Hold back the darkness in Claire: Extended Cut, out 30th August on PS4

Hailstorm’s elegant retro horror game lands next week

We are excited to announce that Claire: Extended Cut is coming to PS4 on Tuesday, 30th August. Two years in the making, our small team has put in countless hours and extra love into the Extended Cut for PS4.

The most exciting feature is our upgraded engine and ability to pull in dynamic lighting and real-time shadows into this retro-styled game. We’ve created an amalgam of old-world pixel art techniques with new-world technology. The game’s been overhauled with false depth and 3D objects to create a 2.5D result. The world is alive and moving, Claire’s not just being chased by shadow creatures, but by her own shadow and everything around her! Extended Cut is a lot closer to our original vision of what Claire could be.

While the environment of Claire is dark, brooding and somewhat sarcastic, we didn’t want to make the standard dull… grungy… grey… bloody… type of horror game. We really wanted to balance horror with a bit of beauty. Those moments of respite where Claire can relax for a few minutes before reality kicks back in again.

If you’re unfamiliar with Claire, it’s about a teenage girl struggling to make her way through high school because of her constant nightmares and dreamscape. Failing out of school and trying to take care of her sick mother, the stress gets to her. As she tries to hold it all together, the past, the present and something else entirely… mesh together.

Claire constantly shifts to and from her younger self, reliving moments without realising anything’s changed. But Claire’s not alone in the darkness, she’s accompanied by a dog wondering the grounds, and few other people that could use assistance as well. It’s up to the player to put the pieces together. Extended Cut goes a little deeper into Claire’s history bringing up more questions, and more answers.

We hope PlayStation gamers love playing it as much as we loved making it!

Hi Joshua, any chance of a PS Vita version?

I second the Vita version motion!

It is crossbuy, according to the US blog, but for some reason no mention on EU one.Hope we aren’t getting left out again.

Third the motion! I hope we don’t get left behind, this will sit nicely next to “Home” and “Lose Survivor”

Looks good, reminds me somewhat of Home. Hope its as good :)

Not a game for me. Reminds me too much at first glance of Lone Survivor and that game did my head in. I still can’t believe just how many retro styled games are swamping the ps4. I appreciate it’s an indie console and culture but I bought a ps4 to move my gaming experience onto the next level, not to find old school games with upgraded controls everywhere I turn.

Swamped, hardly, isnt it good to have choice, i bought my ps4 to play good games, i liked lone survivor and your spoilt for choice with big budget games so i never understand when somebody trots out the same sentiments you just did.It sounds a bit elitist, is it the gfx that bother you.

Weird, the game will be released for PS Vita too in NA territory and no news for a EU version.

im still gutted that playstation are not giving the ps3 its full potrntial on DESTINY and now only ps4 get the dlls after spending fortunes on various games and destiny in particular I and quite a lot of others in my area are fuming its not just young folks who play these games but the older generation also you get used to a system you like and we do know what it is all about its about money profits ect take note playstation not everyone wants a ps4 or an x box 1 you need to rethink for the benefit of those who have spent knowing they would get a good reliable gaming stage through playstation now you are taking it away

And it was never put into the store for playstation 4 or the vita, what is up with this game?! It did release in the US
