Driveclub VR announced for PlayStation VR

Get a fresh perspective on the PS4-exclusive racer

While we normally like to keep everyone in the Driveclub community up to speed on any developments, we’ve had to keep this one under the hood…until now. So before Gamescom 2016 kicks-off tomorrow and you have the chance to get hands on with the game, we’re very proud to officially announce that Driveclub VR is launching in 2016 exclusively on PlayStation VR.

We’ve been working tirelessly on Driveclub VR for over a year now, to bring you the definitive and most immersive Driveclub experience possible.

Driveclub VR

We’re passionate about trying to create the most memorable and exhilarating gaming experiences possible, so being given the opportunity to take Driveclub to a more immersive level thanks to VR is really thrilling.

This not only allows players to truly feel the incredible speed, sensation and precision of driving some of the world’s most exotic high performance cars, but also the chance to race against or with one another in a completely new way.

    standalone title or dlc? cost?

    1.1

Doesn’t sound at all like it is going to be an add-on. I hope it isn’t full price, Driveclub never was so it would feel especially hefty.

    1.2

According to PlayStation’s tweet this article contains “everything you need to know”.
So, no need to ask questions. You don’t need to know this.
    ;)

This is not the place to ask questions!

Who is handling this project given that the original developer is no more?

    2.1

Driveclub developer Evolution Studios was closed by Sony but the team was later “hired” by Codemasters:

Please, add the new tracks to the original Driveclub, even as paid DLC.

will the new features, tracks also become available for the original driveclub ?

Now am I the only one who now wants Tokyo Bus Driver to be ported to PSVR too?

I meant “Tokyo Bus Guide”… My bad

Only if it plays the Funky Soul Bus song non-stop!

Wasn’t this already announced ages ago?

Regardless, I’m looking forward to this. I’ve never really been into driving games, but I love the idea of racing in VR. Can anyone recommend a good wheel + pedal setup that will work with this game? If I’m going to do this, I want the most realistic experience possible! :)

    6.1

I can only recommend the one I own but I’ve found it fantastic, the Thrustmaster T300 RS. It works with the PS4, PS3 and PC via a switch on the front (PS3 is also PC mode), you have all the controls you need. I use it regularly on all 3 platforms without problems and the force feedback is sufficiently strong. Owned it for well over a year now using it in Driveclub, Dirt Rally (PC) and the odd PS3 game.

It’s a shame I never played DriveClub in first-person mode (always preferred an arcade style gaming experience)

“we’ve had to keep this one under the hood”

Why? Is this a state secret? Many other development team have been very open about upcoming VR titles.

Maybe it’s my grumpy old age (feel free to point out it is), but I’m becoming increasingly irritated by development teams acting as if they’re holding the codes for nuclear war heads.

I understand the need to protect IP but more often than not, it’s becoming over the top. There are laws to protect IP.

Still, I suppose we can be thankful it wasn’t announced a year ago with ‘coming soon’ attached to it. Unless it just fas been…….

    8.1

    Wow, relax a little.

“Under the hood”.. clearly a car pun.

I can feel motion sickness coming on. Sweet, sweet, worthwhile motion sickness.

I really really want this but what Sony did to Evo after they turned DC around so spectacularly, sticks in my craw a little.

And full price after having bought the non vr version at a premium on day one, would be a no-no. That’s a precedent I’d rather not set.

So is this evo studios making the game or is this a seperate company as i thought they were closed down?

I only buy this if it’s like DLC and the new tracks are also playable in the main game.

A VR game ….wih Driveclub vehicle physics?
    No thanks.

    14

If I already own Driveclub + DLC on PSN, am I going to have to buy this again? Will the same tracks and vehicles I own be available in the VR version?

    14.1

On the tracks front read the flipping bullet points!

Your question is about buying games twice, this is a hot topic these days, so most likely you won’t get an answer here.

    15.1

    @tenshi_alpha

    15.2

It’s not just that, it’s also that Driveclub is pretty empty without its DLC.

    Very exciting,

Or better said Fan-bloody-tastic ! Although I dont think its a good idea to get this piece of expensive of hardware just for one game. PSVR will be 400 euros so I definitely wont be trying this on day of the release but with time I will sure be giving this a go, especially once the price drops significantly…but man, Iam really craving some new tracks and locations, will we get those for the ps4 game aswell as an update or should I not expect rhis to happen?

Anyway with new sony console on the horizon I will probably use the money to buy that instead, it really depends what hw will present more interesting and exciting content for me, Iam currently more inclined to get ps VR solely because of Driveclub VR . We’ll see how it all turns out, with the PlayStation meeting event in NY going live in under one month on 7th september Iam expecting some more news on ps neo. But I will surely keep an eye on driveclub VR, because its the only VR game so far that peaks up my intere...

I don’t care for VR at all, but hopefully there will be a 60 fps patch for the standard DriveClub version.

    17.1

    There won’t be.

    17.2

Fantastic! I have the Oculus and Project Cars is incredible in VR. A racing game in VR is something EVERYONE needs to experience. It blows the normal experience away!

Can I play the game in 3D now on my TV?

    18.1

    Nope

Nice to see Driveclub VR being released.

If possible also add to sprint challenges to Game Mode’s.

Very interested to see if those urban tracks make their way to regular driveclub, they were clearly being made for that until evolution were disbanded.
Back in December Paul rustchynsky announced that urban TRACKS (with an S) would be coming to driveclub. In February we received old town Scotland, however there were images when the tracks were announced that weren’t of scenery in old town (look like the games representation of India). Shortly after evolution were shut down but we were told the game will continue to evolve under Playstation. There hasn’t been an update to the game since.
Fast forward to now and there is a full priced driveclub vr on the way with 5 brand new urban tracks (let me guess, Canada, India, Japan, Norway and Chile).
Personally I find it a big kick in the teeth if those tracks fail to make it to regular driveclub given they were in development for it and held back to give people a reason to stump up full price for this.

Also the last couple of updates by evolution said the companion app (a feature so big, it features on the back of the game box) was pretty much ready for release. Obviously since their closure, we’ve had no updates to the game and thus no companion app. Sonys treatment of the driveclub player base has been disgusting to be honest, especially as we were told Playstation would keep the game alive for us. Alive by charging full price for a vr mode and a few tracks held back from being released.

As for Driveclub it appears we will also an update with brand new urban tracks https://twitter.com/Rushy33/status/766282488763322369

    Nice

I don’t like racing games, I’m bad at them. But I will try this because of the other modes.
