Horizon Zero Dawn announced for PS4, from Guerrilla Games

A magnificent new IP from the creators of Killzone

We’re thrilled to introduce our brand-new third-person action RPG, Horizon Zero Dawn! Watch the trailer above to catch your first glimpse of the game!

Horizon Zero Dawn is set in a lush, beautiful open world where nature has reclaimed the ruins of a forgotten civilization. It is a world where mankind is not the dominant species, and highly advanced machines sit at the top of the food chain. You play as Aloy, a young outcast from a tribal society, who has learned to hunt the machines. Intent on unraveling the many mysteries that surround her, Aloy embarks on a quest that will lead her to discover her own destiny.

Along the way, Aloy will face off against an entire menagerie of machines – some traveling in herds, others roaming in solitude, all of them presenting a formidable danger. You will need to learn their behaviors, attack patterns and weak points in order to survive. You must use the beautiful environments to your advantage, and employ stealth, agility, and cunning to approach your prey unseen.

Of course, you won’t be hunting unarmed in Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy is capable of combining natural materials with machine parts to turn them into ingenious weapons, ammunition, traps, and tools. By cleverly using the right items at the right moment, you can exploit weak points and bring down even the largest machines. Unfortunately, the most dangerous machines aren’t necessarily the biggest…

Horizon Zero Dawn is scheduled for a 2016 release, and we’ll have additional details for you in the coming months. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook to stay up to date on the latest news! In the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

    ownificate 16 June, 2015 @ 7:26 pm

I was going to give it to Fallout 4, but as soon as I heard him say Guerilla was trying new Horizons, I knew this was instant GOS.

jokerduo3 16 June, 2015 @ 4:10 am   2

This game looks stunning.

Sony, Guerrilla Games, you have my money. Game looks FUN!

FantasyMeister 16 June, 2015 @ 4:28 am   7

I got a real Monster Hunter vibe from the trailer so I’m hoping a lot of that franchise’s systems make it into Horizon as well, looking forward to hearing lots more about it but love the way it seems to be evolving the genre.

    ShadowFlightBA 16 June, 2015 @ 10:26 am

Now that is exactly the same feeling I got when watching this. Monster Hunter hunting machines.

SzczurekPB 16 June, 2015 @ 4:36 am   8

Would be interesting drop in coop mode.

Well done keeping everything secret!!

    Luc1ferous 17 June, 2015 @ 3:07 pm

What makes me chuckle is that some art for this leaked a while back, but seems so ridiculous that it couldn’t possibly be representative of what the were making.

It was, and it looks glorious!

LAILIEL 16 June, 2015 @ 7:37 am   12

Guerrilla Games you surely know how to win a fan of yours back, this looks great!
I will buy for sure!
Needless to say that if we could tame the creatures and then ride them it would be AWESOME!

SoloKazama- 16 June, 2015 @ 9:44 am   18

Is this what I think it is? Hunter-like game with AAA graphic on my nextgen console? 4 player coop? Am I dreaming? No more rehashed MH3/4 over and over! Now cant wait for Horizon – best new IP E3 2015!!

lunalicrichard 16 June, 2015 @ 9:49 am   19

The most promissing and interesting game of the ps4 show . And something i didn’t anticipate to boot !
I do hope it will deliver on the promise and be the game we all hope for .

Nice to see some new (and interesting) IP with a budget, excited.

Wow, this game is on my wish list.

Andre-Veelt 16 June, 2015 @ 10:44 am   23

Yes, a third person game looks great :). Not a big fan on FPS when it comes to console gaming.

It looks great and I’m exited to know more because if there isn’t an epic story in there I don’t care.

    X_Weapon 16 June, 2015 @ 1:30 pm

Don’t know if will be Epic or Unforgettable but surely this time they are trying as from what the trailer looks like.

WOW! 😛 😛 😛 This Looks AMAZING!!! 😛

Son-of-The-Boss 16 June, 2015 @ 12:21 pm   26

tiago-kun 16 June, 2015 @ 12:43 pm   27

Amazing game!

