Get ready for SingStar on the XMB!

SingStar on XMB-Launch_Blog-2

I promised you exciting news, so here it is! SingStar, the ultimate competitive singing game for PlayStation 3, will now be available to everyone in SCE Europe territories (as well as Australia and New Zealand) as a free download straight from the XMB.

Yes, that’s right, no more need to slot in a disc to get that party started. Simply install SingStar from the XMB and you will be able to start singing in no time, share your performances with the community and visit the SingStore to get hold of more great tracks for your collection.

I’ve listed all the great things about SingStar on the XMB for you below but I am most excited about the fact that you can now play SingStar with your PlayStation Eye camera. We have spent many an afternoon testing this in the office and are pretty pleased with it so please let us know what you think! This will only work for single player mode, so if you’re gearing up for a serious SingStar battle, you’ll obviously still need to plug in some mics.

If you’re brand new to SingStar and have never bought a song from the SingStore before, there are also some short demo songs available for you to download and try out.

SingStar on the XMB:

  • The SingStar game client is FREE, no disc required!
  • Sing with PS Eye
  • Compatible with SingStar microphones, official PlayStation Wireless headsets and common USB microphones
  • Short demo songs available for download for new SingStore customers
  • Easy access PS2 and PS3 disc swap from song carousel
  • Use PSP or PS Vita to create playlists with SingStar Remote
  • Instantly share your performances with the SingStar community and your friends on Facebook
  • Acquire new trophies

SingStar will be added to the XMB very soon. Follow us on Twitter @SingStarHQ and keep your eyes peeled on for more news and a confirmed release date.

Did you enjoy this?

Wait, so SCEE adding forcibly adding another icon to my XMB which I will never use? Are you sending out the required microphone FOC to everyone?

Awesome for Singstar users, a bit crap for everyone else.

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 4:29 pm

Well, have you read the post above? You don’t even need microphones, so why don’t you give it a try? You might even like it!

chrisboers 23 October, 2012 @ 4:09 pm   2

Will we get the option to NOT have this on the XMB? Will there be any songs included except for the few ‘short demo songs’? And if I might have some discs lying around, will I be able to load them on the PS3 HDD, so I don’t need the disc anymore?

Questions, questions…

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 4:38 pm

    Answers, answers… :)

There will be demo songs for new people to try the game out and yes, all your disc songs will still work and no, you won’t be able to load your disc songs onto the HDD.

Terrordactyl 23 October, 2012 @ 4:10 pm   3

I’ve got volume 2 and about 50 songs that I’ve bought. If I use the xmb version;

1) Will the songs that I’ve already bought still work?
2) I assume the 20+ songs on the disk that I have won’t work, or can they be imported?

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 4:39 pm

    1) Yes.
    2) They will work and just come up on the song carousel when you put the disc in.

What a shame, I was expecting exciting news.

like others if u not need icon on u ps3
i need icoon patch = like ps store = app
give us app to singstar
app to home
app to u tube on ps3
if u not buy free ap in store = not chowing up !

i not need home ore singstar on mi xmb menu
i need 1 = u tube app on ps3
2 = video renting app

Devils_Demon 23 October, 2012 @ 4:22 pm   6

I assume we can choose whether or not we download the app right?

Claudio-Bertozzi 23 October, 2012 @ 4:23 pm   7

Yeah, finally we can play Singstar without always putting in discs. Is there any news maybe if some new disc will be released?

And I had to remind you of the problem with the playing. I haven’t tried it again now.

Claudio-Bertozzi 23 October, 2012 @ 4:23 pm   8

online battle playing*

I bought some songs a while back, and then my PS3 monolith gave up the ghost. Now the songs won’t work on my new PS3. How can I get them redownloaded and working on my new PS3?

Thanks. :)

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 4:49 pm

All you have to do is call customer services and they will transfer your songs for you. Redownload them and then you’re good to go…

You can’t save disc songs to the Hard Drive for obvious reasons, it’s all down to the music industry rules for copying tracks.

You CAN use all Singstar PS2 and PS3 discs with the XMB version, though, with the disc in the drive and swap them out as you play. You can also use all the previous Singstore purchases with it.

@TheVVolf – The songs won’t work straight away. They’re linked to the console you bought them on. However, you can easily phone Sony’s Playstation helpline and ask for all purchases to be moved to the new console. Usually takes 24 hours and then they’ll unlock. Had to do it myself.

go to u dowload list in u acount ore in store

“Well, have you read the post above? You don’t even need microphones, so why don’t you give it a try? You might even like it!”

What did I miss? Play with the PSEye? That’s a microphone! Headset? That’s a microphone.

I have neither, don’t need or want either. Why do I want Singstar added to my XMB?

Why was this made compulsory and not made available as an optional Store Download?

11 = crazy stuf u are abel to put every dlc ore song on 2 consoles whith u id .

also u need to deactivated u dead console on site belowe !

andrewsqual 23 October, 2012 @ 4:35 pm   15

This is an amazing feature. Like pb-live said chrisboers, of course you need the disc. How many of your PS3 games install to the HArd Drive so you can simply throw/give the disc away then? Cop on.
And to Post #1, well done, read the post next time about not requiring mics.

chrisboers 23 October, 2012 @ 4:35 pm   16

#9: Isn’t that kinda counter-productive with the “Yes, that’s right, no more need to slot in a disc to get that party started.”?
You still need to slot the disc then. So, only works with downloaded tracks…

Still underwhelmed.

ThreeLeggedFreak 23 October, 2012 @ 4:38 pm   17

Are the songs still tied to your machine and not your account? That is, do you still have to go through the headache of calling sony and then getting your downloads if your PS3 break. If that’s the case, no one cares, should be tied to your account and a simple deactivate allows you to get your download on another machine.

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 4:52 pm

This is not possible due to music content restrictions we have to work with. Boring but true.

i tink he saying u can sing whithout need of micro eye toy ore headset
en enjoy whith u friends

but also i am against forced entry of symbols ( icoon i not like )

chrisboers 23 October, 2012 @ 4:40 pm   19

Also, I think they posted a very misleading text when they postponed the ‘old’ Singstar game: ‘The complete Singstar experience will be available as a free download’. It’s not complete without songs.

u new moderation system = very not funy

i even very nice system = always your comment is awaiting moderation = stupid

I think you always need a microfoon, Nina, otherwise it won’t work.
They PSeye also has a build in microfoon. 😉

What are the demo songs and are it full demo songs or just a part of a song?

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 4:54 pm

Obvioulsy the experience will always be better with a microphone but people who don’t have one can always try it out by using the PS Eye to sing into.

The demo songs are short songs, not full versions.

What hasn’t been mention is that downloaded tracks are tied to your PS3 rather than your PSN account. I have loads of downloaded SingStar tracks tied to my fat PS3 I haven’t been able to transfer to my slim.

I’d be interested to know whether this has changed recently as I purchased a *lot* of them.

@MartyGUK and anyone else that needs to transfer their tracks:

In the UK, call 0844 7360595

Press the option for PlayStation Network and you will be redirected.

Explain to the operator that you want to download your Singstar tracks onto a new PS3 as your old one broke. On the phone, I was asked for:

-my sign in name
-my sign in email address
-my date of birth
-my new playstation 3 serial number

(taken from Rabidwalker’s thread on the European PS forums)

It is well worth getting a PS Eye IMO, the video replay of you making a fool of yourself singing along is priceless, and you can upload them. Forget X-Factor.

Thanks pb-live, I’ll give that a go.

Hang on, are you seriously telling me that I have to endure having a Sing star icon permanently visible on my XMB?!
I am dumbfounded and actually can’t believe this has been sanctioned.

I have absolutely no interest in playing Sing star and, believe me, I never will so I don’t appreciate having it shoved under my nose without an option.

Can you at least tell me which area of the XMB is about to be soiled, I sincerely hope it’s under music and not interfering with my games list.

Sorry for the disgruntled tone but I really feel that this is not on. By all means release a client that people can download from the store but it HAS to be optional. I don’t expect to see permanent icons for game franchises I DO like so I most certainly don’t want then for franchises I can’t stand.

Worst PS3 news I can remember!

Carnivius_Prime 23 October, 2012 @ 5:04 pm   27

This is excellent. I’ve never bought Singstar as I don’t know how much use I would get out of it (seems to be mostly a party game and I can’t have much of that where I live) but this way sounds more suited to me. I have to learn to sing for a play I’ve been cast in. This may give me some good practice. I have a PSEye so will use the microphone in that. May purchase a dedicated microphone if I get really into it all.

Cheers, Singstar peoples. 😀

Wecker25- 23 October, 2012 @ 5:23 pm   28

Good idea to encourage new Singers to that game. But for those, who already have this game I think it is nothing special. And that just only those who are new get some demo songs supported my opinion that you “ignore” the old Singstar customers. What about Playlists?! Is it so difficult to create an option like that, so that we can sort our music for Singstarpartys?! I am a bit frustrated…

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 5:34 pm

Have you got a PSP or PS Vita? You can create Playlists with that. Anyway, there are a few more things that you might like when you have a look around…

Notlaw1976 23 October, 2012 @ 5:31 pm   29

Hi Nina, will PS2 disks work with the new app on a PS3 that ISN’T a 60gb original model that doesn’t have PS2 compatibility built into it?

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 5:38 pm

You can play SingStar PS2 discs on any PS3 already using disc swap, so yes, you can do this with XMB, too. Enjoy!

vonhammer 23 October, 2012 @ 5:32 pm   30

Good idea, never played it before so will try it out.

I can see a lot of F2P on future PS Hardware.I’m sort of expecting this,Planetside 2,Dust/Eve,DCU all on a next gen interface when I first switch it on.

PS2 discs do work on any PS3 for Singstar as it just reads the song data.

glassfish 23 October, 2012 @ 5:39 pm   32

Great idea. Shame we can’t save our disc songs to hdd.

jelly_bean 23 October, 2012 @ 5:42 pm   33

This is great news for me cause I travel with my PS3 and I won’t have to use my mics. Despite the lacking of new songs lately, Singstar is the best karaoke game in the world!!!

CoolRichy008UK 23 October, 2012 @ 5:55 pm   34

hey Nina Scherer i never ever ever played singtat but i might give it a go but im not a good singer and very shy :( lol

Seeing as you have the cheek to impose your unwanted presence on my XMB, can you at least have the courtesy to answer my question about where the icon will be?

    Nina Scherer 23 October, 2012 @ 6:15 pm

Just to be clear, I won’t be on the XMB, that would be a little difficult. SingStar will.

But, I can answer your question. SingStar will sit under the game category, underneath the PlayStation Store logo. Unless one of your discs is inserted. Then it will be under that.

    With courtesy,

Hi Nina,

Cool news,

1) how will the Trophies work if we don’t own the disc version?
2) Are they the same Trophies list as the disc version?

Oh and lastly do we have a date?

Nina, if I wasn’t so annoyed at this that might have been funny 😉
Thanks for the answer but I am really irritated by this. I am all for accessibility and reaching people but this icon is intruding on the area I use most and it is insulting not to have the option to hide it.
While some people will say it is trivial and to just ignore it, I shouldn’t have to. Now something I will NEVER use is right in my face and the things I want are one step further away, making my user experience worse.

It had better not start playing music whenever the XMB rests on it! It’s going to isn’t it?!

This is not possible due to music content restrictions we have to work with. Boring but true.

Funny, it is possible on Lips for Xbox 360 and on EA’s Rockband….seems like that’s a Sony issue to be honest.

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 9:49 am

That is just what we have to work with right now. Doesn’t mean we like it but that’s the way it is.

Project2insanity 23 October, 2012 @ 7:07 pm   39

@MikLSP; Two things: Yes, it was really funny.

You’re also correct thinking people will say it’s trivial although it’s likely to be the majority rather than just ‘some’. Will it really take that much effort for you to press a directional button once to move off it each time? There’s one or two things I’d rather not be on the XMB but all I say is ‘whoop-de-do’.

Notlaw1976 23 October, 2012 @ 7:17 pm   40

Thanks Nina, I didn’t know that I could have been playing old PS2 disks all this time… DURR!!

Can I just apologise on behalf of all the decent PS3 users on here that DON’T think the addition of the SS app on the XMB is like someone stealing their freedom..!! Some people just complain for the sake of complaining. I for one appreciate your efforts.

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 9:52 am

Yes, well, you needed at least one PS3 disc until now to disc swap but now you don’t anymore…

Thank you. I guess I’ll just have to grin and bear it. :)

@ Project2insanity

So can I put a traffic cone in your front doorway, it really won’t take much effort to just step round it every day!
You wouldn’t accept that would you so why is this any different?

What you fail to understand is the choice. If there are people who like it or don’t mind, fine, but I don’t want it so why do I get no choice?
Why stop at Sing star, let’s add a franchise link for LBP, KZ, Uncharted, R&C, GoW, EyePet, Wonderbook etc. etc. etc. Will it really take much effort to skip past 35 icons before finding what you want…..

litterature 23 October, 2012 @ 7:28 pm   42

i have broke my micro receive so it’s a greaaat news 😀

I have a question btw : if a have the PS Eye + PS Headset can i sing with a friend ?

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 9:56 am

The headset would cancel out the other, so you could sing together into the PS Eye as ‘one’ or, if you plug in any comon USB microphones together, you can ‘battle’ that way.

