‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (22nd December 2009)

It’s the last update of the year; I can’t believe it! I think we’ve made inroads into improving the store this year, and of course I have high hopes that we’ll carry this momentum on into 2010.

As with last week, we’re feeling generous, so I have some codes to give away (these codes will be for one piece of content available via the store) – there is no competition to enter, I’ll just be reading all the comments and giving codes out to those I deem the best comments made. Think of this as the blog version of ‘letters of the month’ you find in print magazines :D I’ll respond on the blog to tell you you’ve got a code, and then I’ll send it to you via a PSN message.

Onto the content this week then – Hustle Kings is here, and offers all you wannabe hustlers out there to chance to show off your skills with the cue. The classic RPG Vagrant Story also arrives, and is available to play on both PS3 and PSP.

We have our first batch of premium avatars available on the store; and these are all from the world of LittleBigPlanet, so know you can personalise your PSN ID with some of the sackboy costumes we’ve previously released.

AdhocParty is also available today, so now you can download this onto your PS3 and utilise it with the titles Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy: Dissidia and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Finally, as promised, there are a few more titles added to the Special Offers (with two more additions being made on Christmas Eve), including our favourite fair maiden, Fat Princess – all the details below.

That’s it from me this year, but I’ll be around in the comments as usual.

Have a great Christmas and New Year, and I’ll catch you in 2010!

Thanks, Micheal Kebbles for all the PSN stuff this year.

Have the best Christmas and new year and we’ll see you 2010.

Merry Christmas to all playstation fans here on the blog.

shaolinsword 22 December, 2009 @ 10:45 am   6

Any chance of getting some free avatars any time soon?

Glad to see Vagrant story is up now though

Premium Avatars!! Did i read that right?
Finally great update….

Hey Mike, you told us this update would be a bit more low key, but we have Hustle Kings and Vagrant Story to get our teeth into! Been looking forward to Hustle Kings since it was first announced and that price is too good to pass up. Some nifty offers and a Dante’s Inferno demo are also good additions. Thank you for your work on the Blog and have a great Christmas and New Year. :)

    Mike Kebby 22 December, 2009 @ 11:07 am

Well I thought by understating things last week, it would be a nice surprise this week :)

I got no Code from Kebby, but I didn’t expect one either…I’m never lucky…

But I need to tell Mister kebby something ^^
It’s a proposition that he needs te take in consideration to tell to his superiors or the right guys…

Some people say that there isn’t a community on ps3. AndI have a way to encourage this. Why not ad a calendar?
1) Where friends can add ‘gamenights and so’
2) Where developers can add special announcements of online events
3) where other people can add events…

If this can be done on the ps3, this would be a major improvement…

Now hope that Mister kebby reads this…
I don’t count on it

    Mike Kebby 22 December, 2009 @ 11:15 am

I can certainly pass your idea on to the team who deal with the service side of PSN.

Have a code sir (I’ll send it via PSN now) ;)

Nuclearfish 22 December, 2009 @ 10:46 am   10

Can’t wait for the LBp Pirates pack. :)

Any idea when the store might update Mike?

Killer_Paul 22 December, 2009 @ 10:46 am   11

how bout using the playstation eye to upload your own Avatar ??

GhostViper 22 December, 2009 @ 10:46 am   12

Wow, Avatars? Great :D Have to get me one of those :D And Water for LittleBigPlanet. Can’t wait for play that :D Really a great update for being the last of the year. :D
Thats a lot of smileys. Merry Christmas Mike :)

Wingedwraith 22 December, 2009 @ 10:47 am   13

I think Mike should get on with some work and stop playing Fallout 3. Cool where’s my code please?

N.

Hey Mike, nice update today, we have Adhoc Party! Saw on yout Twitter account that you got Demon’s Souls, have you checked out this wiki? (http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/) It’ll be your new favourite website after dying in Demon’s Souls for the umpteenth time. XD

heathengray 22 December, 2009 @ 10:47 am   15

Wow! Trine for £8 would certainly make a very merry Christmas! I’d get some of the PSP games, If I didn’t already have them.

