The road ahead for Star Wars Battlefront

DICE lays out its upcoming DLC plans – new maps, missions, outfits, more

Hello Star Wars Battlefront fans. In the two months since we launched Star Wars Battlefront, millions of you have been enjoying the authentic, immersive and visually stunning Star Wars experience our team at DICE set out to deliver.

As we said back in November, the release of Star Wars Battlefront was just the beginning. Our team has been listening to your feedback and building a calendar of new content and tuning changes we will be making to the game throughout 2016.

All fans will get free content that includes new maps for both multiplayer and Missions modes, the introduction of Private Matches, new Hero outfits, and more. Fans looking to get even more out of their Star Wars Battlefront experience can look forward to the Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass, which will introduce a wealth of fresh content set across exciting new locations including Bespin, the Death Star, and more.

We began our post-launch journey together last month with the Battle of Jakku DLC, adding two new maps and the new mode Turning Point. Tomorrow, we are adding more free content to the game for all Star Wars Battlefront players, including:

  •  The Tatooine Survival map will now support the Blast, Droid Run, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs Villains multiplayer modes, and is called Raider Camp.
  • New Hoth-themed outfits for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, both of which will be available to all fans when they play as these two iconic characters on the Hoth – these were unlocked by our players for completing our Heroes’ Holiday community mission last month.
  • We are giving players the ability to create Private Matches, which makes playing with friends even easier.
  • The introduction of Daily Challenges and Community Events. These are designed to rally the Community around certain goals and objectives, giving players the chance to earn credits and unlocks even faster. We’ll have more news regarding Community Events and Daily Challenges in the days ahead.
  •  And of course, we are also including some overall balancing tweaks to both weapons and multiplayer modes.

In February, we will continue to add more free content for all players, including a new Survival mission on Hoth, and a brand-new Hoth multiplayer map that will support our larger game modes, including Walker Assault, Supremacy, Fighter Squadron and Turning Point. Speaking of Turning Point, we are also excited to make this popular mode available on all maps that currently support Walker Assault and Supremacy in the February update.

In March, we will be adding another exciting new multiplayer map on Endor that will support Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, and an additional Tatooine Survival map.

In addition to the free content we will be delivering through March, we will continue to listen to our community throughout the year and provide updates designed to make Star Wars Battlefront even more fun for everyone.

Now, a lot of you have been asking for more details around Season Pass, and we want to give you some more information today. Season Pass is going to give you more of the content you love — maps and modes, Heroes, weapons, and more. We are thrilled to share with you the names of each digital expansion pack, as well as some details on what players can expect with each one and when they will be available.

  • Star Wars Battlefront Outer Rim (March 2016) – Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine
  • Star Wars Battlefront Bespin (Summer 2016) – It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin
  • Star Wars Battlefront Death Star (Autumn 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017) – We will have more details to share about this exciting new expansion pack in the coming months.

All this content is available as part of the Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass, available now for PlayStation 4. Each digital expansion pack will also be available separately. Head on over to our website to learn more about all the exciting content you can expect.

Is it a full game yet? :/

Haha! “We should have the full game ready for you by early 2017, until then save your money and buy the full GOTY edition for £20”

ALEXMACATTACK 26 January, 2016 @ 5:24 pm   3

Excited to get stuck in!

I hope you also release a campaign mode at some point. The game really needs it.

Yeah it’s one of the two reasons I haven’t bought it, the other one is the price for the full game, 110 euro is to much.

    trogistreed420 26 January, 2016 @ 8:05 pm

The original battlefront didn’t have story mode so idk why you would expect this one too. This game is great so far the only draw back is the few heros and villians avalible at launch like why Leia and the Emperor idk but there they are most useless 2 they put on wasting space for better ppl and that they don’t have space battles but that’s obviously coming with the announment of the death star and further more ppl need to stop asking about the force awakens being added through dlc. Your lucky enough that we got battle of Jakku but they already said it was gonna be based on the original 6 movies. Plus the force awakens doesn’t really have a lot to offer in the way of dlc from what I saw besides maybe Kylo Ren other then that that movie was a set up for the next and it was like a remixquel didn’t feel like it’s own movie

The fact the original one didn’t have story mode doesn’t mean anything. This is a new game so they can do whatever they want. I wouldn’t call it great but it’s a fun way to spend a few hours. If it had story mode, then it would be great.

    ShinDanahi 27 January, 2016 @ 11:53 am

IMO, galactic conquest is more important.

    MaxDiehard 27 January, 2016 @ 1:09 pm

@trogistreed420 Uhh, yea Battlefront did have a Campaign mode, as did Battlefront 2.

paleboyjack 26 January, 2016 @ 5:26 pm   5

I’m going to wait until all expansions have been released. I cannot justify the price for the experience right now.

Free content details are very good. But I really expected the season pass stuff to be…..er….better for the £40.

