Here’s your first proper look at Nioh 2’s new protagonist

Plus, look out for more news at next month’s Tokyo Game Show

Hey folks! It’s Tom from Team NINJA to give you a quick update on Nioh 2. To kick things off, I’d like to share with you the latest key visual showcasing our new protagonist.

As you may be able to detect from the visual, our central character is a half-breed. He is part human as well as possessing the extraordinary power of the Yokai. As a samurai warrior, his journey takes us through the treacherous Sengoku period of Japan. And his transformation from human to fiend will take him deep into the Dark Realm of the Yokai. I promise you that this metamorphosis will be spectacular and result in some truly intense action.

I also wanted to thank you and briefly let you know that we had a really productive alpha demo session back in May/June of this year. Over 50,000 players took part in this closed demo worldwide and nearly 18,000 participants responded to our survey afterwards!

The overwhelming majority of opinions were very positive and supportive of the demo as we received tons of comments and constructive feedback for us to analyse. And since then, we have been hard at work to process all of that data and make the necessary adjustments to create an even more exceptional experience. Thanks again to everyone who participated in the alpha demo survey. We can’t wait to share the progress with you guys!

Speaking of which, we will be showing off a brand new consumer demo at the Tokyo Game Show 2019 in September. I can’t really disclose the specifics at this point, but more details will definitely be coming down the pipe soon. So stay tuned Yokai hunters! And prepare to unleash your darkness as Nioh 2 is on the horizon!

To be honest, there’s only one transforming Japanese Samurai I want to play as. His name is Samanosuke Akechi.

Where’s Ninja Gaiden 4? An entire generation without a NG game is criminal, not even a remaster. Sad times indeed.

1) You really think people would be that welcoming after the lackluster mess that was NG3? Granted Razer’s Edge bought some decent enhancements to the core game but it wasn’t enough to put it in the realms of greatness that the original had on the Xbox

2) A remaster of what? The first game was enhanced TWICE for the OG Xbox and PS3 with crisper visuals. Also was enhanced for Xbox One/X not to mention the impressive portable Vita version which can be had on the go.

Anywho Team Ninja have a lot of goodwill to manifest if there even gonna get me have interested in a potential fourth iteration. And I didn’t even mention the damage that Yaiba: NG caused to the fanbase!

I know for a fact that plenty of people would love to see a new NG game. I was a member of the now defunct Iberian’s NG Realm community for years and there were 1000’s of players there who would welcome a fourth instalment, regardless of the disappointment we all had for 3/RE.

As for a remaster, Sigma 2 would have been a great choice. The PS4 could easily have handled the enemy counts of NG2 that the PS3 version couldn’t handle. It would have been a cheap way to gauge interest in a new game while keeping fans interested in the series.

I don’t think TN have your goodwill in mind, or mine or anybody else’s really. Also, Yaiba never happened, ok.

Another Ninja Gaiden is a bit unlikely now due to another “ninja” game by the same company being considerably more popular.

It doesn’t really make much business sense to make a similar game in a less popular older franchise.

Kind of like how Sekiro probably (unfortunately) killed the chances of From making/allowing a new Tenchu (even though they’re not remotely alike).

Though it might just be the wording of this article, I thought you said before it’s a “player created character”?

The worst thing about the original Nioh was the boring looking central character, which is why having a character maker sounded so much better.

Being able to design your own is one of the fun things about these kind of games (which was a negative point against Sekiro).

Ahh yes you are one of those fans of shrek like abominations which i met in Dark souls

Better that than yet another generic character with/without a beard like basically every game this generation.

It is a player created character, at least in the Alpha demo I played, and quite honestly the most extensive character creator I’ve ever seen in my life. I was overwhelmed by the amount of options available, although most were locked off in the demo. My character also appeared in cutscenes too which was really cool, although there was no dialogue so I am interested to see how they will implement your character into story mode.

I swear I’ve read that you make a character in this game, so we’re going with another protagonist like William again this time? That’s fine as long as build variety is still a thing.
