Everything you need to know about F1 2015, out on PS4 today

Codemasters detail the new features in this year’s iteration of the racing sim

To mark the release of F1 2015 today, we wanted to give you an idea of the kind of experiences that you can look forward to when you play the game on your PlayStation 4.

Built from the ground up on an entirely new game engine, the team here at Codemasters has put a lot of effort and time into creating the most authentic Official Formula One World Championship racing experience possible. From an entirely new handling and physics model, to jaw-dropping PS4-powered graphics and engineer interaction, F1 2015 feels just like being inside the cockpit of a real F1 car from the comfort of your living room!

Championship Season is where many of you will spend the majority of your time in F1 2015. In this mode, you can be a part of the official grid and play out a full Championship Season as your hero driver and part of your favourite team.

With multiple options at your disposal, from in car assists like traction control and anti lock brakes; to driving lines and braking point indicators on the circuit, you can tailor your season how you want it. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a rookie racer, Championship Season has everything you need to be a part of the world of Formula One.

Pro Season mode is designed with the hardcore racers out there in mind. This throws you into the car; cockpit cam locked and absolutely no assists to guide you. The flashback feature, which allows players to rewind gameplay if they make a mistake is also disabled, meaning that preserving your car through the entire race distance is something that should always be a priority. You will be fighting wheel to wheel in full race distances, maintaining strategy, car and tyre wear and competing against the best of the best.

Talking to your engineer on the pitwall (a new feature for F1 2015) couldn’t be easier with a PS4. Using a PlayStation 4 compatible headset, you can ask your engineer questions relevant to the race and your strategy. From asking how your tyres are doing, to how close the nearest car is, being able to speak to the engineer really makes you feel part of the Formula One grid. Here’s a very short sample of some of the many engineer commands that can be used within F1 2015:

  • Full race update: Requests full race information including position, gaps to drivers ahead/behind and laps remaining.
  • Fuel target: Requests information on your current fuel usage.
  • Vehicle Condition: Requests information regarding the damage, tyre status and temperatures of your car.

Being able to talk to the pitwall isn’t the only feature specific to the PS4 version of F1 2015. If you race using a Dualshock 4 controller, the light bar on your controller will change colour based on the current status of the circuit, giving you a great real time indication of the status of the track. If there are yellow flags around the circuit, for example, the bar will change to yellow until the track condition changes back to green, at which point, the light bar changes colour too.

Of course the multiplayer experience in F1 2015 has also been updated. Now, once you search for a multiplayer session, you can continue to play other offline game modes while we try to find you the best session that we can. This means that you never have to stop racing while waiting for a lobby to populate, and even get some last minute practice in before you take on the best drivers that the PlayStation community has to offer!

If custom online lobbies are more your speed, F1 2015 provides multiple options that you can fine tune to create the multiplayer experience that you want to play, including options for weather, damage, equal car performance and much, much more.

Also new for online lobbies in F1 2015 is the inclusion of online Practice and Qualifying sessions, giving you the option of creating a full online race weekend tailored to you.

We’ve put a huge amount of work into making F1 2015 the most realistic Formula One racing experience to date and we will continue to update the game after it launches to keep content relevant and up to date alongside the real world 2015 season. F1 2015 really lets you fight wheel to wheel for the Drivers World Championship, where you too can Race Like A Champion.