I’ve given up wondering why Sony (the second largest music company on the planet) is not able to negotiate sensible permissions for the transfer of songs onto the HDD and between consoles when all their competitors seem to be able to. It seems bizarre that Sony Music Entertainment gives less favourable treatment to Sony Computer Entertainment than they do to Microsoft!

However one thing which is clearly within the Singstar developers’ gift is the implementation of a feature whereby Singstar has the option to remember which discs the user owns, show all the available songs in the carousel and then ask for the appropriate disk to be inserted as required. This will allow many more options when creating playlists and also more variety in team battles. It should not be mandated, and it should be easy for the user to select which disks can be used in any particular circumstance (for example they may want to limit a team battle to the songs from just 3 discs, and they may want to include or exclude songs bought from the online store).

Has this simple, much requested feature finally been included?

If not, is introduction of this feature in your roadmap at all? If not, is there a fundamental reason why not?

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 9:59 am

Here’s the thing. We’re Sony Computer Entertainment, NOT Sony Music. We need to work with them like anyone else. Just because we have the same name doesn’t mean we are the same company.

You may think this is all ‘simple’ so if you have some code condidering everything we have to when developing stuff, please send it over and we see how that works?

Ryusennin 23 October, 2012 @ 7:48 pm   44

So… Sony gave the boot to Folding@Home and replaced it with SingStar.

Makes sense.

I will refuse to download this and buy songs until the songs are tied in with a account. Having it tied to 1 ps3 is the worst thing ever.

Project2insanity 23 October, 2012 @ 8:22 pm   46

@MikLSP; Wow, you’re really taking this out of proportion, aren’t you? This is one icon, not 35 and no matter how many ways you put it, it is still only one icon. A traffic cone at my front door is also an extremely poor analogy. The icon is closer to a stone in a garden so I repeat: whoop-de-do.

vonhammer 23 October, 2012 @ 8:29 pm   47

Thinking about DRM,I wonder if there will be a move towards hosting tracks via Gaikai.
You could sign in anywhere, and stream the content but not download it.

Also it would open up the possibility of expanding the service onto peoples TV’s.You could own the market, and have a massive user base ready to pay for content.

A TV option could be a party pack, were the user pay’s £5 and gets access to content for 12 hours or so.Because it’s streaming,it should be easy to set up timed licenses and it’s easy money.

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:02 am

Streaming is a whole different kettle of fish but thanks for sending your ideas. They’re great.

bitbydeath 23 October, 2012 @ 8:35 pm   48

Thanks Nina, this might get myself and my wife back into it more.
Hope SingStar continues this way onto the PS4 too!

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:03 am

Cool – looking forward to seeing some of your performances on then :)

great news..i was wondering why the singstar viewer had been taken from the store, guess this is why..

1st off just to be clear you WILL have the option to download the app or all this moaning has been for nothing.secondly not being able to load the discs to your hdd is not a problem..imo this is great news for new and regular singstar users,i say this because youll find that like me and other regular ss users at least 60% of the songs we sing are songs that are downloaded from the store,we really only use the disc to start the game and maybe sing the odd couple of songs from the disc,so for veteren users it will take alot of hassle away..and the new option of using the pseye is brilliant, dont need to keep getting the mics out now..and if we can use a bluetooth headset aswell then that makes it even better.

some of you guys just moan because you can.
if they were taking something away from us then fair enough, but moaning because they are giving us something extra IF we want it is just ridiculous imo.

anyway rant over, keep up the good work ss team, really looking forward to this.

hope this clears up a few things.

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:07 am

To be clear – the icon will be there but you of course have the option of whether to install it.

Good to hear that you, as a regular player, appreciate what we’re doing with this. There’ll be more to come too, so…

PS: I appreciate a good rant like this :)

Will Dance (from Singstar Dance and songs which have it available on the singstore) be supported by the app?

Currently if I want to play Singstar Dance with the dance features, I need to ensure that I boot up Singstar with the Singstar Dance disk (disk swapping would only give me access to the songs om the singstar dance disk, not the dance gameplay)

Can you set up a disk-for-digital trade solution? Here is how you could do it:

People interested in this could log in to a website with their PSN account. There they could select the SingStar disc that they would like to convert to digital format. They would then have to print out a form with this list and a bar code, and then send all the discs (just the discs, not the covers) with this form to a specific address. When you received the discs, you could just scan the bar code to get the list of discs up on your screen, and then do a quick check to see if this was correct. If so just click on a button, to have the download codes e-mailed automatically to that user.

Then there wouldn’t be any risks of misuse or breaking any content restrictions.

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:10 am

Great idea but discs and the SingStore are two seperate things so I don’t see this happening in the near future.

@ Project2insanity

That was a hypothetical extreme, I didn’t think you’d take it so literally.

Perhaps you don’t use your PS3 to play many games or don’t mind having no choice on matters but neither apply to me and so the analogy remains valid.

Is it really so outlandish to ask for the option to remove something which is unwanted and obstructive? No.

have you not read any of the comments including mine? YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT IF YOU DO NOT WANT IT….get a grip man

@ neostorm

The download is optional yes, the icon is not and will remain present whether you follow it through to the install or not.
Thanks for tour concern 😉

GraphiteGB 24 October, 2012 @ 12:45 am   55

finaly I can ditch the smeging specific mics that were a pain as they were not rechargable but need rechargable batteries at an extra cost.
USB wireless mics with built in batteries yea.

dogwalker4000 24 October, 2012 @ 1:21 am   56

The solution is simple. If you don’t like the logo, ignore it or saving that get an Xbox. There problem solved and toys back in the pram.

Now please, take your dummy and stop crying. It’s a an icon on a screen…geez its not the end of civilization as we know it.

Not enough positivity on here, people always have a gripe about something or other, gets depressing.

Bumblebee 24 October, 2012 @ 1:48 am   57

Personally, I think this is BRILLIANT news. Hopefully it will mean

1) Better, and more, songs released now that more people have access to SingStar, and

2) People will watch my Zombie video, rate it nicely and I’ll finally get that flippin’ trophy!

Would LOVE to be able to back up my videos though… I was devastated recently when my PS3 decided it would format my entire HDD… I lost years of SingStar videos from great fun parties… it’s as if someone broke in and burned all my photo albums. I can never, ever get those great memories back :( I also lost over 250 hours of Skyrim! CURSE YOU, PS3! I don’t want to scare people though, it was during a disc scan from the secret system menu… it went “yeah, found a problem, hang on, I’ll fix it… [tries to fix it]… nah, made it worse, now I have to ERASE YOUR ENTIRE GAMING LIFE”.

Never use that menu! I’m a techie nerd so I knew what I was doing… sadly, the PS3 didn’t.

Backup and restore to cloud, or USB, even if encrypted, PLEASE! This is the second time I lost lots of SingStar memories… it hurts.

Project2insanity 24 October, 2012 @ 2:29 am   58

@MikLSP; You said it yourself, it was a hypothetical ‘extreme’. By that alone, it would appear some part of you realises how far out of proportion you’re taking this.

Again, I will said you’re correct in part: “Is it really so outlandish to ask for the option to remove something which is unwanted and obstructive? No.” But is it really so outlandish to throw the rattle out the pram over something so little and causes absolutely no harm? Yes.

jelly_bean 24 October, 2012 @ 2:42 am   59

Nina, you make me laugh. Haha. I meant that I take my PS3 to my beach house. Hehe. But I have already traveled with my PS3 on a plane twice 😛

Craigy1978 24 October, 2012 @ 2:55 am   60

Nina – will you please look into this –>

It seems once you have bought a certain number of songs from the singstore that you run out of further entitlements to buy more. Surely this cannot be right!? How can preventing me from buying and spending money be good for business? I am so frustrated as i have plenty of hard drive space, money in my PSN account and am getting this message appear when i try purchase songs?

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:20 am

The team are already looking into this and i believe there will be a message posted to explain soon…

Craigy1978 24 October, 2012 @ 3:03 am   61

& Also please please pelase remove this stupid restriction fo only allowing users to have 1000 songs on their PS3 at any one time. The whole point of me buying the downlaods was to cut down on the amount of times i have to change discs during the game. I have about 60-70 songs at the moment that arent on the hard drive because of this restriction .. At no point do i ever recall knowing about this!? Surely more and more people will start coming across this restriction and having a similar gripe about it as you push the downloads .. let us store whatever we want on our machines please.

Please dont forget your hardcore fans who ahev spent thousands of pounds on this franchise so far in favour of this more casual gamer approach!

Dark-Twisted 24 October, 2012 @ 3:04 am   62

Oh god, NO. NO. NO.
I don’t care if it’s anywhere on the XMB just not under Game. Do you even comprehend how many people you’re going to [DELETED] off? I understand moving the trophy collection but a pointless icon in the way of games I actually want to play is NOT the way to go. You must scrap those plans ASAP or people will be moaning about it at every chance for months to come.

[DELETED] were you thinking?

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:22 am

I guess the moderated bits mean you are really pleased about it. Thanks, we’re really proud of it.

Pretty great for those of us who have old Singstar discs lying around and never got round to picking up the new ones.

Also, thanks for not sticking the Singstar icon right at the top of the game list above everything I chose to have there and given me the option to stick it in an album..oh wait…

@Project2insanity you are right.
Sony is forcing some icons on the XMB. Most of them you can change so it’s not a techical thing. It’s the same with the Store icon that is in more places then it should be.
But when you went on PSN you sighned your soal to Sony. If they were customer friendly they would let you change them. Guess what.

brucewillis215 24 October, 2012 @ 4:11 am   65

Dear Sony please move that Singstar icon to music category or put it into services category. there are many that will be displeased with this change, we will whine until that Singstar icon is gone from the game category, i bought tbe disc version of Singstar but i don’t want to play him again and i seriously don’t want him where my trophy collection used to be.

almighty-slayer 24 October, 2012 @ 4:15 am   66

Firmware update and new Singstar is out.

It’s at the top of your games list whether you like it or not and there is no way to remove it. However, it doesn’t actually download the app unless you tell it to, which is a bright side.

But i downloaded it anyway. Never played a Singstar game before. Might make a fool of myself tomorrow (when everyone is out of the house…)

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:34 am

…and then you upload your video to the community for all to watch? No? Why not? Have fun!

SpitelordDekka 24 October, 2012 @ 5:35 am   67

So there’s no way to remove the cancer that is Singstar from the XMB?

fordperformance 24 October, 2012 @ 5:42 am   68

Can you make it optional for our XMB. I have no interest in this singing stuff, yet its now in front of my folders of games i do play. Why wasn’t this just an optional download in the new ps3 store you just released…..

BEYOND-14 24 October, 2012 @ 6:02 am   69

Please. Please make this optional. Let us remove it from the XMB. If we want to re-download it in the future, why can’t we just get it from the store?

At least move it to the music section. Please, this is ridiculous.

Just to be clear, I won’t be on the XMB, that would be a little difficult. SingStar will.
But, I can answer your question. SingStar will sit under the game category, underneath the PlayStation Store logo. Unless one of your discs is inserted. Then it will be under that.
With courtesy,

nina = u not corect = i got patch en i not got game
but i see singstar on xmb
= very very very disepointed = i not want .

give c4 to persone( s ) who made this into ore xmb = ugly + not want

give peopel options to buy free icoon home – singstar …
now u are forcing us to have jet another icoon + very not amused where u put ith . i hate karoeke songs

update 4.31 needed very fast to remove unwanted icoon

= – 100 = ugly not want
i hate singing

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:39 am

We are not forcing you to sing or install SingStar. Up to you if you want to try it.

also again lots advatars not chowing up in blog !
are hackers playing ore whath ?

Dark-Twisted 24 October, 2012 @ 6:27 am   73

People saying to ignore the icon and suggesting those who moan about it are childish are completely missing the point.

I don’t like this and I cannot hide it. This to me, is effectively bloatware.

Sony have placed a game I have no interest in playing ABOVE my own games that I do want to play- it’s about the ethic, if I can’t hide it, then we should be insulted by the clear dismissal of our opinions.

Dark-Twisted 24 October, 2012 @ 6:43 am   74

The icon is WAY out of proportion to anything else in the column, maybe even the whole XMB.

Did whoever design this go to design school? ughhhhhh. and Why does the trophy have online mode at all? How about just save everything syncved to the server onto the PS3 instead of me setting it to offline mode and not having to download my own trophies every single time? UGH. Why are you so stupid, Sony?!

AnalogueAutomat 24 October, 2012 @ 6:46 am   75

Please remove this Singstar icon from my Game tab right now! That is all.

Giving content for free is always good, but giving you something you didn’t ask for and forcing you to keep it either you like it or not is a different thing.
Some people like SingStar and welcomed the idea of keeping it and that if fine, but I did not ask for SingStar and I would like the option to remove it.
Is it just an icon? Indeed it is, but again, it’s for something I didn’t ask for and that I don’t want to keep, if I can delete every single game I have in the HDD, why the heck am I forced to keep it just because Sony wants us to?
Please add an option for those who don’t want it to delete it.

Why the hell is it sitting in the middle of my XMB above all my games folders?

I will never play it, but now it is in the way every time I turn on the PS3, how do I delete this awful thing? I can delete all other apps.

