Frantic action puzzler Tricky Towers crashes onto PS4 soon

A hugely addictive build ‘em up from Dutch studio WeirdBeard

Hello PlayStation Blog, I’m Niels Monshouwer, co-founder of WeirdBeard, an independent game studio based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We started developing games eight years ago and have made all sorts of titles; entertainment, educational and promotional – even medical games. Now I’m proud to announce our newest game for PlayStation 4: Tricky Towers.

Ever since we started we’ve wanted to make a console game and see the box standing in the stores. This dream is now coming true. Well partially, as boxes in stores are now almost something of the past.

It has been a big challenge for our team so far, and we are very happy that Sony is with us on this ride. For everybody in the team it has been a great opportunity to show off their skills. For us, Tricky Towers is already a great experience!

So what is the game? Tricky Towers is a multiplayer physics-based tower building game. Players have to build a tower with tetrominoes and be faster and better at it than their opponents. To spice things up, players can also use magic spells to either support their own structure or mess up the towers of their opponents. With spells flying everywhere and tetrominoes dropping like flies – Tricky Towers gives players a chaotically good time.

Tricky Towers has a number of different game modes to keep you entertained – for now we’d like to show you the race and survivor modes.

In race mode you must build a tower tall enough to reach the finish line before your opponents do. But don’t stop and celebrate too soon – your tower has to remain upright for three seconds before you’ll be crowned as the winner!

Survivor mode is all about building a safe, stable tower. Each time you drop tetrominoes your character will lose a life. Lose all your lives and you’re out! Survivor mode is a tricky balance of building to protect your own tower while trying to cast spells that will tumble the towers of your opponents. There are also rumours of the survival world being a tad haunted…

We are now working on finishing up the game by creating a single player campaign, polishing the magic spells and improving the existing multiplayer experience. We have a high standard when it comes to the small details, so we always put a lot of time into polishing up our games.

We can’t wait for the game to be released for everyone to play – whether it’s with friends at a party or battling it out against other gamers online.

So much for that hype…

zalwelgoedgaan 21 October, 2015 @ 14:19

What hype? What did we miss?

Nicko_McBrain 21 October, 2015 @ 14:52

Just something on twitter, check e.g. dualshockers (the website)

@Stealth_sneak, he’s responsible for indies and other smaller acquisitions, of course it’s not going to be something like Sony Santa Monica’s next game.

@Nicko: Ah, thanks.

Looks like fun, any chance for a Vita release at some point?

These devs announced a port of 99Bricks (a game with a similar formula I believe) for Vita last year and it was quietly cancelled earlier this year, with no explanation given, prior to the announcement of this game here.

To answer your question, it’s unlikely.

is that your mega immersive game that do crying in the redaction? it’s a joke? stop with you game indé on play 4 ,i bought playstation 4 for great game not for that, take example on microsoft an his xbox live game gold ! borried

Ooooh I love “99 Bricks” on the google play store. This will be a couch co-op with my son, now we don’t have to fight over the smartphone anymore.
It always lacked a multiplayer function, this is a must buy for me when reasonably priced.

This looks like a lot of fun – will keep an eye out for this!

Are you talking about online or local multiplayer? Or both?

I think I’d buy this game if it’s not too expensive and has local multiplayer. I’m sure it’s fun to play with friends.

WeirdBeardGames 22 October, 2015 @ 08:28

We’re talking about both :) 2-4 players local or online and a single player mode.

This is it? A Tetris clone for PS4 …

This looks original and not at all like a hugely derivative tetris/jenga mash-up.

There’s a flash game that is literally the exact same concept of this game and it came out in like 2008

more trash for the ps4

Yay, more smartphone-ish indie junk to fill the PS4’s Instant Game Collection in November.

For December, maybe we can expect something with real value, like Angry Birds.

please, don’t use that word here.

“soon” has bad connotations on this blog.

I think people still need to realize there are going to be less AA games, you’re still gonna get your Uncharteds and Fallouts and indie type games just less middle ground games

@Hazel Soon , I’m still waiting for Home picture frames :)

*rolls on the floor laughing.*

Good for the people who like this kind of game I guess. Here is hoping its profitable and has many years and sequels of success.
