Gran Turismo Sport BETA coming to PS4 in 2016

Kazunori Yamauchi reveals the first GT title for PS4, coming 2016

Racing fans, brace yourselves – this afternoon at the Paris Games Week PlayStation Press Conference, Kazunori Yamauchi, along with SCEE CEO & President Jim Ryan, unveiled on stage the latest Gran Turismo iteration: GT Sport, coming to PS4 in 2016.

On stage, the Polyphony team talked about the advances that the PS4 offers to allow them to continue to improve the graphics, physics and sound to deliver the most realistic driving simulator to date. But with GT Sport they’re looking to deliver more than that; to deliver a revolution in the way that people experience driving games, a figurative “rebirth” of motorsports.

FIA Gran Turismo Championships
In Gran Turismo Sport, there will be two online championships officially sanctioned by the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) running simultaneously. In the Nations Cup, players will be able represent their home country. Whilst in the Manufacturers Cup, players will be driving on behalf of their favorite car manufacturer.

Players will not only be able to race as drivers themselves, they’ll also be able to root for their home country or their favorite manufacturers teams.

The winner of the championship will be awarded at the FIA prize giving ceremony, alongside real life motorsports champions. This will be a historic moment, the first time a video game will officially be recognised as part of the real motoring world.

FIA Partnership
Working alongside the historic FIA, to develop a game that continues to be more realistic and authentic, the online racing championships promise to offer something new for players.

But it’s not just about online racing; the GT teams have continued to build on the games legacy of accessibility to ensure that the game is open to all to enjoy.

With the beta expected to begin in Spring 2016, it won’t be long before players can experience all GT has to offer on the power of the PS4.

Saying that I’m excited about this game is massive understatement.

What about Single player content?

i hope this game is the GT7 we have been waiting for PLUS this online championship thing, only with a changed name.

GT had a great single player mode and i hope this isnt an online only / multiplayer only game.

if they keep the split screen multiplayer mode it will be nice too.

So is this a full game?
Or spin on the free academy?
Possibly a new type of GT Concept? (i.e. Purchasable Tech Demo/Beta)

They don’t quote mention if its a ongoing or once-off championship…

Either way, im stoked, whatever it is, i will sure be getting it… need to get me a new wheel now :(

Yea I was wondering about all that too. Hope it’s a full game and an actual sequel, although it doesn’t say GT7.. Anyway, excited to finally get to play it this generation. Missed the series on Vita too..

What ever they do, i hope they do something like GT Vision again too. Was a amazing feature of free dlc.

The lack of support for Logitech wheels that worked fine on PS3 means I do not buy PS4 racing titles. Rip someone else off.

Sorry your old wheel made for a completely different platform didn’t foresee how to be compatible with a system that wasn’t even out at the time. At least new wheels are finally coming on the market that support PS3, PS4 and PC

Also, the new Logitech wheel looks totally amazing!

Hefty price, but i think i will be taking the plunge, and rather sooner than later, as i bought a Driving Force about a year before PS4 was announced.

(and kinda glad a new GT hasnt been out yet, as i would not have had the cash for a new wheel)

Finally!

Okay, cool, but it’s gonna be very dissapointing if you abandon the remaining awaiting Gran Turismo cars on GT6 for PS3.

I hope we get this in less than five years.

Yamauchi said that it would be due in 2016

Looks great! Is this a similar idea to what Microsoft has with Forza and Forza Horizon only much more realistic and will still get a GT7 someday as separate games that share the same name?

Will the beta be open for everyone or is there/going to be a sign up for it?

From what I read this a public beta so if it’s like the previous Destiny and Battlefront betas anyone can sign up and you don’t even need Playstation Plus to play online.

Ehh. GT is old hat and died when they shafted GT5 players.

I just really hope this is GT7 and not just some online only spinoff. It would be great to see what the PS4 can really do kinda like GT5 Prologue did at the beginning of PS3 but for me GT has always been about the cars themselves and not about online social interactions and making an online only game would be really devastating for GT considering their most recent competition is Forza 6. Too many game developers are going all out on online only entries which really sucks (mostly cause I don’t want to start paying for Playstation Plus anytime soon, smh Sony) and I truly believed poliphony was better than that, especially for a company that never relied on quick cash grab DLC.

Pretty sure the next will be GT7, but who knows.
I highly doubt they will go the online only route, unless its like a GT Academy style entry.

Been waiting for this game, what feels like ages!!!!!!!!!!

I would say that this is PS4’s Gran Turismo Prologue. Possibly the online only version.

I’m guessing this will only be a few cars and tracks to cater for this FIA partnership.

Gran Turismo 7 will be years away. They wouldn’t ditch the numbers after 6 games.

The statement about this being the first time a game is recognised by a real world governing body isn’t actually true the MSA of great Britain are recognise TORA as a real motorsport that uses forza motorsport

Plus nascar, imsa and indycar all sanction iracing series. More to the point the nascar winner gets their trophy at the same event. Ie exactly what this says never happens.

This has gotta’ be the Prologue of 7 right?

Hope there’s never a 7 and they do it as a platform. Forza has made a right mess of spamming titles to the point I just do t want to play them any more.

Why is gt so dull ? I’ve never enjoyed a gt game yet driving a real car is way more exciting.

GT7, coming to PS4 a week after the PS5 launches.

Sony made a monumental **** up not getting PD to develop GT6 for PS4. I won’t be purchasing another wheel for any Sony console so I’m out.

I hope they ditch sequels to gran turismo altogether and just make this single game a continuous evolving game.
They kept on pushing patches and content update, many free and some premium, for the previous two titles – so I would love it if they did the same with this new title.

The past games always used ‘legacy’ models and texture to bring a huge amount of cars – and they can do that for this game as well. Allow cross-buy for any premium GT5/6 stuff we paid for and just keep updating & tweaking this title until the PS5 is out, then have this game ported & repackaged for it on launch day and continue tweaking and improving it – as well as updating the most popular car models to match the power boost of a new console – all while also pushing premium content to make this a continuously evolving game and by definition the biggest car game ever.
