5 things you need to know before starting Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds, out tomorrow

Details on how to access the new region, recommended Level, quest-giver locations and more for the new expansion

We’re thrilled to announce that Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds is out 7th November on PlayStation Store! This expansion for Horizon Zero Dawn adds a companion story to Aloy’s adventure, leading her deep into the icy borderlands of the Banuk tribe. To celebrate the launch, we’ve prepared an exciting new trailer that shows the dangers Aloy will be facing.

Naturally, we can’t wait for you to dive into the new expansion content — and since you’re probably as eager as we are, we’ve collected a few handy tips to put you on the right track:

1. Load your latest save

You don’t need to start a brand-new game just to access Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. The expansion content is available regardless of whether you’re on your very first playthrough or on your latest New Game+.

2. Check your level

We tuned Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds for players with an experience level of 30 or higher. While it’s possible to access the expansion content if your level is below this threshold, you may find that Aloy’s lack of skills and/or equipment becomes too great a challenge. If that’s the case, try completing a few quests in the base game until you’ve sufficiently leveled up.

3. Complete the quest “A Seeker at the Gates”

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds adds a whole new region known as The Cut, which becomes accessible after you’ve completed the quest A Seeker at the Gates. If you’re at level 30 you most likely already completed this quest, but if you’re not sure you can check its completion status in the Quests menu.

4. Find a quest-giver

To receive directions to the new region known as The Cut, speak with one of the three quest-givers added to the base game region. These quest-givers appear with a blue quest start marker over their head. They’re located in the following areas:

  • Rhavid, a Carja nobleman with information and speculation about the Banuk borderlands, can be found outside Meridian.
  • Ohtur, who knows how to get to The Cut, can be found inside the Carja border fort known as Daytower.
  • Yariki, a Banuk woman with a dire warning about the dangers found in the borderlands, can be found north of the Grave Hoard.

5. Survive the Frozen Wilds

Between the inhospitable environment and the dangerous new machines, Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds offers a greater challenge than the base game — so make sure you bring the right skills, outfits, and weapons.

Above all, we hope you have as much fun diving back into the world of Aloy as we did creating this expansion! Let us know what you think in the comments.

Looking forward to play this next year when it’s half price or less. Those 10% vs the American 25% made my decision.

I think they’ve hit the sweet spot with the price tag. Do you seriously expect 15 hours long dlc for AAA title to cost less? Crazy.

Is it crazy to ask for the same discount for pre-ordering as US gamers?

Not to me… getting pretty sick of Sony treating Europe in such a crappy manner.

It’s simply much more expensive to publish in Europe… localisation for each country, marketing etc. Don’t expect US prices in EU.

“Between the inhospitable environment and the dangerous new machines, Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds offers a greater challenge than the base game — so make sure you bring the right skills, outfits, and weapons.”

This is exactly what I wanted to hear. Can’t wait! And I support developers who bother to put some actual challenge in their games and I support proper expansions like these for DLC so I’m paying full price for this for sure.

Do you need the original game disc? There seems to be some confusion over this. ShopTo list the game in both physical copy and digital download form, but they state if you buy the retail version you need the original game disc to access it. Can you clear this up?

Hey, you’ll need a copy of Horizon Zero Dawn (either digital or physical) to play The Frozen Wilds.

I have the physical disc and bought the expansion, downloaded it, yet when I try to start it it says cannot find game, why is this?

To anybody feeling like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day or thinking the Matrix is glitching…all is well. While this may be the 4th HZD DLC article within five days, they all have different headlines:

Maybe you can post one more tomorrow “Dodging enemies in HZD: now more than ever in new DLC out today” and another one later this week “Quests that make you follow footprints, ‘search’ areas for clues and return to the quest giver “

Its almost like they’re advertising their game or something. weird.

I think ‘shoving it down our throat’ is the term you were looking for.

Can anyone help? I preordered the DLC months ago and my PS4 automatically downloaded it a few days ago so it would be ready for the 7th.

It’s now the 9th and it still won’t let me start the DLC. Says something about how it can’t start until release day (can’t remember the exact words but it’s along those lines).

Release day was two days ago.

I emailed PlayStation Support two days ago but am yet to receive a reply.

Can anyone help?

Hey, have you received a reply yet via email? If not, I’d recommend getting in touch via Twitter if you’re a user – the help account is @AskPS_UK

Sorry we can’t offer more help via blog, but this kind of question requires looking into your account which can only be done by the support team.

Thanks, I’ll try the Twitter account. Still heard nothing from support.

I pre ordered this, it installed fine to the PS4 but, there’s no exclusive avatar for the pre order? Does anyone know when this is available?, or was there a prob with download? Thanks

Your profile shows that you’re in the US so in this case, I’d recommend reaching out to your local Support Team:

The game and DLC is worth the price. Just finished playing DLC. Amazing experience, beautiful environments, sound, very challenging new machines. Is there a way to replay Frozen Wilds from the beginning or you have to restart the entire game?

We close the comments for posts after 30 days.
