New State of Play airs on 9th May at 11.00pm BST

Tune in for a raft of new PS4 game announcements and updates

Hi all! I’m excited to share that State of Play will return for a new episode next Thursday, 9th May at 11.00pm BST/midnight CEST. It’ll be a quick show (around 10 minutes), but we’ve got some PS4 updates we couldn’t wait to share with you.

PlayStation Worldwide Studios will be showing off an extended look at the upcoming MediEvil remake, as well as a first look at a new title. And we’ll have other updates and announcements from upcoming PS4 games.

One note: Don’t expect any updates relating to our next-generation plans this time. Sorry!

You can watch live on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, as usual. As always, we’re always reading your feedback and comments, so please keep them coming! There’s lots more in store for State of Play: episode 3 will return later in the year with more news and updates from the world of PlayStation.

These seem like nice blog post announcements and not things you need to point the whole world to.

But to be fair, they wrote 11 pm BS time.

Its a great time if you want most of the world to be able to see it :)

So first time you guys mention next generation that can mean one thing only, an end of life cycle for PS4, its a shame that day has to come because what great console PS4 is.Regarding the state of play and games we might see i really hope Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding is one of the games you can’t wait to show us. With E3 not far off i think that is the month in which we might get State of Play episode with bunch of news on games we want and potentaily first info and look at what you guys have in store for us when it comes to next generation.. All an all excited times ahead

I think we will have to wait a little longer for the biggest stuff, its not far to E3 but still far enough so they have time for one more State of Play before it :)

DS is probably going to be a PS5 game with a PS4 version, kind of like how MGSV ended up. He’s notoriously slow at making games, and another unfinished or extremely short title wouldn’t really benefit anyone.

Ghost of Tsushima is likely Sony’s next big title, buuut they might be a little uneasy after a similar game (open world “stealth”/action) didn’t get the best reception (Day’s Gone). So might want to leave a bit of a gap to avoid comparison. That too might end up as a PS5 launch game.

They do need some launch period titles for the PS5, the PS4 basically launched with just Resogun, an AC and a weird Killzone.

Just a reminder for everyone, don’t expect anything too big

Of course not, those announcements will be made closer to E3 :)

i don’t see the point of a 10 min livestream but ok

5.1

i don’t see the point in two-hour events where nothing happens

The weirdest thing is how they’re going to have an “extended look” at Medievil in a 10 minute stream…

Exactly my thoughts, just the Medievil extended trailer will take up 3 minutes, so they are showing 3/4 trailers?

I wish they could make these longer

This is Sony’s E3 show. Last year they announced a bonus PS+ game during their E3 show. So maybe we’ll get another surprise bonus game this year. That’s probably why they only announced Edith Finch and Overcooked. Metal Gear Survive will be your bonus game. yippee ki yay…

Sony have managed to give people 90% of all walking simulators released on the PS4 via Plus.

So, maybe they’ll reintroduce the instant game collection containing the other 10%??

This State of Play stream is obviously a prelude to E3 2019. Showcasing a lesser game such as the Medievil Remake at this point in time makes sense. But I expect the big guns (The Last of Us part 2 and/or Ghost of Tsushima and/or Death Stranding) to be fired on the next State of Play stream during the E3 2019 week or so.

Same here, mid-hype stuff this week, big stuff in the next show

They will most probably do a big one during E3

9

Ah, here we go again.

10

Maybe it’s not related, but when will the PS Now May lineup will be announced?

11

Crossing fingers for awesome VR stuff!

Why so late?

13

Watching on my phone I can’t be bothered to start my PS4 and watch on YouTube since only 10 mins showcase. So I guess PS5 will be shown on there own confidence like did with PS4 And PS4 Pro

I don’t expect a lot of big stuff anymore this gen. Things are clearly slowing down in preperation for next-gen. My most anticipated titles left are Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima and Last of Us 2. Death Stranding and new BF will probably be cross-gen, which would make for some great launch titles again. Would still love to see one or two great exclusives being announced for PS4 to keep us over until then.

16

Oh and Beyond Good and Evil 2 :p But I’m beginning to suspect that might also be a cross-gen title with how little we’ve seen of it.

Stonesthrow 08 May, 2019 @ 18:26
17

Also, will we EVER get that FF7 remake? Hopefully next-gen? :d

MiseryPrincess 08 May, 2019 @ 23:09

Last we heard, the FF VII remake is apparently being “remade” due to the negative reactions to the original trailers (which the silly director puts down to “character design” not the rehashed terrible action combat from FF XV).

Also remember it’s being headed by the Tetsuya Nomura, who is basically a talentless version of Hideo Kojima, but even slower.

It being episodic, though terrible, kind of helps, but probably not really, as the starting location is basically the biggest in the game.

Can’t wait!

A TLOU Part II release date take 10sec to be announced

21

I doubt I’ll stay up for it. Last time was just dull VR updates and little else. Plus the woman sounded super patronising and clueless of what she was talking about. I found it a really poor experience, and a let down

22

Yes it looks like they’ll reintroduce the FF VII remake. Can’t really say I care about that. Would have preferred a new Nier announcement from Square Enix.

Right now the only games I’m interested in are Code Vein and Biomutant.

23

Only here for VR info if any. Brought me back to gaming and i love it. Shout out to the game cats!