Very intrusive positioning, let us move it into a folder (like other games) or delete it entirely.

revamp xmb = very hard needed + very fast
1 symbol = id
2 symbol = play whats on disk = game film muziek
+ hd symbol under to play games films muziek from hd
3 symbol psn network = acount – psn shop -tropies + friends
4 special place to special aps like utube – vidzone – home – singstar ……. them are then placed not in ore way like now
5 settings of u console
al rest = garbadge realy u get wors by day

also advatar problems now also on ps3 !!!

Downloaded. I personally was always wanting a “discless” Singstar, but like many others I don’t agree with it being forced onto the XMB. Why no option to put it into folders with all my other downloaded games ???

TommyHindle 24 October, 2012 @ 7:56 am   80

Like the last bunch of posts i really don’t like this being forced into the XMB.
Please give us the option to remove it or at least move it somewhere else, it’s obtrusive and frankly disrespectful.
Great for people who love singstar but rather rude to force a game upon people who have already tried it and have no interest in it, especially considering it is amongst content that people have paid for.
We didn’t get the God of War or Uncharted slammed into the XMB so why singstar?

I know Japanese people love karaoke but do you have to force it down everyone else’s throat? please remove the Singstar app immediately as it it is not wanted by myself and MILLIONS of others.

My PS3 is making strange sounds since this new update, what the hell?

Can you guys over at Sony do anything right?

I’ve bought every freakin accessory there is, except PlayTV(hard to find discounted), and I really enjoy playing games on this machine, the only time I’ve been really upset over anything here was the CS:GO debacle but now this? this is unacceptable, where is the honor for the consumer who keeps you in power? where the [DELETED] IS IT ????

You have no honor anymore Sony, I think you know what to do…..

Kitehighland 24 October, 2012 @ 8:19 am   82

May seem minor to some but this is annoying. If i could simply put the icon into a folder or something but the icon has no options upon pressing triangle. I changed from xbox partially due to them forcing things you didnt want onto the os and here are sony starting to follow suit!

I don’t want this in my XMB.

Get it out of there.

I’m adding to the list of people who hate this.

You have the choice to download it true, but not the choice to hide it.

Please can you advise when the next firmware update is coming with the option to delete the icon,

It’s essentially sony’s way of forcing advertising on us and I don’t like it.

@ Project2insanity, @dogwalker4000 etc.
I’m not sure why you are reacting so adversely to my displeasure on this matter, it isn’t childish to complain and now that other people have realised the truth I appear to have been joined by a majority.
Please do make it clear to them that they are all making a mountain out of a molehill too…..or maybe now realise that people DO NOT want this obtrusive icon in their way every time they use their PS3 and everyone has a right to say so!

Ok nice update but if i want to try singstar i will download it now its in my xmb and i will probily never use it..if i use it once i would like to delete it.Same with playstation home i used it twice or so and i didnt like it dont force people to put things in there xmb that they dont want!
It would be nice that there will be a update that you can hide some options in your xmb.

SKxNEMESIS 24 October, 2012 @ 9:01 am   87

i think its absolutely ridiculous that we can’t remove this app. coming from someone who buys a lot of digital games i find it extremely annoying that i have to dodge the massive singstar app and why were trophies moved to the network tab? to make room for singstar? wow so not only have you changed something that didn’t need changing at all but you’ve added a completely useless app for me which i cannot remove. i can appreciate that its very useful for people who play singstar but for people like me who don’t it offensively sticks out like a sore thumb. if i asked you to make a guitar hero app i bet that wouldn’t happen and i bet it wouldn’t be forced onto us all. i have one sentence to sum this all up. the ps3 is turning into an xbox. thank you for your time however i doubt anyone will reply as criticism seems to fall on deaf ears on this forum.

helghast102 24 October, 2012 @ 9:04 am   88

And we can’t even remove it? Or at the very least put it in a folder?
Great, more stuff to clutter up the XMB with.

Ok Nina, just an idea for multiple singstars disk owners.

Why didn’t you put a settings to check disk we already own, to make songs appears in the carroussel ?

For example, i have singstar first one, singstar hits, singstar move, singstar abba, and singstar mecano. If you put an option, i’ll check only the disk i own, and i will be able to see it in the carrousel. Then, when i choose one title from any of my disk, a small popup will appears to put the “named disk” into the ps3.

At least i’ll not need to have an eye on the game box, and also on my tv to saw all titles available to sing. And also i’ll be sure i’m not buying a song i’ve already have on a cd (it’s happen one time, bit dissapointed about this…)

kingofscotland 24 October, 2012 @ 9:24 am   90

@89 What he said – this would be much better, seeing all the disc based songs we own and a prompt to insert disc if we choose it. Make it happen, surely easy enough???

I gotta agree with others on here. Forcing the icon on everyone is really irritating. If we’ll never choose to play the game, we shouldn’t be forced to have the icon on our XMB’s. My guess is you knew people would be annoyed about this, and that’s why it was left out of the blog post about the firmware, that way when people download the update, it’s too late to do anything. These decisions will come back to haunt you in the end.

ok this game is [DELETED], i try it on my brothers EU czech account , cant download any of demo song just full song , screw you sony no deal from my side

DeividHasselhoff 24 October, 2012 @ 9:38 am   93

Please give the chance to hide the icon. If i had any interest whatsoever in playing any Singstar game i would’ve bought them a long time ago. If im hanging out with friends, we have much better things to do than play Singstar and games like this are extremely pointless when playing solo.
At least make it drop down on games menu below games you actually play like other games do. I’m not going to pay you a single € no matter how long you keep the logo there and therefore it is completely pointless and annoying.

Viet-Bong-Army 24 October, 2012 @ 9:40 am   94

Why has this application link been backed into the Firmware? There’s no reason to ram ‘Singstar’ down people’s throats. Making it un-deletable is ridiculous. Fix this please.

ProjectJAY 24 October, 2012 @ 9:44 am   95

Please. PLEASE. Move the SingStar logo to the Music column! Or better yet, let us delete it! The logo itself is already massive and ugly, I don’t want to have to look at something I am never EVER going to use in a column I use all the time! I am BEGGING you!

dogwalker4000 24 October, 2012 @ 9:51 am   96

I’m not sure I understand peoples thinking on tbh, you’re all complaining about this icon and yes I can see that it would be a slight annoyance because it can’t be removed but it really is not the be all and end all. Yes its advertising (and from some comments it seems to have worked) but are things any different on the Xbox? I just think there are people on here who consistently have some to moan about, which is fair enough but the majority of people that do have a complaint do it in a very rude and aggressive manner, much like a young child who wouldn’t know any better. It’s no wonder some of you are ignored imo.

One thing I will say…It’s totally ridiculous that the Trophy icon is now clogging up my online section, remove it now before I get my toys and sling them into space. Thanks.

At the very least give us the option to remove it if it’s unwanted.

ianureeves 24 October, 2012 @ 9:53 am   98

This is a god damned outrage. I don’t want is offensive app on my xmb.

KillaT2501 24 October, 2012 @ 9:58 am   99

Awesome good for [DELETED] ups!

You should slap Buzz on the XMB too.

You know what other game is awesome for party times? FANTAVISION! HD that shiz!

Samson-Strange 24 October, 2012 @ 10:01 am   100

This needs to come off my XMB, it’s abhorrent that you would make us have to look at it FULL SCREEN every time we scroll over to the game tab.

Allow us to delete it. If this is the future of the PS3/4 and the PSN I will trade my station in for an XBOX.

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 10:02 am   101

Ok so… I know Singstar, not my thing and I don’t play it.
We all tried it that one time when everybody was drunk enough on Sylvester and never went back.
Why are you trying to force me to download this ? Don’t answer that, I know why…
This should be moved to Music where I’ll never look at it, or you should at least give me the option to deactivate it.
Have some decency Sony, just the fact that you shove this just above my games list, looking like this is a mandatory thing, is [DELETED] me off…

TRAXXAS58 24 October, 2012 @ 10:04 am   102

How about you explain to me Nina, why has this been forced upon me? I have never bought a singing game, I have never even debated buying a singing game, yet the icon is forcibly stuck there on my XMB. I know you want to make it easier for people who have it, so give them the option to put it there. Not forcing EVERYONE to have it. I am going to make a point of absolutely never using this. Seriously, what are the people at Sony thinking? I’d say a very small percentage of people actually own Singstar, so why the hell would you do this?! Absolutely ridiculous.

Splutterbug 24 October, 2012 @ 10:05 am   103

Completely understand we can’t transfer tracks to the hard drive but here’s a way you could make things more user friendly.

Have a list of all the PS2 and PS3 discs in the app settings, tick the discs you own, these songs would then all appear in your carousel, the PS3 will then tell you which disc to insert to play that particular song and you don’t have to all be hunched over the back of a disc box.

There could also be a simple display setting you could switch between, songs I can play RIGHT NOW, songs I own

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:48 am

We’ll be doing more things and developing stuff, so hopefully we’ll also be able to look into something like this further.

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 10:06 am   104

Pityful attempt… “Downloaaaad me….. I’m fuuuuuun…..”

Jammy-Strange 24 October, 2012 @ 10:07 am   105

This is appalling, why would I want to have this on my PS3? I’m 28 years old, not 5.

Make this go away.

helghast102 24 October, 2012 @ 10:08 am   106

You don’t get it, for people who use the Game tab a lot and have a plethora of digital titles in there, having to dodge Singstar every time you go into it sucks, it has no reason to be forced on us, why can’t it just be a free download on the store? We can’t delete it from our XMBs because…?

I already have a useless TV tab on my XMB, now I have this cluttering up my Games, fantastic.

Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:08 am   107

If you alreay have SingStar Dance you will still be able to play it and download the add-ons where available. Hope this helps…

Jammy-Strange 24 October, 2012 @ 10:13 am   108

No! None of this helps, I don’t want it on there and no-one else does either. Give us the option to remove it.

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 10:13 am   109

We don’t care about crappy SingStar, people buy Wiis for this.
I thought this was a gaming console…

Apollyon-Strange 24 October, 2012 @ 10:16 am   110

This sort of thing is really starting to get on my wick (as it were). I can only imagine that Sony have taken marketing tips from Apple, forcing a “fun new app” upon the entire demographic. One can then assume that unless you’re deaf, you MUST enjoy music, and if you enjoy music you MUST enjoy singing! WOW! What an opportunity for Sony! I’m only gutted I didn’t think of it first – “What XMB really needs is an app for a singing game intergrated into the firmware update and completely immovable until Sony realises it’s angering a vast majority of people who use the PS3 to play games where you shoot foreigners in the face, or rip off a Greek God’s ears and make him wear them like a codpiece instead.”

OR, maybe you could do us all a favour and at the very least give us the option to REMOVE THIS OFFENSIVE CRAP. Thank you, and good day!

TRAXXAS58 24 October, 2012 @ 10:17 am   111

I actually seriously considered using my American/Japanese account just to get rid of this stupid icon from my XMB.

WammusNL 24 October, 2012 @ 10:17 am   112

Our family will love this, especially some of the smaller ones that don’t know how to correctly disc swap :) Our PS3 is full of Store Songs. Thanks!

Splutterbug 24 October, 2012 @ 10:23 am   113

Hmm just been reading through some of these comments and it seems to equate to HOW DARE YOU GIVE ME FREE STUFF!!!!

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 10:23 am   114

I’m perfectly fine with Sony putting small things for apps where they are relevant, I have the Lovefilm advert on the TV section of my XMB and I don’t care even though I’ll likely never even consider downloading the app itself, but doing the same thing on the Games section is going too far in my opinion.

One of the best parts of the PS3 is the XMB and it’s comparative lack of advertising and general clean look compared to other platforms. This wouldn’t be so bad if the new Singstar ad was movable/deletable, but it isn’t, and to make matters worse, even if you download the game, it forces itself to the top of your download list at all times too. Once someone has seen the ad once, they are going to make their decision to download it or not. After that first time, it serves to do nothing but sit on their XMB in easily the worst possible place it could be.

I understand that you want people to play SingStar, and from what I’ve played of it, it is a fun game. But one of the reasons I, and many others, bought a PS3 is that it doesn’t shove advertisements in my face. If you want to put an ad or even get people to download something, fine, but you don’t need to FORCE people to see it.

Viet-Bong-Army 24 October, 2012 @ 10:23 am   115

You need to make this deletable. It’s horrible and over-marketing a product that I have no interest in.

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 10:26 am   116

I can do the same as you do :
Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off… Take it off…

LiquidSolid 24 October, 2012 @ 10:33 am   117

dogwalker4000 24 October, 2012 @ 10:37 am   118

I think Nina is my new favourite blog person. Giving a lot of these people a taste of their own medicine.

Well played ma’am.

helghast102 24 October, 2012 @ 10:38 am   119

We have the right to complain about “free” stuff if it’s an inconvenience, and guess what? It is.

Viet-Bong-Army 24 October, 2012 @ 10:38 am   120

“Through your use of SEN First Party Services, you may be provided with information about SNEI’s or a third party’s products or services. I do not view this as ‘Information’, I view this as intrusive.

KillaT2501 24 October, 2012 @ 10:38 am   121

People are getting angry over a free service!

But some XMB reorganizing is probably needed soon

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 10:39 am   122

@Splutterbug Free stuff ?
I’m gladly paying every year to get “free” stuff with PS+.
This is no “free” stuff since its basically just a more accessible gateway to the SingStore, which is… A STORE. Where you’ll have to buy songs if you want to be able to play your free stuff.
But even that I can understand, Sony has to find ways to make some bucks, no problem in that.
The problem is how they’re shoving it at the worst spot possible.