BettyPurple 16 June, 2015 @ 12:54 pm   28

One of the highlights of E3

BettyPurple 16 June, 2015 @ 12:56 pm   29

Has a Enslaved sort of vibe to it. One of the most interesting looking IP’s for a while for me also.

I thought Sony had one of its best E3 showings for some time 🙂 well done guys

damien14273 16 June, 2015 @ 1:02 pm   30

This looks incredible! Could be a long way off though

X_Weapon 16 June, 2015 @ 1:32 pm   31

QUESTIONs FOR @Guerrilla :

1. Character customization or the Lady is the main?
2. Other primary weapons other than Bow?
3. Freedom across the map?
4. Coop or Single?

jarekmasta 16 June, 2015 @ 1:57 pm   32

I was too sleepy to post but I did see the conference and this game was a highlight of it. Keeping fingers crossed for this title, we may have a new killer series in the making! Can’t wait. Looks absolutely amazing!

    Stonesthrow 16 June, 2015 @ 11:08 pm

Yea and I was still cooling down from that Last Guardian footage before.. 2 bombshells like that sure set the mood.

I love the premise of the game. Big props to the development team at Guerilla Games Amsterdam. 🙂

Visually, it looks fantastic (especially considering it’s open-world), but that was to be expected from Guerilla. 🙂

By the way, I liked the music in the trailer, is it an original track?

My only nitpick would be that I don’t really like the logo of the game personally, but it isn’t a big deal. 🙂

joyrul96 16 June, 2015 @ 3:20 pm   34

Can you guys pleasee give us these screenshots in Uncompressed PNG?
I need these as wallpapers but I can clearly see the compression makes it look worse :/

    joyrul96 16 June, 2015 @ 3:23 pm

Oh also…. One MAIN thing you need in this game.
To be able to grab their tail and climb them 🙂

Alluxus3 16 June, 2015 @ 3:29 pm   35

Looks amazing!

codemorse 16 June, 2015 @ 3:39 pm   36

Yep, I’m definitely up for this! Looks like a cross between Enslaved, Heavenly Sword and Tomb Raider with a dash of Skyrim perhaps… Definitely one I would like in my collection!

JackMcDuck 16 June, 2015 @ 3:53 pm   37

Is it Ygritte from Game of Thrones?

smile_taisou 16 June, 2015 @ 4:42 pm   38

Looks absolutely stunning, can’t wait to play it.

waltyftm 16 June, 2015 @ 6:38 pm   39

Now that is one high quality looking game, just my cup of tea 🙂

Absolutely beautiful! Can’t wait to play this game!

Stonesthrow 16 June, 2015 @ 10:59 pm   41

THAT MUSIC was in my head for the entire presentation. Stunningly beautiful!! Was very surprised to it being third person, maybe even a bit disappointed at first since GG did so good with the technically superior Killzone series, but I’m sure this’ll be a blast too. Reminded me of Lord of the Rings with the beautiful colors, until mechanics creatures started popping up :p Dammit Hermen, couldn’t you include an MP3 track of this angelic song in the blog post? :p Guess I’ll have to rewatch the trailer all week :p

ThroughTheIris56 16 June, 2015 @ 11:24 pm   42

I’d seen the concept art and I was looking forward to this announcement. The reveal exceeded my expectations by a landslide. If the developers can make the whole game as awesome as that clip, we have a masterpiece on the way.

brisdevil 17 June, 2015 @ 12:05 am   43

I’m so looking forward to this game, the presentation was pure awesomeness! In love with the setting, artstyle, music, everything I’ve seen so far. Simply incredible. Just bravo!

mosessaur 17 June, 2015 @ 12:58 am   44

Gameplay demo was just mind blowing. Loved the character and voice and the gameplay!
Please don’t screw this up

hot_wheelz 19 June, 2015 @ 10:44 am   45

I must say this game rather surprised me! I don’t normally go in for the ‘Monster Hunter’ type of games, but Guerrilla Games seem to have put an interesting twist on the formula. I shall be following this closely and praying it lives up to the gameplay shown.
