Seagate’s 2TB Game Drive for PS4 comes out today in Europe

Sleek, USB-powered external hard drive tailored for PS4 gaming will allow you to bring your games with you

We’re excited to announce the officially licensed Seagate Game Drive for PlayStation 4 is available from today across Europe and Russia*. This USB-powered, 2TB Game Drive gives PS4 gamers an extra boost in storage, while its small sleek design makes it easy to carry your games with you.

Seagate on PS4
Through close collaboration with PlayStation we’ve been able to fully-optimize and rigorously test the officially licensed game drive for use with PS4.

As a result, gamers can enjoy fast and seamless performance when playing games off the drive – no matter what model of PS4 they own**. Setup is quick and easy too. Your console will automatically recognise the Game Drive when initially plugged in, with the first time set-up approximately just three minutes.

Most of all, the large increase in storage capacity lets you keep instant access to your favourite titles and add-ons while still leaving room for new games. With a hefty 2TB capacity, you can free up space on your PS4 system’s internal drive and consolidate approximately 50*** games into a single location. Do note, once content is stored on the drive, the content can only be accessed by the account that transferred the content.

Seagate on PS4
The Game Drive for PS4 is available from today across the UK, France, Germany and Russia and launching in other European countries in the near future*. Head over to the Seagate website here to find out more.

*Check with your local retailer for pricing and availability

**Requires system software version 4.50 or greater.

***Based on an average storage requirement of 39GB for PS4 games published on or before June 2018.

No mention of the 1Tb or 4Tb?

No clue why this is news the 2TB and 4TB Seagate drives are sold on Amazon (.de) for ages already…

The 2TB here, for 69.99 Euro:;sr=1-5&th=1

One could also buy the 4TB one for around 112 EUro. Or just buy the Xbox One branded 4TB for 99,- Euro. Also Seagate, same drive just a different case. Works on PS4 too.

Thought that as well, till you see the pics. They are not the same drives, this one has the PS logo, top right.

If you’re gonna argue “so what, its the same drive with a different box”, i am gonna reply with “well, you quoted a link with a PS branded product which is the same on the inside”.

But this time, it has an actual logo on the product, so if someone cares about that, this is the drive to buy.

No doubt the price for this “PlayStation” branded version will be 10% or more higher than the price of an identical unbranded Seagate drive with the same specs.

Normal 2TB Seagate is 66.90 Euro at Amazon (.de), where the PS4 2TB Seagate is 69.99.

Normal 4TB Seagate is 99.58 Euro at Amazon, where the Xbox One 4TB branded one is 99.99. The PS4 branded one is 114,90 at this very moment.

No way it’s going to be lower than 500.

I hope the PS5 is bundled with a 4TB SSD😊

impossible, i think SSD will be a cache and it’s ok.

but, hey Sony.. feel free to surprise us

Won’t happen. Makes the PS5 too expensive. Sony will want to launch with a price from 399 (sweet spot for a launch, look at the Xbox 360 coming in at 399 and PS4 at 399 too) to 499 max.

They always give space, but not too much. PS4 base model has 500GB, which one runs out pretty fast having some games installed.

Most likely a 1TB SSD. I rather have more money going towards the amount of RAM put in the PS5. The storage for games one can extend by connecting an external HDD/SSD.

The PS3’s biggest drive model was also the size of the launch PS4 console’s drives.

Soo, as the biggest PS4s are 1TB, probably going to be 1TB again.

Selling the PS5 for $600 would ruin it’s chances.

It’s annoying how the hard drive R&D basically died in favour of SSDs.

Almost 4 years ago I bought an internal 2TB hard drive for the PS4, and it’s STILL the largest available size that fit inside a PS4. No progress in 4 years.

@Bobsam, thanks for proving my point by linking to a hard drive that is too tall to fit inside a PS4. Neither the PS4 or most laptops have room for 15mm hard drives, but instead use 9,5mm (or 7mm) hard drives.

MiseryPrincess 11 October, 2019 @ 01:16

It’s because the two worst companies, basically bought up all the competition and did various shady things. So the entire harddrive segment is run by two lazy companies who don’t even bother competing with each other.

I want to know more about this ‘optimize and rigorously test’ process.

MiseryPrincess 11 October, 2019 @ 01:18

Knowing the company that make it, it will probably be the following.

Send it out to a consumer, if they return it in 6 months, send it to another consumer.

If the 2nd consumer doesn’t bother returning it, it’s tested and working.

I have had a 4TB one of these for 2 years now I bought it on Amazon So how is this news

it has a PlayStation logo now

what about south africa huh????

Super-Saiyan-Si 16 October, 2019 @ 00:36

I had a 4tb seagate drive back 2 years ago…looks almost identical. Probably costs less than half too…

Super-Saiyan-Si 16 October, 2019 @ 00:40

Also why bother with old storage tech for the PS5 why not develop something like DNA data storage. Faster better and takes up a fraction of the space….get ahead of the data storage curve

Can I download a game on 1 console and access it on another console? Or is it only for that console you downloaded it on?
