weeks, we thought it was time that we got in on the act. So, we challenged a group of graffiti artists to transform a South London warehouse into a world of imagination featuring Sackboy, OddSock, Toggle and Swoop.

We were blown away by the effort the artists went to, hand-painting over 4,000 frames across three weeks to create the video below. Here’s a snapshot of what it took to make the video:

  • Four artists
  • Four film crew
  • 4,000sq ft/ 371sq m double height warehouse
  • 2,000 spray paint nozzles
  • 670 tins of spray paint
  • 324 hours painting
  • 4,012 frames painted and shot (To move a character 10ft/3m they had to be painted 30 times)
  • 750 tea bags

We can’t wait for the game to be released on 26th November (28th November in UK and Ireland) and can’t wait to see the creations that you, the community, have in store for us. We love seeing your imagination in action, whether that’s in-game, online, or in person. We’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!

Its been delayed so that Media Molecule can work on a day one patch EU to remove a song from the soundtrack. The SCEE legal department feared that it could be deemed “offensive” by certain minorities.

So yeah, censorship. And this isn’t the “book headsplosions in MP” that was a proper mountain and molehill situation, this is actual censorship as an actual artistic decision has been reversed by a man in a suit with a briefcase.

Media Molecule aren’t the developers. Sumo Digital are.

Hadn’t picked up on the censorship issue… goes to google to hear which song is getting cut in EU. Wow sounds pretty good, apparently its lyrics (which aren’t in English) feature a line ‘and everyone must taste death’ and was cut due to a solitary complaint.

My reservation with this game is that it seems you MUST have a team of players, each playing different characters, in order to get through a level because each character has different skills. This makes it impossible to solo the game (or trying to ace a level without dragging a whole team along when you keep trying and failing).

It’s not like a Lego game where AI will control the other characters and will somewhat intelligently do what they are supposed to do. Or you can switch to control other characters on the fly. I don’t think it’s ever mentioned whether AI or on-the-fly character switch was included.

Really need some clarification on this. I am not gonna get a multi-player, online-only LBP game.

No worries mate.
You can change characters in a changing door that are scattered through levels.

Here is a video explaining some stuff:

My biggest frustration with LBP series is that there is no commitment from the developer in supporting user-created levels.

What I mean is that, I spent tens of hours creating very complex levels, with tons of logic gates that look like a CPU chip wire diagram, even inventing clever ways to do things that the simple mechanics provided were not meant to do (random number generator, for example). 5 minutes after I published them, they all sank to the bottom of the list and no one ever see them or play them again – not because they aren’t good but because they are not visible, they were flooded over by other user-created levels.

There has to be some level groupings, like the way books are categorised (not just a handful of high level genres but nesting many layers deeper) so that people can find the levels they want (not just by keyword search). (I can’t even find my own levels by keyword search after a couple weeks! It’s like MM deleted my levels completely.)

And if we spent hours bu...

And if we spent hours building a level, it’s only fair that the developer spend a few minutes playing the levels created. I know they select some and promote them but that’s a very very very microscopic proportion. There must be a way for users to submit their levels for evaluation (by at least 3 developer staff specialising in the genre sub-categories) to get a rating from the developer (the submission process will eliminate the copy-and-paste levels).

There must be commitment from the developer to support user-created levels. I am not going to buy another LBP game and waste tens of hours for my user-created levels to be played for 5 minutes only. I am not going to waste my time self-promoting my levels in forums begging people to play them.

This by far, is the best LBP there is. I think this is a great game!
