Hi everyone. Sorry for the slight delay in posting this week’s Store post. A quick word…

As many of you have noticed, as of last week we are no longer quoting price information on our regular PlayStation Store updates. Instead, we’ve asked you to click on the hyperlink for each title to go to its listing on PlayStation Store and find the price in your region.

Obviously this is not as straightforward as just seeing the price listed in the blog post, and we understand the frustration many of you have expressed at the change. However, it’s a change we’ve made for a reason, and I want to offer you a bit more background on what that is.

Here at SCEE, we cater for a huge number of territories across Europe and beyond, many of which use different currencies. In fact, we cater for about 20 different currencies across more than 30 countries. We’re both legally and ethically obliged not to be misleading in our communications, and by only listing prices in, say, £ and €, we are potentially giving gamers in territories who do not use those currencies a false impression of the cost of an item.

So we’re left with two options: either publish every currency price for every item, or ask you to click through to PlayStation Store to see an accurate local price, which is generated automatically based on your ISP’s location.

If you were to take a typical PlayStation Store promotion featuring around 100 discounted items, the blog post would have to feature around 2,000 separate prices to be compliant. That would not only be impractical to create, but it would also make the blog post very difficult to read.

Duly, we’ve made the difficult decision to remove pricing information and ask you to click through to PlayStation Store.

So, I hope that gives you some background into why the change has been made. We’re always looking for ways to improve how we communicate with our readers and customers, and the topic of PlayStation Store pricing is certainly something that will remain in our crosshairs. Thanks for your understanding, and your valuable feedback.

    Fred Dutton 26 January, 2016 @ 6:24 pm

Just to add, Fran will be along in the morning to answer any queries she can, as per usual. Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation! Sound reasonable to me.
For sales, would it be possible to still list percentages at least?

… and you guys say that after… years, Fred?

    Magoo_222 26 January, 2016 @ 6:39 pm

In that case, can I suggest you go back to this being posted after the store has updated so we can click on the links and see the prices, rather than remember to see if it’s a decent price in 2 days?

Thanks for actually giving some explanation for actions on the blog, something which is unfortunately rare.

If no indication of price is given in the posts, and it’s fair enough not to post a daft number of currencies, it is reasonable to expect every item listed to be given its store link, even DLC. Will this be the case moving forwards?

    KaneTheGoth 26 January, 2016 @ 6:48 pm

It’s nothing to do with laziness, and like I’ve said before, if Fred had an unlimited budget to hire staff then I’m sure the extra manpower would be able to do all these prices. Be realistic: yes, it’s frustrating having to click-through to each price, and I think they’ll lose sales over it.. but catering to 20 or so different currencies is just a ridiculous extra amount of work. Even bouncing the prices off a pre-written algorithm would take a lot of time.

…and @Magoo_222: How about YOU just check the blog later, instead of suggesting the rest of us wait because you personally don’t want to check back again.

    Tranquil-Fury 26 January, 2016 @ 6:49 pm

An explanation as to why things are the way they are on the blog!!!

What next, ps+ titles that aren’t indie shovelware?

    Ryusennin 26 January, 2016 @ 6:52 pm

Another week, another slap in the face with pseudo justifications. Poor pennyless Sony Europe just can’t do what everyone else — Microsoft, Steam, heck even GOG — does on this continent. It’s not good being a PlayStation customer.

Thank you for the honesty. I do not consider this a complete answer, but at least it is an answer.

There are some quick points I want to make.

Firstly, when we’re signed in, you already know our location. It should not be terribly difficult to use that to generate pricing information for – at least – the Eurozone and the UK, and that would cover probably 75%+ of your visitors (the others would still be without pricing information, but no more so than they are right now anyway). I realise this functionality almost certainly doesn’t currently exist and that you’re not overflowing with site resources, but perhaps this is something that could be looked at in future.

Secondly, you say that you’re asking us to click on a link for each title – unfortunately, that’s only partly true. At the time that I’m writing this post, the blog post only includes five items with links to the PlayStation Store, out of a number of items that I’m eyeballing to be around 30. I can understand that you can’t link to content that’s released on the 27th or 28th, but there’s no links to any of the DLC that was released today. Getting them right now means manually typing their name into the Store search box and then hunting down the right search result and clicking on it.

Thirdly, we previously saw many cases of Store prices not matching blog post prices. Sometimes it was the blog that was wrong, but occasionally the Store prices were incorrect and this was caught because of the price listed in the blog post. Without prices, how are we meant to know when a price is wrong? Or, as another example, when a discount isn’t properly applying? Right now it seems we’re meant to guess.

(As a final tangential note: when I click on a game’s image in a PlayStation Store blog post, it’s never ever with the intention of being sent off to Flickr).

