Additionally, everyone will have a chance to play free during our open beta from 5th to 9th May.

What is Overwatch?

Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer shooter featuring a cast of 21 dynamic heroes. Taking place on a near-future Earth, Overwatch gives players the ability to bend time, defy physics and unleash over-the-top powers and weapons.

Teams compete in 6v6 objective-based maps set across the world. You’ll be protecting an ancient temple in Egypt, escorting an EMP device through King’s Row in London, battling for control of Lijiang Tower in China, and more. Switching heroes on the fly is key to countering your opponents and to gaining the upper hand in battle.

Why open beta?

We know how important and meaningful it can be to try out a game before buying it. We also want to make sure you get a really good sense of what the full game will be like, so we’re making all 21 heroes and all maps and game modes available in the open beta — that way you can really start to get a handle on the game’s central concepts, like roles, counters and hero-switching, in a variety of different map types.

If you’d like to support Overwatch, you can pre-purchase now at www.playoverwatch.com/buy. As a bonus, you’ll also get the Noire Widowmaker skin at launch.

Thanks, we can’t wait for you to join us soon.

Awesome. I was wondering when PS4 was going to get a beta, since you release like 3 on PC

Despite not being an online gamer this looks great, I love the art direction.

Kind of reminds me of Timesplitters.

Why do we replace multiplayer demos with betas? Why can’t multiplayer games have limited demos like Battlefield 2 back in the day had demo version which had single map with medium and small map size available. That demo ran very long time if I remember correctly. It would allow people to test the game after this brief beta period.

I like the look of the game and hopefully will enjoy the beta since the gameplay varies quite a lot for each hero. If nothing bad rises up during the beta this game will get sale from me.

Q. Do I need Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus to participate in the Open Beta?
A. Due to the multiplayer nature of Overwatch, Xbox Live Gold is required to play during the Open Beta and at launch. PlayStation Plus is not required during the Open Beta, *but will be required to play at launch*.

It appears I will be getting the PC version after all. I rarely play games with multiplayer components, I’m generally not interested in the content they offer in IGC and I’m a student so I’m not interested in paying for PS+.
