Borderlands: The Handsome Collection hits PS4 next month

Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel packaged together on 27th March

Ever since we announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, nearly every fan I’ve heard from at trade shows, on Twitter, in the comments, or on the forums has asked one question: when is it coming to PS4? Well, we appreciate your patience, and today we have some good news for all of you: not only are we bringing The Pre-Sequel to PS4 on 27th March, but Borderlands 2 is coming along with it! Both titles will be available in one package as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.

The Handsome Collection has both games running in gorgeous HD and looking pretty damn great, at a resolution and performance level never before seen in Borderlands on consoles. Beyond that, The Handsome Collection also has another cool first for Borderlands: four-player split-screen! Yup, four friends can hang out on the couch and play in split-screen on a single TV with The Handsome Collection, in Borderlands 2 or The Pre-Sequel.

Have you already started Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and/or Borderlands 2 on PS3 or Borderlands 2 PS Vita? Don’t worry: using Cross-Save functionality, you’ll be able to transfer your save to and from PS4 to pick up right where you left off, along with your levelled-up character, Badass Rank, and everything else you worked so hard for.

But what about the DLC? Well, that’s all included, too. Yup, The Handsome Collection includes ALL of the add-on content for both Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel, which is a heck of a lot of stuff. To give you an idea of just how much we’ve stuffed into that little box, here’s a list of everything you’ll get in addition to the base games:

Back when Borderlands 2 came out in 2012, it launched alongside a pretty extravagant Collector’s Edition that some of you might have been able to snag. With Borderlands 2 and all of its add-on content coming to next-gen, we knew we had to top ourselves. And so, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will receive an extremely limited Collector’s Edition, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition!

Limited to only 5,000 units worldwide, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition includes a remote controlled Claptrap steward bot that you’ll control with a companion app from your iOS or Android device. You’ll be able to play voice samples of some of Claptrap’s most iconic lines and look through a camera to see where Claptrap is headed, all while you control his every move (while balancing on one wheel)!

The Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition also includes 12 really cool exclusive Vault Hunter lithographs, and a collectible steel case, it’ll be available for €349.95 at participating retailers and we recommend getting a move on it if you’re interested — we don’t expect these to last long.

Lastly, we’ll be talking more about The Handsome Collection during our panels at PAX South this week, and I hope we’ll see some of you in San Antonio. Even if you can’t make it, stay tuned for more details leading up to launch.

See you on Pandora and Elpis!

Getting it.

60 fps?

Someone thinks next month is March, huh :)

I’m so glad it’s finally here, I’ll be getting it on release. I love me some BL and I never got around to finishing BL2 so the cross-save will give me a great excuse to get back to it. Thanks people!

Steve_Of_The_O 20 January, 2015 @ 13:25

Excellent. Has me even more hopeful for a Bioshock Trilogy release. DO IT NAO!

March is NOT next month!

When is the vita getting the missing add-ons/DLC content? love to play ‘Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep (campaign add-on)’ and love to get my characters up to level 72 with ‘The Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack (level cap increase)’

It’s already been announced that this will never happen for ‘technical reasons’. Presumably the same reasons that prevented them being included in the first place.

We all wanted it to be great, but the Vita version sucked hard. Time to move on.

Im loving it. Nothing to complain here except missing some DLC

Yep they should have made a new borderlands from the ground up, for the vita

The most important question is the framerate. Needs to be 60fps really, if it’s a choice between 60fps or 1080p then I would rather 60fps.

It is so important, I can’t think of anything else that is more important

No it should be both

I’m one of the very few who has never played any of the Borderlands games so colour me intrigued. Provided this launches at a sensible price I might just pick this up.

It’s going to be $59.99 in the US so I suspect normal new game price over here and anybody’s guess on the PS Store

Steve_Of_The_O 20 January, 2015 @ 13:30

Would also be nice if a player could join a local game on PS Vita via remote play, would trump split screen any day.

