Driveclub VR launches 13th October, with upgrade option for Season Pass owners

Plus, more information on how the VR racer was developed

Hi everyone! Following last month’s announcement about the impending arrival of Driveclub VR and seeing the great response from fans who managed to get hands-on at Gamescom, we didn’t want to keep you waiting around much longer for a release date.

Driveclub VR

So – drum roll – we’re proud to announce that Driveclub VR will be available exclusively for PlayStation VR from 13th October this year. The game will be available as both a physical Blu-Ray release and a digital download via PlayStation Store. The digital download via the PlayStation Store will be priced at €39.99 (RRP).

Driveclub VR

Because Driveclub is and always has been about the community that surrounds it, we’ve also included a digital upgrade for anyone who bought the Driveclub Season Pass before 00:00 AM BST on Thursday 29th September, priced at €19.99 (RRP).

We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone out there for their continued feedback and support. There has understandably been a lot of questions about how Driveclub VR was developed and there’s clearly a lot of respect for the development team at Evolution, so I’d like to clarify how we made the game.

Driveclub VR

Recreating Driveclub as a standalone VR title was a huge task. As you know, Driveclub had a vast amount of content, so re-engineering the game to render everything in stereoscopic 3D, natively at 60Hz and then adding the head tracking with 120Hz visuals took a long time. In addition, the team added several VR-specific features and made the game look every bit as amazing as you would expect.

The majority of the game was completed by Evolution, with the remainder carried out by a dedicated team comprised of Evolution Studios veterans, several of which now are also members of the WWS Immersive Technology Group – so you can be assured that Driveclub VR is in safe hands.

Once again I’d like to thank everyone for their passion and support and express how humbled and grateful we are for the dedication you’ve all shown to Driveclub.

Driveclub VR is now available to pre-order on PlayStation Store. For more information on Driveclub VR head over to the official game page.

–> No weather effects (not confirmed)
–> New trophies, new accolades, etc.
–> new tracks, new tour, new trophies, new stats, new accolades.
* Driveclub VR does not take the full power of the PS4 Pro, but there will be a few more visual details enabled.
* Driveclub VR is exclusively for PSVR – you need the headset to play it.
* All controllers that are supported on Driveclub will be supported by Driveclub VR

definitely gonna pick it up for 20€ :)

“a physical Blu-Ray release” – where exactly? Amazon, ShopTo, and every other retailer I’ve checked do not have the game for sale on disc. It seems that only the US will be getting it on disc?

3.1

its available on disc on the german amazon page

Hell yeah, half price for season pass owners. I am extremely happy about that!

£15.99 for me! Pre-Ordered. Roll on the 13th.

Can you also give us a Ps4 Pro patch for Driveclub. If you’re listenning to fan feedback then you must have seen the tweets on twitter from fans asking for a Ps4 Pro patch. Please give us the dedicated Driveclub fans a Ps4 pro patch.

Driveclub VR does not take the full power of the PS4 Pro, but there will be a few more visual details enabled.

When we get the new drive club vr maps on non vr drive club game?

In a future update

“for anyone who bought the Driveclub Season Pass before 00:00 AM BST on Thursday 29th September”

Is that midnight tonight, or was that this morning? Really should NEVER use 00:00 as it’s always debatable as to which day it falls upon, Army always used 23:59 or 00:01 to avoid confusion as to which day the time falls upon (as well as telling you that you have two minutes each day that belongs to you, the rest belongs to your commanding officer).

9.1

wednesday 23:59, so its already over

9.2

I was having that thought myself too and I’m in two minds about it. It sounds like it makes sense to have ended at 11.59pm last night (on Wednesday). But at the same time it also sounds like it could be saying before 00:00am on Thursday which means 11.59pm is the end before 00:00am (tomorrow) kicks in which it will be no longer available so we have today as a heads up to buy or miss out.