Thanks for keeping us up to date and and answering our questions, and generally putting up with us, throughout the year! PSN keeps getting better, and every year I’m even more glad I own a PS3 and PSP.

Merry Christmas or equivalent Winter Festival, and have a Happy New Year!

AcidCrashX 22 December, 2009 @ 10:47 am   16

hey MIKEFACE! fairly big update this week too ;) you been hiding stuff from us :P

wait… avatars?…. LBP avatars?! did I read that wrong?

nice to see the Adhoc party app is now out over here, i’ll be making use of that with the discounted copy of Monster Hunter I’m picking up ;)

I see your in the 90% range with your AC2 save now Mike, still going for that platinum? ^_^

what are you going to be playing over the Christmas break? and what is your new years resolution? :D

    Mike Kebby 22 December, 2009 @ 11:09 am

I’ll be getting that ACII platinum over Xmas (hopefully) and cracking on with Demon’s Souls…that’s more than enough to tide me over.

Getting Vagrant story but still slogging through FFVII.

can’t wait for Final fight & Heavy Rain Demo. soon please!

oh and Garry Chrimbo to all EU PSN users :)

So, that is finally a nice Store update to finish the year of 2009…not much in content but the more in “Special offers”…I will be ordering some as a X-mas present for myself ;-)

And not to forget the Lego Indiana Jones Demo, my son will love you for that one :-)))

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!!!!!

:o Premium Avatars only 20p! yay!

Great update Mike, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. :)
xx ;)

DiscoMcDisco 22 December, 2009 @ 10:48 am   20

Seriously, we’re being spoilt here, there are some CRACKING discounts in that list.

I can think of at least 8 things on the list above that i’ll be buying as soon as they’re available, in a bid to get over the 120 purchases mark :D

Well done guys, thanks for the Xmas Presents, and may 2010 bring you, and us, everything the PS3 wants and needs to stay the best console money can buy!

RagingAvatar 22 December, 2009 @ 10:48 am   21

Vagrant Story!!! Woohoo!! (Man, I wish I had some money in my account!)

This is probably the best update for the PS Store – ever.
Cheap Fat Princess, Warhawk and Bomberman Ultra.
Vagrant Story (so good it had to be mentioned twice!)
Premium avatars

AND

ADHOC-PARTY!!! The fact that Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is on sale again means that no-one, I mean, no-one has an excuse to not be getting their hunt on over Christmas! UNITE!

DANTHEMAN121 22 December, 2009 @ 10:48 am   22

Thanks for a great store update just one question tho. it’s been said that Hustle Kings will have Home unlocks or Game Launching can you confirm this?

get2sammyb 22 December, 2009 @ 10:48 am   23

On cold afternoons do I wait,
For Mike and the team to detail the latest Store Update.
Today is the last of the year,
Because everyone is filling their stomachs with rum and beer.
So today I just want to say one thing,
Thank you, oh, thank you, for giving us Hustle Kings.

(And Merry Christmas Mike! Thanks for an awesome year!)

AcidCrashX 22 December, 2009 @ 10:49 am   24

Oh I thought i’d ask because I’m seeing a lot of US coverage today. Any ideas on a White Knight Chronicles UK release date? I dont remember seeing one for us yet.

Merry Xmas mate :)

KC-alpha-14 22 December, 2009 @ 10:49 am   26

Bloodhound123 22 December, 2009 @ 10:51 am   32

Triforce-1976 22 December, 2009 @ 10:51 am   33

Nice Hustle Kings and Pirates of the Caribbean Level Kit. Seems Xmas is early this year :) Shame that braid still isnt out in holland, but awell those 2 will do for now also.

Also Merry xmas to everyone here :)

Great update again!! Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year!! :)

Carnivius_Prime 22 December, 2009 @ 10:52 am   35

Just got out of hospital and I find this? Cheered me up plenty. Thanks muchly for knocking down Warhawk. I got caught out buying the US version and then buying the booster packs from the UK store and finding out they aren’t compatible (even though the game updates and trophies worked fine). Much happier buying it as a download too. Nab me that Dante’s Inferno demo too, and I’ll buy the Pirate Level pack for LBP (not sure about the costumes. I don’t think I want a johnny depp sackboy). Might get Hustle Kings too. Lots of choice.

