SingStar gets new modes, tracks and a visual makeover

The party game perennial gets a number of major updates

Hello! I’m delighted to be able to share some news with you about the latest updates to SingStar, which are now available through our most recent patch!

Firstly though, we want to acknowledge that we’ve had some problems over the last year that have delayed our ambitions for the title, but we’re pleased to say that we’ve now resolved the major issues. As well as working hard on fixes, the team have made some other awesome changes and additions to SingStar in the new patch…

A brand new look!

Taking on board feedback from the community, their experiences, and looking at how we can improve the game’s look and feel, we have injected some colour, as well as making improvements to the layout to make it even easier to navigate and find your songs.

The all new Party Mode!

It’s back, but not how you remember it…We’ve reinvented the much-loved mode which now includes:

  • Pass The Mic: Blue Team vs Red Team. Players taking turns to sing a section of a song
  • Medleys: 1 vs 1. Sing the chorus of five different songs.
  • Micro Medleys: 1 vs 1. Sing a short section of eight different songs
  • Pass the Medley: Blue Team vs Red Team. Taking turns to sing the chorus of different songs
  • First to the Post rounds: 1 vs 1. First to reach 1 million points wins

The full list of party modes can be found on the main menu. This is also where you can create teams and put on the ultimate SingStar tournament with as many rounds as you like. Best out of 99? Why not?!

New Challenge Mode!

Within your profile you’ll find the new Challenge Mode. Songs that your friends and other players have sung will be displayed here with scores for you to try and beat. If you beat their score then your points will be sent back to them. The challenge will bounce back and forth until the score cannot be beaten. The challenges don’t have to be attempted in real time either, so you could always wait for your friend with the Whitney vocal range to visit and lead you to SingStar victory!

It’s not just a new look and Party Mode that we’re putting in the patch though; the team has been working extremely hard on a lot of improvements behind the scenes that you’ll hopefully notice when you play.

We’d love to know what you think of the new SingStar and will take on board and feedback you have. Comment below or say hello to us on our social media pages:

Oh, one last thing! We’ve added more songs on PS4 that you might have previously had on PS3. We’re working to bring more of your PS3 favourites to PS4 in coming SingStore updates, to add to the hundreds we’ve moved across in the last couple of months. Stay tuned…

Once again, thank you so much for your patience this year. We really appreciate it and hope you enjoy your new SingStar!

Thanks for the update! I would however appreciate if the video quality for the songs were updated. It is quite bad and does not work on a big screen like a projector.

Unless all your songs are very recent there is nothing they can do. The majority of songs were recorded in SD so its the best quality you can get, sadly.

Ofcourse old songs will not have HD quality videos, but even the SD videos have been compressed too much. Blocky compression artifacts everywhere.

always loved singstar since ps2 :), and have followed you through every version :), was disappointed with the ps4 version was sooo buggy, but the new update is amazing its addressed almost every issue i had with the ps4 version and the new look makes the menus easier to navigate :), you guys rock keep up the amazing work look forward to more songs :)

Any chance of bringing PS3/PS2 disc swap to this?

3.1

It will never happen. Just like PS2 Backwards Compatibility, they will just stick to digital titles so they can have your money.

Sony doesn’t care about keeping players happy anymore.

It’s great to see, that SingStar is finally back on track with this update.

Please keep working on getting the rest of the PS3 songs to PS4.

Also please add an option to increase the in-song volume, because the menu volume is a lot louder than the in-song volume. Thanks!

I am from Malta, and whenever I go to the Singstar store to buy songs it says no content. When are you going to fix this please?

That’s cool but my main disappointment with PS4 Singstar was that some of my fave songs I had bought on the PS3 version were unavailable to transfer to PS4 version. :/

6.1

You say that as if they HADN’T brought over a bunch more tracks as part of this update.

How about removing the PS3 ic- oh well, nevermind.

Finally a nice big SingStar update! It took (too) long but I’m glad this update came just before the holidays! :-)

Finally something! It looked like you just sent Singstar to die with the almost none existent track updates since launch.

Only problem is songs cost too much really

Any chance we can remove the icon on the PS3 XMB?

11.1

Get over it. Most have moved onto PS4 and don’t care about that pathetic issue anymore.

Are you implying that the PS3 is pathetic? Better change your name to MaxTryhard…

Also, the situation is not that better on PS4… *cough*Destiny*cough*

Removing Singstar icon from PS3 menu would be really appreciated.

I have to be honest, I’ve been criticizing the Singstar team for a very long time… The lack of updates was really unacceptable! But now I have to bow down before them ‘coz that update is freaking awsome! Great new features, total visual revamp and the best of all, magnificent list of new songs (eventhough I don’t full access to all songs, maybe ‘coz contractual reasons my brazilian and american accounts can’t show me a-ha’s songs for exemple). I’ve already bought 180 songs and a do intent to buy even more. Congrats guys! Thanks for don’t let that awsome game dies! Keep making the song list even bigger and better!

PS.: sorry for my poor english! I’m not a native and I’m still learning!

* eventhough I don’t HAVE full access

That’s a smart move, and now… MORE CONTENT, please :)

Finally! SingStar on PS4 is now the game it should have been from the start. Thank you!

Where’s “Delete this crap from my XMB” mode?

Nice job. I also just assumed this was being left to die, but the new modes finally make this the game it always should have been from the start (have the volume balancing issues been fixed too?).

I love SingStar but what it really needs is a “party pool” so you don’t have to keep switching players, typing names in etc. SingStar parties are great fun but swapping between players when you’ve got a whole room of people has always been unwieldy. If we could set up a player and their pic and they were stored in a “pool”, that would be great. But I’ve been asking for that for years so I have little hope! We don’t tend to bother with it any more but might of it was made easier to switch between people. Facial recognition would be a bonus for that too…

Big improvement, although we still miss the veto system (limited shuffles per team) and the fixed length competitions after which teams can be shuffled. Plus we really can’t get used to the scoring. We still prefer the original, but at least it’s now a consideration instead of a no-brainer. More song transfers and releases could flip the balance.

Great new update, and good to see more songs becoming available on the PS4. Please continue to bring new content (Little Mix aren’t my cup of tea, but my daughter loves them so the song pack had to be purchased!).

It’s interesting to read so many negative comments elsewhere re: the tracklist of your new competitor (Now That’s What I Call Sing). Yes, they are all recent releases, but that’s exactly what my daughter and her friends want to see in SingStar.

Great update!

… but uhm… there’s a small problem with the songs that are on sale. I bought a bunch of them already on ps3 and when i try to download them it wants to charge me 99 cents for every song… Can you do something about that please?

22.1

Thank you for fixing this!

Has anyone tried actually transferring PS3 purchases to PS4 since his update? It’s painful!
There is no filter on the store to identify songs you already own. If you go into your library, it at least flags up songs that are transferable from PS3, but you have to repurchase them (for free) one-by-one. No option to add to basket, no option to batch repurchase them as I’m sure you could on the old PS4 app.
On top of that, the store would hang on each individual repurchase. In the end I found it “easier” to take photos of my transferrable songs filter on my library and go back to the Singstore to add them to the basket. Only, your Singstore basket can only hold ten items, so adds yet another barrier. On top of that, it is taking literally 5 minutes to process a basket of 10 items when the game hands over from the Singstore basket to the PS Store basket.
It seriously feels like no-one at Sony has been through the repurchasing process with anything more than one or two songs.
I even check...

I even checked the PSN status page in case there were some PS Store issues that might be affecting this process, but no, everything is green, so looks like in-game Singstore issues.