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 10:55 am

There are free demo songs available if you care to try it out. Who knows, you might even enjoy it.

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 10:43 am   123

Also, one more thing – the reason people are annoyed by this forced ad is that we have come to expect a high standard in this regard with Sony. As an owner of a PSP, a Vita and a PS3, I’ve been very satisfied with how the XMB, as well as the main menu of the Vita, are clean and generally, can look how I want them to and aren’t filled with things I’m not interested in.

The kind of advertising that forces itself on you is cheap and makes it seem like the company thinks of you as nothing more than a number to add to a list of “People who downloaded this.” or “People who showed interest in this.”. This was a major reason for me in choosing the PS3 over competitors. It looked nice and well designed and not like it just wanted to get me to buy/download things.

We’ve come to expect a high standard for presentation from Sony, and forced advertising with obtrusive placement is exactly what is not considered high standard.

    Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 11:03 am

I could explain the concept of advertising to you now but that would probably take too long. We are a first party franchise and we’re extremely proud to have been around for over eight years. Annoyed you may be but and ‘ad’ this really isn’t.

JOHNY--BRAVO 24 October, 2012 @ 10:44 am   124

Viet-Bong-Army 24 October, 2012 @ 10:45 am   126

@FortyPercent – well said!!

dum-dee-dum 24 October, 2012 @ 10:50 am   127

I don’t come here to comment much, but when I do, it’s because i’m not happy. There should be an option to hide singstar, and for the very least, don’t place it between the bluray game and the downloadable game section. Looking at xmb now, it’s all just crazy…. Tv/video service section… maybe singstar should have gone there. Life app is going to leave as well, so the network ‘tab’ will only have the browser and search eventually. As for the music and video sections, well they could be merged.

in short, anybody who wanted singstar, has it already and on disc – and they can’t even get rid of their disc because of the tracks on it
– the rest of us don’t want it, yet it was forced onto us

LiquidSolid 24 October, 2012 @ 10:58 am   128

RollingSun2000 24 October, 2012 @ 10:59 am   130

I am just adding my voice to the list of unhappy gamers.
I never had and never will have any intention of playing singstar. I actually feel a little embarassed seeing the icon on my XMB. I’m not one for singing and at no point will I try to use my PS eye (and embarrass myself further) for the sake of a demo. They’re not even the full songs.

Some people here have phrased it nicely (if unintentional in meaning), you have put it above all my other games. In a way you have given a demo priority over everything else I play or own. There is no need to force this kind of advertising on people (especially when it has the potential of missing the mark so horribly). Is it worth annoying the majority for the sake of a few suckers? That is pretty much the same as spam emails for dodgy medication.

JOHNY--BRAVO 24 October, 2012 @ 10:59 am   131

@ nina , usually comments /replys from the blog team are rare but this is a really annoying update and nothing to be proud of, its going to cause a lot of negative feelings towards sony and its direction, you can read here and on psn/sen eu forums about customers thoughts and im sure your sarcasm/failure to understand the customer wont help. please take note of our feedback and present it to your superiors.

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 11:00 am   132

@Nina Scherer I already tried SingStar by my own initiative years ago, thank you. As I already said it’s not my thing, but I tried.

Skykid360 24 October, 2012 @ 11:05 am   135

You could have at least let the people who hate it change the Album Name so it can be put into a Folder…

…Things like this shouldn’t be forced on people, regardless of whether it still needs to be downloaded or not, the fact that it is blatantly there is forcing it on people. Or at least trying to project the idea of “hey, i’m here try me out”.

People like organisation, renaming and organising Folders so stuff can be categorically sorted, this just poo’d on that theory.

@Nina Scherer.

Nina, you seem to be employed by Sony in some capacity. If you have any ounce of human decency then please, I implore you, use whatever influence you might have to MAKE THIS STOP.

It is abundantly clear that none of your customers welcome this travesty, bar a small minority of young children. What may be good news for a very small number of users is in fact a huge irritation to the majority.

Sony’s motives behind this move are also questionable and obviously based on potential revenue from song purchases within this ‘free’ app. Fine. If that’s how Sony want to do it then OK, but this should be a download made available within the store only. It is quite frankly offensive to have this type of marketing imposed on us in such a way.

Until this is rectified then I’m afraid you will continue to alienate many more of your customers. I for one will be seriously considering moving to the XBOX.

I would appreciate a considered response to this Nina, as I believe many of the other users here would do too.

JOHNY--BRAVO 24 October, 2012 @ 11:13 am   139

@nina , let the hate rage campaign begin, im shocked and stunned by your comments/replys and lack of pr skills, perhaps its time for another job.

OK, I wasnt going to say anything… but why are like 90% of people personally insulting Nina? She just posted something is all! And has replied 50 times. Thats a alot for this blog!

I dont like SingStar… but lots of people do. There not on this blog – cause there busy having fun enjoying it probably, lol!

And someone mentioned about having lots of digital titles? You can press a button, square I think, that categorizes everything on your XMB, for example pressing it will sort you digital titles into a Playstation 3 folder, for example, which cleans up the main “game” heading. I think you can even categorize this further. So do that and you wont accidentally hit SingStar! :)

i hope sony will look into it to maybe make a option to hide some things in xmb or remove.

To add on to my previous comment, I mean comments like “time to look for a new job”, are just hurtful and childish. :/

KylieDog 24 October, 2012 @ 11:17 am   143

No offence Nina but clearly the vast majority of people, even the ones who like Singstar, do not like this app forced upon us with no way to move it, delete it, or place it in a folder like every single other game on PS3 allows.

Your sarcastic replies are not really helping anybody and are just making the people who have perfectly valid complaints more annoyed. Doesn’t seem very professional.

Maybe just stick to replying to the people with questions about the Singstar applications use and just pass the negative feedback on to someone who cares to listen to it and heaven forbid, maybe someone capable of addressing the issues so a future firmware can let us move it into a folder or delete it if we wish.

silent_strike95 24 October, 2012 @ 11:18 am   144

@Nina’s reply to FortyPercent

I fail to see how this isn’t a form of advert. You get Singstar with a few song demo’s. You then either need to buy songs from the store to play fully, or have discs of Singstar already in your possession. It’s just sitting there, reminding me of how I am not interested in Singstar, much like how I have no intention of buying 90% of things you see adverts for on TV.

The reason people are annoyed is because of how intrusive this is. I have no intention of buying anything Singstar related. If I did, I would have bought one of the many previous games. Having a free demo is no different, so why force the app onto EVERYONE’S XMB? You should be able to download the app from the PS store which then puts it there, much like how if I download a demo for any game, I can delete it at a later date. It’s then my choice whether to buy the game or not.

Having a big Singstar icon is not my choice. At least move it to the music section.

LiquidSolid 24 October, 2012 @ 11:19 am   145

Personally insulting you? You’re the one posting responses that are condescending and arrogant. Instead of acting like a 5 year old and trying to throw Sony’s CUSTOMERS complaints back in their faces, how about you respond like a mature adult representing an international company and just say something like “your feedback is appreciated, we’ll take it into account”?

The thing is, I’m not specifically targeting you just because it’s Singstar. I’m not interested in Singstar myself, but I’ve defended it in the past because hey, I know that others do enjoy it. In fact, I thought it was a pretty good idea when I first heard about this app. However, placing the app right where everyone HAS to see it is horrible. It would be better placed somewhere where it’s not so obstructive, like the Music or PSN columns.

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 11:21 am   146

“Advertising is a form of communication for marketing and used to encourage or persuade an audience (viewers, readers or listeners; sometimes a specific group) to continue or take some new action.”

Is this not the purpose of the new Singstar icon? If you haven’t put it there to get us to download the app, then for what reason did you force it to the top of all of our download lists? The Singstar icon is advertising no matter how you describe it.

I respect Singstar as a game and I respect it’s developers. I have the utmost respect for anyone involved in game development, and can understand how proud you and anyone involved in Singstar are about it. The Singstar series seems to be a great series of games from what I’ve played and many people I know love it a lot. But that does not stop this icon being a mark on an otherwise clean record Sony has with respectable advertising and clean presentation.

To make this clear, I am not complaining about Singstar. It being free is absolutely great. This complaint is simply the icon and it’s obtrusive placement.

homerjnick 24 October, 2012 @ 11:23 am   147

So we get a forced Singstar icon on the XMB that 90% of PS3 gamers have never played before…why is it not a downloadable app like MUBI etc?

More to the point changing trophy views to be online only so we can view both PS3 and Vita is the bigger mistake…it now takes ages to view your PS3 trophies cos it is online…yeah you can switch it to offline mode but then you cannot see your Vita trophies.

Does Sony ever consult with actual consumers when they make these decisions??? It is simply not what we want.

CasperH01 24 October, 2012 @ 11:25 am   148

While I would have appreciated a possibility to put it in a folder like all the other games, I’m not gonna whine.

But it has to be said: I respect you Nina, you are handling this abuse way better then I would :)

LiquidSolid 24 October, 2012 @ 11:25 am   149

@homerjnick: Press triangle over the Trophy Collection icon and select Offline Mode. You won’t be able to see any Vita trophies but it will be a lot faster.

silent_strike95 24 October, 2012 @ 11:26 am   150

“Posted on 24 October, 2012 at 11:10 am by Nina Scherer
Here you go: No, you won’t. Don’t diss it before you try it. YOU MIGHT ENJOY IT!”

You understand that you’re mocking a potential customer by doing something they specifically asked you not to do? Sure, you gave an answer, but you wouldn’t go into a shop and say “Where is x item?” for the assistant to then say “It’s over there, let me show you. If you weren’t so useless you’d have found it yourself”.

You’re not being very professional.

homerjnick 24 October, 2012 @ 11:27 am   151

@LiquidSolid…yup I know that as I mentioned it in my post…its a stupid system that has fudged two trophy systems together and simply does not work.

One user on the EU Playstation forums reports it took him 27 minutes to view his PS3 trophies after the firmware update.

LiquidSolid 24 October, 2012 @ 11:31 am   152

@homerjnick: Oh, I missed that bit. Yeah, it isn’t that great but I dunno, I still think it’s better than nothing. Personally I just use the trophies option on PS3 to see what I’ve got while in a game and then use to compare to friends and stuff.

Viet-Bong-Army 24 October, 2012 @ 11:32 am   153

Anyone who has complaints about this, and how complaints have been handled should email:

homerjnick 24 October, 2012 @ 11:34 am   154

I think the point is though it is forced…IF I want to view both Vita and PS3 trophies on the PS3 then itr has to do BOTH from the online servers at Sony which can take a while.

If I want to view my PS3 trophies from my harddrive I can like previouis firmware but then cannot view my Vita trophies.

I cannot delete the Singstar icon….

No options for the users to get what they actuslly want. Very VERY poor!

hrusa2cz 24 October, 2012 @ 11:35 am   155

@ 139 spikkle. Sorry but you can NOT can categorize Singstar icon. IT IS STILL THERE All the time. I hate it there.. We dont hate Nina but we hate that icon there and she says that icon there is cool. I think she wouldnt like wrestling icon or whatever on her PS3 under her game collection.
So please let us delete that icon or make that App just Downloadable, PLEASE!!

earlsignet 24 October, 2012 @ 11:37 am   156

I agree that this should be optional and not a forced item on the XMB.

I also cannot believe some of the replies from Nina. It seems quite clear that people don’t want it, some do – but it would have caused far less upset if they accounted for both opinions rather than assuming that because some people play Singstar – it should be a permanent part of what is supposed to be a customisable menu.

Most of these people have complained in a civilised way only to receive what I perceive as an unprofessional and arrogant response from Nina.

It’s a shame you can’t report a contributor on here…

DeividHasselhoff 24 October, 2012 @ 11:39 am   157

This is rediculous. Sure there are numerous comments that are inappropriate but even the appropriate ones get answers like “LAWL IT STAYING THERE F U” “TRY IT IS GOOD ROFLMAO”
I have tried Singstar, its only fun when you are drunk with friends and when you are drunk with friends there are better things to do than playing video games.
Just please give us the option to remove it.
People who want to remove it wont download it anyways and you will not gain any sales from these people. This is only making this demographic frustrated.

Skykid360 24 October, 2012 @ 11:40 am   158

I have to say, personal insults should be avoided, and are wrong….

…but I also have to say, Professionalism 101, when you represent a Huge Company, and a Popular Gaming Franchise and are faced with Angry Consumers, regardless of their reasons one should not antagonise them further with unprofessional replies.

It really is in bad taste and one would expect better judgement, and professionalism.

Some of these replies are anything but.

(this is not an insult, just an observation)

I Still stand by what others have said in regards to the Icon being where it is, as have many.

It should have been a Downloadable App For those that want it, or Like any other Digital Content where one can change the Folder it belongs to. I have no other Grief with it apart from these points. It’s just really illogical.

To me it’s Dirty Advertising, in the sense that they want to get people hooked into it and buy songs, and make it into a “Profit Deal” as Michael Pachter would say.

99% of people Don’t want it , Want the ability to Delete it as it is an eyesore on the XMB , it should be on the store for those who want it and Not Forced on Gamers Who Do Not Want It and Will Never Use It.At least put it under music and Not on Top our Gaming part of the XMB listen to your customers for once and stop turning a great system into a marketing campaign for games that have a very small fan base.