“We’re both legally and ethically obliged not to be misleading in our communications, and by only listing prices iin, say, £ and €, we are potentially giving gamers in territories who do not use those currencies a false impression of the cost of an item. ”

Legally? Please show the legal basis because as someone with quite good knowledge about EU law I smell BS. You are just trying to find an excuse.

Thanks for the explanation, but there are other (better) alternatives:
We are all logged in with a country tied up on our PSN Account, why not showing the prices for that region. In the year 2016 there are powerful scripts to handle that easy – or just an Radio-Button or something similar from the 90s 😉
On the other hand, this explanation is not comprehensible for the german blog, there are only two currcenies. Why not still showing there prices?

Oh… and not to mention… that you can display fixed prices of £ and €, and add 3rd as coded in that would be displayed based on region and data taken from PSN. That’s another thing you didn’t think of.

    As always disappointing SCEE.

    Witcher70 26 January, 2016 @ 7:12 pm

Thank you for the explanation, in that case Fred do you not think it’s time each region did their own store posts with their own promo’s and pricing? Not that it matters to me now as i am finding PSPrices to be very useful. But Kudos for explaining the reasons behind the decision to omit pricing.

    funkpower 26 January, 2016 @ 7:14 pm

So why doesn’t the blog recognise our location and show the relevant price?

As the PlayStation store calculates a price/currency based on the individual’s ISP location, could you therefore not get the blog to calculate and display a price/currency based on the individual’s ISP location? This would surely make the blog easy to read and have the relevant information for each country.

That’s fair enough, but out of curiosity, would there be a way to link to the store from the blog, which can access the database and display a single price for everyone based on their location, the same way you said the store does, using our ISP’s location? So we’d still have prices shown here, but just a single price, and an accurate one for our country.

I’m just thinking that if it was dynamic, then it would be something you wouldn’t have to think about, and we’d all get our correct prices. Maybe there’s a way of doing it so that when there’s a link to the store page, it automatically get’s the price and displays that too? There must be some script that can get that done!

    G-IH-O-S-T 26 January, 2016 @ 7:19 pm

i didn’t mind seeing only euros or pounds, but i know there’re others who complained (can’t satisfy them all i guess) so whatever you see fit.
but couldn’t you maybe put how much the item is discounted in percentage or something? would be nice to know roughly how big/small the discount is.

So people were hoping for improvement with the name change but we got more incompetence. If Europe can’t be catered for in one then IT NEEDS TO BE BROKEN UP rather than just treating us all as second class.

This is a very reasonable and detailed explanation. Thanks, Fred!

    damien14273 26 January, 2016 @ 8:36 pm

This seems a fair justification but I’m sure there is a work around for this. We get that the sales there are just too many titles to list all the prices, but for the new releases couldn’t we have the prices listed? If it is just a case of the region being too big to have all these prices maybe it’s time to section off this blog so as to have a separate segment for each different currency? There’s also you guys having to list all the different release dates for each area here as well so why not just divide it up make a UK blog a ‘Euro’ blog and Aus blog etc. Even have the community run them I’m sure there are loads of people who would be willing to be a community manager/moderator here like on many, many forums across the internet. Either that or tell the bigwigs at Sony to make a push for worldwide digital rights (seems like a long shot yes I know). Imagine a world where everyone pays the same price for digital content and gets it at the same time. Having to wait 3 extra days after the US for the same digital version of Uncharted 4 and even 2 extra days compared to the rest of Europe just seems really weird to me. Just my thoughts, thanks for the info though Fred it’s always interesting to see the behind the scenes stuff!

    Fred Dutton 26 January, 2016 @ 8:57 pm

    Thanks for your comments folks.

Re. hyperlinks: Yes, we’ll make sure titles are linked as they become available on Store (hence why only games released on the 26th are currently linked).

Re. generating/pulling in local pricing based on your ISP or PSN ID: Yes, this is a sensible suggestion, and a more sophisticated ‘logged in’ experience is certainly on our shopping list. That said, unfortunately it’s not quite as straightforward as a click of the fingers – it’s a significant undertaking with fairly wide ramifications. In short, it’s not something we’ll be able to facilitate in the short-term. But further out, maybe!

    fustacluck 26 January, 2016 @ 10:57 pm

“We’re always looking for ways to improve how we communicate with our readers and customers”

Nice one Centurion. Like it, like it.

    The_Kiriyama 26 January, 2016 @ 11:27 pm

    Completely reasonable. Thanks, Fred.
Transparency between you and your customers is always the best step.

    nulenvoid 27 January, 2016 @ 12:16 am

Hands on heart nothing to do with minimising inconsistent regional pricing descrepencies? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a region not typically listed complain about not having the local currencies shown unless a particular post omitted one of the regulars like the UK or Australia.

