Rhythm action arcade classic Taiko No Tatsujin brings its drum beats to PS4 2nd November

Drum to an eclectic setlist including Disney’s Frozen, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Tekken, Ridge Racer and IdolM@ster

It is with great pleasure, joy and honour that we’re announcing that Taiko No Tatsujin is coming to PlayStation 4 2nd November! We’re very much huge fans of the series at Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe and delighted to finally bring it to our part of the world.

What is Taiko No Tatsujin, you say?

It’s a Japanese series of rhythm games where you play to the beat of your own drum and challenge your friends to prove who has the best Taiko skills. Enjoy beloved characters on your journey to become a legendary taiko drummer!

Featuring songs from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Disney including Frozen and Zootopia, Kemono Friends, Osomatsu San, Hatsune Miku and even Touhou Project, we haven’t forgotten to include some of our own series as well like Tekken, Tales of Berseria, Ridge Racer and IdolM@ster! My personal favourite song to play is Zenzenzense from the movie Your name!

TITLE TITLETITLE

Do you have a significant other who’s not really into Japanese music? The classical song category is the perfect gateway to get them hooked on Taiko.

With the likes of Rossini, Offenback and Carmen, these familiar tracks are great to get accustomed to the game’s mechanics and presentation. Afterwards, get them set up playing Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen and sit back in delight as they experience that crazy song!

The team back in Japan is as excited as us, so without further ado, please read a couple of messages from Ueda-san the producer and Sasoaka-san from the development team.

A message from producer Ayano Ueda

Hello everyone, I am the producer for the PS4 version of “Taiko No Tatsujin”, Ayano Ueda.

Taiko No Tatsujin was released in 2001 in Japan as an arcade game. This is the first time that we’re releasing the series in Europe. On PS4, you will be able to battle online with ghost data of players all over the world.

There are also Japanese popular anime songs such as Dragon Ball, One Piece and Attack on Titan, so it would be great if you also enjoy playing those songs as well! Please look forward to the release of the game!

A message from the dev team

Hello, this is Takehito Sasaoka from the development team of Taiko No Tatsujin. It has been 18 years after Taiko No Tatsujin showed up in arcades in Japan for the first time. Taiko No Tatsujin was born with the concept of “Anyone can easily enjoy playing Taiko with rhythm of music”. After 18 years later, I wish that everyone in the world enjoy this series as one of the representing Japanese games. Please enjoy and play the game with the KAWAII”characters including DON chan!

We can’t wait for you to get your hands on it, and absolutely delighted to finally release Taiko No Tatsujin digitally in Europe. See you this November on PlayStation 4.

THANK YOU for finally bringing them over to the west for PS4! ♥ Can’t express how happy I am to finally see it happen. Great to see you guys keep taking risks with the more niche titles! (Just like with Tokyo Ghoul Re)

And guessing by the message by Ayano Ueda we are even getting the anime songs. Does that mean all of them, or are some of them cut-out due to license? (I know there’s a lot, so just curious, not complaining since we seem to be getting Idolm@ster songs which is good enough for me! :P)

Also, will there be a bundle available that comes with the drum for the game?

How much will it cost with the drum?

Yakuza 5!

Any news for the drum controller here?

Really? Only digital? Seriously? We’re still doing this kind of thing? I’m an huge taiko fan since the PS2 era, and now that it finally hits the west again, we get it like this. Man, not like this…

I was so excited…until I saw that it was getting a digital-only release in Europe. It is not that I have a problem with buying games digitally, but I was looking to get the game with the taiko controller often bundled with home console versions of Taiko no Tatsujin. For now, I will pass. I am praying that the taiko controller will come out in some form in Europe, whether that be on the shelf with or without game or through Bandai Namco’s website.

What the heck…literally the worst game to go Digital only with, this has to be played with the Drum controller, surely a western bundle would have been amazing…really disappointing, now because there’s no bundle with the controller, and it’s just digital it’ll get underwhelming sales and you’ll think that no one cares…

It doesn’t have to be played with the drum controller, you can play it with a normal DS4.

Plus also as it’s a pretty niche title, they probably wont convince a bunch of retailers to stock a great deal of space filling drum kits. So digital only is the cheapest way (and the few people that would buy one could still import the controller).

The taiko game that’s coming for switch is getting a physical release but it’s not getting the drum either, so I think it doesn’t matter whether it comes with or without the drum. Bandai namco localizes garbage games like Nanatsu no Taizai, giving them a physical release and getting reaaaally low sales… So why not trying doing the same with such a popular weeb game I ask?

great!

Taiko! Taiko! Taiko!

After years of playing importing these games (sometimes with translation patches) I’m so glad they’re finally getting another English release! Here’s hoping to many more!!