Give us the ability to Delete this garbage that way everyone is happy.

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 11:57 am   161

NightRanma 24 October, 2012 @ 11:58 am   162

So when can we expect the system update that removes this junk from the XMB if we don’t want it? I have to say that I really don’t need Singstar right there in my games list every time I turn my PS3 on.

There are so many better ways you could have done this. Just have the game as a download in the PSN store (which it seems you need to do anyway, so it’s already pointless) then have it treated like say, EVERY SINGLE OTHER GAME ON THE PSN STORE and only have it in your game folder/however you sort digital games if you actually downloaded it.

The only thing this succeeds in doing is shoving another product a lot of people will never want down our throats. Good for you guys, you have a successful game series, but don’t try to force it onto people aren’t interested.

@155: You didnt read it properly. I never said you could categorize the SingStar icon, I said, in response to SOMEONE ELSE saying they had lots of digital titles which can make it annoying having to try and avoid the singstar icon, that by categorizing these digital titles, there are separated from the SingStar one, thus avoiding any accidental-hitting of the SingStar Icon.

Skookie30 24 October, 2012 @ 12:00 pm   164

Oh dear the PR team must be sleeping you lot at on the internet for the wrong reason.

lol :)

@154: I dont have a Vita, so correct me if im wrong.

By going to “offline mode” on the trophy icon, you, as it clearly says, are viewing “trophises stored on THIS SYSTEM”. Online Mode shows you ones stored on the server.

Thats why you cant see your Vita ones on the PS3 Offline Mode option, because there not stored ON the PS3 System, rather there on the Vita system and the server, hence why you can on Online mode.

The only way to see them on the PS3 system is if you were forced to connect your Vita to your PS3 and copy over the trophy data, which as we all agree would be incredibly annoying.

BUT! Lets hope they sought out the ADD FUNDS TO WALLET problem!!
Mine still not working!! NO its NOT my bank or card!!
SONY sought it out please!! i sometimes would like to buy direct from store and not mess about getting PSN cards!!

MordecaiHunter 24 October, 2012 @ 12:03 pm   167

Can we please all take a moment to report Nina Scherer for her arrogant, sarcastic and unprofessional responses to displeased customers here:

stormyuk 24 October, 2012 @ 12:09 pm   170

I agree with lots of the sentiment here from people who have no interest in Singstar, please give us the option to remove it from XMB. Thanks

Erroneus 24 October, 2012 @ 12:09 pm   171

Well this sucks! I don’t want an ad on mu XMB and yes IT IS an add, it’s not a free game, when you have to buy songs to use it. Clearly singstar is loosing popularity and someone at Sony are getting desperate.

If this is a trend Sony are starting, they are going to loose A LOT of customers. That XMB is going to be crowded if we are going to have ads for all Sony games added to our XMB.

Sony you need to fix this now, this is not one of your best moves.

bob_jsus 24 October, 2012 @ 12:10 pm   172

So, honestly, I’ve been in this industry for 20 years and a Sony customer for most of that. The flippant responses on the mostly reasonable and well-informed posts by customers on this page are nothing really skating close to disgraceful in places. I can’t believe there isn’t a single supervisor who would disagree.

I understand fan outrage borders on trolling childishness and can be very frustrating to deal with gracefully and a thick skin is required, but your opt-in strategy on this half-baked push of a half-capable product aimed at a niche market is flawed and broken.

I certainly did not opt in. Singstar arrived on my screen with the latest update. I updated my new PS3, transferred data from my old one, switched on the new one and there is Singstar. It’s right bang in the middle of my games and can’t be filed away. Opt out? No, not allowed. I didn’t even opt-in, yet there it is, all bad stock art and obvious.

Perhaps in light of the sheer amount of pretty reasonable feedback you’re getting swathes of among the inevitable trolls, you might flag this for review.

“It’s not a bug, it’s a feature” hasn’t cut it since the mid nineties.

joushikijin 24 October, 2012 @ 12:10 pm   173

Dear Nina Scherer,
I am appalled at your communication skills, patronizing potential clients and writing in capitol letters. I hope in the interest of Sony that they consider not letting you in direct contact with customers again. You are unsuitable for direct customer contact because you just create negative arousal and anxiety instead of doing your job.

With kind Regards,

Coody-Baroody 24 October, 2012 @ 12:12 pm   174

The Vita Trophy Support on the PS3 i LOVE but this God awful HUUUUGE Singstar emblem thats been forced down our throat each and everytime i look down my Games list on my XMB was a TERRIBLE idea!

Is this game The.Biggest.Selling.Franchise.Of.All.Time?
Does every PS3 owner want this?
Did somebody just forget to tell me?

Why on EARTH did yoy think we wanted this?
Ive been waiting for the Trophy thing since Vita launched, but then they force this on our XMBs!

1 Step forward 3 Back!

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 12:12 pm   175

MordecaiHunter 24 October, 2012 @ 12:16 pm   176

Nina, How on earth are you able to post these replys to Loyal paying ps3 customers is beyond me.

You are looking very un-professional and RUDE !

All People are saying is make a option to remove the icon if people dont want it on there XMB

And no i wont “try it i might like it” Because i have 0% interest in playing a singing game on my ps3

Jacko_the_lad 24 October, 2012 @ 12:18 pm   177

I’m not really a fan of SingStar, but there’s an icon on my XMB that I can’t remove? What do I do now?

Oh, I know! Ignore it and get on with my life!

Well, that was easy.

I love the fact Nina is sarcastically replying to all the whiners here. She should answer questions on all the blog posts. 😛

RollingSun2000 24 October, 2012 @ 12:20 pm   178

I am now concerned about how my previous comment may look. Just so I am clear, my problem is not Nina. My problem is Sony or the powers-that-be that thought it was a smart advertising move to force an eye-catching (and to me, embarrassing) app icon onto our XMB.

Nina should have taken a quieter stance when the negative comments started to roll in instead of trying to deflect them with humour. There is such a thing as being too sarcastic. The angry comments about the app are not (or should not be) personally directed at her. Unfortunately with many, she is the messenger that is getting shot. I’m assuming that as content manager, she didn’t have much to do with the addition of the app, or rather I hope not.
I understand that Nina is doing the best she can (and I don’t like taking about you like you’re not here). Her job was to basically post this blog. I doubt damage control was part of the job discription.

I wonder if they knew in the office that this was going to look pretty bad with the core users and decided to draw straws – meaning poor Nina pulled the shortest.

@Nina, have a nice day. Sincerely. It can only get better, right?

This idea is horrible. At least allow me to categorise it into a folder of junk.

carlosdfn 24 October, 2012 @ 12:23 pm   180

So I just realized that after installing the latest firmware a singstar icon that I apparently can’t remove is sitting among my list of games. I come here thinking that I’m probably missing something and that sony couldn’t possibly have put a permanent singstar icon on my menu and lo and behold, I find someone from the blog’s staff making fun of the people who are complaining and have every right to do so.
What the hell is going on here?

BiosNova 24 October, 2012 @ 12:23 pm   181

I don’t want this icon stuck on top of all my games. This is obviously a way to desperately try to draw people back to a failing franchise. This is too far and too pathetic. Remove the icon.

Jacko_The_Lad, I agree!

Whats more, some people say Nina is being sarcastic and unprofessional to the “largely valid and reasonable” commentators.

To be honest, most of the comments here are NOT that, there personally insulting to Nina.

Nina is matching everyones sarcastic comments with her own, and the more offensive ones like “get a new job” and the like are being met with what, for the original commentators, must be an annoyingly calm ” I’ll get right on that, thank you”.

Most people here LOST the moral high ground, lost there credibility and validity when they descended to personal jibes and insults.

Coody-Baroody 24 October, 2012 @ 12:24 pm   183

@ Jacko_the_lad

By that reckoning it doesnt matter what ANY company you pay hundreds maybe even THOUSANDS of pounds to do to your product you have paid for and then be answered in a rude sarcastic fashion.

Your every big companys wet dream of a customer, somebody who will just suck it up and not complain.

You can just ignore it and get on with your life eh?

Well, your right, that was Easy.

Oh, and NO, Pepe do not have the right to COMPLAIN, they have the right to present there opinion, whatever it may be, and nothing more.

i dont even have this on my xmb after update ,has something gone wrong?

Coody-Baroody 24 October, 2012 @ 12:26 pm   186

All you people who are saying we are complaining about nothing and that You arent bothered?

Dont fool yourself…..

YOU are the Minority.

x_skurvy_x 24 October, 2012 @ 12:27 pm   187

I think some of the sarcastic comments received back to us ‘consumers’ who to be frankly fair keep people like you in a job is a disgrace.

I never normally comment anything and would of just ignored my new icon but your attitude is a disgrace to people who are loyal ps3 fans.

I hate the icon and the game but it doesnt effect my everyday use of my console but your attitude back to us could.

Jacko_the_lad 24 October, 2012 @ 12:28 pm   188

Yes, Coody. I can ignore an ICON ON A MENU and get on with my life.

Seriously. It’s nothing to get worked up over.

If they were forcing us all to play it, I could see the problem.

Coody-Baroody 24 October, 2012 @ 12:28 pm   189

OF COURSE ive got the right to complain. This si a free country last time i checked. A country where I have paid MONEY for my product so have the RIGHT to complain about ANYTHING i choose.

What a douch.

BEYOND-14 24 October, 2012 @ 12:29 pm   190

Please read. *No one seems to understand the complaints.*

We are happy with this. Free SingStar? Cool. Thank you. We ARE grateful. The problem…forcing it on us. We can’t move it. We can’t delete it. It’s always going to be right there. To those who don’t wish to play SingStar, it’s going to be insanely annoying. Trust me.

Please. Nina, *Aleast* tell someone to move it to the MUSIC section of the XMB.

BiosNova 24 October, 2012 @ 12:29 pm   191

Wow I’m shocked by the comment replies! I really think Nina needs a lesson in PR. WE DO NOT WANT THE ICON THERE, understand that.

Coody-Baroody 24 October, 2012 @ 12:30 pm   192

It may not be something to get worked up over, you are right.
But we are perectly in our rights to complain if we dont like it and NOT be subjected to rude and sarcastic answers.

I want the option to remove this junk from my system

i dont understand why to put a game in your xmb in futre to get to your game you want to play you have to scroll down true 100 sony games first…

Dark-Twisted 24 October, 2012 @ 12:31 pm   195

Wow, offensive much? I’m upset you’re forcing advertising bloatware above the games I pay for. Yes pleased, FYI my “moderated” comment was already moderated by myself. One word was an acronym and the other word is very mildly offensive, a word you’d hear in PG movies these days, that I censored myself.

Disgusting, I understand you’re trying to be funny, but 1) you’re being disrespectful to the consumer, and 2) the complaint is not about free stuff (yay free stuff!), the complaint is about your adverising being higher prioritised than my purchased content. It’s about “ethic”.

@189: Its an icon on a menu. Like i said, organize the rest of your digital titles, on my XMB I have very little under the “game” heading, it is SO easy to simple organize everything else, and the icon doesnt get in my way at all.

You have the right to your opinion, WHICH YOU CAN EXPRESS VIA COMPLAINING, but NO ONE has the right, and I dont mean you here because you haven’t, to personally insult someone just because they dont it.

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 12:33 pm   197

Yes, we could ignore. Or, we could expect a high standard of presentation from Sony, instead of cheap advertising forced into our faces.

Yes, it’s a small thing, but it’s a small and annoying thing that a lot of people dislike. It shouldn’t happen in the first place.

Coody-Baroody 24 October, 2012 @ 12:36 pm   198

Thats just it though mate, we are not able to organze this icon. Its stays above and apart from all other folders. Its not really just the icon, its the sad as pump image of 2 X Factor wannabes that FILLS the screen when you scroll on it.

Plus the fact its FORCED on us.

I love how being say “forced in out faces” like the icon is bigger than the others, or like its under heading in on the XMB, its easy to ignore. “High standard of presentation”? ITS A BLOODY ICON ON A MENU FOR GOD SAKE! Get of your high horse and get on with your lives.

For heavens sake, it isnt worth all this, guys!

Brodiesan 24 October, 2012 @ 12:36 pm   200

It will not be moved – at least not in the short term. It’s there to catch the masses who stumble upon it, see that it’s free, and end up buying songs. Simple.

This is a business tactic, plain and simple. The fact that a few disgruntled die-hard fans on a blog are upset about it means absolutely nothing to SCEE in the grander scale of things.

This decision will generate revenue. That’s a no-brainer. And for that reason alone, the icon WILL NOT MOVE, as Nina has so eloquently put it.

I suppose when this new SingStar revenue stream dries up (i.e. anyone who might have been interested has tasted and has decided they will or will not purchase content) they might move it. Not until then, though. Not until then.

@198: Your right, but EVERYTHING else can be! So put them nicely in there own place, and leave the singstar icon to sit lonely! The stupid picture than fills the screen can be avoided by not lingering on the SingStaa icon, which everyone who hates it will avoid doing anyway.

Nina Scherer 24 October, 2012 @ 12:37 pm   202

Thanks to all of you for your comments. Apologies to anyone who felt my responses were inappropriate. It certainly wasn’t my intention to cause any offence! We will definitely take all of your feedback on board.

