Today’s No Man’s Sky Atlas Rises update brings new story, low altitude flight, joint exploration and much more

Watch the video overview of what’s coming today for PS4’s sci-fi adventure

Hello! It’s been a year since No Man’s Sky first released, and it’s been an exciting, intense and emotional time for us at Hello Games. We have been quiet, but we have been listening intently.

We’ve spent that year working hard on updates. Update 1.3, releasing today, is our biggest to date and will be available for free to all No Man’s Sky players.

Watch the trailer and read on to learn a bit more about what you can expect to discover in the latest update, a lot has changed in a year!

Atlas Rises

Featuring a new central storyline players can discover more about the universe and themselves, as well as a wide array of new and improved features. Whether you’re a veteran interloper or completely new to the No Man’s Sky universe, there has never been a better time to start your journey.

Full patch notes are available here.

No Man's Sky

Here’s a quick run down of the main features:

  • 30 hours of branching story and deeper lore
  • Procedurally generated guild missions
  • Much deeper interstellar trading
  • Star Systems have varying wealth, conflict and economies
  • Overhauled Space combat controls, weapons and AI
  • Portals stargates enable quick travel
  • Terrain manipulation for more complex bases
  • New farming and mining interactions bring increased depth
  • Increased biome variety and Rare exotic biomes

Our story gives a new context, quest system and branching narrative to No Man’s Sky. In the Atlas Rises story, the fabric of existence is starting to falter. A mysterious new interdimensional race have appeared, and ancient portals have begun to open.

No Man's Sky

Glitches in the simulation, visualised by strange floating orbs, allow players to see and communicate with up to 16 other travellers and explore the universe together. While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky.

We hope you enjoy this and what follows – look forward to seeing you out there!

No Man's Sky

This week marks the one year anniversary of No Man’s Sky and on behalf of myself, and the team at Hello Games I just want to say – Thank you for this year. Thank you for playing, providing feedback, discovering, sharing and so much more…

Our journey continues.

Congrats guys! Great update. If only the game had been delayed to have this at launch – this is what the game should have started with.

But regardless – good work

Who knows, maybe the difficult launch and backlash actually helped create this update?

I’m really excited to get home and play this!

Awesome game. Completely underrated. But wait one cotton picking moment…. coop!?!???11?1?1?1!!1!1? Finally! Thank you guys. Keep working hard on what you believe. Step over the haters.

Sounds good. I got the game while cheap and I had no real expectations other than a relaxing game with pretty scenery and that’s what i got and was happy with it. These updates look great though. :)

All good things….

Sounds like it will be brilliant, cannot wait for the end of the day so i can get home and try it out.

Big update for a small team! It’s practically a new game. Sounds great, been playing a lot recently and was just starting to get my head around things and what I was working towards. Looks like that will change a bit now – for the greater good.

Thanks for continuing to support the game.

PSVR support??

WOW! This really feels like a great update…gonna jump back into the game :D

I had to do it now. Game is bought and downloading.

I must respect that the team behind this game didn’t abandon it after all the fuss with broken promises etc. They may have put themselves there, but still..

Looking forward to trying it :-)

Despite all the negativity surrounding this game at launch, I’m also considering buying it now at £9.99. For 30hrs + of gameplay, its a price point worth risking.

30 hours refers to just story discovery content. Actually getting to the centre of the Galaxy can take months.

@MaxDiehard I see So there’s going to be lots more in store. Did you actually get to the centre of the Galaxy?

For me, it’s a “little” toooo late…they did what they did, to much shady stuff around NMS, i’ve lost any interest for this game almost year ago. If only they delayed the game for a year or two, finish everything they planed.. but no, it was way important to have 18 guintbilimilithrilions planets…..

Such a shame….

delay for a year or two? Not sure if that’s how business works. Had to get the game out there bringing in some cash or bills don’t get paid.

People have no one to blame but themselves. They hyped it up for themselves and listed to the biased media that blows things out of proportion as usual.

I got exactly what I expected from the game at launch, and was more than happy with it, close to infinite exploration and survival.

I’ll have to re-install the game and try out this update, been waiting for some sort of multiplayer and terraforming.

Please add new trophies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now!! I’m interested with this update, co-op here I come! Purchasing off store now, great update

This is such a good update in many ways and I have enjoyed the game since it’s release. One of my niggles was that lack of any viable trading due to the max stock of all vendors being 50 units of stock of each product (which was only 1 tenth of one cargo slot on a spaceship)- thankfully this update has changed this which means I can now trade over a thousand units at a time and , with the updates to the galaxy map, finally the trade aspect of the game makes sense.