If 11:59pm last night is really the end for it, you’d think they would give us a heads up on this yesterday rather than announce it after it has aleady ended

9.3

its for the people who supported them in the past, not the ones who just get the season pass to get the vr version cheaper :P

I just bought the season pass, have I been mugged off?

Yes :-(

10.2

if you bought it today, youre out of luck

You can actually help us all, if you did only buy the season pass today, by checking if you can buy the upgrade offer.

Go here and see if you’re eligible:

Very very cool.

This was a day one for me regardless, but now means i can get something else as well without even thinking about it.

Well I was sooo happy after I tried Driveclub VR in Sony VR event and I was curious how much better it will be on PS4 Pro, but I am shocked that Paul Rustchynsky announced on twitter that SONY IS NOT PLANNING to release PS4 Pro patch !!!! This is not right Sony, this game should provide the best experience on PS4 Pro, what is the purpose of it then…

I own the full game but never bought any content or the pass for it but I don’t get the upgrade option? Pants

It does state that you’re only eligible if you bought the season pass, it’s not owning the game itself.

After everything this games been through it’s the least they could have done.

13.3

@Harrisown
The game had a rough few months just after launch but by the time the weather patch had come out DriveClub was firing on all cylinders.
They already ‘made it up’ to us in the first game with free content and given how the season pass was already great value I think they’ve decided to reward the more dedicated players.

Hello :)

You should have given the VR upgrade option as a Season Pass offer before locking it out.

Could have had more sales that way. Bad move.

Not only do they not get more SP sales, but they just succeeded in annoying all non-SP potential customers.

Very stupid.

15.2

its for the people who supported them in the past, not the ones who just get the season pass to get the vr version cheaper

All of their customers should be eligible. Very shortsighted behaviour and they will lose sales.

This entire post is VERY misleading, if the offer expired at 11.59 on Wednesday 28th, then you have just falsely advertised an invalid offer. If this is the case then it’s a valid complaint for the ASA to investigate.

No, you had to have bought the normal season pass before the cutoff to be eligible to buy the PSVR upgrade, if you bought it before then then the offer is available to you. We just need to clear up when the actual cutoff is/was, though, as it could actually be midnight tonight, no-one is being deprived of the offer if they bought it before the cutoff.

16.2

As mentioned above. 00:00 is always the first minute of the day. 23:59 is the last minute of the day. So this offer expired once the first minute of 29th September started.

Absolute scummy thing to do, giving people absolutely no warning about the reduced upgrade price.

Considering the general fiasco surrounding this game to start with, you’d think there would be some goodwill involved here.

Congratulations though, you just lost a sale for that behaviour.

Shocking. Absolutely shocking.

17.1

its for the people who supported them in the past, not the ones who just get the season pass to get the vr version cheaper

Everyone who bought their game “supported” them.

17.3

dont be jealous

Very confusing rule, that you only get the upgrade price, if you did own the season pass before today. And even more confusing: within the german store is no hint on the time regulation. I just read the first case, where a PS4 owner bought today a season pass to upgrade later on VR edition.

18.1

Its common for a dev to tell you about something that you must own after the time has gone – otherwise everyone will buy the PS and get the content cheap.

Ubisoft did it with AC unity – they accounts a free game for the issues they had as long as you had redeemed the SP before they announced you could get a free game

This is clearly stated in this post. Only owners of Driveclub season pass before today (writing this on 29 September 2016), before the official announcement, are entitled for the discount.

There where already various posts (at least since 17 August 2016); signaling that a discount for Driveclub season pass owners will be available or was expected. Even after the full price announcement there where more articles with that information.

18.3

It is not clearly stated on the store pages…. it’s not even mentioned… on the page where you know…. actually buy this! What good is it in a blog post when you head straight to the store from the link in the tweets!

Just tested it out, buying the season pass now at £9.99 does not let you buy the discounted driveclub VR even though the store page has no mention of the time restriction…. have tweeted playstation asking for clarification as it’s extremely misleading if you’ve only seen the store page. I understand to a degree why they have done this but it’s incredibly sneaky at the same time as as bloody typically sonys messaging is all over the place across 2 of it’s owned pages

This is clearly stated in this post. Only owners of Driveclub season pass before 29 September 2016 are entitled for the discount.