4 player split-screen? Day 1 buy.
I wish more games would follow your example.
Thank you Andrew and thank you Gearbox! :-D

Yes! Thank god someone noticed. There’s just not enough couch multiplayer. I don’t think I otherwise would have bought this, especially at launch since I already have both games… But screw it, I want the devs to know there’s demand for couch multiplayer! Day 1 for me (even though I’ll be playing Bloodborne) :)

Cool. Never played before, so i’ll get some good enjoyment out of this.

Will it support PhysX effects?

No. The PS4 uses an AMD GPU, PhysX is owned by Nvidia.

I play Borderlands with PhysX on my AMD GPU on PC, PhysX is installed as a library. So it can be possible, but I want to be sure.

DarkArchoNx66 20 January, 2015 @ 13:49

It’s a lot of stuff because you release a lot of stuff, and I’m not entirely sure if every single one of them is actually worth paying for. It is why

DarkArchoNx66 20 January, 2015 @ 13:53

damn, pressed enter xD..Where I left? It is why I never bothered getting any of the dlc’s when I discovered after getting the game from plus that I actually like it..It is why I haven’t gotten the pre-quel yet and I am not going to until you release (or if) a complete edition. Bordelands 2 was great and I didn’t get to enjoy as much I wanted to because at the time I was consumed with trophy hunting which I did and later on I moved on to other games when I achieved it. But I am not gonna pay a small fortune, or anything more than I should and not being even sure I get everything.

Thank you Gearbox! You rule! My favoritestestest game is finally coming to PS4!

yes! i knew it was a good idea to hold out and not buy borderlands 2 goty on ps3, this includes everything, it’s a bonus that we get the pre sequel aswell.

Any reason why the original Borderlands wasn’t included in this collection?

Also will the trophy list be shared with PS3 for Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel or will it be a new trophy set?

Love the series regardless, anyone who hasn’t tried these yet should definitely look this up.

I reckon it will have shared trophy lists the same as they did for the vita version. I really hope they do have separate lists, as I would love to play through and earn the trophies again.

Seems like a missed opportunity to me, BL1, BL2 & BL TPS would have been great on one purchase, although I appreciate it’s a lot of content, they could have done it.

As for the trophies, I’d love it if they had separate lists too, but unfortunately with the cross-save I suspect not…shame really, it’d have been great to play through all the games again on PS4. I haven’t played TPS yet but have plats for the other two so as much as I love the franchise…prob wait for a sale. Had BL2 had that separate trophy list though…

How does the cross save work? Got a fair way into it on the vita before my machine died. is it just a case if logging in and uploading from the cloud? Will be picking this up for sure!!!!

You would have needed on the Vita version main menu to select “Cross Save”, then upload the character you wish to transfer to the PS3 before loading it up on the PS3, then selecting Cross Save there and downloading the character. Sounds like you didn’t do that 1st bit so you’d have to start again :(

Thanks for update. I still have data from cross save stored on ps3 so hopefully can upload from there. No problem if do have to start again as only had one character in play anyway.

Just found a link to the Clap Trap robot—looks brilliant!

Glad to hear the Cross Save for Borderlands 2 to work from the Vita to the PS4; still waiting for the other 2 addon packs for that version though (even if they only released the 72 cap patch for the Vita version that would at least allow us to align our progress with the other versions).

Pity there is no such love for Vita. Not only didn’t we get all the DLCs, but the Pre-Sequel missed the platform as well. Vita sure is damned by Sony…

It’s great that the progress from the old versions will be carried over, I certainly wouldn’t have fancied starting all over again.
Not sure if I’ll get this yet as I played BL2 to death, too much in fact, but never did get Pre-Sequel.

StevenJamesHyde 20 January, 2015 @ 14:16

Will it be possible to transfer characters from 360-PS4? I know it’s unlikely, but GTAV managed it…

supersmith2500 20 January, 2015 @ 14:18

Hmm, no Borderlands 1?

StevenJamesHyde 20 January, 2015 @ 14:20

Will they be available separately, e.g. as downloads in the style of Metro and Saint’s Row IV?

1080p & 60 fps and you have my money.

You’ve got my money. Bioshock trilogy next please.

Steve_Of_The_O 20 January, 2015 @ 15:17

According to Gamesradar it is 60fps 1080p, but drops to 30fps for split screen.

Though they don’t quote a source.