Dont get me wrong. Great locations (especially Death Star) but would be nice to know about new modes, weapons, levelling options, vehicles. It’s not enough just to give people two maps every 3 months. That is not worth £40.

I understand the need to elaborate on the free stuff, given the uproar about lack of content, but I can’t see anyone that has already shelled out £40 being happy with those DLC details.

    Stonesthrow 26 January, 2016 @ 6:00 pm

Never buy season passes up front, not even for your most favourite games.. By the time you finished the actual game you might actually know what’s included in the season passes and can make a more educated guess, and there might even be a sale on it by then..

    Mojo__Man 26 January, 2016 @ 9:50 pm

Of course……I haven’t. There is no point stumping up that sort of cash with zero to show for it for over 4 months.

That’s it , I’m out!
Zero depth to gameplay, amazing graphics, poorly designed maps.
I’ll get rid of this and move on to something much more fun. 2016 doesn’t look like a year with any down time or time to spend on shallow stale games.

…oh and I hope to God you have nerfed Homing Shot. That should only take half health. I am sick of noobs using it.

    jos3moreira 26 January, 2016 @ 5:57 pm

And i am sick of noobs using shield to claim pods and then using jump pack to hide somewhere in the map.

    Mojo__Man 26 January, 2016 @ 7:45 pm

Ah but at least you can counter those! Homing shot….not so much unless you are a long way away with rocks in front of you. Short to medium range….no chance.

    GrumpyMcGrump 26 January, 2016 @ 11:05 pm

    they did actually

    Mojo__Man 26 January, 2016 @ 11:19 pm

    What did they do?

    GrumpyMcGrump 27 January, 2016 @ 12:16 am

Homing Shot lock on time increased from 0.4 to 1.5
Homing Shot lock on distance decreased by 10 meters
Homing Shot projectile speed decreased from 30 to 23

    Mojo__Man 27 January, 2016 @ 8:05 am

Is that in today’s patch? Sounds good. Lock on time especially.

Damage reduction would be better, but I’ll take that!

More Weapons please?
+
More interesting Characters please? Not the boring standard ‘Human 1’ ‘Human 2’ rubbish tho. Star Wars is full of brilliant Characters but only a ‘few’ can be unlocked after level 40’ish 🙁 Where the hell 😀 is Chewbacca to?
+
A Story mode would of been AMAZING 😛
+
For me, 4 player Split-screen to 🙁 + 4 player split-screen mode including online to. Me and my friends would have so much fun on the Hoth’s Walker mode(probably impossible to do) Oh well. Looking forward to the Free stuff anyway thanks.
Oh + R2-D2 and C-3PO in game to 😀 (not played all modes yet so maybe there are in it somewhere)

Stonesthrow 26 January, 2016 @ 5:56 pm   10

Biggest disappointment of the year. At first I was ok with them making shooter spinoffs with the Battlefield engine and controls but after all the disappointment (MoH, Hardline, this) I wish they’d stuck to the real Battlefield sequels and don’t let EA ruin their spotless rep with milking things. This had great potential but should’ve incorporated more Battlefield elements instead of keeping it simple imo.

LightOfValkyrie 26 January, 2016 @ 6:36 pm   11

How about a campaign and/or an offline multiplayer mode with bots? That’d be great considering the single player options are a joke.

I would say this games a Con but as I got it in Christmas sale in PlayStation store I’ll stop there. But the fact off the matter is, it isn’t even half a game. Controversial for me, were paying for a online multiplayer game with AI accuivlant, at least i own it rather than a streamed game. So I don’t have to be online to play. I don’t agree with streamed games apart’ from PlayStation now. Games like crew destiny are a crime it’s bad because it unnecessary to take are choice to play a game away battlefront didn’t so why have these other games, more to the point it would be good to have more flying missions and space crafts and mission from first 3 films phantom menace and the other 2 please.

    Mojo__Man 27 January, 2016 @ 8:13 am

Content is fine. They are releasing free updates throughout this year.

This BF game is original trilogy only.

Streamed games are all available in physical form on eBay, as is a PS3 if you dont have them already. People only pay for that service if they feel it’s good value. It’s a rental agreement – the gaming equivalent of Netflix.

JBskateteam01 26 January, 2016 @ 7:39 pm   13

Why don’t you look at battlefront 1 and 2 and take everything you forgot to bring from them games and bring them to this one you took everything we loved about Star Wars battlefront out of game your game got boring after a couple days the old ones I never got boring

    Mojo__Man 27 January, 2016 @ 8:17 am

    ….for you.

The three significant things “missing” are Galactic Conquest, Prequel content and space battles.

I can honestly see rhem giving us GC as part of the free updates at some point. Space Battles may well come with the Death Star DLC.

But we won’t be getting Prequel content.

Just buy the game when all the free content is out. Problem sorted.