To the person who asked for at least percentages to be shown, while you would think they’d be the same per country they’re not, what may be 50% somewhere will be 33% somwhere else, it’s just how the accountants at SCEE work for whatever reason.

    didsburydan 27 January, 2016 @ 12:19 am

maybe if SCEE stuck with standard exchange rates rather than made up, seemingly random, prices across regions this would be a non issue. noone is going to get confused between a price quoted in EUR and GBP (for example) if the exchange rate you use actually reflects the current market. this excuse seems like a massive cop out imo.

    Stonesthrow 27 January, 2016 @ 2:00 am

I don’t really mind, regularly give it a look on the ps4 store during loading screens or whatever. The lack of an edit option is ridiculous at this point. I think this blog is one of the few places on the internet that lacks it.

I don’t normally make comment but I’m going to explain the consequences of this change in extremely simple terms:

After using a PS1/2/3/4/PSP/Vita fangirl since 1997 and having spent somewhere between 30.000 and 40.000 Norwegian crowns (£3-4k) on EU PSN since 2008, this week I bought the games I wanted from US PSN and Xbox Live, and this will be my modus operandi going forwards. The service from SCEE has been pushing me this way for quite a long time now, but removing the prices from the blog was the final straw.

There is NO other company in the world that behaves like this. You have been posting store prices on this blog for 7-8 years without suddenly being worried about compliance until last week. Compliance with what exactly? Can you show me a law that states when you list the price as ‘UK price’ and ‘Euro price’ that customers in Australia are being misled? The table header quite clearly states that it is not indicative of the price in Australia, for example.

The real problem is that the SCE* group needs to be merged into one, with a single store, much like how the Xbox store works. This will solve all the problems of localizations, differentiating prices, differentiating sales, differentiating release times. The Steam store operates in this way. The Xbox marketplace operates in this way. And until Sony realizes that it operates in a global market and stops this utterly braindead attitude, these problems will continue to manifest.

Why would you make a hyperlink for every game? Just make a hyperlink to the new games or discounted games section in the PSN store because everybody will see the price they have to pay.

And all that years there was no problem with giving the price in €’s and pounds and now it is?! Every country that doesn’t have the euro over here knows what its worth and otherwise they can still look in the store. Sony has become a company that is for me impossible to love…The “battle” is won in Europe so just focus on the freakin US…Just look at there blog..its usefull you know..

    PlaySander 27 January, 2016 @ 4:49 pm

Honestly that’s not a reasonable explanation and totally ridiculous

    extermin8or_ 28 January, 2016 @ 5:51 am

So just wanted to suggest because I think this makes far more sense right why not list the GBP price on the English site (as in England/UK we use GBP) and on the versions of the articles in other European languages list the price in Euros. Then have a note at the top ans bottom of every article telling people using the more obscure currencies which must be the minority of users to click they hyperlink to see local pricing in their currency….. Otherwise the posts about sales and discounts will be very unhelpful never mind these normal store updates which is annoying as it is….

As layman i could see the reasoning behind this…. however as a software engineer creating web applications your team should be able to something about this…. everyone who uses the PSN store has an account, it would only take a few customer settings added in order to show a preferred currency, therefore users who are signed into their PSN account on the blog should be able to see the game prices in their own currency, those that are not signed in could see no prices. this would give users who use their account the information required from a single screen. This is not a difficult job.

    Hi Fred.

By listing the price for the two biggest markets; UK in Pounds Sterling, and the Eurozone in Euros you are not being misleading to other territories because the prices are specific to the UK and Eurozone markets.

I understand it is not practical to list prices for 20 currencies however this new way has not been thought out well because it removes the prices from being viewable by your biggest markets. Now every territory has a raw deal!

I don’t like viewing websites that clickbait me into clicking to read content and I don’t want to view a PlayStation blog post that forces me to click to view a price.

Many people buy items because they see the sales price is so good. With regards to the example of a sales deal offers with over 100 items, I think it unrealistic for you to expect readers to see a list of sale items and then for them to click on each one to see what the price is, especially as the PSN store is not the fastest in loading. So now the place will fall to individual blogs to collate the prices and post them there, however The Playstation Blog should be the place with all the correct information, if the OFFICIAL European website of PlayStation cannot even list the prices for the two biggest territories then it really isn’t fulfilling its duty!

The decision has been made to make life easier for the blog team but it is shortsighted and the wrong one. Let me please ask you to assess your decision with a view to reconsidering it in the future.

    Thank you

    SoulChimera 30 January, 2016 @ 9:00 am

You might want to let Otisha Sealy know about the new legal ruling then, as this was posted the very next day,

“Want in on PlayStation Plus? Join now from as little as £3.33/€4.17 a month!”

kcbeaker79 26 January, 2016 @ 6:25 pm   2

Any word on a release date for shadow of the beast? I read it was the 27 January but not sure if that was for the EU.

    Fred Dutton 26 January, 2016 @ 6:27 pm

No, your sources are unreliable I’m afraid. We’ll confirm a date soon!

