Here are the visual overhauls you’ll enjoy in upcoming JPRG remaster Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition

How tr-Ace is updating the PS3 original's in-game textures and cinematics

Resonance of Fate, originally released in 2010, has been remastered to a 4K/HD Edition. You can now immerse yourself in stunningly remastered graphics while traversing this devastated earth and engaging in acrobatic gun battles.

With the 4K resolution, you’ll be able to better experience how the fate of the world has changed, a theme of humanity that may be at their twilight. The acclaimed battle system that lets you take control of layered strategies with dynamic movement. All this while listening to the fantastic score created by Sakuraba and Kohei Tanaka.

This was a challenging project for us since not only did we remaster it as an HD version, but we fully committed to taking it to 4K resolution. In order to make the pre-rendered movies 4K, we had to utilize ‘deep learning’ with our proprietary technology in order to up-rez. We also strove to maintain 60 frames per second at 4K resolution.

We took special care with the textures to improve their quality. Take a look at the hair (in the below screenshot) carefully to get a sense of this. Not only did we make Leane’s better, but check out Vashyron’s silky locks as well. We also all really enjoyed being able to see the expressions on the characters as they are traversing the environment.

While working on the remaster, it really brought back how atmospheric the original game was, so we really made an effort to retain that by showing how the passage of time affects the backgrounds, fog effects, light sources and shadows, and reworking the camera angles. The stellar quality of the original movies really shine through with the improved resolutions.

We also made sure to fix some old bugs and improved the load times to make for a better game playing experience. It’s a remaster that still has over 100 hours of gameplay with a dynamic, engaging battle system that we hope you’ll enjoy. We’ve enjoyed remastering a game that allows players to have their own play style, customisation and ingenuity to get through the game.

What I am wondering is, if the PS4 regular, can do 60 fps at 1080p.

Either way, I literally cannot sleep, thinking about this game, I am so happy this is happening. (I also hope it still has JP voice track as an option like the original release)

One of my favourite games from PS3 gen. I really hope this does well and tri-ace consider making a sequel.

I hope you’ll consider putting those pre-start menu cut scenes in the game at the relevant point, the zephyr fight should’ve played when they tell that story.

OMG, this is so awesome!

I am so looking forward to seeing my favourite 2 scenes in the game in full 4K/HD: the ‘he’s good in the dark’ scene and ‘Vashyron’s Dance’. Those two scenes alone sold me on the game (and still crack me up!).

Nice one Tri-Ace. Now could you ask Tri-Crescendo to make Eternal Sonata work on Xbox One?

Really interested in this, I love JRPGs in theory but a lot of recent offerings have turned me off the genre. This one looks like it might lure me back.

Be aware of that the story in this game is pretty barebones, it’s more about enjoying the unique setting and especially the combat. For example, one story chapter is about fetching a bottle of wine, which is, no matter how you twitch and turn it, pretty lacking storywise.

I’m looking forward to diving back into this. First time I played it was on an old CRT TV, wasn’t even in HD, so revisiting it in 4k is going to be excellent.

One question though – when announced, it was stated that PS4 digital pre-orders would get a free theme and avatar. I’m presuming that this article related to the NA storefront, but what about EU? The game isn’t available for pre-order on the EU store as yet, and there’s been no mention of this.

Its not available to preorder on the NA store either to be fair, as of right now you can only preorder from the Japanese PS Store.

I had a hard time learning the combat. From what I remember the tutorials were very weak and I had to look up a video.

Did you go to the training coliseum?

Would it cost that much to release in physical format? Can’t you guys considerate? Please…?

I am not buying this on digital. If they want my money this needs a disc. I am Portuguese American by the way.

I tottaly understand! I couldn’t care less if the asked for a full price, all I want is the game physical format, hell, the could even make limited physical editions! Even indie games come out in physical format now.

I can’t pre-order it yet… Come one 😢

So many remasters or remake’s coming and it is good thing to be able to play it wheather it was part of our childhood or wheather it was something that we just missed but heard about.. Great to see more and more games from the past are coming to PS4, i’ve never heard for this game until now so i would say i have to try it once it comes out on PS4.

LOL!

That left screenshot was captured from a CRT in composite? Or have you never played on PS3 before?
