Wow, I feel old!

Happy Birthday PlayStation 🙂

The celebration trailer from PlayStation Japan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4KW0OBCtz4

SpiderMike_X 1 December, 2014 @ 5:06 pm   4

It launched on the 3rd December but sure, let’s just do it tomorrow ……..

    AndyBeans 1 December, 2014 @ 5:12 pm

I’m guessing they’ll be putting something on the Store, probably an anniversary theme, so if they delay until Wednesday the US might have to wait…

    Fred Dutton 1 December, 2014 @ 5:14 pm

Indeed it did. Forgive us for starting a little early, but by the time our 20 hours of coverage is up it will be 3rd Dec!

    Calamaharnarch 1 December, 2014 @ 5:17 pm

Yeah that makes TOTAL sense, Fred. Celebrate a day early and then do nothing on the actual day. It’s not even Europe’s 20 year anniversary till September of next year anyway so the whole “NA missing out on something” is just BS. Sony just want to celebrate for the sake of it. I’ll avoid the blog. Spam + nonsensical celebrations are not my thing. I’m sure dozens will lap it up though. Any excuse to post.

It launched at Midnight 3rd Dec in Japan, seeing as they are 9 hours ahead of the UK, 15 hours ahead of most of the US, that would mean it was Dec 2nd… 🙂

    tenshi_alpha 1 December, 2014 @ 5:18 pm

Maybe it’s because Japan is 8 hours ahead of us, it might start on the 3rd for them, while it’s still the 2nd here.

    SpiderMike_X 1 December, 2014 @ 5:23 pm

But we didn’t get it till the year after so if the excuse is the time difference then you’re about 9 months out. Whatever though.

    ALBINOxAUBERGINE 1 December, 2014 @ 5:25 pm

Exactly!! If we got it on the 3rd too then great. If it’s a celebration of launch dates then lets have a post next year. If it’s the actual launch of the brand then it needs to be the third. Simples. Well, not for sony but hey, that’s SCEE for ya.

    o-MrSpoz-0 1 December, 2014 @ 5:31 pm

20 years and all you can muster is poxy blog posts throughout the day. How about something to actually wear with pride. Themes, avatars and such.

Remember that 2.0 update allowing themes which you barely pay any attention to?

You make all the effort in all the wrong places. It’s pitiful.

    I_S33_Y0U78 1 December, 2014 @ 11:51 pm

LMFAO what a bunch of crying bishes. “BOO HOO you are starting a few hours early” BOO freakin HOO we didn’t get ps till next year” “BOOOOO HOOOOOO give us free stuff” sound like a group of 5 y/o kids that didn’t get what you wanted form santa

No one said anything about freebies. I’ll pay for a theme after 20 years of PS. Jut pipe down and let the adults continue this conversation.

“Believe it or not, Wednesday marks two decades to the day since PlayStation first arrived in stores!”
This basically means from the day it was first launched. No where did they say it was the 20 years ago we got it in Europe.

Usually when companies celebrate a brands “birthday” they mean from the day it was first seen. Not when it was released in each region/country.

    SpiderMike_X 2 December, 2014 @ 4:36 pm

The article wording has changed to reflect that, though. Yesterday it never mentioned Wednesday OR ‘first arrived in stores.’

    CookieMonsterES 2 December, 2014 @ 6:09 pm

    @Calamaharnarch

More like any excuse to whine and complain, right? Every party needs a pooper, after all.

    ¡Feliz cumpleaños, Playstation! 🙂

madmanwithabox12 1 December, 2014 @ 5:08 pm   5

I shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t forget about Vita. It’s part of PlayStation’s present and future, so make it feel like part of the family instead of a removed cousin. =/

Otherwise, I look forward to the celebration and the PS Experience. 😀

    SullyDBully 2 December, 2014 @ 1:59 am

hi in return to your comment on vita your full on right and also the normal psp that’s where vita came from too but i m pretty much sure they wont as they have not left it out in the main logo of 20 years of ps

Why would you be saying it’s birthday is a day early? Being sinical would lead me to believe it is more conveniant for the US blog being updated on a tuesday. Maybe i’m wrong.

    Fred Dutton 1 December, 2014 @ 5:15 pm

No, nothing to do with the US. We’ll be looking at things from an EU angle. As above, we’re starting coverage a little early – but by the end of the 20 hours of cool stuff we have planned it will be the middle of 3rd Dec. Hope you enjoy!

    o-Sophieeee-o 1 December, 2014 @ 5:19 pm

If you were looking at things from an EU angle then you’d celebrate it on EU’s anniversary, which is September 29th 2015. This is purely arbitrary show-boating for absolutely NO reason.

    Kandracar 1 December, 2014 @ 6:04 pm

Well in that case keep up the good work. Happy Birthday Playstation.

