All the announcements from the PlayStation E3 2016 Press Conference

God of War, Spider-Man, Death Stranding, Resident Evil 7, Days Gone, more

We have just concluded the PlayStation E3 Press Conference for 2016 and if ever there was a year dedicated to thrilling entertainment experiences, this is it. This year we unveiled a stellar line-up of extraordinary games for both PS4 and the upcoming PlayStation VR. We showed incredible new games including Days Gone from the SIE Bend Studio, the new Spider-Man from Insomniac Games, God of War from SIE Santa Monica Studio, Death Stranding from Kojima Productions, and Resident Evil 7 from Capcom.

Other featured titles from SIE Worldwide Studios included the highly anticipated titles Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, and The Last Guardian, which I’m delighted to confirm will launch on PS4 on 25th October 2016.

We also confirmed that PlayStation VR will launch on 13th October 2016. And what is a new platform without content? In the press conference, we unveiled unique PS VR experiences, including Farpoint from Impulse Gear, Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission from Electronic Arts, and Batman: Arkham VR from RockSteady and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment.

Perhaps I should address the bandicoot in the room. My T-shirt choice for the keynote at PlayStation Experience in December caused a bit of a stir. So you can imagine how thrilled I am that we worked with Activision to bring one of PlayStation’s most celebrated characters, Crash Bandicoot, to PS4. The Crash Bandicoot Remaster, will contain Crash 1, Crash 2 and Warped, fully remastered for PS4. Speaking of our partners at Activision, PlayStation continues to be the home to one of the world’s biggest franchises with the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Believe it or not, I’m only scratching the surface on E3 this year – you’ll find more details below, and we’ll be adding updates throughout the week.

Before I sign off, I want to thank you for your support. When we launched PS4 in 2013, we made a promise to put gamers first and I am so proud that we have continued to build on that promise and bring you entertainment experiences only PS4 can deliver. Let us know what you think about the show this year and thank you so much for continuing this journey with us.

Cryptark
AlienTrap Games
PS4
An ancient floatilla of derelict hulks drifts through space, ripe with valuable alien technologies just waiting to be salvaged. Even though the alien inhabitants are long dead, cybernetic security systems lie in wait to shred any intruders. Empowered by a contract of privateering, and a surly mech-suit bristling with ordnance, you must plan your boarding action, load munitions, and blast your way through the alien wreck to destroy the Security Core and get paid! Cryptark is a plasma-scorched 2D sci-fi shooter, and all of us at AlienTrap Games are excited to be showing it off at E3 this year. We’re certain that Cryptark’s aggressive firefights will get some smiles on the showfloor, but there’s more depth beyond just the flying shrapnel. As a scrappy mech privateer, everything you do is financially orientated. All those shells and rockets cost money! Achieve the obscure objectives set by your shadowy employers, and increase your rewards. Just don’t get fragged, or you’ll be left holding the bill. Go into the red, and your tenuous government contract will be terminated! Cryptark will be bringing its unique blend of action combat and “space-pirate business management” to the PlayStation 4 this fall.

Dear Esther
The Chinese Room
PS4
Back in 2012 Dear Esther pushed forward the boundaries of game design and broke the mold in storytelling — not bad for a project that began as a Half-Life 2 mod. We at Curve are bringing it to PlayStation 4 this summer with added Director’s Commentary mode, redefined controls for modern consoles and Trophies to unlock throughout the game. For the first time PlayStation 4 owners will be able to explore the mystery of this remote Scottish island. There’s a lot of questions to be answered: What is the significance of the aerial – What happened on the motorway – is the island real or imagined – who is Esther and why has she chosen to summon you here?

Verdun
M2H & Blackmill Games
PS4
Anxious for a WW1 shooter? Verdun, the first WW1 FPS game is coming to PlayStation 4 on August 30. Over the past year we had lots of requests for a console version from the Verdun community, so we couldn’t stay behind. We started fine-tuning the game with Abstraction Games for the console version. We distracted the community with several free expansions on the PC, ones that of course were in favor to expand the WW1 realism and Western front for all of you. We hope this surprise is not only exciting for the Verdun community but also for all you curious PlayStation players! For those that haven’t heard about the game yet, Verdun is a multiplayer first-person shooter set in a realistic World War One setting. The game takes place on the western front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history. The developers were inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun France in 1916. The game offers 4 distinct game-modes: Frontlines, Attrition, Rifle Deathmatch and Squad Defense.

That was an interesting night. Sony had all the games, MS has thrown the gauntlet with their Scorpio. Will be interesting to see what the re-specced Neo will pan out.

Somehow I get the feeling that Scorpio/Neo is going to be more of a full console-cycle than the XB1/PS4 ever was, seeing the big leap to 4K in 2017.

And that’s exactly what bothers me. The line-up is absolutely stunning, but I don’t have a PS4 yet, because I waited for the ‘Slim’ version, which started to be Neo, which should come out this October (yes rumours, but still), which is or is not compatible with this stunning line-up, which is or is not more expensive, a full new console or an upgraded PS4. Nobody knows anymore and Sony is keeping silent. So I’ll wait until I know. I think there’s a lot of people out there who won’t buy a PS4 until they know what’s coming next!

So nice to see a release date for The Last Guardian. I think it’s likely to be something very special!