We’re all really proud of SingStar, and hope that you can all enjoy it with us in the future.

Jacko_the_lad 24 October, 2012 @ 12:37 pm   203

Apologies if I’ve got this wrong, but I’m sure somewhere in the T&C’s it says that Sony can add or remove features from the PS3 whenever they like.

So basically, you already agreed to this by installing the latest firmware.

Oh, and the absolute best part? Try starting up your PS3 without a disc inserted. SINGSTAR RIGHT IN YOUR FACE. This is just horrible placement, making it the default option when you start. Was this intentional? Because I’m finding it hard to believe at this point that Sony isn’t making a point of trying to make people hate them.

Nina +1 like . Fair play for addressing so many comments.

Icon-gate rumbles on I suspect

Vashetti 24 October, 2012 @ 12:45 pm   209

If you do a google search for “PS3 4.30 singstar” you will find the overall response to be wholly negative, with the majority asking how to remove it.

You don’t build up good-will with customers by forcing applications on them, especially in the most used section (Game) of the console.

If the application was available to download from the store (optional) and not a garish icon stuck in the most irritating place, I guarantee you the reception would be far more positive.

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 12:46 pm   210

Excuse me for appreciating the fact Sony usually understands what a nice main menu should look like, and complaining when they do something to get in the way of it.

You may not care, but as someone who uses my PS3 regularly and that doesn’t want to have to see adverts – that being one of the major reasons I bought a PS3 – it bothers me.

Due to being being barraged with “Sign up to an EA account” to play EA games online, I stopped buying EA games. Simply put, I don’t want to be forced to do or see other things when I’ve already had to pay for my product in the first place. Similarly, I rarely buy Capcom games because they tell you to buy DLC on start up.

Considering I am a paying customer and I don’t like the way they’ve forced a particular thing onto my product, I have every right to complain about it.

I will ‘get on with my life’, in fact, I’m doing various things right now. That doesn’t mean I can’t also have an opinion and state it.

Dark-Twisted 24 October, 2012 @ 12:47 pm   211

I think people saying it’s an over-exaggeration are missing the point.

The icon is bad ethic, it’s advertising that I have to scroll past to get to my games. I don’t like that and I have every reason not to. Not trying to offend anyone (although the snarky response did offend me).

IrishViper 24 October, 2012 @ 12:49 pm   212

Why was my comment removed ? Was it because I stated that if you don’t remove this garbage from my XMb that I would remove it myself ? Or that I have canceled per-ordered games for the PS3 in favour of my 360 over this ?

haha, this is so funny.

Nina – Top work, i loved your responses to babies crying about the smallest thing. Following the comments from both said was a good 10 mins of lol fun.

Basically lets be honest, everyone complains when the poster doesn’t reply to comments, everyone complains when they do. 67 million people have a PS3 and we have about 40 people on this thread that don’t seem to be able to understand that the PS3 is for everyone, not just the hardcore game fan.

lighten up, go out, have a coffee, go for a run, let off some steam whatever it takes, one day you will get over it.

And again Nina – good work on trying to make some nasty comments a bit more light hearted.

Lilja4Ever 24 October, 2012 @ 12:50 pm   214

Thanks for taking your time to respond and having a sense of humour. Cool to have another option on the PS3.

@FortyPerfect: Fair enough, to be honest you havent been offensive and made personal insults, which is the main thing I object to. I dont disagree with your points, I just dont think it matters as much. I use my PS3 regulary too. :)

And Jacko said it, in the T&C’s im sure it says Sony can add or remove icons/features etc as they wish, and all of us agreed to it.

F1NG3RZ- 24 October, 2012 @ 12:51 pm   216

The only way i could possibly think of even contemplating using this is trolling a very drunk friend into making themselves look a muppet… then hitting the upload button on the sly!! O.o move it to music at least please it offends me -_-

colbaker27 24 October, 2012 @ 12:52 pm   217

Well this has to be the most pathetic thread I have read in a long time and the only thing currently forcing my hand for the next gen is the immaturity with the so call PS fans – I could understand this if it was on some 360 site! Some of you are 28 and over?!?

“you put an extra icon on my PS3 – OMG World ends!”

Get a grip – keep up the good work Nina – need more like you around.

JOHNY--BRAVO 24 October, 2012 @ 12:52 pm   218

pleased you joined us jacko as you can see your in the minority and im pleased Nina Scherer has stopped responding her sarcasm has not been welcomed by many users as you can see, i find it mature to listen to everyones opinion but if the majority dont want it sony should remove it, or at least give us the option to remove it, its that simple.

Maniak_Medic 24 October, 2012 @ 12:54 pm   219

@ Vashetti, totally agree.
You (I, at least) expect this kind of tactic from Microsoft, not Sony. It was my opinion that the PS3 attracted more active gamers, with this forced icon located in the place it is, I may have to reconsider.

Even located at the bottom of your game list would be a damn sight better than 1st thing you see when navigating into Game.
If you, Sony, want it to be displayed permanently stick it in the What’s New area… Would be far less irritating to your more loyal demographic, no?

gabba-mouth 24 October, 2012 @ 12:55 pm   220

what about the people who hate the game, why dont we get an option to delete the dammned thing???? X(

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 12:55 pm   221

@nina Most of the people here have absolutely no problem with SingStar itself and I understand you’re proud of it since it delivers what it’s meant to. It’s nice to have all kinds of games available.
What is nicer is having the choice of what we want to play. And here it surely doesn’t feel as we have the choice since this icon can’t move…
I won’t download it, like ever, and I’d like to play my games without having the impression that I have to watch an add before.
First this, then what ? Will I have to watch 20 seconds of a Coca-Cola add before being able to play ? Decency, please.
Move this thing or let me erase it once it’s been quite clear that I don’t want it and don’t intend to download it.

IrishViper 24 October, 2012 @ 12:57 pm   222

@colbaker27 it’s Not the fact there is a new icon it’s where it is , it is large and gets in the way and is at the end of the day an add for a game with a tiny fan base, all people are asking for is the ability to remove it , an option which should already have been provided.

ianureeves 24 October, 2012 @ 12:57 pm   223

@Nina. I’m sorry but your half arsed apology isn’t really good enough. You’ve succeeded in offending most people on here with your condescending and patronising responses.

I’d would like a proper answer, conducted in the manner of an adult to my earlier question. Refer to post 138.

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 12:57 pm   224

Nobody is saying the world is ending. They are complaining about an icon. Is it important? No, It’s easy to just skip it. But it’s also something people dislike and are bothered by. Surely we are allowed to complain when we dislike and are bothered by an aspect of a product we have paid for?

ChemicalBacon90 24 October, 2012 @ 12:58 pm   225

Hey Nina, can you provide an address so I can send you some of my crap too?
You never know, you might enjoy it. :)

Noodlesaurus 24 October, 2012 @ 1:01 pm   226

“We will definitely take all of your feedback on board”

Really? Because in your very own words, we will apparently

“have to whine for a looong while then, I guess.”

“No, you won’t. Don’t diss it before you try it. YOU MIGHT ENJOY IT!”

Absolute train wreck in your public relations here. Worst i’ve seen in a long time.
I’d advise everyone to vent their frustration in as many mediums as possible, phone Sony, email and go to the gaming journalism sites like kotaku and joystiq and get them talking about it. If we can show Sony that we ARE the majority and we merely want the Singstar icon to be an optional download just like all the other “free” games like Freerealms then we can nip this thing in the bud.

We’re not asking for it to be deleted from the store, we merely want the option to hide it.

Vashetti 24 October, 2012 @ 1:01 pm   227

Brilliant. Chuckling away to myself here.

BenchyUK 24 October, 2012 @ 1:01 pm   228

Had to sign I and say Nina is a legend for sticking it to these geeks who’s main life issues s having a Singstar icon on the playstation 3’s. some people really need to get a life

Ahaha, may as well jump on the band wagon here and have my 2 pennies worth!

Nina, are you just deliberately trying to rial your customers?
I mean its kinda nice to see someone being so upfront for a change, however do you you think its a smart move on your part, on behalf of Sony?

I guess you’ll be able to discuss more down the job centre with these lot come doll day ey!

On a serious note though Nina, maybe you should er, try another industry you aint much of a peoples person are you.
Then again maybe that is why your sitting behind a screen on behalf of Sony!

So you see we can all try your approach, but what does it say about you?! Pretty sad really

Jacko_the_lad 24 October, 2012 @ 1:04 pm   230

Her sarcastic replies are offensive but it’s perfectly fine for you to tell her to “get a new job”?

SCEE are really putting off their customer base. Next Gen a lot of us will go to Microsofts offering, getting most games and DLC early, and the customer is listened to!

Ouch. That’s a really harsh reply to BryceS at number 43. All he did was say he doesn’t understand why the terms between SME and SCE seem to be more restrictive than those between SME nad Microsoft (not criticise you for it), then suggest a feature and ask if you planned to implement it.

Surprising considering how friendly/helpful your other responses have been!

Great more crap I don’t want forced upon me.

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 1:05 pm   234

Again, I have to say. Why does complaining about something instantly mean someone a ‘geek’ with ‘no life’?

I dislike something minor, and I am commenting on it. Excuse me if that is offensive to you.

dogwalker4000 24 October, 2012 @ 1:06 pm   235

Thanks for an enjoyable morning Nina…nice comments too 😛

I hope some of you guys learn to chill out soon, all this over an icon? Yes its inconvenient and yes you didn’t ask for it but really, how long do you people spend on the XMB before you select what you wanna do? My PS3 is on the majority of the time I am home and this doesn’t change anything for me (and no I never owed Singstar on PS3 before), I’ll simply select something else from my screen.

People are complaining about Nina and her comments but I don’t see a rushing of complaints when multiple users are being jokey and sarcastic. Yes she is supposed to be a professional but its about time the shoe was on the other foot.

I’m imagining the rest of the blog team are celebrating her feats today and I font blame them if they are.

LiquidSolid 24 October, 2012 @ 1:06 pm   236

Thank you for the far more reasonable response, Nina. I hope you’ve taken this as a learning experience instead of as a personal insult.

I agree with the masses, we should have been given the option rather than forcing it on us. You’re having a bad time of it lately Sony, have you stopped to wonder why?

dogwalker4000 24 October, 2012 @ 1:10 pm   238

Auto correct fail.

THC_steve_0 24 October, 2012 @ 1:11 pm   239

i want singstar removed from MY console that I brought with MY money as i do not want nor ever plan on having it, how dare you assume you can force things on me, i do not want to bee greeted by a stupid splash screen and cheesy music everytime i switch on my ps3, who ever thought this would be a good idea should be stripped naked and mate to run through a nettle field!!!

boogedy_bones 24 October, 2012 @ 1:13 pm   240

How do I remove Singstar from my XMB? I do not want to use Singstar. I played a game from disc earlier today and when I quit and removed the disc, the entire TV-screen showed Singstar with a blue background. I do not want to see that ever again. So, how do I remove it?

BenchyUK 24 October, 2012 @ 1:14 pm   241

FortyPercent, ok, maybe a bit too far to call you all geeks but in terms on 1st world issues where people are struggling to pay the bills, energy prices are going up ect it just makes me laugh when people get so upset about a singstar icon on their XMB

Noodlesaurus 24 October, 2012 @ 1:14 pm   242

I think most rationally minded people are allowed to be a little miffed when a change comes to something they purchased – one that bars you from online play and purchasing games off the store if you decline the update. Yes i know its in the terms of service but cmon, they have a hide/delete option for other “free” services like Mubi and we dont seem to have had Freerealms or that other MMO plastered on our game xmb.

99% of the “complainers” here would disappear if they only made this veiled attempt at advertising optional. They’ve done it before, why not now?

BEYOND-14 24 October, 2012 @ 1:15 pm   243

Great ! It never mentioned that Singstar Logo would sit at the top of my D/Loaded games list BEFORE I installed the compulsory update ! As far as im concerned its Dog Poo ! so is the new store and the fact that a lot of downloaded games are corrupt . Ive Formatted my HDD this morning and dont know if i will ever bother with it again . Stupid and idiotic rubbish to force onto our XMB .Go poke it !

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 1:17 pm   246

I don’t see how those problems are related. We all have big problems, yes, but that doesn’t mean small things don’t also annoy us a little. I’m a person just like you or anyone else here, and I’m making a complaint. That’s all.

Can we stop with all the “1st world issues”. People here are trying to voice their opinions, and seeing as it gaming orientated blog, people are going to discuss, and as a result, have divergent opinions about gaming – not global warming, politics and inequality.

By all means, lead by example and go out and donate 50% of your earnings to various charities and research initiatives. Perhaps then us “no-lifers” will be “inspired” and quit complaining.

BenchyUK 24 October, 2012 @ 1:22 pm   251

I don’t like having the Lovefilm app constantly on my XMB but does it affect me, no, I just pass it. I really don’t get people’s issues

Wingman-Slayde 24 October, 2012 @ 1:22 pm   252

My two-cents: It is unwanted and butt-ugly icon that I have to be careful not to select EVERY time I pick a game from the list, not to mention it is also really, really embarrassing to have there, since Singstar is pure digital [DELETED] and vomit and I don’t want that crap anywhere near my PS3. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was hidden on the end of the list or something or if there was an option to hide it.

