Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward early access starts today

Get an early look Square Enix's new MMO expansion

Exactly one year, two months and five days ago, on 14th April 2014, I had the pleasure of announcing that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn had finally launched on PS4 – the first ever Final Fantasy installment to find its way onto the console!

Since then, Eorzea has grown to host four million players worldwide, many of them playing from their PlayStation with friends on the PC and soon to be joined by Mac users – an experience like no other.

Today, I am happy to announce that the Early Access period for Heavensward, the long awaited first expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, has started!

During the course of the day, the PlayStation Store will be updated with a special Early Purchase edition. This will not only grant you access to the Early Access period starting today, but also grant you the bonus items “Baron Circlet” and “Baron Earrings”, originally worn by the famous Dark Knight Cecil in Final Fantasy IV, and the “Chocobo Chick Courier”, an adorable little fellow who will keep you company on your travels through foreign landscapes.

I want to join in! What do I have to do?

Easy! If you already have an FFXIV account, just look for the Early Purchase editions on PlayStation Store, download, install, register, enjoy. You will get your bonus items along with everyone else on release day, 23rd June!

Please note: The Final Fantasy XIV Online – Early Purchase Bundle is only for players who do not own a Final Fantasy XIV account yet and does not include Early Access, but does include the bonus items. Please make sure you purchase the correct version!

We hope you’ll have a great time while exploring Ishgard – be it on the ground or high up in the air!

It would probably be worthwhile mentioning that you have to be all caught up on the main storyline quests (including all the post-original story arc, like Leviathan, Ramuh etc) to be able to access the Heavensward content. Kind of annoyed about that. I’ve played a lot of hours at max level and I’m going to have to waste some gil on higher ilevel gear just to knock a couple more encounters on the head. Would have preferred if they’d just had some sort of story catch up at the start of the expansion really.

But it is also odd to be able to play the new jobs and get to the new areas without having been invited thru the story. at least the level cap is raised automatically so you should be able to level up as you continue the story thus making all the battles easier.I also have to continue the story still but i see this as a nice incentive to continue because i do enjoy the story. i have just been busy lately

Woooo looking forward to it! :) The cliffhanger ending completely gobsmacked me – can’t wait to see how it continues in Heavensward!

Good news :)
Main story is boring….. please give us a way to avoid it.

There are so many Square-Enix gems still missing from the European Playstation store. Like the PS1 games Brave Fencer Musashi, Chrono Cross Legend of Mana, Threads of Fate and Xenogears just to mention a few, and PS2 games like Musashi: Samurai Legend. It would be nice to see them there.

It would also be nice if more PSP/PS1 Final Fantasy games were playable on the PS TV, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t since they work on the Vita.

THIS IS REALLY CONFUSING!

A Realm Reborn missing from Russian store loooong time ago… and nobody cares.
Same goes with Heavensward?

Anybody else having issues starting the game?

Ffxiv can not be purchased or upgraded using Russian psn store. Steam works normally, direct buys for windows/mac – too. Only Sony platform is a problem, for ps3 – unslovable. It’s a a Sony © :(

still any chance of getting the sub put on the playstation store to buy time cards are hard to find anywhere

We became unable to buy both game and the Heavensward addom using psn. SE answers about 18+ restrictions and Sony rules. Sony’s support answers nothing – it’s normal in Russia. Sony.ru is exceptional place looking like exUSSSR – they think that they are not have a duty to answer their customer questions. They are The Big and they Can.

So apparently I’ve just spent my money on nothing, preordering heavensward (33£ BTW) on Amazon.co.uk, got early access code and its not working because the game is still missing on psn, who are u, Mr Greedy, Sony or Square and who do I have to contact in this situation?