Found it a bit underwhelming to be honest, wouldn’t say ms was loads better but just always get a feeling of, we know are leading so don’t have to do much or impress anyone from sony

Thanks for all the Vita announcements Sony! We all really appreciate how much time, work and money you have put in your handheld. Big kiss from all the Vita fans. #4theplayers

At this point I’d be more inclined to blame smartphones and the whole fad around that, although the support of portable gaming devices and its software shouldn’t be influenced by that, but sadly it is..
And if you thought Vita support was bad, be glad you didn’t get a Move.. I look with the same skepticism towards VR. If they can’t get a great portable off the ground, how do they expect this to do well with a pricetag like that? VR is dead on arrival as far as I’m concerned. Only viable for pr0n and museums, the gaming industry shouldn’t bother with its development.. If this is successful in gaming at this point, I have officially lost all hope in my fellow gamers.

Regarding announcments Im little ocnfused about Stick of Truth announcement. As far as I know “Ubisoft announced today that South Park: The Stick of Truth will be available to play beginning today when you pre-order South Park: The Fractured But Whole.”
So how do I preorder it on PS4 to be able start playing Stick of Truth?

5.1

Only currently available to digitally pre-order on the North American PSN store. They get the digital download of Stick of Truth’s PS4 version to download instantly after pre-ordering. Physical pre-orders get the code when the sequel releases.

Hopefully we will get a digital pre-order with today’s store update (or soon after) as well.

5.2

zedorp: lets hope. Im definetly planning to the FbW. So preorder is not a issue for me and if I can get SoT now, I want it :-D
Small delay is not a problem – I still ned to finish Witcher 3 anyway. But knowing the date will be nice. HOpefully it will be available during today.

5.3

I would like to know that too. I even cancelled my physical copy so I can play TSoT again (but this time on my PS4). Would be nice if there is some more information about when available in EU PSN store…

Great Show. Great Content although a very few release dates.
Good space for VR games but no predominance.
Tons of gameplay videos.

Obviously we all know Neo exist but why announce it one year before and make people doubt on their purchase or wait before buying a PS4.

The competition can’t stand this year too.

I figured Microsoft would win with the Xbox-PC combo, real smart move on their behalf, on top of the BC.
But Sony definitely won in terms of a good convention. Game after game, opening strong. They’re really getting the hang of what it should be. I was fairly bored with E3 in general this year and Sony saved it.

11.1

Eh, it was never going to win with the Xbox-PC combo because it’s actually Xbox-Windows10store combo, now, if it was Xbox-Steam combo, HOLY S… But that is never going to happen. :)

Sony clearly had the best conference, the only thing lacking is coop/multiplayer games but i guess they rather leave that with multiplataform games 30 days type of deals.

After Sony’s absolute lack of support for the Vita, what would stop them from abandoning the PS VR a couple of years later? The way Sony has treated their products, particularly PS Vita and PSTV, would make many wonder if they’ll ever invest in their consoles anymore. Sony simply has lost their credibility in supporting their products. And do not think the PS VR will be any different. It will come and go, and will be forgotten about in no time.

Are there any other advantages that Neo has over the current model besides those two things? Will there be a Neo/Regular version of games being made?

Processing power and frame rates will be better.

Yes “apparently” all games will run on both machines.

Why is that the offer on South Park Stick of truth for free when pre-ordering the new game went on the US store immiediatley yet we STILL don’t have it on the EU store? Not acceptable really, way to make us feel appreciated Sony…

Please explain to me… You released a portable gaming device and don’t release games on it?
Fine you won’t make first party exclusives anymore… but at least bring some multiplatform games on it. I would love to play skylanders, Resident Evil (4, 5 and 6), Tomb Raider Trilogy. Something!!!

Why didn’t you show Gravity Rush 2 at the press conference? It was an amazing trailer, would have barely taken any time and let people actually hear about it.

INCREDIBLY pleased to hear of The Last Guardian’s finally imminent october release date. Collectors editions for the game are strictly limited and I have pre-ordered mine. If you are a Kiwi living at home you can pre-order thru the link I provide below, where I did, at mightyape.co.nz . If you are not, you can still have a good squizz at the beautiful WETA-esque statue that is part of the upcoming CE: https://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/The-Last-Guardian-Collectors-Edition-PS4/25292455?utm_source=MailingList&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=games&utm_content=53247

blah…blah blah…….Nothing that new or great yet another zombie game a rehash of crash some more shooters and……well, The last guardians finaly got a release date after it was announced in the early days of ps3, am I the only one thinking it should be tied to the hardware it was announced for?
so if youre one of the few that got excited for any of the annoncements I wouldn’t be expecting all of them to release on the current gen console because we all know Sony likes to jump the gun with anoncements before they’ve even put pen to paper.
I’m still sore from No mans sky erm how many years ago!!!

Its NOT a rehash of crash bandicoot its a full groundup remake you silly fruit :D

Yay loads of vr games, for a £350 add on. Hi Sony, sorry to bother you, i know you’re busy with Neo, not sure if you remember you released something called a ps4? Could you release a few more games for that before you abandon it? Thanks that’d be great. Oh you are? A load of remasters of games i bought nearly a decade ago and some indie games? Thanks Sony, glad i bought a next gen console now. Lets hope the playstation exclusive spider-man game delivers…wait a minute you cheeky rascals is that just a remastered spider-man 2? Oh you, what are you like!