The store pre-order says released on 2nd March 2016.
I would assume that was done by an informed decision and not just an estimate / guess though I’d also expect blog staff to be aware of dates given already on the store 😉

    kcbeaker79 26 January, 2016 @ 6:41 pm

Ah well, keen to try this one as it hits all the nostalgia notes for me. Don’t mind waiting though. Cheers for the reply all the same fred

So, no Gemini: Heroes Reborn for PS4 in Europe this week?

    TombRaider95 26 January, 2016 @ 6:39 pm

I’m wondering the same thing. Does the team have any word on this?

    Francesca Mead 27 January, 2016 @ 11:12 am

It will not be releasing this week, but keep an eye out for an upcoming release.

Any word on why we didn’t get 6 full games with PS+ in December?

madmanwithabox12 26 January, 2016 @ 6:32 pm   5

So… is there a genuine reason that new Vita content isn’t listed or highlighted any more?

There is -> The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (PS3 & PS Vita)

Please buy it, it’s one of the best games I’ve played on Vita. Though english dub is badly annoying… whole rest is great.

I want explanation for this too. Hopefully next week we see proper format on store update post.

Cheers for the first post explaining some things, though EU blog loses a lot value thanks to all legal mumbo-jumbo. They sure ain’t making you guys’ job easy, huh. Try to solve discount posts – just listing titles won’t do it. Something must be given instead of just taking away. Hopefully SCEE’s “translate-store-description-or-we-won’t-let-you-publish-in-all-countries” policy gets finally removed. I hate missing games for stupid rule. And all the other things we have gone through all these years.

And if you stop highlighting Vita games, I might stop reading blog after all these years. Just for principle. :p

In the Belgian store Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is only available on PS3 apparently. I can not find it on Vita.

Ok, it is now available on Vita in the Belgian store as well (together with a lot of DLC apparently).

theshortbaker 26 January, 2016 @ 6:34 pm   6

Fred, Fran, whomever – can you please update us on the release or status of Gone Home. Patiently waiting to give you guys some cash but obviously I can’t…

    deathnote2000 27 January, 2016 @ 8:23 am

The Xbox One version is out this week after getting delayed along side the PS4 version. So it should be out this week unless Majesco have just had enough waiting for SCEE and releasing the XB1 first.

Uncharted is still showing as full price – any idea when the deal will be active and how much it’ll cost?

    loonyspoony 26 January, 2016 @ 7:49 pm

There’s the problem with the new system I click through and see £49.99 and don’t know if it’s the ‘deal price’ or not (we’ve had some very bad discounts previously). Will I ever look again, I just may forget to but if I knew the correct price or % discount I’d probably be back.

    Francesca Mead 27 January, 2016 @ 9:55 am

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is currently on sale at £24.99 (this is the discounted price). Apologies that it doesn’t appear to be on sale – we’re working on it.

Jesus Francesca, what if I want to buy it in the Czech republic? You’re totally misleading me!

Release date for strike vector ex and assault android cactus?

    Francesca Mead 27 January, 2016 @ 11:05 am

We don’t have any news about a PS4 release for Strike Vector EX.

For Assault Android Cactus, keep an eye on our channels for further info as I can’t confirm a release date currently.

Glad to see a new Legend of Heroes title in Europe. XSEED localized titles are always welcome, no matter what certain desperate people say.

    deathnote2000 27 January, 2016 @ 8:24 am

Do people complain about XSeed? I thought they were loved, that’s news to me. Looks like a really good game though.

Yes, there’s a guy who started a desperate “boycott” campaign on Facebook (hopefully not really followed) ages ago, because apparently they killed his parents and dog… just kidding, but he’s really that desperate. He’s the same guy who originally translated “Ys The Oath in Felghana”, but then went nuts like a decade ago (after another guy “leaked” his semi-complete English translation patch) and now made XSEED’s demise his only reason of life.

You could list the PS3 and Vita DLC.
What about Towerfall Ascension and Saturday Morning RPG?

That’s ok Fred. Thanks for providing the info, it does help us all understand.

X_Blood_Curse_X 26 January, 2016 @ 6:43 pm   12

Do we find out the Plus games tomorrow? I want to know which puzzle platformer I should expect

This. Also, no new deals? I’ve noticed a few PSOne and PS2 Classics got discounted during the week, from PSPrices.

    nulenvoid 27 January, 2016 @ 11:52 am

On the PS4 PS+ section it has Helldivers and Nom Nom Galaxy (which is in need of some of the PC updates) for Feburary. Both good little games, but unfortunately I own both already. Still good for those who haven’t played them yet.

