Multiplayer arena shooter H1Z1: King of the Kill announced for PS4

Zombie MMO spin-off is inbound this summer

You drop into a high-intensity, arena-style grudge match. You activate your inner beast mode, gear up fast, throw together a game plan, and jump into the fray, ready to see if you have what it takes to be the last man standing. Whether you’re racking up a kill streak or just adding to the chaos, you’re ready to spill blood. After all, dying is for losers. Welcome to H1Z1: King of the Kill, coming to PlayStation 4 Summer 2016!

King of the Kill started out as a special game mode inside of the original H1Z1 (an open-word zombie survival game), but as we watched the popularity of the mode grow and grow, we knew it was best for the players to give these games dedicated resources so they could develop and flourish on their own merits.

King of the Kill is being developed as a fast-paced shooter that will be comprised of multiple fight-to-the-death game modes, including Battle Royale. Players will compete in large-scale chaotic PvP spectacles of skill, wit, and a little luck, where everyone must fight to the death to stand alone at the top of the podium.

Will you be the type to hide among the berry bushes, letting most of the crowd thin themselves out before you join the ruckus? Or are you going to dive in, guns blazing, adding kills faster than you can count? Which weapons will you grab first, and what other supplies will help take you to victory? King of the Kill game modes are all about scavenging and strategy (and, yes, a little bit of luck and a whole lot of crazy).

King of the Kill also lends itself well to competitive play, as we saw in 2015 with our TwitchCon Invitational and in-house Showdown event.

We look forward to bringing you this fast-paced, large-scale, chaotic spectacle on PlayStation 4 later this year!

Glad to finally see some news about this!

Are we only getting KOTH for now? Or can we actually just play Battle Royale when this spin-off comes out?

King of the kill includes the battle royal mode. It will cost $20 on release. The survival game will come at a later date at the cost of $20.

Wasn’t the “regular” H1Z1 supposed to come out on PS4 ? Same game as the PC version, I mean.

Battle royal is fun, gotten to last 5 a few times but I’d rather see the normal game than just this section.

But as the game’s F2P it’s not like they’re pulling a Ground zero on it .

    Havocstars 5 February, 2016 @ 8:52 pm

Its not F2P, if you read other news sites about this. They have abandoned f2p and are now going to charge $19.99 for each half of the game. This and the survival side of it.

As Havovstars mentioned. It is $20 (about £15) each game now. No release date for the survival mode yet. I will be getting both for PS4 as I like both modes.

They were meant to be paid early access then f2p at released, and now somehow they’ve no plans.

Didn’t even announce they’d drop the f2p, simply saying they’ve no plan which mean yes it is going to be paid and they can get ******.

Have it on PC from day 1 so I get both but this is still really low.

Q: Will H1Z1: Just Survive and H1Z1: King of the Kill become Free-to-Play games after they come out of Early Access?

A: At this time, we do not have any plans to make either H1Z1: Just Survive or H1Z1: King of the Kill Free-to-Play titles.

So… is this the “same” as the PC H1Z1? just different name?

Nope there releasing the survival mode For $20 some time in the future. This King of the kill is just the battle royal mode and maybe a few new modes which costs $20 also.

    Not forgetting heavy monetization too.

This has Plus written all over the place. Not too happy about it.

From what I’ve read on other sites the massive open world ‘Just Survive’ segment isn’t planned for consoles, instead we get ‘King of the Hill’ a cut down (ie watered-down) set of featured pvp instances.

In otherwords a segment of what the original game offered, so Daybreak can recoup funds and honor their intention of bringing the game to ps4. Shoddiness of the highest order, the thrill was the survival aspect and forming alliances with other players and growing strong enough to take on other groups. I can’t see a market for this, even if it went freemium I’d not be interested in this aspect of the game on its own.

Least we’ve Dying Light The Following to look forward to, and we can pray DayZ will jump over from PC’s.

cant wait

It’s taken so long for this game to launch on the PS4 I forgot it even existed. Even now, after playing the PC release while ago, it feels like an old game (and not one with the greatest reputation either).

Hate to say it, but I feel you’ve must the boat. Not ignoring F2P is the cancer of this generation.

My mistake, forgot it’s not F2P. It just behaves and plays like it’s F2P

It was always billed as FTP. The payment is for “early access”. Absolute nonsense.

Lol, these people must take consumers for absolute mugs.

Not only have you rinsed the PC crowd of £20 for “early access” on a supposed FTP game, you now have the audacity to give people HALF of a buggy and unfinished game….for £20, then charge them another £20 for the other bit of the game. All with microtransactions on top.

Daybreak are doing a great job….

Nice try.

Was very excited for this game a couple of years ago but not going to bother now.

Loads of Microtransactions ontop of a Buy2play model…

No thanks.

I ll pass on this,i ll wait for the survival edition as that is what i was interested in with the game before it got cut up.

This better be a PSN Plus freebie Sony. I mean, be a nice way to kickstart th GOOD PS4 games to be on plus eh. Go on. Bloody well do it. Make the masses happy.

lost al intrest
big world + building + f2p like first promised ( if the game good i buy extra stuf )

original H1Z1 looks promesing , now = a joke

Lamefaise 7 February, 2016 @ 7:53 pm   14

Wasn’t this supposed to be released sooner, mainly the survival mode of it and not some seperated gamemode(s)? — It was promised to be F2P as well, but now we have to buy it.. twice?

I swear, I am losing more interest in videogames already and this kind of stuff sure as Hell makes me wanna play less.

THE_FORCE 7 February, 2016 @ 9:07 pm   15

Do you pronounce this ‘aitch one zed one’?

I normally enjoy a mouthful, but this…..

nulenvoid 7 February, 2016 @ 10:35 pm   16

I’m unsure of the F2P roots, unsure of the microtransactions, unsure of the selling a mode from the PC version for the cost of the full game.

Basically I will wait for reviews.

Classic_Shooter 7 February, 2016 @ 11:56 pm   17

So the PS4 is for the players ?
Funny cause i don’t remember the players asking for this.
I do know for a fact and so does Sony that we want h1z1 the survival game, PS4 only has 1 real survival game minecraft.

PS4
Not listing to the players.
(fixed)

cash grab, no thanks