SuperPorc_9 1 December, 2014 @ 5:09 pm   7

Happy birthday! =D

andrewsqual 1 December, 2014 @ 5:17 pm   8

Happy Anniversary. Here is to another 20 years. 🙂

Congratulations guys…. Hoping for another 20 years 🙂 At least…

It would be so great though if you guys add a wishlist feature to the PS Store so we can track many great PS titles out there and see automatically via notifications that they are on sale or else… So we can enjoy more PS games. I am loosing track of a lot of games because of the lack of a wishlist option.

Happy birthday PlayStation ❤️❤️

Poinjyhbterg 1 December, 2014 @ 5:29 pm   13

Why didn’t you stick to the original colours is what I’m wondering, after the original fat (phat as some call it) PS3.

Robin_reala 1 December, 2014 @ 5:32 pm   14

You’re missing the original Dual Analogue controller from your photo

No they aren’t. Grey pad in bottom right. DeRp.

    Robin_reala 1 December, 2014 @ 5:47 pm

That’s the original DualShock, not its Dual Analogue predecessor 🙂

You are missing Vita TV on that big nice picture… I mean you went and included even PS Pocket (which is good thing) and PSP Go (which was pretty much useless due to no UMD) but didn’t show Vita TV? Why? what’s the reason? After all it is part of a Playstation “family”… you even for god knows the reason changed the name to PlayStation TV

Or did you like always prematurely exploded with few good ideas and than abandoned them? Ya know… Move, EyeToy, Wonderbook… does it ring a bell?

Bah sorry it wasn’t meant to be reply. Ignore it.

    @Archacus

PSP Go was far from useless. In my eyes it is the first true portable system to ever be released. It was small enough to fit in your pocket without being too bulky, with plenty of storage space for all the games you could possibly want to take around with you.

I feel like it was a little too ahead of it’s time though, unfortunately. The PC crowd had fully adopted digital distribution around that time but it has only become more favourable in the console space in the past few years.

They’re one and the same. Only the Japanese version features a vibration feedback function. The European and American versions of the controller do however include circuitry and mounts for a rumble motor, a possible leftover from the Japanese version of the controller, and therefore installing the motor is a simple process. How you know it’s a first gen dualshock, regardless of dualshock or not, is the digital button in the centre at the bottom. Do your research.

If you were looking to be pedantic about it you could have mentioned the lack of Move controllers. :p

Happy birthday PLAYSTATION!

Woow, 20 years already.. Happy birthday Playstation! 🙂

Maybe a PS Store for Romania, too?

Happy Birthday PlayStation!

The Birth of the Greatest Console brand EVER!!! 😉

FrOZENDRAG 1 December, 2014 @ 5:41 pm   19

Congrats PS!

Happy birthday 🙂

I don’t mind if it is 1 day early, I like the idea. Hope you really got enough material to keep us entertained.

P.S. 20 years and the Super Nintendo is still the best console ever! 😛

You are missing Vita TV on that big nice picture… I mean you went and included even PS Pocket (which is good thing) and PSP Go (which was pretty much useless due to no UMD) but didn’t show Vita TV? andrewsqual 1 December, 2014 @ 9:38 pm

Maybe because PlayStation TV is a console and the picture above has portable consoles and controllers. The PS3 and PS4 controllers in the pictures above could easily be connected to a Playstation TV console. Its as if you are trying desperately to find something negative to say, in this case you are so wrong its hilarious. 🙂
Do you see the PS1, PS2, PS3 or PS4 consoles in the above picture? No. So why would the Playstation TV console be in the picture either then?

could be cause it ain’t out yet

happy birthday

Happy Birthday! Playstation

madmanwithabox12 1 December, 2014 @ 7:05 pm   40

What are the chances the 20th anniversary sparks some long overdue revivals like MediEvil, Parappa, Patapon, Syphon Filter and Ape Escape? I bet Sony does nothing with any of these IP in the foreseeable future and that’s a damn shame. Come on, prove me wrong Sony. =)

Martinses98 1 December, 2014 @ 7:05 pm   41

20 años aun sigue siendo joven 😉 Felicidades =)

Me and a friend played practically 48 hours of Doom with minimal sleep. we got stuck on a certain level and spent a fortune on the rental from Then Blockbuster video store. Infact we would of paid for the game if we was to of purchased it. GREAT TIMES!!! Still see the walls of the level speeding past!

dutchman030 1 December, 2014 @ 7:17 pm   44

never played as much as right now with latest release of Dragon Age Inquisition.
So realy enjoying PS to the max.. maybe a 20th anniversary Vita edition can complete my setup.
Congratulations for the developers and gamers PlayHappyStation!!

I’ll pass, thank you. “Celebrating” of 2 years ignorance to forced Singstar complaints was enough.
