I promised you exciting news, so here it is! SingStar, the ultimate competitive singing game for PlayStation 3, will now be available to everyone in SCE Europe territories (as well as Australia and New Zealand) as a free download straight from the XMB.
Yes, that’s right, no more need to slot in a disc to get that party started. Simply install SingStar from the XMB and you will be able to start singing in no time, share your performances with the community and visit the SingStore to get hold of more great tracks for your collection.
I’ve listed all the great things about SingStar on the XMB for you below but I am most excited about the fact that you can now play SingStar with your PlayStation Eye camera. We have spent many an afternoon testing this in the office and are pretty pleased with it so please let us know what you think! This will only work for single player mode, so if you’re gearing up for a serious SingStar battle, you’ll obviously still need to plug in some mics.
If you’re brand new to SingStar and have never bought a song from the SingStore before, there are also some short demo songs available for you to download and try out.
SingStar on the XMB:
- The SingStar game client is FREE, no disc required!
- Sing with PS Eye
- Compatible with SingStar microphones, official PlayStation Wireless headsets and common USB microphones
- Short demo songs available for download for new SingStore customers
- Easy access PS2 and PS3 disc swap from song carousel
- Use PSP or PS Vita to create playlists with SingStar Remote
- Instantly share your performances with the SingStar community and your friends on Facebook
- Acquire new trophies
SingStar will be added to the XMB very soon. Follow us on Twitter @SingStarHQ and keep your eyes peeled on www.singstar.com for more news and a confirmed release date.

I’m not buying anything off the store again I’ll tell you that. N that isn’t a childish way of trying to get rid of the icon, just feel ps have let us down by not responding to their ‘valued’ customers or at least taking in feedback, whether or not some people have took it abit far! Either way would love a response. Don’t like putting my money in a company that clearly don’t think much of us….

Reading a few of the responses to a little icon people can just skip past, makes me worry about the future of the human race. I mean feedback is fine, but really? ‘Switching’ to another platform because of one icon? As a user of all platforms I really don’t understand the logic behind this, because they all do it.

I want rid of the singstar icon, I haven’t played it, don’t want to play it and don’t want the icon taking up room on MY XMB (or does paying hundreds of pounds not make the PS3 mine?)
I hope they release 4.31 CFW soon so I can get rid of singstar…
this is a joke and if this is a sign of things to come I don’t think I’ll be bothering with a PS4…

@Sp4rkyM4rk1337
or me it’s not just the icon but the idea that Sony can force game icons onto YOUR XMB if a game isn’t doing very well to try and boost sales, it’s about the principal behind that singstar icon…

just want to add my own voice to the singstar discussion.
i agree with a lot of people here who have said it is wrong of Sony to not just offer something but force something on people.
i have no interest in using singstar, so the icon just takes up my xmb real estste and becomes a source of minor irritation.
i dont agree with some responses from the author of this thread, although i do empathise the conditions under which they are posted. What is apparent is that Sony appear to be standing firm rather arrogantly on this. their reasons will simply be monetary….high volumes low value. they will obtain more custom fom those who will “try” the service than not doing it.
this makes me concerned for the future of online platforms and they way in which they will be monetised.
im not a high value customer but im a loyal customer and have been since ps1….but moves like this make me consider my loyalty and what it is actually worth.
regards
Simon

Have you all spotted the other THIRD PARTY AD which has just made a show on the store and now at the top of this blog ?
BT Infinity !
More rubbish from a rubbish company !
Its slipped in though.

isnt BT broadband one of the most complained about providers? im sure i read that somewhere… dunno about their fibre network but i guess its as bad… hate the tv ad for it though, and the bloke at the top of the page looks like he could join in singing with the singstar t**ts.

REMOVE IT OR I GO TO THE HACKERS.

