Dark comedic kart racer Coffin Dodgers announced for PS4

Pimp your mobility scooter and prepare to face the Grim Reaper

Greetings, PlayStation Blog! It’s Ben Tester here from Wales Interactive bringing you great news on the upcoming PS4 kart racer, Coffin Dodgers! We’ve teamed up with UK-based developers, Milky Tea Studios, to bring you an old age pensioner’s race for survival in Spring 2016.

After settling down for some peace and tranquillity, the residents of the retirement village, Sunny Pines, have been idling away the days. That is, until a creepy new resident, Mr Grim Reaper, looks set to turn retirement on its head. After years trawling the earth for souls to harvest, Mr Grim Reaper lays his hat in the village of Sunny Pines where he will harvest souls from the comfort of his rocking chair.

However, seven of the sprightliest OAPs have other ideas and set out to terminate Grim’s morbid plans with a mobility scooter race to the death! Prove your worthiness in the tournament and unlock the Grim Reaper himself. With the aid of his trusty scythe, you’ll continue the story and capture the souls of Sunny Pines for yourselves.

Battle your friends! With a two-four local multiplayer mode you can actively battle and knock your friends from their mobility scooters, get tangled up in epic crashes and cause mayhem! The “Road Rash” style player-to-player combat features wacky weapons and collectable destructive power-ups to stop your mates in their tracks. Watch your frail backs though as you’re never too far away from an EMP powered defibrillator.

Further game modes range from single-player story, time trials, quick races, and the open-world “Crazy Granddad” game where you race against the clock to find special items in the Sunny Pines district.

Have a need for speed? Get out your wallets as you’ll be spending your well-earned coins in the Garage where you can unlock and upgrade your very own pimped-up mobility scooter! Here you can buff up your kart bodies, swap out your engine parts, choose new paint jobs or upgrade your weapons… you’ll need these if you plan on beating Grim over the finish line! Choose your mods carefully to suit your driving style and build the scooter that will literally save your soul.

Coffin Dodgers is coming to PS4 in Spring 2016 so keep an eye out for another announcement coming soon with further details. We’d love to hear your feedback so please feel free to leave comments below or stop by the Coffin Dodgers website. Thank you all for reading!

Race In Peace.

I’d forgotten about this one.looks like a lot of fun.And makes a change to play as an old git (like me) so will be checking this out at some point..unless it comes to PS Plus :)

Kevin Campbell 25 January, 2016 @ 15:51

Hey Inherentdragon, thanks for your comment and feedback! Great to have you on board :)

Looks fun – any plans for 4 player split screen?. always fun to beat your friends and children … :)

Kevin Campbell 25 January, 2016 @ 16:11

Hey Qelar :) Yes there will be local ‘couch’ multiplayer, so you’ll have a super competitive household with this game :) Thanks for your comment!

Heya Milkytea, any chance of this also having online multiplayer?
If not do you know if this will support Shareplay? At least that way i can play split screen online :D

Kevin Campbell 25 January, 2016 @ 16:24

Hey Khvivi, Thanks for your question. It is just local multiplayer on launch. Thanks, Kev

Have been looking forward to this one for some time now.

Kevin Campbell 25 January, 2016 @ 16:58

Fantastic, thanks Chazz! Great to have your support :)

Cheers for the quick reply Kevin! all the good games are from small devs who show an interest! :)

CoolRichy007UK 25 January, 2016 @ 17:35

Lmao kevin great game day1 buy as long as it has loads of dlc

Kevin Campbell 25 January, 2016 @ 17:37

Hey CoolRichy :) DLC will depend on how well the game does so we certainly hope so :) Thanks for your support and kind words!

I like the look of it and it’s a great idea but the license-dodging music would annoy me. It’s almost the Star Trek theme and almost 2001. I’d have to turn that off. Otherwise it seems a good little game.

Kevin Campbell 25 January, 2016 @ 18:07

Hey WizardWeb, thanks for the comment. I guess it’s not for everyone but you’re right at least you have the mute button…We hope you enjoy the game anyway :) Cheers, Kev

Will there be a platinum trophy?

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 09:13

Hey Sahdiochao! Yes there will be a platinum trophy :)

Kudos on answering the questions.
I have none but I’m looking forward to it :)

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 09:21

Hey Rildiz, no problem and thanks for your support :)

I had an idea for a game like this about a decade ago called Wheelchair Rally: Grandma’s Got Game! It’s interesting to see what that idea come to life in a similar form.

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 09:14

Hey David, Well that sounds like an awesome idea too! Perhaps that’s the sequel :)

I’m kinda surprised to see this on a Sony machine, the title alone makes it sound too politically incorrect for ’em. Looks fun though, always wanted to try a mobility scooter for a laugh. Fingers crossed for the Sinclair C5 dlc car.

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 09:19

Thanks PureNomad :) There’s some awesome Youtube videos of ‘Pimped UP’ mobility scooters you should check out!

This looks to be both dark – and comedic.

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 09:20

Thanks BankeA! That’s the plan :) There’s some great hand to hand combat too which makes it perfect for competitive couch multiplayer :)

I saw Jim Sterling play this and the game looked very poor, disappointed to see it is acceptable to Sony.

Wales Interactive… Yet another developer that ‘forgets’ their game was originally announced for Vita!

Is this two way split screen? or can you play 4 way split screen? Will the game have race modes as well?

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 11:08

Hey Fllysurfer, Thanks for your question :) The game will have 2-4 player couch multiplayer as well as a single player Story mode, Quick Race mode, Time Trial and Open World game modes. Cheers, Kev

This looks like a real time thief, I can imagine losing many an evening to this, haven’t seen a good kart racer in a while, this certainly seems to be bringing back the fun element these games once had.

Will there be a demo so we can test drive before buying?

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 15:58

Hey JonBoy! Thanks for your kind words, we certainly think it is a lot of fun :) There won’t be a demo but i’m sure there will be lot’s of Let’s Plays but the time the game is released. Thanks, Kev

I’m not normally a big kart racer fan but this looks mental enough to pique my interest, are there any plans for a demo version?

Sorry just seen the reply above, shame but I’ll still keep this on my radar, if the price is right I may take a punt regardless ;)

Kevin Campbell 26 January, 2016 @ 16:59

Hey Tycho! Excellent, keep a look out for it in Spring 2016 :)

ziggy-mandias 26 January, 2016 @ 20:56

This is now on my must play list….. plus my son would get a good giggle from it too

LittleHellXIII 26 January, 2016 @ 23:17

This looks like a lot of fun, I like the style + humor.

Gloom12356776543 27 January, 2016 @ 11:27

The Trailer was amazing, I like dark humor :) :) :) so if the Platinum is doable and the “price is right” :) then day one buy for me ! looks great cant wait :)

Btw : Any news about the Soul Axiom for PS4 Ben ? thanks

DarkHeroofGames 28 January, 2016 @ 16:45

Eh, the style and concept don’t really do much for me. Of course that won’t matter at all if it’s got tight kart racing game play. Always on the search for a solid kart racer on PS4, since Crash Team Racing is only on PS3 haha. ;)

Looks like garbage.
