The PlayStation weekly wrap-up

5 2

All the headlines that matter from the past seven days

Excited for PlayStation VR? We certainly are – which is why we’ve kicked off a series of weekly spotlights on specific VR games in the run up to the 13th October launch. Take a look below for your first steps into a PS VR revolution. But if you’ve already thrown yourself into all of our PlayStation VR Worlds features for this week, there are still plenty of other sweet treats to enjoy…

This week’s biggest new trailers

  1. PlayStation VR Developer Diaries | Ep. 1 A Vision for the Future of Play
Go behind the scenes with the teams who know PlayStation VR best, and get an impressive look at how the groundbreaking tech came together from its initial conception.

  1. PlayStation VR Worlds – Danger Ball trailer
Forget all that track and field stuff – this is the true sporting event of the summer. Sure, your life’s on the line, but what’s a little competition with high stakes?

  1. PlayStation VR Worlds – Scavengers Odyssey trailer
Treasure hunting, beastie bashing and galaxy raiding – it’s a sci-fi archaeologist’s dream come true…. apart from the nasty creatures baying for your blood…

  1. FIFA 17 – official gameplay trailer
As a new season in the English Premier League kicks off, EA Sports gives us a bit of Frostbite to go with new signings, moves and celebrations. Oh, and a Song 2 remix, to boot.

Tweets of the week:

Around the world of PlayStation:

We don’t know why you’d want to smell South Park’s Fractured But Whole, however if you’re curious (or just crazy) enough to want to experience the forthcoming PS4 game in a new way, Ubisoft has you covered. The Nosulus Rift is a gaming wearable that lets you smell your character’s toxic… gassy excess. While it’s possible you won’t be able to try it out via normal means, as it may not be actually sold in shops, consider yourself duly warned.

This week’s PlayStation Store ‘leftfield’ pick:

Here’s a challenge: how many quirky and inventive sci-fi romance adventure games have been made our beloved medium? I’m willing to bet you’ll still have a few fingers left on a single hand (if you were actually counting on your hand). So the arrival of Alone With You on PS4 and PS Vita is a rather special occasion. Thoughtful, emotional and featuring a wonderfully eclectic soundtrack, go into this game blind and enjoy the starry eyed journey.

The pick of PlayStation Blog:

  • A closer look at PlayStation VR Worlds’ sci-fi treasure hunt, Scavenger’s Odyssey
PlayStation VR Worlds’ deep space trek has been hiding away in the depths of a faraway nebula, but we snagged it for an in-depth look as its prepares to land in October.
  • How PlayStation VR Worlds was brought to life with extraordinary art
You’ve seen the beasts that you’ll be facing down in this fantastic looking PSVR title, so here’s a little beauty to help balance it out.
  • Just a brief reminder, all of our PlayStation VR Worlds goodies have been handily collected over at our Storify page.
  • New Gravity Rush 2 characters and locations revealed
Lisa, Vogo, Cecie and others join Kat in the increasingly gorgeous looking Gravity Rush 2. We heartily approve of their wonderful designs.

And the rest of the headlines:

What we’re currently playing:

Rhys: “I’m making progress with No Man’s Sky; the creatures are getting weirder, the Sentinels are getting more aggressive, and I’m slipping into a life of piracy. Now I’ve beefed up my ship’s Photon Cannons, no freighter is safe.”

Corey:Day of the Tentacle‘s got its sticky hooks back into me of late. Feels so good to be back in the mansion. Although it also kinda feels like déjà vu. Hmmm.”

Matt: “I’m currently trying to avoid being blown to smithereens in Divinity Original Sin‘s Black Cove – it’s addictive as hell!”

Tell us what you’re playing below, have a great weekend and see you on Monday.
