New Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition trailer details brand new game features

New game modes and playable characters unveiled for Capcom’s update

Greetings to the PlayStation community! Hideaki Itsuno of Capcom here. As you may know, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is set to release in the summer of 2015, some seven years after the release of the original game back in January 2008 to a positive reception from fans of the series. The original Devil May Cry 4 was actually Capcom’s very first title for the PS3.

This year Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition will make its way to PlayStation 4 with new modes, gameplay and visual improvements, and the largest roster of playable characters in any Devil May Cry game to date.

One of the biggest new attractions in Special Edition is that you will be able to play as Vergil, who has proven to be an extraordinarily popular character amongst fans. For his appearance in DMC4SE, we’ve used his Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition rendition as a gameplay foundation, and added in elements of his DmC rendition to create the definitive version of the character.

We’ve also added in a brand new “Concentration” mechanic, which complements Vergil’s signature “iaijutsu” fighting style, making his attacks grow stronger and stronger the more calmly and flawlessly he fights. Additionally, the “Grim Trick” ability, which allows Vergil to teleport using his “Sword Illusions,” makes for an action experience that will feel new and distinctly different from that of Nero or Dante.

We also decided that we wanted to make Lady and Trish playable for the Special Edition. On top of the already playable Nero and Dante from the original game, this makes for a total of five playable characters in the game.

Lady, who is a playable character for the first time in the series, has a fighting style that is conceptually quite different from that of the other DMC4 characters, with a special emphasis on firearms. Lady’s focus on long-range fighting will feel like a completely different way to take on the action.

When playing as Trish, you will see that she does away with weapon switching, and instead makes skillful use of the Sparda sword in a variety of ways that require the use of relatively few buttons. This again makes for a play style that will feel distinctly different from anything you’ve seen in the game until now.

“Legendary Dark Knight Mode” – a feature we were previously unable to include in the PS3 version – will be added to the game. This mode pits players against a tremendous number of enemies. Players will have to adjust their fighting style to adapt, making for a fresh gameplay experience for even long-time fans.

The game will also feature a plethora of new costumes, which are fully compatible with in-game cutscenes, bringing a fresh look to scenes some fans may have seen before.

It’s a great honour to be able to bring Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition to PlayStation 4. Stay tuned for more information, and please look forward to a fun game with tons of content this summer, whether you’re a stylish seven-year veteran or a newcomer to the series.

I hope they make a “Gloria” alternative skin to Trish ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

As a long time fan I was really disappointed with the direction Capcom took with Ninja Theory’s DmC, but I cannot wait to play some Devil May Cry 4:SE. I get to play as Virgil, Lady and Trish? SOLD!

As a fan of the series from the first game, I’ve played them all. I always thought 4 was one of the weaker titles in terms of story, but fun in terms of gameplay. Being able to play through as Virgil may move this up my list. Also curious to see how differently he plays from DMC3 and DmC.

+1 Virgil love.

Vergil had to skip a console generation because he needed more POWER.

The time has come and so have i…

Hope Vergil gets more than 2 cutscenes this time around, unlike in DMC3 Special Edition.

digital only = no purchase.

I hope for a sequel to the original series. Personally I liked Devil May Cry 3 and 4 the best and I can’t stand the new DmC Dante. So maybe it’s time for a real continuation of the series?

Me parece un gran juego ojala no sea muy caro.
Sabe alguien el precio del juego? sera 60 o 70 euros ?

Greate game hope not to be to expensive.
Anyone knows the cost? will be 60 or 70 euros ?

Hmmm… I wonder, with all these “remasters” on PS4, if we will see a decent version of Bayonetta on PlayStation? The PS3 version was pretty ropey, but with the power of PS4… yes please! Bayonetta 1 & 2 together on PS4 in a package would be quite welcome. Somebody give Sega & Platinum a nudge!

Back on topic, hopefully Capcom won’t find a qay to microtransaction the soul out of this game like they have done with some of their other titles. See: gem system in Street Fighter. It put me right off. Confusing and greedy. Stop withthe microtransactions please Capcom, they are ruining your previously good name!

What’s next? Resistance trilogy Remastered, Killzone 2 & 3 Remake?

i think killzone might be happening

DMC4 was trash, It when I kinda lost interest in the series,

The worst part was it was literally half a game mirrored

Digital only = No buy. Get it together, Capcom.

As someone who dabbled with this series from day one, I have absolutely no problem with DMC4, but this DOES seem like an odd game to remaster for PS4, considering it’s the fourth game in the series and first appeared early in the PS3 lifecycle. No hate, just thinking out loud.

I’ll happily play this game again, I really love it, certainly with the extra characters and the new Legendary Dark Knight mode which I’ve wanted since I knew it came out on pc.

What I dislike is the only digital release and de disc release + goodies for Japan.

I do hope the price will be around 30-40€ max and that there will be new cutscenes, japanese voices, trophies, art and music, and playable Bloody Palace Vergil/Trish/Lady.
