You can now watch 360° YouTube videos on PlayStation VR

Hours of virtual reality content already available to watch

Ever wondered what it’d be like to step inside a midnight safari or to paraglide over Brazil’s Iguazu falls? Well, with PS VR and YouTube, it’s easier than you might think.

Back in October, when we first launched PlayStation VR, our mission was to deliver cutting-edge virtual reality experiences to PS4 players right across the globe. Following a hugely successful launch and masses of positive feedback from players everywhere, we’re continuing to build on what we started.

Since launch, users have been able to watch their favourite streaming and catch-up services using PS VR to create a virtual “big-screen” right in front of their eyes. Now users can go a step further by experiencing YouTube’s amazing range of 360 videos via PS VR.

The latest update – released today – adds support for YouTube’s rapidly expanding library of virtual reality videos, allowing PS4 and PS VR users to once again step beyond the screen and explore detailed 360° worlds as though they were standing right there.

Download the update today and recommend us your favourite videos in the comments below.

Nice update but I’m still waiting for The Walk.

What about 3d 360° videos?

I know it’s early days but how come no 3D?
360° looks flat and rubbish after playing games with real depth to the picture.
Not complaining just wondering if it’s gonna happen eventually or will all videos be 360° 2D?

The sub-title of this article is “Hours of Virtual reality content”

To me Virtual Realty is more than just flat 360° video You need the full depth of 3D video to go with it. Also, 3D sound to seal the deal.

But like I say, I’ll take it. It’s only just come out and I’m not gonna be too picky about free content. I just want to know more is possible in the future on PS-VR?

My phone can do 360 degree 3D VR so why can’t the PS4?
It’s SO much better in 3D.

Okay, thanks for that. I’ve tried some 3D 360 videos on YouTube now. Shame the definition is so poor! And only a slim selection of movies are compatible.

PSVR should support 3D in the media player, e.g. 3D SBS. There are many videos available e.g. for Oculus and Vive that are really high definition with full, clear 3D but currently PSVR can’t play them properly. My Android phone (by Sony) plays then brilliantly.

So to clarify, PSVR needs a decent 3D VR movie player, like the media player, with configurable options like 3D SBS, field of view etc. It’s plenty powerful enough. These web-based/streaming players aren’t up to scratch yet. I’d rather play from USB hard drive.

But can you actually buy a PSVR anywhere??? Nope! When will the stock be refreshed??

You should have pre-ordered. They’re still being distributed in phases.

You tube has stopped working on my PS4 pro, it gets to the home screen and just stops. No button inputs work but I can still press home to exit.

now google street view!
