While most attendees to the SCEE press conference at gamescom will have anticipated some announcements around PlayStation Vita, our upcoming next generation portable, few would have predicted the unveil of the brand new PSP-E1000.
Value for money is the goal with this new model that will retail at just €99.99 (RRP), accompanied by an exciting range of PSP Essentials titles that will retail at only €9.99 (RRP) and will include Invizimals: Shadow Zone, EyePet and many more.
While PSP-E1000 does not include Wi-Fi, it will still provides access to the full catalogue of PSP games either on UMD or from PlayStation Store via Media Go. The design is also slightly different, with a Charcoal Black finish – the same as on the slimmer PS3 model – to give more of a matte feel.
PSP-E1000 will be available across PAL. But that’s not all that was announced at the SCEE gamescom press conference – be sure to read our posts on the PS3 price cut and announcements and the new social applications and games coming to PlayStation Vita. You can also watch the full press conference right here on PlayStation.Blog until 6pm BST / 7pm CET on Wednesday.

No Wi-fi is the reson I won’t be getting it.
I think it was a bad decision to remove that. I’ll probably be looking into a PSP-3000 model instead.

Good for kids, I guess. Shame about the no wifi though, as it does look very cool besides that.

I think this is a great idea and the removal of WiFi makes it perfect for children. This isn’t meant for the hardcore gamer, we have the Vita for that! This is great for parents who’s children want a PSP but can’t afford a lot and don’t want their children going online.

I’ve had a few psp’s and its like sony cant be assed with them…..
We never have remote play games any more.
Dont have flash player so you cant watch youtube vidoes.
I Still have a psp and cost £150 and over 20 games.

Since it as no Wi-fi, what happens to Ad-hoc multiplayer? The PSP essentials are quite cheap right? so using it (force) to get a friend or cousin to play Monster Hunter or Fifa would be nice. If I can’t do that then its pointless for me.
Don’t take it away…..

Posted on 16 August, 2011 at 7:54 pm by Focalpoint
i dont know what 99 euros is in pounds but i still cant see it being cheap enough to warrant the lack of wifi. it renders the playstation store, web browser and lot of other things useless on the device.

I will definitely get this to play all my Japanese UMD games
) Don’t need the Wifi as I buy all my PSN content on the PS3 and sync to the PSP due to having a 500GB HDD in the PS3
)
PSP needs to have multiple accounts authorised at the same time like PS3 and it will be great
) hate having to sign in and out of my EU, US and JP accounts all the time for different content.

Wait, did you just say that FIFA 12 will be less than €10?!
If that’s not a mistake, it’s a MASSIVE deal.
16
Posted on 16 August, 2011 at 8:02 pm by petelechem
@13 €99 will probably be £79.99 based on the PS3 being £192 on Amazon and that being €249.

If you dont have wifi then why not??? Not everyone does or if you want one till the Vita??? Uncharted 3 looks epic. And Assassins Creed Vita should be good. Shame nothing about Agent.

The new version not having wifi is a sure sign that the PSP playstation store will be taken offline pretty soon. Probably around this or the Vita’s release?

Downgrading the PSP, Sony is on the forfront of technoligy.
So sad…

The lack of wifi is no big deal TBH, all it means is that you can’t pay the extortionate prices of PSP games from the ps store or play online which is pretty much dead already on PSP, or use the crappy browser which didn’t work anyway lol

Posted on 16 August, 2011 at 8:16 pm by X_Weapon
Mmh…I have a pretty big list of PSP games to buy, some unfortunately aren’t available on the Store and maybe never will (title such as Valkyrie Profile or Star Ocean 1&2).
So, in other words I would like to buy a PSP but with 129€ I can get a PSP-3000 and it’s a better deal than this.
I’ll see.
—– it will still provides access to the full catalogue of PSP games either on UMD or from PlayStation Store via Media Go —–
^ Good to know.

Looks like buying LittleBigPlanet PSP for this model would be kind of pointless considering you won’t be able to publish any of your levels nor download any. It does have a nice look to it though, shame the is no Wi-Fi version, I’d have probably brought it if it did considering my PSP (the first model) has kind of taken a battering over the years and picking up a new model at that kind of cheap price would’ve been great.

Posted on 16 August, 2011 at 8:21 pm by BAZ1307
I’ll be buying one of these so that I can play my stack of UMD’s that won’t work on my dead PSP-1000. Yes I bought a PSPgo to continue buying PSP games, but I have at least 40 UMD’s which I can’t play, and I will finally be able to if I buy this cheap PSP.
Is it possible to transfer games directly from the PS3 to this PSP? I don’t think it will, because the PSP needs to be activated with a PSN account before transferring a game over. Then again, I have my PSPgo for downloadable games so it’s not a problem.
@18 LOL seriously? The PSP Store will stay up for many years to come. The PS Vita is fully compatible with PSP Store games, so there’s a big enough reason to keep the PSP Store up for the life of the Vita.