I love the arcady style to the gameplay and flying around is great, don’t know why people complain about the maps when there’s about 12 maps, tho really I’d like to have a death star run game mode or better yet wompa hunt

    MaxDiehard 26 January, 2016 @ 8:30 pm

My only issue is that when I play Fighter Squadron, it always rotates to the Jundland Wastes map after selecting my own. It’s boring as hell and really gives you the impression that there is no other content.

    Mojo__Man 27 January, 2016 @ 8:09 am

Does the map really matter on Fighter Squadron though? If you are playing that mode properly you really pay little attention to your surroundings.

    MaxDiehard 27 January, 2016 @ 1:11 pm

It matters to me when I get the same damn boring scenery all the time.

That’s great, just release a GOTY edition with all the DLC content in DISC and I will buy it then.

Lots of complaints from people that probably haven’t played the game in its current state. Loving it a lot 😀 fantastic action that can be enjoyed together with younger gamers! Keep up the delivering more DLC!

MaxDiehard 26 January, 2016 @ 8:28 pm   17

How about more customisation options?

First Order and Resistance skins.

Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, TR-8R (Shock Staff) as Villains.

Finn (Lightsaber), Rey (Staff), Poe Dameron (Blaster) as Heroes.

Also Poe’s T-70 X-Wing and a Special Forces TIE as Hero/Villain vehicles.

    GrumpyMcGrump 26 January, 2016 @ 11:06 pm

there wont be episode 7 content

    MaxDiehard 27 January, 2016 @ 1:12 pm

I can still hope, especially as Expansion Pack 4 details are still unknown.

Jakku still counts as Episode 7 content, even though it was during the period of the Galactic Empire.

Nazar_Ops 26 January, 2016 @ 8:43 pm   18

2017? By then the game is already dead.

    warensembler83 27 January, 2016 @ 12:01 am

Yet they plan to divide the players with further paying DLC…

    Mojo__Man 27 January, 2016 @ 8:07 am

…like practically every other shooter available then.

Rogue One is out in December. People will still be playing.

Specky_Geek 26 January, 2016 @ 9:10 pm   19

I love it

Hardline was a much much better game.

And that is not saying much because hardline SUCKED

nulenvoid 27 January, 2016 @ 7:50 am   22

I personally would like to see proper bot support for playing the MP modes offline.

Also adding splitscreen so you can play online with a friend would be nice, it’s there for all the offline modes.

Mojo__Man 27 January, 2016 @ 8:27 am   23

One of the biggest issues you have is that the people actually PLAYING the game are already level 50 or very close to it.

For these people (almost certainly your core player base) the “Daily Challenges and Community Events” will be totally meaningless.

Whether its good or bad, a lot of players play to “get further” and will simply get bored once they feel they aren’t “getting” somewhere.

You are really missing a trick here. You need to rectify your end-game content/options.

ShinDanahi 27 January, 2016 @ 11:51 am   24

“Authentic”? Not really. Where is the one and only game mode that matters: galactic conquest? Yet another disappointment marked by the EA stamp…

Still not sold on the SP, so I’ll pass. Gonna have to wait for when it goes on sale.

Tamel_Eidek 27 January, 2016 @ 1:57 pm   26

Im going to ignore all of the salt and hate in here and go out on a limb to tell you that the game is great. There is balance issues (Leia’s Honour Guards, A-Wings(!!), homing shot, cycler rifle) but im glad to hear that these are being addressed.

I do, however, agree with the sentiment here that not enough is being shown to merit buying the Season pass. I personally would like to see characters from episode 1-3 too but I understand that probably wont happen. Let us know more about new maps and heroes etc. Give us something to get hyped about! 🙂

fazefrost94 27 January, 2016 @ 4:01 pm   27

You should bring the bow caster back on the charge it should take out three or 2 now it doesn’t even hurt let’s say half health when your really close to the opposite side

    fazefrost94 27 January, 2016 @ 4:04 pm

And also when you here comments like you should do something about the bow caster they either never watched starwars or they do not know what the bow caster is suppose to do -_-

Rommanose 28 January, 2016 @ 9:31 am   28

Sadly the game I was looking most forward too does not include single player campaign. Multiplayer mode is great for some, not so for others with the single player options boring. I blame myself for not researching that there wasn’t a campaign in the game, I wouldn’t have bought it, #big-rip-off

jason-bridges 28 January, 2016 @ 5:43 pm   29

I don’t understand why dice did vehicles as pickups and not like how it works on battlefield, seems stupid to me. Only focusing on original trilogy was a dumb move there’s not even going to be a lazy cash grab for the new movie, get your act together.

Anyways the tweaks are decent reduced slave 1 health and falcon health was needed, as were the dl-44 and homing shot nerf

jason-bridges 28 January, 2016 @ 5:44 pm   30

2 map dlc packs haha good luck selling anymore season passes