So I’d really like to remove this useless forced down the throat piece of software which takes up unnecessary disk space and shows up in my XMB without me wanting it.
Great, you made a deal with sony on a forced install in XMB, now let me remove it because I don’t want this.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE THE SINGSTAR APP GO AWAY FROM THE XMB.
ALL THREE PS3 USERS in our house do NOT WANT IT. We tried the game a year ago, it’s not for us. This is NOT AN EXCITING EVENT, it’s on a par with Amazon forcing you to accept advertising when you buy a KindleFire HD – you can opt out but you have to pay £10.
I want to choose what I have installed on my PS3 not have it invaded by software I am not interested in. OK, I don’t have to install Singstar but it’s intrusive and I’m massively disappointed by this step.

Nina,
can’t you see that some of the PS3 owners are mature (30 or 40 something) people that don’t want to see SPAM for some preschool game every time they’re starting up the XMB? The whole family tried Singstar and yes, the whole family hated it or thought it’s childish or just plain boring, so please let us remove the ad.
I’m not going to do another update until this becomes removable. Sony finally lost the credit they were given. Forced unremoveable advertisement, on a console? It’ll be Microsoft next time, that’s for sure.

Could you imagine running Windows Update on your pc, only to discover it came with unremovable adware? Or powering up your mac and being greeted by a fullscreen photo of some ditzy girl holding an iPad?
Sony, you truly have turned cluenessless into an artform.

@Sp4rkyM4rk1337
Imagine, if you will, buying a piece of IKEA furniture. It wasn’t charity or a generous gift, but something you paid for with cold, hard cash and the intent of getting that piece of furniture without unwanted bells and whistles cluttering your livingroom.
You use it for years and its okay. It does what you want it to do, its not obnoxiously present, and the closest thing to unwanted ‘extras’ are the occasional IKEA booklets that come in the mail and are entirely optional.
All is well…
Untill suddenly the Swedish ambassador knocks on your door, forces his way in and draws a giant logo all over your wall with permanent marker, claiming you will like it eventually if you just stare at it long enough.

Agreed with Thalia_01. This icon is getting too much going into our own choices. We want option to delete it! Or… at least move it away from Game folder! I think…. how about this can think some judge? Its gettin as heavy problem like Internet Explorer case in Windows , where Firefox, Chrome and others wanted Ballot screen… this is same problem… some “advertisement or not wanted softrware” in our piece of hardware what we are buying from you!

As a sign of my frustration with the store and blog staff, And anger at the way we are treated and scammed I will be boycotting the store and convincing others to do the same until you show us the respect we deserve as your paying customers.
Examples being,
– Blog staff ignoring important or useful questions.
– Replying to the same questions, sometimes on the same page.
– Inability to provide us with information (TWD, CS:GO)
– Promoting content, then on release saying its delayed.
– Promoting deals that don’t work and don’t fix (Dead Island).
– Releasing Content, then announce a discount a week later (WWE13).
– 95% of the PS2 games are garbage, release good games.
– Charging ridiculous amounts for digital games.
– Charging more than the US Store, Content should be equally priced.
– Forced to have a Singstar icon on the XMB.
– Feel free to add more

I’ve never posted to this blog before, but this blatant in your face advertisement has irritated me enough that I need to add my opinion to the others here.
I’m not going to stoop to hyperbole like saying I’m going to drop the play station and go to a competitors console but I have to say this move has made me like the play station brand less than I did and is a constant irritation everything I use my system.
And to the Sony defenders on here, what is your angle? Are you Sony shills? What other reason do you have to be posting your tripe? You are posting on a video game blog complaining about people complaining, you have no pulpit to stand behind for casting your self righteous rubbish.
To those who say “it’s just an icon” it’s much more than that, it’s a full screen offensive advertisement that appears every time I boot my system and every time I eject a disk. It hides my theme and it hides the nice background to journey that I chose to have as my topmost psn icon.
I don’ get sony’s stance on this.
Sony, please allow us the ability to hide/move/remove this icon.

I would have assumed “discussions” would be, do we continue to blissfully ignore everyone and change it up each update or do we add it to the terms of service and either force people to add it or deny them internet access, I can see it coming down to that, add it or fark off =/.

