The Escapists The Walking Dead comes to PS4 next month

Team17’s breakout hit takes on Robert Kirkman’s zombie universe

Hey PlayStation Blog readers! We hope everyone had a great holiday. Here at Team17, we’ve got a lot of exciting games coming to PlayStation 4 in 2016, the first of which I’m here to tell you about today: the awesome The Escapists The Walking Dead!

Yes, that’s right we’ve taken our breakout hit The Escapists and merged it with the well-loved universe that is Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic series. We have taken the very best of both worlds and lovingly recreated comic panels, dialogue and the story of the award-winning comic series within the charming 8-bit style of The Escapists.

Starting the game, you’ll take on the role of iconic protagonist Rick Grimes as he wakes up in the Harrison Memorial Hospital. This first tutorial level matches that very first issue of The Walking Dead comic, and sees Rick encounter his first walkers in the hospital. The levels will then follow the time line of the comics, seeing Rick travel to various locations such as the Greene Family Farm, Meriwether Correctional Facility, Woodbury and Alexandria. In fact, our game spans right up to around issue 83 of the comic!

You’ll get to meet other familiar characters from the hit series along the way including Carl, Lori, Glenn, Hershel, Maggie, Dale, Tyreese, Michonne, Abraham and Gabriel. As Rick, you must take care of your survivors by performing headcounts, and cleaning up the compound to avoid getting overrun with walkers.

Fans of The Escapists will be glad to know crafting is still a big part of the game. Choosing from over 250 materials, you’ll be able to craft more than 70 different items to keep your survivors safe including tools like cutters and shovels and weapons such as the modified pistol and rifle.

We’ve absolutely loved teaming up with Skybound Entertainment on this and we can’t wait to see you on the leaderboards when The Escapists The Walking Dead launches for PS4 on the 16th February!

Did you enjoy this?

Aww I would love to play this on my Vita and not by remote play

Looks really good; agree with Reggyx3clover though; would much rather play this on the Vita (on the bus, or train!)

Why on earth wouldn’t this be crossplay with the Vita!?

What’s the price going to be?

Oh this looks fantastic. It could be amazing on Vita. There’s some life left in ‘er yet!

This should be free, Microsoft just give Witcher 2 away for free through the backwards compatibility. Ya being very disappointing this gen Sony

Regardless of what Microsoft did, this shouldn’t be free. The original Escapists was an amazing game, and you’re stupid for suggesting this developer give away their new game for free.

blah blah blah guys, i wasn’t being serious, stupid people all around.
my point kind of making was Sony are lacking this gen because they have sold amazing amount of ps4 and don’t give a crap about us.
three easy things a lot of people have asked

    1. wallpaper background.

    2. Remove games from the library

    3.Backwards comb……you get the idea.

The PS4 hasn’t even changed it’s look at all since launch.

oh and the escapist was free on xbox for a month 😛

Darn, just got Escapists a short while ago and still have to claw myself into it. Or out of it? But this looks interesting.

The Escapists series should come to vita

You will only get my money if this is released on VITA.

Bethany, I love you guys at Team17 and The Escapists is great on PS4, BUT… I’d love it way, way, waaaaay more on Vita! This game – perhaps more than most – would just be ideal on Sony’s handheld. Any chance?

This is a great game for … PS VITA ! It is a handheld from Sony ? you know ?

Vita version? Go on, you know you want to.

I literally only came down to the comments section to ask why this and the original Escapists weren’t available on Vita, and it looks like I’ve been beaten to the punch… a fair few times, too!
