MediEvil returning to PS4 in 2018

Coming to a skelevision near you, newly resurrected for PS4

That’s another PlayStation Experience in the books! And we’ve been holding onto some especially exciting news. Hot on the heels of this year’s smash hit Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, we’re making another PlayStation fan dream come true: a proper, PS4-grade resurrection of the original MediEvil just in time for the game’s 20th anniversary.

If you’re not familiar with the MediEvil series, it’s a colourful action-adventure game originally released in 1998 for the original PlayStation system. As the resurrected Sir Daniel Fortesque, players defend Gallowmere from the evil forces of Zarok, a sorcerer with the power to control the dead.

The game is noteworthy for its unique horror-comedy tone and its early contributions to the world of 3D gaming. It’s still a fan favourite, and I’m proud we can resurrect Sir Daniel once again.

Have a happy and healthy holidays — see you in 2018!

Well that’s another game I wanted that suddenly appears.

It’s awesome to see my childhood hero is back :)

Glad to see more of the classic platformers coming back. Now if we could get some new ones.

Awwwww just had a flashback on my PS1 play days. Good times, wonderful years. Fantastic news, I’ll be getting it from day 1!

It’s the PSP version remastered if anyone was wondering. The voices and the zombie right at the end of the trailer are straight from the PSP game

I honestly don’t think that it is. Look at the wording used:

“we’re making another PlayStation fan dream come true: a proper, PS4-grade resurrection of the original MediEvil just in time for the game’s 20th anniversary”

I think they just used assets from Resurrection for this teaser because the game isn’t far enough along in development to show anything from it yet. That’s my hope, anyway.

Edit: Also, according to this post, a piece of fan art was used in the teaser, which backs up the suggestion that the game has not been developed to the point of being able to be shown off. They’re just using placeholder stuff, that’s why we saw Resurrection assets:

No. It is the remaster of the original Medievil. Read the post again or read it before commenting. Here:

ITS THE PS1 1ST MEDIEVIL GETTING REMADE !!

Never played the originals but loved the PSP version. I never played the second game so I hope this is a collection of both games, or that the second games comes at a later date.

Hmm, still would have preferred a Spyro G. Nasty Trilogy though. Hopefully the 2nd game gets made along side this one. Who is the team though? If they do a great job with it, then maybe get them to do a remake of the orignal Ape Escape too. :)

Hello, Sir Daniel Fortesque and welcome back from the dead

Now if we could get a Socom reboot I’d be extremely over the moon. Socom was Sony’s main shooter IP back in the days.

How this series has not been rebooted I’ll never know.. whilst other awful IP’s have been restored… C’mon Sony the world needs a tactical 3rd person shooter.

The controls of any Socom other than the 4th were absolutely horrendous. If they fixed that, I’d be game.

One of my favorite games on ps1. Been waiting for this for so long. Hopefully this means we’ll get to see an actual sequel some day too. But if one had to be remastered, I’m glad it’s the first one, which was the best by far.

Now resurrect Soul Reaver, Syphon Filter, Onimusha and Technu too, and the others I forgot :p

There’s a possibility that the recent reveal From Software (who own the rights to the series) did might be a Tenchu game. As the trailer had Japanese music, old calligraphy and mentioned “shadows”. Though who knows (other than them).

It will be the ps1 1st medievil remake not the psp version anyway the psp version was a bad remake of original

Medievil: Resurrection 2018

As much as I would like to think that this will be like the Crash Bandicoot: Insane Trilogy, it won’t be that. There is no evidence providing that this will be faithful to the original design. I’ve been lying to myself since I’ve heard the announcement that it could be anything remotely that awesome. I’ll try to keep my reasoning to the point and not ramble until I get the facts out.

• The logo in the thumbnail is not the original, it is from Resurrection. When booting the psp game this is the first thing that you see, and is the icon from the e-shop. the original logos were not pointed on the “M” and “L”.

• 1st audio clip: “Well, well, well. He’s back.” Psp audio from the green ugly gargoyle, not the cool looking psx ones.

• 1st image flash: This is an outline of the psp box art.

• 2nd audio clip: I don’t even want to type it. Al-Zalam’s audio was the most disturbing when I first watched the video. He was the antithesis to the mood and witty writing of...

• 2nd image flash: Dan’s silhouette. It’s not clear, but his pauldrons appear to be the more prominent design in the psp version.

• 3rd audio clip: Death’s audio from the psp version.

• 4th audio clip: Can’t remember, but the delivery is consistent with the psp version.

• 5th audio clip: Again, not sure but delivery is like the psp version.

• Finally, the video clip at the end shows a render from the zombie design of Resurrection.

• The title of this article: “Coming to a skelevision near you, newly RESURRECTED for PS4”

• “It’s still a fan favourite, and I’m proud we can resurrect Sir Daniel once again.”

At no point is there a hint of the original jumping out at me. Don’t get hopeful until more information is released. At this point DO NOT get your hopes up for a remaster of the original two psx versions. The first MediEvil is a masterpiece. It holds a special place in my heart as my favorite game of all time, and will always be that for me. Despite being an inferior version in nearly every way, (level design, attacks and animation feeling weak, horrible jock strap jokes, smashing some levels from 2 in, the list goes on…) I will still pre-order the 4k remaster even if it will be just Resurrection. I’ll play it through, break out my psx, and then play the original, and try to forget about what the remaster could have been. Please prove me wrong.