Hopefully you can buy them separately, I wouldn’t mind playing The Pre-Sequel, but don’t want to play BL2 again.

Steve_Of_The_O 20 January, 2015 @ 15:36

Would make sense to do a digital only version akin to the Metro games.

Having pretty much finished The Pre-Sequel just now, and still bored of BL2, not too excited for this. I’ve been looking out for the first Borderlands to be remade for PS4, but I guess that’s a long way away now they have this coming.

Hmm, so if it’s out in March, is all Pre sequel DLC on the disk? Or will it be released sequentially inline with the ps3 version as it arrives? Or is all the ps3 dlc comming forward to march?

And who is developing this port?

It’s beginning to look like we all bought next gen consoles so we can play our last gen games…?

helo guys, one question, if I understaind correctly..

1. right now I´m playing the Borderlands 2 Vita version.
2. I´ll buy this PS4 Handsome edition
3. CAN I import my Vita save to the PS4 Borderland 2 game and continue playing the Borderland 2 game ….??
4. After finishing the Borderland 2 game I´m redy to launch the Prequel…?

is that right?

Will the presequel be available on it’s own digitally?

It feels incomplete without BL1, why not add it too to the collection?

Remaster price a’la Metro or full retail “gotta subsidise the US last gen price freeze” price a’la GTAV?

The number of games I’ve bought in the last 14 months is a huge step down from the 14 months prior. In the closing year of the PS3 before the PS4 release I easily bought 20 retail games, many of them day one plus some non-retail PSN games. The 40% “new gen tax” that applies solely to Europe die to SCEE not following Sony policy means I have bought maybe 10 in fourteen months at retail.

We’ve had some cracking sales, Diablo 3 digital for £35 on black friday, FarCry 4 Gold for £50 in 12 deals, but the regular non sales prices are just prohibitive. SCEE has shown no interest in resolving this as first party titles carry the same mark up. Only two things can solve this now, either a change in leadership at SCEE (Fergal Gara especially is a joke) or a third party dev or publisher bucking the trend and being very vocal about it.

I assume you will be able to buy these separately. I don’t really feel like buying or playing BL2 again

I’m surprised they didn’t go ahead and put the original game in there, but seeing as though that’s the one I’ve spent most time in, I’m not too disappointed. So happy I decided to wait on getting the pre-sequel.

CoolRichy007UK 20 January, 2015 @ 19:42

add this to psn and il get it and borderlands 1 was boring :D

This makes me very happy. I personally wrote to the developer/publisher of Borderlands asking them to bring Borderlands the Presequel to Xbox One and PS4 because I’m a fan of Borderlands but it came out after last gen was effectively over and the new consoles were out.

Where can I buy this in the uk?? …

Is that 4 player split-screen Story mode? If so EXCELLENT :P Or a 4 player split-screen death match mode would be cool to(off-line with bots) Oh i miss those days of gaming :(

nice, i will buy this, to be perfect you guys should have done borderlands 1 to

If you’re playing couch co-op, do all players earn trophies? My understanding is that it’s possible on PS4, but it’s up to the game developer…

Pity it has to come out the same month as Bloodborne. Also, fairly sure that next month is February.

Seperate purchase options would be good please. I already bought BL2 twice (PC and PS3).

Pre ordered this today at EBgames AU in the hopes for an upgrade to clap trap in a box edition. don’t want to pay eBay prices.

lunalicrichard 21 January, 2015 @ 08:53

I will get this ! i do have 1 and 2 and not yet the pre sequel ,and i don’t have all the dlc for 2 so it will be a great deal for me …

Any word on ps3 ps4 online cross play? I’ve been playing BL games every thursday since BL1, but my mate doesn’t have a ps4 yet.

Assassin-_-MerKz 21 January, 2015 @ 10:00

Definitely getting this but charging €349.95 for a Collectors edition of a port is a bit weird :\

How the hell do you not include the original Borderlands in this collection?

Oh, right. Because it used a different engine and you can’t do it with minimal effort like you can Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The cheap cash-in. Good job screwing over Playstation owners yet again, Gearbox. Do you just never want us to be able to play Borderlands 1 online ever again?