By the way if anyone hasn’t got it already I really recommend Crash Team Racing on PS1. I bought it to download a couple years ago when I got my PSP and it is still in my opinion the most fun karting game around. Graphics don’t look too dated compared to most other PS1 games either.

price of premium avatars is cheaper than I thought. Nice work. Can we get some new Uncharted 2 ones of all the main cast? :D

Awesome update. I’ll admit to hoping for FFVIII, as it was released in US last week and it was my first FF bar Mystic Quest. Regardless, there’s some awesome offers for my PSPGo and a lot of great discounts on PS3 games. Haven’t followed the news on those avatars, so no idea if they’re any good, but at this price you can’t really go wrong.

Just wondering, there won’t be another seperate update between xmas and newyear, right? Or do you poor sods have to work (just like yours truly :/) those days as well?

Either way, merry christmas 7 a happy new year in case i forget to come back here before then.

    Mike Kebby 22 December, 2009 @ 11:13 am

This is the last update of the year, we’ll be back to normal service on the 7th of January.

Nice! You seemed to be trying to play down this update a little after last week but it’s still an excellent update with a few little surprises here and there.

One question, does the LBP Pirates Costume pack contain all six individual costumes listed above it? That’s excellent value if it does.

Have a great Christmas and New Year Mike, don’t get too drunk and end up accidentally posting those vids of you impersonating a Deathclaw onto the Store!

See you in the next decade!

    Mike Kebby 22 December, 2009 @ 11:23 am

I do believe that the Costume Kit does contain all six costumes, though I’m not 100% sure.

DiscoMcDisco 22 December, 2009 @ 10:52 am   38

Also, i REALLY want to second thorgrimm on his Calendar Idea… I think it’s a stroke of genius… not just stroke, but a World Wide Win… Mike/Kebby: give this guy a code and get that up and running ASAP… it would be awesome

Hey Mike, cool update, LBP pack has made my day, I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time as well as Ad-hoc mode for Dissidia. There is maybe one tiny little thing that would change it into the best update ever, *cough*code*cough* :)
Have a nice Christmas!

Thanks Mike for the last update of the year.
I think its a great update. Can’t wait to play the new ltb levels!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

ReeceLiam88 22 December, 2009 @ 10:53 am   41

merry xmas psn. keep up the hard work!

god damnit, i finally gave in waiting for hustle kings and bought inferno pool last week grrrr if only i waited a couple days
btw mike keep up the good work on the forum and have a great holiday

i mean blog

StefNighthawk 22 December, 2009 @ 10:54 am   44

That’s a great PSOne classic to end the year.

Still sad that D3 Publishing seems to be under contractual obligation not to sell the “Puzzle Quest” games in Belgium. Who has a contract not to sell products?

Spartan-spur 22 December, 2009 @ 10:54 am   45

Nice to see such an early update, and a pretty good selection there too! I was worried i’d miss the update due to my works xmas party so cheers for that :)

Vagrant Story should go down well with the psone obsessives, you’d think FF8 is the most anticipated game of 2009/10 from these blogs! Saying that I’ll most likely buy both of them eventually… :p

Definitely looking forward to checking out adhoc party too!

Merry Christmas Mike and everyone at the EUstore!!

Been looking forward to Hustle Kings for a while, going to have to wait for christmas now and hope I get a PSN card. Its been an expensive year for me on PSN and haven’t been able to pick up some of the games I should of, will definately get Trine at that price and maybe Fat Princess as well if the community is still there.

I wonder what great games we will get next year, any hints?

Merry Christmas Mike!

designheadache 22 December, 2009 @ 10:55 am   47

I would certainly agree the store, indeed the entire PSN has come on leaps and bounds from last year. Keep up the great work, and happy christmas to you all :-)

Finally Vagrant Story!! Dante’s Inferno’s demo and some Pain character!
Thanks for having this update on Tuesday instead of Thursday! We can have a really MERRY XMAS!
Season greetings to all of you guys

Wehn will today’s update be? Early like last time or late!!

I wanna Hustle some new Avatars ;-)