Dear Sony, could you please, move that damn Singstar ad somewhere else. I don’t even have microphones nor any interest in that game. Put it in MUSIC or at least a couple of notches higher where it’s now, because currently the icon blends in with my actual games.

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 1:23 pm   254

Interesting to see how some companies deal with complaints, especially at a time when people are already starting to consider their Next Gen. purchases.

I can live with the icon, not a big deal for me.

Skookie30 24 October, 2012 @ 1:30 pm   260

*give it a go

Have you guys put up the Singstar trophies server side yet?

I’m getting a trophy syncing error every time I manually sync which is making offline mode try to sync every time after I installed and used Singstar, the error code seems to lead to a number of problems where games trophies don’t exist server side or something.

Any help?

Der_Pate 24 October, 2012 @ 1:30 pm   262

Please give us an option to remove the singstar icon! It looks horrible and the way it is placed is quite annoying!!!

FortyPercent 24 October, 2012 @ 1:30 pm   263

Pretty sure this is a PlayStation related blog, for discussion of PlayStation related things. If we have complaints, surely we come here? I don’t come here for discussion of any major life problems I have, and neither do you. Enough with the “First world problems” nonsense. We get it, it’s not that big of a deal, but some people dislike it, they are allowed to complain.

THC_steve_0 24 October, 2012 @ 1:31 pm   264

the woman got straight to the point lol she said the emails are flooding in and its being looked into adding the option to remove in the next update,

i would be happy if when it installed it went into the ps3 folder then got lost at the bottom of the pile, nice try $ony but no cigar we aint gonna buy your singstar crap when the discs are now in the 99p bins,

i suggest everyone keep complianing till they sort it,

i cant beleive the stopped folding which could have been used to research other things and embedded singstar into the firmware thats why it cant be deleted cause its part of the firmware lol, this is what happens when you hold a competition on cbeebies to design a firmware update lol

NightRanma 24 October, 2012 @ 1:32 pm   265

@ THC_steve_0
I would bet real Earth money that they are just saying that to get you off the line.

To add to my post (255) it definitely seems to be you’re guys end with the trophy syncing, using Online trophy mode shows all my trophies on the network/PS3/Vita besides the Singstar ones.

Please sort this out, lol.

Noodlesaurus 24 October, 2012 @ 1:40 pm   267

Tell me about it, we lose folding@home and gain mandatory Singstar? Stuff like folding really differentiated the PS3 from the competition. Hell, it made me proud to have one, and to be able to contribute to something as big as that.

I like Sony, but what with the changes across the console market these days, by the time the next gen hits i think ill be a PC gamer.

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 1:43 pm   268

tip = al songs free then i wil start to sing ( maybi )

+1 disappointed person.
what was wrong with the idea of making singstar available in store for free? anybody wants it – downloads and installs and gets it under game section. everybody would be happy. i wouldn’t mind having singstar advertisement “box” on store main page permanently so that nobody can’t accidentally miss it.

As a customer support manager, I can honestly say your attitude is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Not everyone wants your product. It’s been forced on customers and they’re upset. Your comments of “Try it! You may like it!” and “Tough luck! It’s not going away” paired with your general patronising attitude makes you look like a bratty college student. I don’t agree with the comments of some others either, but all you’re doing is adding more negativity to an already negative situation.

You could have salvaged the situation. You could have just said you were looking into it like it took you nearly 50 comments to say. Instead you sat up on a high horse and made jokes at upset customers. If you can’t handle people not liking your product, get out of customer service. Your skin is too thin for it.

Viet-Bong-Army 24 October, 2012 @ 1:46 pm   271

I am utterly disappointed in the way this was handled, and the ‘apology’ does nothing but anger me at the thought process behind the original comments.

I hope Sony sort this situation out quickly, and that the next PS3 update removes Singstar.

Shame on you Sony for your blatant profiteering.

THC_steve_0 24 October, 2012 @ 1:48 pm   272

Steiner84 24 October, 2012 @ 1:50 pm   273

actualy those are the kind of things that make me avoid the xbox.
Just sad that sony now starts with the same kind of [DELETED]

@ People saying “First world problems hurr hurr”

Grow up. These people didn’t WANT Singstar in the first place, or they could have went and bought it. To have an immoveable icon dumped right in the area of highest traffic on the XMB was a cheap tactic, and one anyone with sense would have seen would generate problems.

This attitude of “There’s people starving in the world!” is childish. Problems are subjective. Some people find that this is a major issue for them. They’re entitled to their opinion. Just because there’s someone starving a continent away doesn’t make your opinion more valid than theirs.

If you feel this isn’t an issue, great! That doesn’t give you permission to downplay other people being upset. How about you try and empathise with people who are upset now so that they’ll do the same for you when the tables are turned later?

ThePGtipsy 24 October, 2012 @ 1:53 pm   275

I understand that you may have a deal with Singstar to have provided such an app in this firmware, and you would still be honouring that even if you gave us an option to remove it, which would please many of us in this thread

I don’t want to be rude, but would we please have the ability to delete aforementioned icon?

THC_steve_o ” this is what happens when you hold a competition on cbeebies to design a firmware update” Love it :)

dark_angel69 24 October, 2012 @ 1:54 pm   277

BOOOOO!! forgive me for swearing but take that s**t off!!! I have no interest in this and i don’t want it on my XMB. Could have at least put it on store to allow people download it if they want it. This is just bull..

Bilbo_bobbins 24 October, 2012 @ 1:57 pm   279

I thought I would chip in too, since I’m a so so happy Sony customer.

Nina, unfortunately most people don’t want an extra icon on their XMB, get over it and talk about it within Sony to remove it or give people the option to remove it.

Secondly, as much as I believe your job is very hard replying to the plenty of morons on here, your response to a few is well below the standard Sony should be portraying, especially since Sony have a very poor record of communicating with their European customers.

I really do think Sony need to pull up their socks and start giving us a decent response to many customers complaints.

SharkySharkdog 24 October, 2012 @ 1:57 pm   280

Just updated my ps3 en the first thing I did was Google how to remove the annoying singstar icon on the XMB. I think it’s pretty indecent to force me to have a game installed I will never use. I’ve spend quite a lot of money on the system and games, that means I like to have some control over what’s on my system and what’s not.
I really really hope it’s gone in the next update.

clinodactyl 24 October, 2012 @ 1:58 pm   281

Dear Nina Scherer,

I disapprove of having icons forced onto my PS3 without my consent. I have no problem with you offering the free download of your base game, but giving it as an unmoveable and undeletable icon to sit right in front of the games I actually want to play is taking it a bit far, especially when taking into consideration that I have no microphone or other audio input device. I highly doubt you’ll be sending those out for free. Considering Singstar is an atrocious waste of time and a shockingly poor excuse for a game, there really is no excuse for what you’ve done.

You really do have the most monstrous arrogance. I am honestly disgusted by you, and this forced presence of the Singstar icon is the worst kind of hard sell I have ever seen. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to violate some kind of trading standards law. Your motives and reasons for doing this are despicable, nothing more than a coercive attempt to wring money from consumers. You should be ashamed of yourself.

If you had any decency you would at least give the option to remove your eyesore of an icon from those who have no interest in your idle game or your shameless money grabbing.

I really don’t want to have a trolling rant over this.

Meanwhile, I don’t like Singstar, and just seeing the logo on my XMB doesn’t exactly make me smile.
i like customizing my XMB with themes, categorizing games etc, making it into my own little ‘den’ so to speak.
When something new and mandatory like this pops up, it feels like someone comes into my private sphere and moves things about.
This particular item feels like a really, really ugly lamp that’s bolted to the middle of the room, that I have to maneuver around each time I walk through my own place.

I guess envoking a feeling of violated personal sphere is not what you guys were aiming at, but that’s what it did for this customer.

Ironically I actually was going to give SingStar a try. Now? After how rudely we’ve been treated? Not on your life.

Unfortunately, Ms. Scherer, though I respect your right to respond to overly aggressive comments how you see fit, your lack of professional decorum dealing with obviously disgruntled customers has completely turned me off your product.

When someone says they don’t like something, telling them to “try it!” is grossly condescending. No. I’ve never tried to wrestle a goat either but I’m sure I wouldn’t like it.

Please respect people’s opinions that are different to your own. The safest reaction would be to ignore comments you don’t like. After all, that’s pretty much par for the course around these parts.

Mono_Cosmonauta 24 October, 2012 @ 2:14 pm   292

Remove it, it looks vey ugly. I am very dissapointed with Sony for this.

BalticBlues 24 October, 2012 @ 2:16 pm   293

My underage children now receive a FULLSCREEN SINGSTAR AD each time they boot their PS3. Marketing people call such advertising “PENETRATING”, I call it ABUSE.

The responsible people should be fired or goto JAIL.

BeardyBrave 24 October, 2012 @ 2:17 pm   294

This is very nice and all, but why on earth can’t I delete it like then other apps in the XMB. I don’t want my 7 year old pestering me for songs. I can only imagine that’s the reasoning behind disallowing the delete option, which is pretty obnoxious IMO.

stuthorr 24 October, 2012 @ 2:17 pm   295

It’s disgusting. Remove it!

mrdaniel1976 24 October, 2012 @ 2:18 pm   296

HELP!! I updated the latest 4.30 update. My Trophies have moved to the new location but SingStar is absolutely nowhere to be found anywhere on my XMB. I’m not sure if it is relevant……. but shortly after the update my PS3 froze and crashed twice within 5 mins. My console seems to be working fine now but i’m wondering if the SingStar app got lost along the way!

@ Nina Scherer

I do commend you on your activity in this post, it’s good to see such engagement. I think you came with a light hearted approach and unfortunately that doesn’t always go down well when people are annoyed at the matter in hand. I personally had no problem with you :)

@ everyone

I have created a discussion topic and poll in the PS Forum as I believe it will be a good idea to offer genuine feedback from everyone. The icon is clearly an issue for a lot of people so it would be good to see where this goes.
Please vote in the poll if you have an opinion either way :)

supersmith2500 24 October, 2012 @ 2:20 pm   298

Seriously, all of those complaints for just having a icon on the XMB. Sad.

dark_angel69 24 October, 2012 @ 2:20 pm   299

You are sooooooo lucky hi for not getting it. I don’t even want this SingStar app. We should swap PS3

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 2:21 pm   300

@ mrdaniel1976 Consider yourself lucky then :)

JokerDAndrew 24 October, 2012 @ 2:22 pm   301

Like most people here I’m also not pleased with the Singstar on my xmb…. at the most it SHOULD have said in the update it comes with Singstar, update this asap! as you can see their are MANY and MANY unhappy customers and many more to come.

clinodactyl 24 October, 2012 @ 2:22 pm   302

@ mrdaniel1976

Clearly you’re one of the lucky ones!

worst thing ever.
Just horrible

JOHNY--BRAVO 24 October, 2012 @ 2:24 pm   305

@ stuthorr i think im right in guessing you want it removed right? , only kidding we get the picture, unfortunately the icon too !

jason1971 24 October, 2012 @ 2:29 pm   306

i think its a wonderful idea to play singstar from the xmb good work nina

Microsoft must be crying with laughter right now

AnimaOnline 24 October, 2012 @ 2:31 pm   308

Come on, SCE, this is just silly. I can understand if the addition of the SingStar icon under Game was temporary to try and better market the game but as a permanent addition like I assume it is it’s just daft.

I have huge respect for the developers of SingStar and I wish them the best of luck with this new version but the game doesn’t interest me in the least so I don’t understand why I’m forced to have the icon at the top of my games list. Give me an option to hide it or move it to somewhere a little less in-your-face. Keeping it there is just down right inconsiderate to the gamers who don’t give a hoot about karaoke.

clinodactyl 24 October, 2012 @ 2:31 pm   309

I like how it says *Report Abuse to a Moderator* under ever post. How do I report Nina Scherer’s abuse of my XMB to a moderator?

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 2:32 pm   310

very simpel i go turn option play games auto onn
so i not need to see ugly xmb

u suport little big planet ???
i to = so give me option to created like the game mi own xmb + id card whithout icoons i not need !

Just like to add that I am not keen on the icon.

I think it’s fair enough to put the icon there by default so that as many people as possible can learn about singstar and that you can now install it straight from the xmb but for those like me who will not ever play it I would greatly prefer an option to hide the icon and keep things a bit less cluttered.

That being said some of the ways people have shown their dislike isn’t very nice, it is possible to complain agaisnt something and still be civil.

probely nina did nothing only a guy at sony to check how people will use it if it will be positive there will come more sony games in our xmb

boogedy_bones 24 October, 2012 @ 2:36 pm   313

@damienmcnugget #287

Thank you, you just made one of the best posts in this discussion and I aggree with you 100%.

Also, it seems many doesn’t understand that it’s not ONLY AN ICON. The full Singstar graphic pops up whenever you eject a disc, and even when you turn on the console!

animal338 24 October, 2012 @ 2:36 pm   314

when is the next update so it can be removed

chrisboers 24 October, 2012 @ 2:37 pm   315

For everyone wanting to provide feedback. You can now do so on the Forum:
or (same link, but without the space in the link this blog keeps adding)
The responses are collected by Sony staff.

Tridentmorph 24 October, 2012 @ 2:44 pm   316

Disappointed with this frankly annoyingly positioned icon.

Surely under main music tab, moveable to the games folders, or even let us choose if we actually want it would have been better options.