    X_Blood_Curse_X 27 January, 2016 @ 12:50 pm

Thanks for the heads up nulenvoid, but where are you seeing this? On the UK store it just shows Grim Fandango & Hardware Rivals

    nulenvoid 27 January, 2016 @ 8:05 pm

No problem, I saw it through the PS+ section that they added to the PS4 itself not that long ago, if you go into it you see a couple of sales and your previous PS+ games, I can’t remember what it’s called offhand but there a section called “coming soon” or something that you can select from that screen, the two PS+ games were listed there.

Clicking the links would be fine if all the items had links and if the store had updated! Would like to know how much lego avengers and uncharted actually will be.
There must be a database wita all this data, some kind of web based interface to filter it would solve these problems.

Thanks for the explanation. I personally think the store would benefit from a ‘New This Week’ section. Not recently added over the past month, not split by game/dlc/avatar/theme (sorting would make sense), just everything released this week.

    InsertWittyName_ 26 January, 2016 @ 6:54 pm

There is one already (at least on the website).

From the top nav, ‘New Releases’ -> ‘New This Week’.

Topov, that feature is already there, although it briefly disappeared, for whatever reason, during the holidays.

What happened with listing by platforms? That one makes it harder to search by the platform with the most interest in (PSV for me).

Ryusennin 26 January, 2016 @ 6:47 pm   16

Is Sony Europe closing down or what?

Any chance of Harvest Moon: Back to Nature (PS1 Classic) getting Vita compatibility?

Can you confirm that Project CARS DLC will be released on Friday 29th?

Thanks.

ZeroAbbadon 26 January, 2016 @ 7:22 pm   19

So there wasn’t supposed to be any Rock Band 4 DLC this week, but we get some anyway and its not the ones from last week or the week before that we’re STILL missing. I feel like I’m going mad I swear!

    bartisonline_NL 27 January, 2016 @ 12:08 pm

Be glad we’ve got some DLC….

    drmorris79 27 January, 2016 @ 4:49 pm

Just start? They’ve been doing that for a while…

TheBeanPole 26 January, 2016 @ 7:46 pm   22

Hi,

Where/ when can we expect Civilization for the Vita? Originally was going to be out 3rd Dec, then delayed until today but isn’t there!

Thank you

Nazar_Ops 26 January, 2016 @ 7:59 pm   23

Lol they removed my comment. This is low SCEE… People should start a petition against you or something, can’t believe that most of them are sitting in silence and accepting this. Tweet this out, tell everyone how low SCEE sunk.

SectionHUN 26 January, 2016 @ 8:28 pm   24

Nice week! Bought The Witness, can’t wait to try out. I’m currently thinking about Klaus, any chance for a little discount?

… why you keep posting here if you’re american?

    SectionHUN 27 January, 2016 @ 5:16 pm

Why are you asking stupid questions? I’m from Hungary, this is just my gaming account. USA Store has more demos etc.. i’m buying games and addons on my hungarian account. And im not an american..

Oh, yeah, because i CLEARLY knew that you could’ve been Hungarian… nice.

Please just fix the layout. You don’t have to bring back the prices, but the old layout worked a lot better. I can hardly see what is on which platform.

Dem-ON555 26 January, 2016 @ 8:53 pm   26

Hey,
Do you have an update about the PS VITA Netflix App? Netflix is operating in 130 new territories as of this month, and the PS4 and PS3 catched up quick and opened the App for download. But the Vita version (which exist in America) is yet to be availble.

ZombieMeat666 26 January, 2016 @ 9:14 pm   27

Why Uncharted again? Was.in the Xmas sale just a few weeks ago! Ugh.

RodrigoSharingan 26 January, 2016 @ 10:16 pm   28

The blog post is so bad now. No prices, no platform order.. nothing just Nothing.

Soul Sacrifice Japanese Language Pack has disappeared from the store. Only Soul Sacrifice Delta Japanese Language Pack is there. Any reason for it? It came with the game when you pre-ordered the game back when it released, and now i’m unable to download it. The game itself is there and all other DLC. Only the Language Pack is missing. Is it just another random error, just like Conception II last week?

Thanks if you could check on it! 🙂

fustacluck 26 January, 2016 @ 10:35 pm   30

Two things:

First, will we be getting Saturday Morning RPG? There’s often no way of knowing which releases that are being announced for the rest of the world will ever make it here in the SCEE ghetto, and it’s getting tiresome waiting for games that are never gonna come here for no given reason (the most recent example I can think of is Taco Master on Vita but the list of games that aren’t on the PS Store that have been available elsewhere seems to be getting longer and longer).

Secondly, why are you fragmenting your own territories with regard to release dates? I’ve been kinda cool with having to wait for new releases three days after the rest of the western hemisphere as long it’s the same for all of SCEE’s customers but now you’re making exceptions for certain countries under your purview to get their software before the rest of us. It makes no sense whatsoever and I can’t help but think, given the preferential treatment that you are giving those countries , that the real reason for the lack of pricing on your weekly updates now is that you can charge different prices per country.

