The European PlayStation.Blog will be down for maintenance from approximately 5pm on Monday, 14 May. This is because we are moving the blog to a new server and our IP address is changing. The exact period of disruption will vary based on each individual’s Internet Service Provider (ISP) and how long they cache our old IP address.
If you are able to access the blog as normal at this time, bear in mind that, while you are free to browse and comment as normal, you may encounter issues, such as comments not saving correctly or not appearing at all.
Please bear with us, and we will do everything we can to ensure the disruption as small as possible. Be aware that this is not related to PlayStation Network and none of your gaming services will be affected.

That’s ok, I’ll be away then for couple of ways since you know Alton Towers vacation. Let’s hope it works fine when I get back.

@stefanv27 Er, that doesn’t stop ISPs holding out of date DNS data, that merely flushes the cache within your operating system. It’s probably best to use 3rd-party DNS services as ISPs are rubbish.

Seeing as the site is powered by WordPress I would’ve thought an edit feature for comments would’ve been fairly simple to implement?
I could be wrong though as my WordPress experience is fairly limited.
I’d be interested to know who you guys go with for hosting though? I’m guessing MediaTemple (Pretty big fan of those guys, despite some of their prices).
Also I agree with some of the other comments, the PlayStation.Blog works smoothly for me and always has done really.

International corporations like Sony tend to own their own server farms and employ huge numbers of staff to administer and maintain them. They don’t need to rent webspace from other organisations like us mere mortals.

@fauxtronic MediaTemple have it listed that they host Sony sites on their main page so I just assumed that they’d host the PlayStation.Blog on there too. I could be completely wrong though.
Anyway, hope the transition goes smoothly for everyone working on the PS.Blog.

James, I’m a Sysadmin for a major UK high-street mother+baby retailer (yes, that one!), and when we’re doing a server/IP move like this, this is the process we use:-
1. 24-48hrs before, we drop the TTL of the affected domain entry to 30mins (or another suitably low number that your DNS provider will allow – but, don’t go too low!).
2. On “go live”, make the change to DNS (d-uh!)
3. 24-48hrs after “go live”, change the TTL on the record back to the original setting.
This minimises the timeframe where some of your users/customers go to the ‘old’ site (to no more than 30mins). However, there is always the risk of people having old/stale/stuck DNS entries.

(Having to post again, as I hit the char limit!)
However, here’s the ideal way to do it:-
1. Register a brand new sub-domain (e.g. *www1*.something.com). Have this point to the ‘new’ location.
2. 24-48 hours before “go-live”, drop the TTL on the domain to be changed.
3. On “go-live”:-
3.1 Change the record for the original sub-domain to match the new one.
3.2 Put a redirect in place on the webserver hosting the ‘old’ so that it redirects all requests to the ‘new’ (e.g. www1.something.com)
4. 24-48hrs after “go-live” change the TTL back to the original value.
5. Monitor web logs at the ‘old’ solution.
With this method, there is little/no interruption to service.

(one last post, promise!)
NB: If either of these is the process your techies are already planning on using, then apologies in advance for teaching them how to suck eggs!!
Should anyone have problems after the move, my advice is: reboot your router.
Most modern modem/routers act as “DNS proxy/caches”. By rebooting them you are emptying the DNS cache of the ‘old’ record, and forcing a refresh of the ‘new’. Of course, this assumes that your ISP is giving your modem/router the ‘new’ address.

I’ve had an issue with the front page (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/) for a couple of weeks now – it only displayes a “Be Right Back” message. I thought for a long time that the blog was down but I can access the individual posts just fine and view them from the All Posts list. What’s up with this? It seems to work on IE but not Firefox (12.0) which I normally use.

I hope this blog doesn’t end up like the US blog, cause it’s impossible to sign in there using the PS3 browser.

nice to know that you are migrating servers for the blog,,, BUT does this mean also that after this maintenance the other server problems that are keeping many ppl off home will also be sorted ie the F13, D5021, D5421, M15, that wait till you load into your own private space that you’ve bought with real money or won before logging you out of the whole network. i’ve asked for help and so have many of my friends but to no avail so have resorted to using this venue to sound off at least that way if others are suffering the same as i am then they will know that they are not alone and you lot at sony dont give a mmmmmmm
