Resogun Defenders blasts onto PlayStation 4 on 18th February

Full details on the brand new expansion to Housemarque’s acclaimed shoot ‘em up

Hey all, Ian Pickles from XDEV Studio Europe here and I’m pleased to announce that Resogun Defenders, the second expansion for Resogun will be available in a little under a week from now on 18th February.

The Defenders expansion brings with it a huge amount of new content for the game and we’ve worked really hard to make this final expansion a fitting send off for Resogun.

What’s more is that in order to prepare you for the arrival of Defenders we are pleased to announce that our latest content update, Resogun Challengers will be made available free of charge to all players as of today!

Here’s a little look of what you can expect to see in RESOGUN Challengers and Defenders:

As you’ve just seen Resogun Defenders takes place during our last stand against the overwhelming Sentient forces. Pushed back to an unknown planet you will take the fight to the bad guys in two all new game modes. Protector and Commando.

Protector Mode sees you taking to the skies to defend one of the last human colonies remaining. Utilise all new power ups including Super Boost, Teleport and automatic city defences; take down the enemy and deliver as many of the last humans to each city in order to extend your grip on the planet. Protector Mode features an all new planet flip mechanic and environmental hazards such as volcanic meteors to avoid while fighting off the never ending enemy invasion.

Commando mode lets you play as the Last Human who was left behind. Stranded on a distant planet with only a mini-gun to defend him he takes the fight directly to the Sentients in the ultimate arcade revenge mode. Jump, boost and equip your favourite bandana as you aim to defend your home from waves of enemies, volcanic meteors and more in this all new mode.

What’s more is that Commando mode supports both co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes. Team up with a friend to fight the good fight or turn against each other to outsmart your opponent and destroy their house from under their nose. We’ve named the competitive mode Battle Mode and hope you have as much fun fighting it out with your friends as we have had here.

Resogun Defenders also includes an all new trophy set for you to achieve and leaderboards to climb to prove your worth as the best pilot out there. The pack will be available for €4.99/£3.99 and is free of charge to all existing season pass owners from the 18th February.

So as mentioned above we need to update the game to get it ready for the arrival of Defenders and that gives us the opportunity to add a bunch of new content for everyone free of charge while we do it! This brings us to Resogun Challengers, our all new content update launching today for all players.

Resogun Challengers is the largest content update to date for the game and brings with it a new system of player levelling which is achieved by earning Challenge Points as a reward for completing new challenges and feats across all existing game modes.

Challenges task you with playing a specific level or game mode with different rules or modifiers designed to provide a new challenge. Can you rescue 200 humans in a single level if every enemy drops one or better yet can you complete survival mode using the Super Stardust Ship? Challenges change things up and give everyone a reason to revisit all Resogun game modes for a new experience.

Performing well will award Challenge Points which will advance your player level higher unlocking rewards and bragging rights.

Alongside the Challenges we have also included FEATS. These are long goals that are tracked across all game modes and award Challenge Points for achieving huge milestone goals. Have you rescued a cumulative 1000 humans or just dodged 13 wrecking balls in Demolition Mode? There’ll be a FEAT and reward for that. Only a true Resogun Hero can every hope to achieve all the FEATS but we sure you’ll have fun trying.

Human Gallery and Photo Mode

As well as the Challenges and Feats the Resogun Challengers update also contains an all new Human Gallery to organise and select your collected Human types and the much requested Photo Mode allowing you to pause the action and capture stunning screenshots of all the voxel based action exploding on screen. We’re looking forward to seeing some of the shots captured by the players.

To top it all off the Challengers Update also contains a bunch of new trophies for you to earn – designed around the challenges and feats these will test the skills of even the finest Resogun pilots out there and we hope will give you a reason to come back to the game and take the fight to the Sentients once more.

Finally I’m happy to announce that for those of you that have yet to play Resogun there has never been a better time. To celebrate the launch of Resogun Defenders we are offering 35% off the retail price of the game for the next two weeks. Additionally anyone who purchase the season pass will immediately gain access to our previous expansion, Heroes, and the additional humans available in the store.

Why is there no vita release?
I think the engine would be compatible.

@Sicmay: No it isn’t. All the Vita has is the base game as it was when Resogun first launched on the PS4. They didn’t include any of the content from the updates/addons in that version.

@Kleine: if it’s on Vita but it’s outdated, it’s still on Vita. Anyway, i would expect no additional content.

I bought the PS4 season pass, will it be compatible with the PS3/Vita version? Maybe a discount? Pleeeeeaaaaaassssseeee?

No DLC for us :(


PS3 and Vita only has the base game. The DLC doesn’t apply to them. See my comment above.

@MaxSighcard: Judging from the silent treatment, I’ve figured as much that the PS3/PSV versions won’t get the DLC. :(

What about the PS3 and Vita versions of the game? Are they ever going to get at least some of the additional content from the PS4 game?

We aren’t getting nothing. Actually, it’s a miracle that it was ported over there.

Awesome stuff! Couple of questions though. No co-op in protector? Will feats count our previous stats from before the patch? And what about the soundtrack for those who bought the season pass, is that still coming.

Glad you like it – along with the Heroes expansion, all released and forthcoming Human packs and the upcoming soundtrack we think there is lots of content included with the season pass :)

You should implement a daily challenge feature like Spelunky, OlliOlli, Rayman Legends etc.


There is actually a weekly challenge included in the new patch… this updates each week and allows you to compete for the best score on a random challenge for challenge point prizes

Awesome! I have all the trophies in Resogun and its expansions – even the trophy for beating the game in local coop mode without dying (Even though I had to control both ships myself). I’m ready for more! :D

Does my previous 100 hour gametime count towards “feats”.?

Wait what, I bought the season pass just for TWO DLCs, the 2nd of which has taken EIGHT months for? that’s IT?! Challengers doesn’t count as it’s free and Heroes wasn’t even that good. Plus, Defenders has been through so many unreasonably long delays. Don’t get me wrong I love Resogun, but this season pass has really felt like an afterthought, constantly tossed aside for SS Ultra and Alienation, right? Even though I’m looking forward to Alienation this has made me skeptical of future Housemarque season passes.


You didn’t play that much for the Season Pass. Stop whining. I’m more than happy with the content we’ve been given.

Plus Super Stardust Ultra was ported and developed by D3T, not Housemarque.

“To celebrate the launch of Resogun Defenders we are offering 35% off the retail price of the game for the next two weeks. ” – I can’t see any reference on the store to the price being cut – am I missing something?

Loving the Challengers update although some of it is a bit ridiculous. Keep your multiplier alive throughout all of Master difficulty? So, 1CCing Master without even getting hit? Let’s not be daft, Housemarque!

Great stuff, but you should have added some trophies that can be obtained by people that support the game but don’t have superhuman skills or who want to spend some time playing other games too.