The above wouldn’t be a problem if your systems were truly multiregion. Yes, we can play games purchased from anywhere in the world, but that just means that we won’t be able to purchase any compatible DLC to work with those games (which, since there are no notifications warning us, means that anyone who has bought a PS4 game from another territory, whilst on holiday for example, will normally waste money at least once buying DLC from your store that is just useless code that won’t be recognised by the game (for me that happened with LittleBigPlanet for PS3 after purchasing while on holiday in the USA, prompting a need to buy it again over here)).

Please can you start treating your customers fairly, as I’m starting to regret setting up a SCEE account, particularly when the most basic Google search can lead me to setting up an SCEA account, as I would be given a larger and more varied choice of games, cheaper and earlier on all of my Playstation systems, especially Vita, and particularly after last year’s Rocksmith debacle that killed my enthusiasm for that software.

Love my Playstations, hate my territory.

    Francesca Mead 27 January, 2016 @ 11:12 am

For Saturday Morning RPG, we are waiting for the developers to submit a version of the game for SCEE, much like with Towerfall: Ascension on PlayStation Vita. We will update when we have more information.

With regard to the territories we cover and release dates, this largely comes down to the decision of the publishers. I understand that you are looking for a more in-depth answer, but I personally cannot go into much more detail at this time.

    fustacluck 27 January, 2016 @ 5:26 pm

Thanks for the reply, Fran. As unsatisfying as it is, it’s nice to have.

I would understand the idea of it coming down to the decision of the publishers if it were held true everywhere else. I know you probably won’t be able to provide the answer to the following, but how is this only true for SCEE’s store? If the same were true for Microsoft or Steam, or even other territories in SCE, then it would be a lot easier to swallow this extremely bitter pill, but it simply isn’t. The only thing different in the equation for all of these instances is SCEE.

As far as waiting for developers to resubmit the game to you, as is the case for Saturday Morning RPG and Towerfall Ascension, it sounds like the best we can hope for is that the game makes enough money in SCEA to afford the costs of resubmitting (and maybe resubmitting again, and again, as was the case with Costume Quest 2) while still being financially viable for an indie developer to continue doing what they do. As a company that has had massive benefits from being “indie-friendly” (and arguably wouldn’t be in the dominant position that you are without this sentiment), how does hurting indie developers in this way tally with your message? Why can’t the submission process be dealt with by SCE centrally, like it would be in other companies on their formats, so that if someone is buying a PS4 or Vita they know that they have as much chance of playing a game as someone in another country, who has probably paid less for their console, their PS+ and their games?

As I’ve said before, this territory is becoming a ghetto that is hurting gamers, developers and eventually Sony when staying a Playstation customer becomes too restrictive and expensive for those under the SCEE umbrella while other options are available and I personally don’t want SCEE screwing up Sony’s safest territory thinking that it’s so safe that they can get away with treating their customers and third-party developers this way. That’s how Microsoft threw away their lead from the last generation.

It’s nothing to do with the developers will and everything to do with Sony making it as difficult as possible to do business.

AussieOutsider 26 January, 2016 @ 11:27 pm   31

SCEE Still screwing us with the release of Rock Band 4 DLC I see… How many weeks has that been now?

Also Looks like we won’t be getting the Project Cars DLC on Friday.

noodleboy1972 26 January, 2016 @ 11:54 pm   32

Is there any new sales this week.Im asking because there was no post or news about the January sale when it started.Noticed lot of people didn’t even realise until other week when new stuff was added.

ManikwithaNine 26 January, 2016 @ 11:57 pm   33

This blog looks dead. Maybe you could add a short description about each game to make up for what’s missing, otherwise there’d be no point in this blog. Coz I don’t know about most of the games you post, I have to look it up to see if it’s good.

You could always just express the discount from a base currency (say the us dollar) then list the conversion rates for the currencies in the territory each week. Admittedly it would be unusually transparent, but it could be done?

But aside from that the percentage discount must be possible surely?

    nulenvoid 27 January, 2016 @ 9:25 am

Discount percentages vary between countries for some reason, we’re always told the SCEE region is difficult, but with things like doing individual percentages per country it comes across a little self inflicted.

Saturday morning rpg??

no problem prices not on blog but in store curency of contry

but stil not one bit of change ( not even you name change wil do )

i have problem whith store prices overpriced
+ % reduction of = normal prices from real store
why you curency of psn games not same like real stores !!!!
to me = simpel
no corect prices in store = no buy
games more then 1 wheek later in euro then some other contry insite europe = no buy
excl . to ms. ore nintendo more then 1 month = no buy
no psn cards in real store = no buy

Njitram2000 27 January, 2016 @ 7:40 am   37

So instead of most people seeing the price, now nobody gets to. You ask us to click the link but most items in the list don’t have a link and when I click it, it goes to a 404 page. I’d actually like to know what the “deal” for the Uncharted collection is but I can’t.

