Free demo disc with PlayStation VR, at launch (update)

Try out eight games, including DRIVECLUB VR and RIGS Mechanized Combat League

UPDATE: Last month we announced a demo disc will ship with every PlayStation VR system, including samples of eight titles: Driveclub VR, RIGS Mechanized Combat League, Tumble VR, PlayStation VR Worlds, Battlezone, EVE Valkyrie, Headmaster and Wayward Sky. Since that announcement, we have been working hard with publishers to offer additional demos for gamers in the SIEE region.

While they won’t be featured on the disc, we are happy to confirm that the following demos will be available as a free download on PlayStation Store from today: Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Here They Lie, Harmonix Music VR, Job Simulator, Rez Infinite, Thumper, Allumette.

Note: The download, titled ‘PS VR Demo’, is around 38GB in size and will also include the titles from the demo disc. In addition, the Resident Evil 7 Kitchen demo will also be available as a separate free demo on launch day.

What a nice surprise!

What year is it? A demo disc? When I was younger most of my time spent on PSone was playing demo discs. I even have the famed demo disc one somewhere with the tech demos of the T-Rex and giant Manta Ray.

Going slightly off topic there but this is great news. There are a couple of games on here that I do not know much about and have not pre-ordered so will be great to try before I buy, the games at least.

i agree, the amount of demos that we dont get is sad, actually. Especially if i count in the amount of [DELETED] AAA Games we got in the last years. And i remember the Manta Ray Demo, well i think i do. i remember a ps1 demo in wich you controlled an animal undersea, not sure if it was a manta tho.

The demo discs where so amazing, especially the one’s with Net Yaroze. Basicly indie games on the ps1 :p.

I thought it was just going to be some simple tech demos, but this is actually a pretty good selection!

It’s already nice but I would have also enjoyed a single complete game

I thought that the Demo Disc will be only for USA, cool. Can you confirm that will arrive to all the EU countries?

This is on the EU Blog…work it out.

Would I be able to buy playstation vr on day one because I haven’t pre orded

Probably not now.

Amazon UK have stock for 13th October delivery currently. That’s where mine is on order, can’t wait for delivery.

Will this demo disc be included with every PSVR unit, or only in bundle with camera, moves and VR worlds?

Read the article.

‘Included for free with every PlayStation VR unit, the disc lets you try:’

Not true it’s extra for the demo , just been on the phone with SONY SUPPORT and they say it cost £379 with this disc , disgraceful again from Sony

Will we also get demo’s like ‘The walk’ (walking between 2 buildings like in the movie) which u demo’d at various events ?

i pre orderd world in real store = cheaper
also later eve
other games not intrested
usb charging controlers – moves …. 2 usb ports on ps4 realy stinks ( hope neo gething 4 )

hope to see ful rpg vr game !!!!
a bf – cod game ( not a mini game )

I know that getting a response will be a long shot, but…

Will we be able to install these demos to the HDD? Via disc or store?

I doubt it. HDD installs are extremely useful for Remote Play but less so for games that require a physical presence. Yes I know, swapping discs is hard work. (Oh, the good old days when you had to type over 30.000 lines of code from a magazine for some freeware on the C64.)

Disks on PS4 and Xbox One hold compressed data, that’s why you have to always install data on the HDD now, as it’s uncompressed data from the disk.

Ooooh, a demo disc! This is certainly a trip down memory lane for me! I’m really pleased the PlayStation VR comes with a demo disc as it’ll allow me to give other VR games a go, considering I won’t be able to afford them all as well as the price of the headset! :P

Just over a month to go now woo!

Ayyyyye let’s bring back the demo discs!

Very cool, this is great news!

I assume that not everyone has the means to buy a pile of games when having shelled out for the VR-set, so it’ll be great to get to test out a larger selection.
I already have my TumbleVR on pre-order, as I loved that on Move/PS3, and will probably get Until Dawn to go with it. After that, it’s a toss up… So a demo disc is great.
Well done!

Great news. It is absolutely right to make a demo disk for this new medium. People need to get some play time with the new headset and figure out the experiences they like.

This is a pleasant surprise! I didn’t expect that Sony would add anything to the PS VR-unit as they’re releasing VR Worlds (which to me looks like a bundle of VR-experiences). But this is really nice! Thanks ;).

Will any of these be MP accessible?

While I really like this I also think demos for VR games are a necessity.
For normal games one has only to judge if the game will be something you can enjoy, and when you have a little experience you’ll probably know from some videos and previews/reviews if you will like a game.
But for VR games there is another aspekt to consider: motion sickness. Sure, most game developers try to minimalize the effect, but some people are more susceptible for that than others. So if you don’t have friends where you can try the games, a demo is the only way to know if you can bear the motion of a VR-game.

wow FREE demos!!!

Not free just been on with Sony it’s extra for the disc

Between this and Playroom VR we’re going to have a lot to try out before we even need to make a software purchase! Plus games like Volume and Bound that I’ll already have are VR compatible.

No where near as massive as the US demo though

NA gets 18 demos – what’s up with that? :(

They really want us to not care and go fully with a US account. Or they have policies since the Walkman days and forgot about the world evolving again.

Wait a minute (8 titles)? PS VR US demo disc (18 titles)???!!!!

I know right, it is still nice that they give us demos!

… Where is Rez? Where is Harmonix Music Vr? :|
Well I ain’t really that confused. It’s usual business as usual since the inception of it. Paid events to try PSVR here and I can just pop in at any large retailers in the states to try it, for free.

I can’t wait till the 13th of October! It takes so long! Love you Sony!!! :D