To all of you naieve sony fanboy/girls who say “its just an icon”, keep this in mind:
It’s ‘just’ one forced icon now… but if we accept it, there will be two icons tomorrow and five by the end of the week.
There is not a fiber of my being that believes this is some innocent noobish mistake by an out-of-touch intern at Marketing. No, this is quite obviously just a little ‘jab’ in our direction to get a feel for just how far they can go. You accept this, and you are no more than the famous frog in a pan of water that is ever so slowly being heated to a boilingpoint.
I’ve been hearing good things about Steam… is it worth the switch? I dislike gaming with keyboard and mouse, but I read that there are drivers now that let you use your ps3 controller on a PC. I have to say I’m quite tempted…

Now, Nina I know dealing with costumers can be difficult, But if you keep replying like a Robot under high orders, People will treat you like a ‘tool’. And on behalf of your company you’re certainly familiar with the phrase: “The costumer is always right” Meaning if I don’t want it i really DON’T WANT IT.

Personally, I just ignore the Singstar app. My partner has all of the disks and uses them instead, I get the fact that no-one asked for the app on their machines and there is no way of removing it (so far)….but at least it’s not like Xbox Live which is plastered with all kinds of adverts and all kinds of stuff shoved in front of you. Oh and Nina, I feel I must apologise for some of the personal comments made by some people, they may be angry about having something foisted upon them that they do not want, but there’s no need to get ugly with it.

Dear Sony,
Choose one: (i) enable the option to remove the Singstar icon from the Games menu or (ii) move the icon to the PlayStation Network menu, for example right above the icon of a similar free to play project, i.e. PlayStation Home.
While I have no problems with others who are intrigued/enamored by Singstar and who wish to keep the icon in their particular PS3 Games menu (I hope they have a great time with the product), my personal gaming profile does not mesh well with Music Games such as SingStar, Rock Band, etc.
In my Games list, the icon currently stands out like an eyesore. Annoyances such as these should be avoided (now and in the future), if only as a sign of respect towards my custom and to ensure a lasting, mutually beneficial relationship between you and me. As such, I strongly urge for a removal of the icon from the Games menu or allow the option to remove it.
1289
Posted on 5 November, 2012 at 9:51 pm by Sp4rkyM4rk1337
Thalia_01, I get what you’re saying and I don’t have an issue with it: it’s feedback. It’s your decision to make whether you like something or not, and nobody can change that. The debate of the icon’s presence is just going round in circles so I’d rather leave my opinion at this: it doesn’t bother me. Nor does the Netflix icon which I don’t use.
However…
This is what I don’t get. Steam puts titles into your Library occasionally for ‘free’ play periods, similar to the SingStar icon. The user decides whether or not they want to download it, but regardless of the decision, it remains on the list.

1287- did you read HER comments? no one told her to go die in a fire (afair) just that she should be demoted, fired or made to apologise, given that she acted like a 3 year old with a temper
Ooky – if there were basic intelligence and literacy tests, and stricter anti-troll moderation you would have been banned a long time ago, everything Ive seen from you has been attention seeking, pointless and boring, so if they are taking the children out you should be on the same ban wagon x_X
Its not off topic, he sucks…so does the Singstar icon, go email them, there is no reason not to, you can put some personal opinions over a C+P and when enough people do it they will care vs no one reading the blog

@Dermado; You haven’t seen all the comments. I assure you the worst comments have been deleted but certain individuals took it much further than you realise. As for her comments, try reading them again in the context of to whom she was replying to. People naturally take personality the wrong way when angry. A fool calls for her job when he is the one lacking comprehension.
If you have anything against what I just said, do me a favour and read my previous comments. There’s not really anything more I can add so I won’t bother.

My Plus membership runs out on December 30th and I will not be renewing it. It’s not like anything (apart from a Halloween theme) has been added for us anyway.
Like I said in an earlier post, I’ll just buy secondhand games so Sony doesn’t get any more money out of me. If we’re given the option to delete SingStar then i’ll renew.
The really funny thing, is that (the icon stays) you CAN delete the store.

