Happy Christmas from the No Man’s Sky team!

The Hello Games gang drop by with some festive cheer

Hello PlayStation Blog, I’m Sean Murray, I’m a programmer working on No Man’s Sky with a group of friends, here at Hello Games.

We’ve just come back from Vegas, where the whole team went to PlayStation Experience, The Game Awards (and then the Grand Canyon for biome research).

This has been a very different kind of year for us. This time last year I was worried that no one would watch our reveal trailer, and now I just worry if we can live up to some people’s excitement. So many people have been so lovely and supportive. Personally I’m going to disappear in 2015, probably until the game is out. I just want to focus on programming, which I definitely prefer to talking to press, which I’ve done a lot this month :)

If you want to know more about the game, there’s lots of new No Man’s Sky videos to watch. We showed No Man’s Sky off at the TGAs (which you can see here. Then we showed at PSX (which you can see here), and finally we threw a concert with the band 65daysofstatic, who will be doing our soundtrack which is online here:

Also this month we are on the cover of Game Informer, which was a huge moment for me (it’s a first for an indie game). They are doing lots of video features, like this one about how we’re dealing with hype, and people say this quickfire question one is good. I haven’t actually watched any of these, but I saw some animated gifs of my face whilst browsing NeoGAF, so that was enough for me :(

Hopefully the vids are ok :)

You can also read some more about the game here in a really nice feature in The Guardian, and Time and Kotaku wrote some really nice things.

It’s been an incredible year. We’re going to focus on finishing No Man’s Sky, but I want you to know how much we’ve valued each message you’ve sent us. Thank you. It means a lot to me and the team.

2015. I’ve heard someone say Summer but I don’t know if it’s true..

@Sean Murray here’s to a cracking 2015 for you and Hello Games, your game will sell like hot cakes! I will be first in the queue lol. Can’t wait to play No Man’s Sky :P

Thought this game was/IS going to be a very good, indie developed type, but with the indie type price, but seen a pre order on it asking £49.99, now as the indie style developed etc type i was very excited to get hands on with this, but was expecting a much lower price, at least half of above figure.. am i wrong? i know IF a games worth it’s money then it’s no argument, now i see this is getting pushed as a ‘normal’ priced type am not as excited, still keep eye on it of course, but reading posts from few months back that suggested this was a resogun type priced game with a whole universe of exploration, had nothing but admiration and expectations for it. so i was strangely saddened to see the £49.99 pre order, yes it ‘might’ be worth that much And more, just surprised me i guess, anyway am looking forwards to getting more info, loved the gameplay footage, little bit of it, i seen up to now, but mindboggling trying to guess how this ones going to work, and play of course.. don’t misu...

Release date, price, can I play with friends?

How can we have had this many posts about this game without these questions being answered?

Let’s start to actually see some gameplay details. Vids and scresnshots are great, but let’s hear about what we will actually spend time doing other exploring the galaxy. Is there trading? Missions? Faction politics, a way to meet our friends for coop?

Let’s have at least an estimate of a release date rather than 2015 and as you’re a British studio let’s not have a 40% price hike over the US price, fair pricing needs to be a point of focus for PlayStation in 2015 and if SCEE aren’t going to push it then it is up to developers to do it themselves.

Exploring the galaxy is the point of the game. Why would there be politics. If you want that, why don’t you play some other game. I do agree with you on the release date and pricing. I’m hoping for an imminent release of No Man’s Sky.

I know this is nothing to do with the topic but I’m having problems signing into my PSN everyone else is up and running it says my connection has been terminated but I can still sign into the PlayStation network on my PS3 PS vita and my phone any chance anyone can help me

I’m truly looking forward to this game. This game shall be revolutionary, and a hell of a lot better than horrid games like Call Of Duty. This game will have action, adventure, exploration, and some combat. This is going to be amazing!

Release this masterpiece as soon as possible! I never preorder games but I would definitively preorder this. Also, Sean, could you please add the ability build things, like outposts, cities, etc. maybe some terraforming as well. And please add some intelligent life, and some planets with cities and civilizations.

We close the comments for posts after 30 days.
