Classic open-world crime remake Yakuza Kiwami gets a PS4 release date

The PS2 classic gets an overhaul and limited edition steelbook

The meaning of the Japanese word “Kiwami” is “extreme,” and I’d say it’s going to be a pretty extreme year for fans of Sega’s Yakuza games! I’m Scott Strichart, the localisation producer for the series, and today we dropped some pretty rad news about Yakuza Kiwami, the upcoming PS4 remake that takes you back to where Yakuza all began in a from-scratch overhaul of the PS2 classic.

As we promised when we announced the game at PlayStation Experience last year, Yakuza Kiwami is coming to Europe on the 29th August, 2017! And it’s going to be a pretty sweet deal. Yakuza 0, which we launched for PS4 earlier this year, was only a success because you — the fans — believed in it, so we’re really going all out for Kiwami as our way to say thank you.

You can grab Kiwami for £29.99/€34.99 and all European pre-orders/launch copies will include a special steelbook while supplies last.

Yakuza Kiwami

In addition to that, today we launched the Yakuza Experience website, an all-new Yakuza portal where you can dive deeper into the world of Yakuza through an interactive timeline and character map to help you keep all these hard-looking dudes and what families they’re from straight. Right now you can check out everything leading up to 1995, where Yakuza Kiwami starts!

The Yakuza Experience site also features the first issue of a 10-issue digital comic, starting with some of the key events of Yakuza 0 and taking you along for the ride all the way up to Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, coming to PS4 early next year. If you’ve just joined the family for Yakuza 0 or maybe Yakuza Kiwami is where you’ll start, these comics will help bridge the gap between Kiwami and Yakuza 6 with all the epic fights and intense drama the series is known for.

And for our long-time fans? Stay tuned for some never-before-seen content and alternate perspectives on some of the previous games’ stories that’ll keep you hooked, too.

Want to learn more about Yakuza Kiwami? Check out the all-new official website, and get ready for one of the best remakes of a modern classic to hit PS4! And watch out for Majima. I hear he’s everywhere.

will there be a way to buy this without the steelbook case? i don’t want to have to wait a month for a reprint like i am with pesona 5

This has made my week, day one purchase! Yakuza 0 was my first proper introduction to the brilliance of the series and i can safely say it’s going to be my game of the year. Amazing story, brutal combat, plot twists that shock, there’s so much to do and the game can be intense one minute and then silly the next. Really looking forward to Yakuza 6!

29,99$ for US but £29.99/€34.99 in Europe? Not cool Sega.

That’s a pretty awesome Steelcase! Thank you for bringing all this Yakuza goodness over! Any chance for Yakuza Ishin to get localized? Probably a really long stretch but worth a shot :p

Only played 3,4 and the zombie spin off. Hopefully this means i can fully get to know the story and characters this time :D

For the love of cheesecake you better make it available. I want it and I’ll have no qualms “organizing” fights to get one XD

zavvi dot com has this at a good price already with free delivery to Sweden!

Please do this with Legacy of Kain series^^

Still sad that there’s no PS3 version in English since it exists in Japan but it was to be expected after Yakuza 0 not having a PS3 version as well.
Thank you though for finally acknowledging the European fanbase and giving us a nicer edition :)

can’t wait!

Looking forward to this and Yakuza 6 but I’ll be waiting for the regular non-steelbook edition. Hopefully Yakuza 2 Kiwami will happen at some point as well, it’s the only game in the series I haven’t played yet.

Awesome, I still haven’t completed zero, yet. I haven’t played it in a while, but I’ll get back to it.
