How PS4 Pro enhances Ratchet & Clank

Find out how Insomniac Games is using the new hardware to buff its latest release

Hey everyone. Ratchet & Clank on PS4 marked the first appearance of our long-running heroes on the console. It’s a galactic space adventure-filled with exotic planets, wild villains, and an arsenal not fit for this world.

We’re pleased to be rolling out a free software update to the game to support the additional power that PS4 Pro offers. This patch should be available on or prior to the launch date of PS4 Pro.

Ratchet and Clank

For users with a 4K TV, you’ll be able to play Ratchet & Clank at a much higher resolution, and if your TV supports it, in HDR using an HDMI 2.0 cable. PS4 Pro users with a 1080p TV will see a big increase in gameplay image quality as well.

The technique we’re using to get to those better resolutions is something we’re calling Temporal Injection. This allows us to not only hit a much higher resolution, but also to do it with jaggie-eliminating anti-aliasing as well. The extra resolution and HDR’s ability to display even more of the colorful Solana Galaxy should combine for the best image quality you’ve ever seen in a Ratchet & Clank game.

We’re really excited about the potential of the PS4 Pro and what it means for our games. From Ratchet & Clank to our upcoming game with Marvel Entertainment, Spider-Man (working title), PS4 Pro gives us the power to release our best-looking games ever.

And for those with an HDR-enabled TV but still using a regular PS4 or PS4 Slim, our patch will also enable HDR for Ratchet & Clank as well.

We can’t wait for you to check out Ratchet & Clank on PS4 Pro!

Wait. “PS4 Pro users with a 1080p TV will see a big increase in gameplay image quality as well”. That’s all? Come on, guys! You were the main force behind keeping console gaming at 60fps! Ok, you went away from it, I get it. But remake of Ratchet & Clank had one particular field where it was unquestionably worse than original – 30 fps. Why don’t you fix that now than you have the chance? Make new Ratchet & Clank the ultimate one (albeit with less tits and levels)!

I’m really glad that this game is getting Pro support. Kinda wish they put in a 60fps option though

The game already looked stunning, I doubt anyone played this game and thought hmm this needs to be in a higher resolution. Surely 60hz would have been the far better option.

“n HDR using an HDMI 2.0 cable” You mean 2.0a, right?

THIS game is getting HDR support??? Never mind Days Gone or The Last of Us Remastered, THIS should have been at the PS4 Pro event. Even though Uncharted 4 is incredible looking, I still think that Ratchet and Clank is the most stunning looking console game this generation. And now it is going to look even better!!!

Thanks guys, I have yet to go back and play this after clearing it to do the second playthrough and I was going to wait for my Pro first, just in case yous enhanced it. I’m very surprised the team did this too.
I remember when Trophies came to PS3, 6 months after Tools of Destruction came out, and yous were very adamant that you have moved on from development of that game and it wasn’t going to get trophies in an update. So I thought you would have stuck to that development rule and moved on from Ratchet and Clank 2016 by now. Thanks goodness that isn’t the case. :)

So even the regular ps4 will show it in HDR then? Why do people write like this.

Sorry guys, lack of 60fps was already a bummer on the original release, but a ps4 pro patch for a r&c game without 60fps support is just very disappointing.