Yeah, the links don’t work most of the time. I just searched on the Playstation Store itself.
    It is 29.99€ now.

I think it has more to do with the work it takes to find out all the prices and because of how inconsistent the prices are, they can’t even put percentages for the sales because people will complain if it is less in their country.

The think which I find weird is that The Witness is not listed under the “new this month” section in the store.

    You can also check here:
    https://psprices.com/region-nl/discounts?platform=all&sort=date&page=1

Most of the time, they have the prices before they are announced on the blog anyway.

Ok, The Witness is in the list, but it has been put in between the titles of days ago.
I check that list quite regularly, but it is not the first time I missed some things because they are not always put in order they are put on the store (although I do sort by date).

I am sure it wasn’t in the list some days ago.

    nulenvoid 27 January, 2016 @ 9:21 am

MrMette – that’s pretty common, I always check a page or two back if something hasn’t shown. Some things seemed to be added retroactively time wise.

warensembler83 27 January, 2016 @ 8:42 am   38

Any news about letting us change the country on our account? At the moment, the only “solution” I’ve been given by your customer support is creating and having 2 accounts. I already have them and I can download the TV apps with the new account, but then I can only use the free ones on my original account. I want to use the French OCS app on my PS4, so yeah, I could keep one account for all the games/balance/friends I have, and just pay OCS on the new one. However, you also have a -20% discount if you’re a PS Plus member, so my options are: a) paying full price, because I cannot change the country on my account, because of reasons; b) changing my PS Plus subscription to my 2nd account; c) subscribing to PS Plus on both accounts; d) buying an XBOX One, since Microsoft has adapted to the modern world and allows you to change your region/country.

I would like to see an option to edit the date of birth in case one wrote a “fake” one, still remembers it, and want to change it without having to contact the customer support, too. Not my case, but still.

victoriauk 27 January, 2016 @ 10:17 am   39

Personally speaking, I think their reasons are quite reasonable, no problems there. They obviously took the time to explain why and how so I really appreciate it.

So, Thanks and please continue with the awesome work 😉

Why the delay on releasing the War Thunder “The League ‘Dog tag’” DLC?
NA has it for about 2 weeks now. Tournament is in the last rounds this weekend and it makes little sense buying this that late.
I feel just like an 3rd class customer by the delay you caused.

Because the removal of the link to US blog was so highly successful in deterring EU customers from reading the US blog. This is SCEE’s answer to everything sweeping things out of view of your customer and hopes no one knows that large mound in the middle of the floor. Removing all info and pricing is sure to be popular that way we can’t compare prices between countries in the same region (or at least by SCEE logic). Perhaps you should have applied such reasoning to the Singstar debacle but in return made it red and even more noticeable.

If I was a dev I wouldn’t even bother releasing in SCEE territory. The point of contact between your customers and this blog is shambolic at best. The US has a post called The Drop where not only does it announce the titles to be released on the store but gives a description. Why is this so difficult ? Why can’t there be a post like that for EU?

Will you please explain why the PS3 system of booting you out of the store has now infected the vita? Look at download list NP error, manually search for specific game NP error, enter the store NP error, look at sales NP error.

As the games offered on plus have been poor, do you think you could at least invest in a better online experience one where purchasing items on our PlayStation devices actually works. SCEE does realise that if they aren’t selling items then people get laid off as people will shop elsewhere if you implement an antagonistic shopping experience. If this is some type of conceptual art experience then it has already failed, should remove all posts etc and just offer a blank white page like Corbusier apartment block or Ballard’s dystopian horror within that architecture.

Hardly a ‘Deal of the Week’ if you can buy it cheaper online from Base.com .. Why bother?

I really hope February’s PS+ games are worth the sub .. starting to get antsy 🙁

“I really hope February’s PS+ games are worth the sub ..”

You’re setting yourself up for another disappointment then.

Rumor is its Helldivers and nom Nom galaxy on the ps4…

if it’s Helldivers, that’s a half-bummer. Why “half”? Because i bought the game when it went on sale last time… but with all DLC, so i’m fine with that.

Helldivers is fine by me .. I heard that it’s a blast & I almost bought it over Xmas .. glad I held off 🙂

Anyone else noticed the Legends of War PS+ game has changed to the Vita version instead of Vita/PSP version on the store?

    StevenJamesHyde 27 January, 2016 @ 1:00 pm

Er, yeah. The PSP version was (officially at least) an error that was fixed within a day or so of the Plus games going up

Er, ok! I added it first day and only just looked again today. Obviously

Although Fred’s comment is a step in the right direction by actually giving some reasoning behind what SCEE are doing and why, it’s simply not enough. I do applaud him for doing it as the blog team could have simply sat back a suffered the torrent of negative comments to follow.