I dunno guys, I like the idea of this revision.
No one liked having to use the virtual store on the Go, and everyone [DELETED] about the browser. Makes sense to remove the Wifi inorder to reduce costs.
Good way to respond to the 3DS’s pricedrop I say.
+ I’m glad that after 3 more revisions, my PSP 2000 isn’t missing out on anything.

Who will want a wifi-less psp when the vita is just round the corner? Good for kids I suppose but it just seems crazy that anyone else would want one!

LOL
You fail, Sony. Yet again, you fail.

This could be good ‘legacy’ format for playing PSP games after the console is dead. An original PSP model will probably be better for playing original PSP games on as the Vita upscaling won’t look great. Hopefully the screen will be fairly decent and maybe a bit smaller so it doesn’t highlight the low resolution so much.

I‘m on this post Now as a cynic i agree it a cynical move by Sony they remove Ps2 BC to save money, they remove linux, they stop the comic store, & now since there No new PSP games on store for ages.
it signs all the hallmarks of death of the PSP, sony only does take down stuff.

Psp could have been the most successfull handheld system ever if marketing and game line up had been done correctly, just look at sales in japan. Does Sony really think that removing a part of what make a system good and selling a downgraded version at a barely lower price is an answer to disapointing sales?
New packaging with FFT0 + new skin of the psp 3000 = success
New packaging with MH3 + new skin of the psp 3000 = success
Massive launch of psp games on the psn (50 / 100+ at least) +/or localisation of all those sleeper japanese hit = success
Downgraded psp system at 99€ + limited pricedrop of old umd already available = Fail

I would be all over this new and “improved” PSP if they changed the form factor a bit. Some how the PSP makes me cramp every time i try to play it and i bet i am not alone on this one.
The lack of wifi is no real problem since the browser is useless and skype drains the battery life. As a music player or skype conference device it was no good any way since the volume or lack thereof was to bad for words. In a way this PSP will solve some of my problems with the PSP 3000 namely all the useless crap wont be on it (I.E. an RSS reader a comic book reader several store icons etc.).
So my big question is will the casing be exactly the same or differ slightly in proportions ?

Ha, thats got to be the biggest joke going!
As it was said earlier in the thread, who would buy one of these now considering the Vita is out soon???
Look around the PSPgo failed to re-ignite the PSP game catalogue, add new developers, etc…
Add to this the end of Comic updates and a diminishing release schedule of PSP titles, its like when the Gameboy Advance died out to be replaced by the DS, what are Sony thinking….oh I know, how do we scrape the barrell out and flog this dead horse?
Pointless low-fi device….I’ve never had my PSPgo on for months now, waiting to see what we will ‘actually’ get with the Vita – I still don’t believe that it will play old PSP games, you know what Sony are like! Promises, Promises!
Sony want to take a leaf out of Commodore’s book – they too released a glut of hardware at their ‘end of days’ which led consumers to be unsure which machine to purchase – that was the end of Commodore!
The more I think about it, I still can’t believe there was a full dedicated post to this new PSP! LOL, its like we’ve gone back 5 years! Oh deary me! I get more enjoyment from my Android phone than I do now with my PSPgo – go figure Sony!

Now all we need is digital (downloadable) versions of the Invizimals series, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Crisis Core: FInal Fantasy VII… Then everyone will be happy!

Price? Perfect.
Styling? Perfect.
Idea? Perfect.
Lack of wi-fi? Mistake… if only because the price of a wireless card cannot be that expensive for a mobile device like this.

You first promise that ALL PSP games would go digital for PSPgo, but now you release a PSP without WiFi? I feel offended.

No WiFi at all? If this has wired multiplayer functionality (possibly through USB / Media GO / AdHoc Party), then there’s a chance I’ll buy this. (My old launch PSP has taken a battering, and it’s battery life is getting shorter). Please say there is wired multiplayer functionality. You can’t make LittleBigPlanet PSP a play/create/NOshare game.

Why are people moaning about no wifi? I dont play games online with my DS or 3DS and don’t intend to play online with a psp. I won’t use the browser either, I’d use my iPhone or PC.
other than PS1 games I wouldnt download anything on the device and I’m sure there is a way to transfer ps1 games to this new PSP from the PS3. Now I hope this will end up being around 80 quid and then after so many years I will have a PSP. Hope the screen is good on this

@robbenslb (post #46)
Use some logic, man. Why do you think it’s so cheap? Sacrifices must be made. If you want Wi-fi then stick with the PSP you’ve presumably already got. If you want stereo sound then plug in some headphones. This PSP is clearly designed for those who’ve not yet bought a PSP and want to delve into the sizeable back catalogue without having to spend a small fortune.
