All the PlayStation headlines that mattered from the last seven days

Just like your favourite burrito, here are all the delicious bits from a rammed week of PlayStation delights wrapped into one delectable package. Consume with relish.

The big stories this week

  1. The Playroom VR takeoverThis week PlayStation Blog hosted a five day spectacular dedicated to PlayStation VR’s multiplayer fun-fest Playroom VR. Japan Studi Asobi! gave us an exclusive behind the scenes look at its upcoming title. Be it the creation of its loveable in-game heroes, the debut of couch multiplayer VR experience (and the tomfoolery it encourages) or its innovative control schemes, we’ve got you’ve covered. The creator’s even tossed in 25 facts about The Playroom VR you can dazzle friends with this weekend.
  2. SportsBar VR is a PlayStation VR launch titleContinuing the multiplayer VR fun is SportsBarVR, which aims to cram all of your favourite Friday night bar games into one brilliantly bonkers experience. Laughs and competitive air hockey? Time to get social on 13th October.
  3. OutbreakDay 2016We’re celebrating the world ending with Naughty Dog! In The Last of Us lore, 26th September is the anniversary of the day the Cordyceps virus reached critical mass. Cue terror and panic in the fictional world, and big discounts on DLC in the real one!

This week’s other headlines…

PlayStation Plus in October

If you’re a PS4 PS Plus member, October is pretty special. Celebrate Halloween early by exploring a terrifying mansion with Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine in Resident Evil HD. Alternatively, start getting ideas for your Autobot outfit while smashing Decepticons in the combat-driven adventure Transformers: Devastation. (Extra points if you belt out some Stan Bush classics while battling.)

Why don’t you try…

This week’s suggestion: Dear Esther: Landmark Edition. Four years before it created Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, The Chinese Room set its adventurous sights on a remote Scottish island. And now thanks to its release on PS4, you can explore Rapture’s spiritual predecessor.

Tweets of the week:

Insomniac Tweet

Hey, PS Blog team: watcha playin’?

Corey: “The re-emergence of Batman – The Telltale Series has reminded me to finally venture into what many consider Telltale’s best game to date: Tales from the Borderlands. I can see why it’s so highly regarded. Slick writing, wonderful voice acting and a fun gameplay spin on the adventure formula. And I get to put a character named ‘Rhys’ into morally questionable situations. Mwhahahahahaaaa.”

Rhys: “Being resigned to the fact that I’m not tough enough for Dark Souls, I gave Lords of the Fallen a go this week and ended up really getting into it… until I realised I’m not tough enough for that either. So with tail between legs I’ve skulked off back to Destiny to see what the Rise of Iron has in store for a lowly Hunter…”

Fred: “I never got around to BioShock Infinite‘s Burial At Sea DLC first time around, so I booted up the PS4 remaster to see what I missed. Bah – turns out it’s locked until you finish the campaign! The backlog grows!”

Gillen: “I’ve been on a streak of franchise replay marathons since summer. My current run? Resident Evil. I’m actually battling through Zero at the moment, the one title in the main cannon I never finished first time round. Right now I’m puzzling how a near-death Rebecca and Billy are going to survive the penultimate Mimicry Marcus with zero herbs and minimal ammo. I’m unwilling to ghost past and haven’t the knife skills to best him in a close encounter. Game plan for the weekend: swearing repeatedly while trying not to give in to the temptation of reverting to an earlier save.”
