Destiny: The Dark Below – PlayStation exclusive content detailed

Major expansion to Bungie’s sci-fi epic is due next week

A foul evil stirs beneath the surface of the Moon — a dark legacy that has threatened countless lives. And now, as the Hive legend known as Crota prepares to unleash the strength of the Hellmouth upon Earth, Guardians of the Last City take up their arms in courageous resistance.

The Dark Below is coming. It’s the first Destiny expansion and it launches on 9th December. What better way to celebrate the holidays than to clash with a seething evil of ancient origin? If you’ve been defending the Traveler’s Light since launch, The Dark Below expands the world of Destiny with an ample supply of new content. And guess what? PlayStation gamers have a couple of incredible exclusives to look forward to.

First up, another exclusive Strike to face on Mars: The Undying Mind.* You can step back into the coveted dangers of The Black Garden to face a timeless Vex machine-beast that has survived for ages. Prepare for firefights amidst vine-laden pillars and decaying paths in an effort to destroy the centuries-old evil.

And if you need more firepower to match your new foes, look no further than the PlayStation-exclusive exotic weapon coming to The Dark Below, The 4th Horseman shotgun*. Four barrels, five shots, and a sizzlingly fast fire rate will eat away at the Vex legions in short order.

When’s ‘the Final nail’ due?, ye know surely there’s end in sight and can’t think of better title for last bit of dlc/end game, already fell for pr and bought digital Gaurdian ed, on ps4 although I own PS3, thanks for great ‘pr’ spreading that, not.. Destiny was/is a great idea.. everyone has there price though I guess, but.. I’m Still on it, IF only they released it as lead guy envisioned/intended, imagine.. my theory (one of) is Acti actually took money off other Devs to strip down, more importantly dumb down what was going to be as once was, howls away into night.

Any word on new trophies? (I hope there are none at all with the DLC.)

    solarwind12 2 December, 2014 @ 2:35 pm

Xbox wouldn’t allow them to sell them without, even if it is a ps4 first title, no way they’d not add achievements and lose that market, know what you mean though, most probobly be a few (more) non description types, lol I got xbone and they even give you a ‘achievment’for watching first movie, then tv show on one/all of the premium providers whom I best not name, thought the vita’s double up was bad till seen that.

Dark Souls 1, 2, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Darksiders 2 all had story DLC that wasn’t costumes but none of it had any kind of trophies or achievements.
Borderlands 2, Watch Dogs had some DLC that also didn’t have achievements or trophies.

    solarwind12 2 December, 2014 @ 3:01 pm

True, even bought all the Darksiders2 stuff, season pass, so possible, can’t see it though esp with price per expansion, though that also shouldn’t have any impact, Darsiders2. think that was first nail for me, gaming life, the massive letdown of it, or maybe nothing could of followed first one, for me.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
Afaik Alien Isolation has 2 DLC packs out and neither of them have trophies.

Amazing, can’t wait personally – interested how we get to level 32 though as most cannot even still get to Lvl 30!

For all those moaning about not being able to get to level 30, all you had to do was take part in the Iron Banner 2.0! There was legendary armour that took you there for the price of 10,000 glimmer each!
#CantWait!!

Man didn’t know about that, not ‘moaning’ about only being a 29, just about how they structured the lottery of reaching 30, for those who care, most didn’t even know they needed to only have exotic helmet equiped IF going raid route, many hours of farming/playing lost (shards) so now the expansion was close they just give it away in iron (erm) banner. wonder why no one has said anything about that, just a strange system, lotteries gambles in general were bad enough, way they done it in this at least, but moving/changing rules Again?. Will need to see if any good angry joe type vids on tube later, hope so.

So little content for so much money. Not even a new planet, just the same old, same old. I guess the new single player missions have no story, like in the base game, and you will finish them in 2 hours. Then run through the new strike and done. So bad.

Pretty much the story of DLC in general.. Overpriced at a third of the full game’s price, with only a small fraction of the content a full game provides..

should be you fight we win, not you fight we lose.

the only “foul thing” that “stirs in the dark below” is your exclusivity. use that money to make your own products better, not punish others!

I hope there will be new trophies…

Honestly, in my humble opinion, paying off exclusive content for a 3rd party game that have the same price across all platforms is a bit of a disgraceful business practice.

Not directed to you Ryan Clements if you’re reading this, because you’re not responsible for this decision, but it’s directed to the people at SCE who make decisions to pay off for exclusive content in 3rd party games.

Everyone should get the same content if they’re paying the same price imo.

Nobody benefits if console manufacturers are going to fragmentise 3rd party games with exclusive content.

Now I’m not a business guy, maybe it makes sense from a business perspective, but from a consumer perspective nobody benefits imo. It was probably content that was going to be included anyway.

If SCE is going to spend that money anyway, I’d rather see them spending that money in extra marketing for some first-party games.

In fairness, MS started it all with their buying of exclusive content for multiplatform games last gen. We all knew it would continue onto this gen too. The fault shouldn’t lie with Sony however but Bungie, they accepted the deal after all.

Credit where credit is due though, Bungie have been very open about the deal, contrast to say, SE who still refuse that a deal has been done to lock PS owners out of Tomb Raider, or Bethesda who still deny that deals were done for TES and Fallout, and they withheld essential but fixing patches from the PS3 because they didn’t see a need to patch a game that had no DLC.

Also it’s worth noting that SCE has huge investment in first and second party titles for next year, whereas MS only have the confirmed titles plus the annual Forza redskin. They have probably spent more money locking out content in our games then they have making their own.

New hard raid is, all but, confirmed as being lvl33 – a true hard mode it seems. Bring it on!

TrueMurton 3 December, 2014 @ 6:31 am   11

There’s not enough content here to justify the 20 USD price tag for America, anyone paying the almost 36 USD asking price here in Europe is a mug and hereby banned from ever mentioning the price of anything ever again

coldboy33 3 December, 2014 @ 7:34 am   12

this is kind of stupid for people who have Xbox everyone should get the same stuff at the same time but am still looking forward to the dlc

Alexiel-FR 3 December, 2014 @ 7:46 am   13

its dissapointed in term of exclusive content weither it’s MS or sony …

Stonesthrow 3 December, 2014 @ 3:45 pm   14

So do you need to be lvl 32 just to be able to play most of this? Because all my chars are still 29, didn’t feel like grinding the vault of glass all the time..

stapler46 5 December, 2014 @ 2:01 pm   15

To everyone mad about the exclusives, just wait, you will get them all for free next year. I’m sure I’ll get some comments about how that’s unfair or too long or even the “who’s even going to be playing then?” Well I will, but sadly I will not be playing the new tomb raider while you will be getting a wealth of content to liven up a game you might have passed up on for a bit, at least 2 strikes and 3 new exotics. Also I’d like to say what all ps owners are saying, you can keep the dang dust palace strike! I wish it were an Xbox exclusive so you could feel the pain the end battle make me feel