19.2

It’s isn’t stated on the store page anywhere and there’s where I went first having seen the tweet that it was heaped for season pass owners…. when it didn’t work I came here and saw the extra detail I the blog post they failed to mention on the store page, pretty crap really

Learn to read fella. He is clearly stating there is an inconsistency in Sony’s communications.

Could be fun for a while but the game was already harder than it had to be in first person, I imagine VR will only enforce that.

Its not enforced, you can play in third person, using a DS4.

(do confirm, but as i am aware you can play in third person on Driveclub VR)

20.3

I don’t mean the first person view is forced on you, I mean it was difficult to begin with and imagine it will only be more difficult in VR to play in first person. It’s a real shame because the game looks so much more dynamic and gorgeous in first person compared to the static third person view. This should’ve been a beautiful Shift kind of racer but I had to turn out playing third person all the time, even more so for bikes.

I’d still love to see this team make a comeback with a new Motorstorm :(

A paying patch for existing owners of DriveClub. That has to be a new low from Sony.

21.1

Not really.
A significant amount of work has gone into making a VR version of DC so shouldn’t that work be paid for?
It’s not like they just flipped a switch to turn it on!
If you think it’s not worth full price that’s fair enough if you wait awhile I’m sure there’ll be a sale but you shouldn’t expect it for free.

It’s not an upgrade, or patch, its a standalone game: New tracks, new tour, new trophies, new stats, new accolades; new modes; etc

I think may hours of work where done to make Driveclub VR possible.

We can all play the demo, then decide.

22

I won’t be buying anything to do with DC again terrible game I wish I could get a refund.

After getting a G29 a few months ago I decided to buy the season pass and go back to this last week. Damn it was awful. After playing F1 2016, Dirt Rally and Project Cars Driveclub’s 30fps looked awful, a full on jerk fest to the point I thought it was unplayable and deleted it. Another £6 wasted on this disaster. I won’t be wasting any more money on this.

Just a note that way we drive on Driveclub and Project Cars (as an example) is not the same. Driveclub is not a real simulator. I like the guides from TheKie25 on YouTube.

We can always try it first and then decide. The Driveclub VR demo comes with PSVR.

24

This is great £15.99 for another fully fledged VR game, why wouldn’t i jump on this.

Is DC:VR also playable without the PSVR? Ordered the headset but I’m just wondering, if I want to play this with the regular tv setup, is that possible? (does it apply to all VR games by the way?)

No, Driveclub VR is exclusively for PSVR – you need the headset to play it.

The VR exclusives, should “normally” require the head set. Other titles, with “option” for VR can be played with or without it.

As side note; at bare minimum you need only connect the headset in VR “Exclusives”, and look and play from TV (should not be “fun” with Driveclub VR; and I have not tested this)

I am still unable to even find thus on any store either digital or retail.
Does anyone have an actual working link were I can buy if preorder this game now.
Can anyone just explain why thus pericukar game gas been so hard to find to purchase, belive me I’ve watched and preordered a ton of VR stuff for my podcast….but I have never found this…still to thus day found it…..anyone? Lol

Sorry guys ignore that post I’ve found a few just, first time ever….is £35 right though…some if you on here are saying £15? How”

This needs to be multiplayer in the sense that you can have a buddie in the car with you!!!!! both on vr sets in different rooms/ houses taking it in turns to drive each other to complete the game!!!!!!!could even serve as a co pilot. im just looking massively forward to being able to take friends for a spin in my collection of super cars!!!!!

29

I can’t find anywhere to pre-order a physical copy! Not on Amazon or Game….. What’s going on? Not a good way to sell a product……

30

I have a question, when will the DriveClub players who aren’t buying the VR version going to be getting access to the 5 new urban tracks as promised by the game director a month earlier on his Twitter account??

We close the comments for posts after 30 days.