It might seem like there’s a lot of childish “Im switching to another platform” whinging but i’d hesitate to label everyone who threatens to go to another platform an immature idiot. At the end of the day, businesses have about the same IQ as a mob. Its pretty much the IQ of its CEO divided by the number of shareholders. All they care about is the bottom line. They’re short-term monsters who will do anything to make a quick buck.
Does anyone really think someone in the position to make these changes that we’re crying out for is reading our comments? Fred sure as hell cant. They dont care that we consider this change unfair, obnoxious or arrogant. Do these words make money? No. The Singstar ad does though.
1294

The one thing we can rely on to penetrate blockheaded corporate minds sitting pretty in their 40 storey skyscrapers is to threaten their bottom line. Threaten to boycot. Threaten to switch to a rival platform. Its how capitalism works. Obviously its a complete overreaction to do this every time a company screws up but cmon guys, we’re going on for a nearly 2 weeks of silence from Sony – this is an unacceptable amount of time to wait for a statement saying “we’re fixing it” or “we’re not fixing it” considering the 80% majority that repeatadly cry “DELETE IT”
In most cases we wouldnt have to make such a stink about something as minor as this but what other option do we have? Asking nicely get us nowhere, displaying statistical data proving customer displeasure gets us nowhere and flat out raging get us nowhere too? Where else has Sony left us to attack but their wallets?
I wont boycot yet – im a patient man and damn it i like the PS3 – its been my preferred gaming platform for 5 years but if this is indeed the slippery slope that some of us fear, ill have no trouble switching to the PC by the time the next gen comes out – at least there i have adblock.

Why force it onto our XMB? Why not simply make it free on the Store? That way, if anybody properly wants it, they can buy it themselves for free on the Store.
No. There is no need to handle this situation any differently from the method I stated above. No other free games are forced onto our systems. Why is SingStar bestowed this feature, being one of the many free games on the Store? Because it is a failing party game that barely has any interest. Sony therefore incorrectly thinks that shoving it in our faces will magically change our minds. This is further proved by the inconsistencies and contradictions; such as, why no other free games but SingStar receive this feature.
In addition, Nina should not be a Sony representative. Her responses to the reasonable commenters were childish, ignorant, braindead, and unprofessional.
“IT IS STAYING!” What a great ignorant, childish, unprofessional way of making a fool of yourself and representing Sony.
Sony are arguably poor at communication, normally favouring silence over response especially through the main channels.
1296
Posted on 6 November, 2012 at 5:16 am by Nighthawk2K10
With her off-key performance, Nina gives ridiculous customer service. Instead of maintain professionalism, she would rather begin screeching rude, sarcastic, childish, dismissive responses. Her responses are nothing more than “blah blah blah I’m not listening to you”.
Buy a car.
“We have integrated this bobblehead action figure toy on top of your dashboard.”
-But I don’t want it. Take it off.”
“No, it is there to stay. You should be grateful. It is completely free, after all.”
Read her first post. “You don’t even need microphones so you will like it.” No, I will not like it. The fact you have no need for microphones will not convince me further either. “You might like it” is a ridiculous, inadequate response, and completely avoids and does not answer the question and point being raised.
Having a meal for dinner.
While a person pours a random condiment on your food.
“What did you do that for? I don’t like it. Take that off.”
“Why? You don’t even need a fork. You might like it.”
1297
Posted on 6 November, 2012 at 5:16 am by Nighthawk2K10
Nina’s responses are filled with asinine attempts at wit, humour, sarcasm, literalism, technicality, each sentence simply being an absurd, facetious, utter failure.
Whenever somebody addresses their complaint and concern, instead of professionally, reasonably, fairly, equally, and properly addressing their point and complaint, she simply replies with sarcastic, puerile, incompetent attempts at humour. She is unprofessional, incompetent, and should not be a representative of Sony.

To be fair, I think Nina is a perfect example of representatives for SCEE and Sony as a whole these days.
Rude, condescending, arrogant, and false, appear to be the prerequisite for all employees outside of core development.
My copy of Halo 4 arrived last Friday and I’ve been playing nothing since. No crashes, no problem updating achievements (unable to sync my trophies for three weeks), uninterrupted online play, a store that’s simple to navigate, fast downloads (twice the speed of PSN), cheaper digital pricing and ten times the available content…and best of all? NO SCEE!!!
