Acclaimed sandbox RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 is coming to PS4 in August

Larian Studios promises “much-wanted tweaks and additions” to its PC smash hit

Hello everybody! My name is Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios. In 2017, we released a PC game called Divinity: Original Sin 2, a sandbox RPG with the singular goal of bringing interactivity and exploration to new (sometimes ridiculous) heights.

Since that release, we’ve been inundated by letters and comments asking us to bring Divinity: Original Sin 2 to the PlayStation 4. We heard those requests loud and clear, and we’re very excited that it’s finally happening.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

If you haven’t heard of Divinity: Original Sin 2, it’s a massive RPG in which you control a party of one to four, chosen from six origin characters with their own personal agendas and histories, or a custom avatar you can build from the ground up. You can play alone or with friends, in split screen couch co-op or online.

The game world consists of a fantastic realm built to react to players’ creativity. Combat rewards experimentation, and elemental spells can be layered for max impact. You can cast rain on burning allies, teleport them to safety, and electrify the battlefield to stop enemies in their tracks. If an opponent is too close, you can lash them with temporary tentacles, summon a demon to fight for you, and fly away on your own pair of wings.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

While DOS 2 was highly reviewed (it’s Metacritic’s highest scoring PC game of 2017), we knew we still had room for improvement, and bringing the game to PS4 was the perfect opportunity to introduce a massive number of much-wanted tweaks and additions.

We’ll be talking more about the specifics of those changes in coming posts but suffice it to say we’ve been hard at work bringing the entire experience to a new level.

Thanks for reading!

Awesome. Completed the original on PS4, played around 80 hours. It’s one of the best games on the system. Definitely getting this

Loving this. Hopefully as much as the first game. Got it for both Xbox and Ps.

The second is sooo much better in every way

Can’t wait.Loved first one.

I love that we’re able to play such great games normally intended for PC on our console too, the first divinity was a blast despite the use of a controller, can’t wait to enjoy the sequel too!

Does couch coop extend to online too? I understand it’s 4 players online but could 2 of them be from one console?

“Since that release, we’ve been inundated by letters and comments”

You still get people writing letters?

Incredible game. Best RPG since Fallout 2!

Massively excited about this. OrigSin 1 was a big favourite of mine on its PS4 debut and totally absorbing. I must’ve spent 20 hours soaking up all the quests in Cyseal alone. Also remember the game cheerfully handing my hiney to me on more occasions to count – takes no prisoners!

Been hoping we’d get a similarly spruced up sequel from Larian and I’m really excited they’ve made it happen. If you get the chance to couch co-op this with anyone, do it – it’s a fierce test of friendship and, if it’s anything like my OrigSin 1 co-op play, a memorable few months of play indeed!

We close the comments for posts after 30 days.