However, we do need more. There are hundreds of questions continually raised on this blog in the comments, which continue to go unanswered, to name a few:
– Pricing vs US/JP store
– Release dates in different territiories
– DLC not being available in one store vs others

Can’t we have some sort of forum or mechanism where frequent questions are consolidated, based on popularity (a simple poll could accomplish this) and the blog team actually provide a DETAILED answer? Surely it can’t be that difficult, especially if SIE wishes to deliver what it has set out in it’s recent announcement.

“SIE will better respond to the needs of consumers and the evolving digital market to deliver unparalleled interactive entertainment experiences under the PlayStation brand.”

The consumers require a method to communicate their needs and follow a plan to ensure they are actioned accordingly, not just hope that comments in a blog post might be picked up.

Like I said, this is a step in the right direction, but, we need more.

pinkplaybunny 27 January, 2016 @ 2:19 pm   45

Isn’t Constructor HD supposed to be out on the 29th?

    CinderShadow 27 January, 2016 @ 2:56 pm

A delay was announced earlier this month, pinkplaybunny, for Constructor HD. Details through this link: http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/constructor_hd/news/constructor_hd_delayed_to_april.html

On the no prices policy that has been adopted. Two things:

The value of the update post here could be greatly reduced by others sourcing and pricing their own lists, restoring the convenience that will no longer appear here. We are not that far removed from a time that fanpages gained traction by offering DL dashboard theme previews, after the platform holder was found content to leave its audience buying blind.

Also, if the aim is to put more eyes on games, but you don’t want to be accused of misleading pricing details – why not include links to each item on the browser PlayStation Store so that games attracting interest can be discovered (and accurate info found) by each visitor in their local currency/language?

As you point out, you’ve added a little inconvenience, which might put people off. Links to gather the relevant details ought to help give you back your service’s edge.

    pinkplaybunny 27 January, 2016 @ 3:01 pm

    Ah ok thanks!

Microsoft do the same thing and it’s a pain in the ass!!

Fred Dutton 27 January, 2016 @ 4:05 pm   47

Folks, it’s been brought to my attention that some posters have had their comments moderated this week, and are questioning why.

As I hope you can clearly see in this thread and others, we welcome constructive criticism and negative feedback. Please, keep it coming. Just because we don’t reply to every comment does not mean it isn’t taken on board, shared and discussed. On the contrary.

However, trolling, flaming, or use of threatening or abusive language towards other posters, blog authors or SCEE staff will result in the post being removed. Similarly, spamming (posting the same thing over and over again) will attract attention of moderators – as will comments about comments being deleted.

I stand by our moderation team and personally advocate a zero tolerance stance. The internet can be unpleasant enough at the best of times, and any attempt to lower the level of discourse is not welcome here.

FYI, there are a few other reasons why a post may have been removed:

– “First!”
– Promoting commercial activities
– Posting personal details (addresses, emails, passwords etc.)
– Off topic discussion
– Some outbound links may also set off automated filters

If you feel you have been hard done by, please do feel free to contact me ‘off-site’ via Twitter @FredDutton and I will gladly investigate. Thanks everyone.

Can you not honestly see why you are getting so much dislike lately, the way this blog has gone downhill over the last twelve months is embarrassing and more and more people are getting fed up. It’s all very well being the best but the trick is staying there and its getting harder and harder to believe sony really cares about the players any more

Is there even a point in negative feedback if you never really listen to it and simply continue mocking us.

Things are just getting worse and worse Fred, what happened about caring for the players? Are we EVER going to see an improvement. If you can’t comment, roll someone out that can.

You also moderate posts for including the word N O B O D Y (without spaces)

    Explain this, please.

“we welcome constructive criticism and negative feedback.”

You’ve just proven you don’t by deleting several people’s comments. I’m sure this will be deleted too since someone seems to have some sort of vendetta against me here.

Could we not have a blog for each territory? If lumping us all together doesn’t work then it seems the logical route.

I understand the issue of showing all prices but why not just show the euro price, then people (like me in the uk) have to click through to get their local one BUT still have an idea of pricing or discount level.

For me if i cant see a price for a discounted item i’m unlikely to bother clicking through, its usually the price that gets me interested as… lets be honest… if I wanted it that much i’d have already brought it at full price.

Rock Band 4 DLC released 26th January nowhere to be seen

Lego Avengers Add ons and Season Pass released 27th January was that 2016 or 2017

Both dates have passed none of the above content is available.

it might be that it is available in some countries only, I see now similar problem with War Thunder DLC.

    AussieOutsider 29 January, 2016 @ 12:52 pm

I’ve had no issues getting the Lego Avengers Season Pass and the first add on (Civil War Character Pack), but the game was released here in Australia on the 27th.

But I will second the so called Rock Band DLC that never shows up. Where Is it?