I understand marketing but it appears to be another sign Sony doesn’t understand its customer base any more.

Jambam70 24 October, 2012 @ 2:44 pm   317

As an avid PS3/PSN user, it’s very important to me that I have a tidy XMB. I don’t want to see icons that I will never use. I understand you wanting to ‘push’ Singstar on me, but why refuse me the option of deleting the icon? Every time I go to play a game it’s going to ‘boil my urine’. I want, no, NEED control over my XMB, this is a perfectly reasonable expectation. Please make the Singstar icon (all icons) deletable, why on earth wouldn’t you?

@Nina Scherer I feel kind of responsible for this shovelware stuff that is going on. I use to love to play SingStar but when content got old and the updates where poor and the music got out of touch and I stopped buying songs. I was responsible (partly) for putting bread on your plate and now you answer questions with a attitude I realy don’t like. It’s rude to force something on to customers and take away the freedom to delete it. Your answers show you don’t care. Thats very disapointing and I prommis I’ll never ever buy stuff Sony London has made.

komori_kiri 24 October, 2012 @ 2:46 pm   319

Please remove this unwanted fa**otry out of my PS3.

Sincerely yours,

JokerDAndrew 24 October, 2012 @ 2:47 pm   320

With this update maybe its time to move over xbox

Omegabug2003 24 October, 2012 @ 2:49 pm   321

I want that Singstar icon removed/hidden or moved to the music tab – I do not play/sing or will ever play/sing Singstar.

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 2:49 pm   322

Or Steam…

kieranmarsh 24 October, 2012 @ 2:52 pm   323

i have no microphone/eye/headset, as i have no option to remove/move/hide this icon, will you be sending us all a headset/eye/microphone? can i have your email address? so i can send you my home address

i have absolutely no interest in singing (to my tv or otherwise)

lardteamaker 24 October, 2012 @ 2:52 pm   324

Hmmmm well i feel left out as after updating, no singstar icon on my xmb.

sympozium_666 24 October, 2012 @ 2:55 pm   325

When is Singstar getting any song that as Fabio Lione in it since he’s the best singer ever made or something..

IrishViper 24 October, 2012 @ 2:55 pm   326

I think that more icons like this need to be added on the top of the gaming part of the ps3 as I love free adds and I keep and save all of my other spam on my external hdd is there a way to copy this singstar add over to my pc so I can make a copy of it and keep it safely with my other spam collection.Thank You.

I don’t want to easily play my games on my ps3 I like having a bit of an adventure to get to where the games are.

Thank You Sony and Singstar Please keep up the good work.

Ps Would it be possible to have a dancestar add added just above the singstar one Please.

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 2:57 pm   327

DrFred79 24 October, 2012 @ 3:02 pm   329

We don’t need no… SingStar icon
Sony leave them gamers ‘lone
Hey ! SONY ! Leave them gamers ”lone
All in all it’s just a…nother add on your wall.

THC_steve_0 24 October, 2012 @ 3:05 pm   330

@drfred79 i lmao so hard i dribbled, ive found a way to get rid of the icon but then my partner moand at me for tapeing a peice of card to the tv so i had to take it down lol

Like most other people here the fact that this icon has shown up with no way to get rid of it is really annoying. But I am more angry at Nina Scherer and her childish responses, these are paying customers that you are seriously irritating with these responses.

How did you get this job? You seem absolutely abysmal at taking any criticism, I really hope you get replaced because you obviously can’t handle customers at all.

Doctor_Willis 24 October, 2012 @ 3:13 pm   332

As a user who has played Sing Star before, and did not enjoy it, I would thoroughly appreciate it if we were given the option to remove, or at the very least move to the bottom of the list, the new app.

Thank you.

JibrilPL 24 October, 2012 @ 3:14 pm   333

Dear SCEE, thank you for knowing better than I, what I want and what I need. Do you know what other entity, thought they knew better than the people what the people needed or wanted? The communists. Are there communists at SCEE?

Remove that annoying Singstar icon from XMB. Oh, and fire miss Nina Scherer for her unprofessional, rude and condescending attitude toward potential customers, otherwise your customers, that she insulted will just move over to your competition.

THC_steve_0 24 October, 2012 @ 3:15 pm   334

i just tried it and guess what I DONT LIKE IT!!!
have you ever tried ghost chilli eye drops? you mite like it!

Tye_Nice 24 October, 2012 @ 3:21 pm   335

I don’t want this app!! Give me the option to remove it please!! What a shocking decision to make…

Yellow_Frog83 24 October, 2012 @ 3:26 pm   337

Well, I must agree with angry mob.

I don’t want Singstar icon in my XMB so please give me a choice to remove it or hide it at least. Sony must understand that people don’t like to be forced to anything, so this new “sing or die” policy is from the customer pov a HUGE mistake.

Ok, made my statement. Now i must go and find my fork and torch.

kieranmarsh 24 October, 2012 @ 3:26 pm   338

games are a very subjective thing, im not going to comment on a persons CHOICE of game, i dislike having someone elses CHOICE enforced on my ps3!

I will not try it, i know i will not like it!

JokerDAndrew 24 October, 2012 @ 3:27 pm   339

I would be less annoyed if it would go into a folder then i wont click on it by mistake

Bear_Hunter_Bob 24 October, 2012 @ 3:27 pm   340

Firstly Nina, thank you for the Singstar update; the Singstar viewer was always crying out for this feature to play directly within the app.

I notice in the new update, clubs and Singstar profiles have been removed and was wondering if they will be returning in a future update? they helped make some great communities.

Thanks in advance for any info you are able to give.

Oh and lastly, I applaud your responses on here for being both amusing and deserved. People don’t like getting a taste of their own medicine. The lack of manners on here is truly incredible so its good to fight fire with fire. What is really surprising is that some of them even admit to being adults; you would think they would have greater priorities in their lives than an icon on the XMB. Bravo to the Sony PR department for letting you respond in a suitable way :)

Keep up the good work.

THC_PRITCHARD 24 October, 2012 @ 3:28 pm   341

At Steve o u own singstar

Nina I love u man you have my full respect, these people that moan go back to your mega Xbox (**singing go compare. Whiles watching you all cry**)

Bearded-Strange 24 October, 2012 @ 3:28 pm   342

I find it ridiculous that I cannot hide or delete this option, I understand about marketing but some people will not be interested in the game in any way, shape or form because they don’t play that sort of game. I ask that an option be included that will at the very least allow me to hide this Logo from my XMB so I don’t need to look at it.

I find Nina’s responses of “Try it you might like it” offensive, I apologise for the analogy but it makes you sound like you’re pushing drugs. Secondly do none of your service users opinions matter to you, we’re simply asking for an option to hide the logo or delete it.
I hope this has made some sort of Impact and if I have offended or insulted anyone I’m sorry. I am more than mildly annoyed that they felt the need to stick this on the XMB without options to remove or hide it, when they’re not exactly losing out on the game market.

ragasmack 24 October, 2012 @ 3:29 pm   343

Why didnt they just make it possible to put it into the folders? =/
Its annoying as hell

Tye_Nice 24 October, 2012 @ 3:32 pm   344

We should at least have the choice! They just give us free apps hoping for us all to splash out on add ons… Can only be described as cheek. Come on playstation sort it out

lardteamaker 24 October, 2012 @ 3:35 pm   345

@329 lol yeah feeling like it, with all the backlash on the thread. Ah well no big loss to me. i’ll just fire up the disc if i want to play it.

eusivecom 24 October, 2012 @ 3:36 pm   346

Please give us the option to remove your blotware and ask Sony to put the trophies back in its place.
Also why to trophies belong under online? Is this why most singleplayer games now has multipleplayer added for no good reason?

englishgolfer 24 October, 2012 @ 3:38 pm   347

I’m not fussed having it there. Like other icons I “don’t” need I simply scroll past them.

Reading some of the amazingly immature comments on this blog however makes me very worried for mankind’s future. Complain, yes. Threaten people and their property, NO!(*looks at post 301*)

Have some cake from me Nina – you need it!

THC_steve_0 24 October, 2012 @ 3:41 pm   348

the original disc version came with my ps3 waaaaay back in 08/09 but i never CHOSE to play it my kids did and the novelty soon wore off, this isnt about singstar or a attack on singstar, its about $ony thinking they can tell us what we want and force us to do things we dont want to, i have NO GRIPES WITH THE PS3 WHATSOEVER hence the stupid amount of hours we have spent playing games over the past 9/10 years, its all about the princible of it we pay their wages in theory yes psn is free and yes as a plus member we get “benefits” and yes there are loads of good things but i am not being told what i like and what i dont, nina has crossed a line if i spoke to someone at work as sarcastic and condesending as she did i would have been out the door!!! “Well, you’ll have to whine for a looong while then, I guess.” is what she said, fine let the whining begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THC_steve_0 24 October, 2012 @ 3:44 pm   349

nobody or nothing has been threatened at all, dont be so literal, its a implication that we dont need to have things thrust into our faces!

THE-MATTIE 24 October, 2012 @ 3:46 pm   350

If people wanted singstar they would go out and buy it. I didn’t buy my PS3 for it to be filled with crap that I don`t want!! and I know others don’t want it to and what’s the deal with it only being on some PS3s anyway?.Get an update that deletes it and sorts it out on the go now because this is a joke!.

Tye_Nice 24 October, 2012 @ 3:46 pm   351

I’ve tried it!! Really not a fan. Please please please let me delete

King_Ubu 24 October, 2012 @ 3:51 pm   352

Get rid of this Singstar icon!

Kind Regards

All PS3 owners who still have sense.

BeardyBrave 24 October, 2012 @ 3:54 pm   353

Let’s get something straight here. The complaints aren’t about having the icon on the xmb. It’s because it’s what the ps3 boots to on start up, it’s also about not being able to delete it. Forcing this kind of thing on customers in such an aggressive way is a huge mistake.

As a gamer I think it’s great that it’s free for those who want it, as someone who doesn’t want it, I want the option to delete it and as a parent of a seven year old I at least want the option to not boot to it on startup,

This IS obnoxious marketing. End of.

THE-MATTIE 24 October, 2012 @ 3:59 pm   354

GET IT DELETED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!

zxRATTLExz 24 October, 2012 @ 4:02 pm   355

That’s twice Sony have annoyed me this week. First off the new store is awkward to use and now after installing the obligatory system update i have a Singstar advert stuck to my XMB on my games bar. I have no interest in this type of entertainment. I even downloaded it hoping that it would allow me to delete it afterwards but no joy. I will never buy a song for it or Rock Band and all that crap. You should have at least given ys the option to delete this.

I have OCD and when it comes to my collections i like things to look organised. I have all my digital games in folders and Singstar is just sat there, annoying the hell out of me. One of the reasons i jumped from Xbox to PS3 was because their dashboard was full of crap i didn’t want to look at. Please do not go down this route Sony and fix it so that people who have no interest in Singstar can delete it from OUR dashboard.

TheMightyDarkRen 24 October, 2012 @ 4:02 pm   356

I DONT want this on my XMB…..
Please make it removeable….!!

x_skurvy_x 24 October, 2012 @ 4:13 pm   357

Let me delete it please or at least put it in a folder :(

zxRATTLExz 24 October, 2012 @ 4:14 pm   358

Just thought i would add to my previous comment, if you move this crap to another bar on the XMB then we have no problem. I understand that i don’t have to download it but the advert is on my games bar. MY GAMES, not the games you want me to play. I promise you that until this gets moved, the people who make singstar will not get a penny of my money on this game or any future product the may produce. I’d like you to MOVE IT MOVE IT !!!!

Project2insanity 24 October, 2012 @ 4:14 pm   359

COME ON, PEOPLE!!! Seriously, so many of you are absolute hypocritical cowards. When there’s something you want replies for, you demand it not be a generic ‘appreciate feedback’ one. Now you get all these replies, you demand a generic ‘appreciate feedback’ one because you don’t like what you read. You expect free speech without a rep having the same! Nina has kept an upbeat attitude despite your ludicrous attacks.

Here’s a few quotes from commenters with a severe lack of proportion: “one sentence to sum this all up. the ps3 is turning into an xbox.” I’m not gonna bother explaining that…

“This is a god damned outrage.” An icon equals blasphemy?

“I’m 28 years old, not 5.” Yet your response is that of a child’s.

“99% of people Don’t want it” and “clear that none of your customers welcome this travesty, bar a small minority of young children.” That isn’t even the case with commenters, never mind PS3 owners.

A_Nonny_Moose 24 October, 2012 @ 4:14 pm   360

I echo everyone else’s sentiments. I want this gone from my Game section. Now.

Tye_Nice 24 October, 2012 @ 4:23 pm   361

Get rid!! Please! We at least deserve a choice!

Project2insanity 24 October, 2012 @ 4:25 pm   362

@MikLSP; Looking at your last comment, I’m glad you’ve taken a respectable approach to voicing your concern. My issue is exactly as I wrote above. I didn’t intend disrespect to yourself but surely you can see what I meant now the angry mob has arrived. Maybe I jumped in a little early with you.

Please give an option to remove it.
I think it’s shocking that you went ahead with this even though you must have known the fallout it would cause.

LovesAnInjection 24 October, 2012 @ 4:34 pm   364

GET THIS THING OUT OF MY PS3! One of these days I accidentally start that horrid thing and the scar will show up on my trophy list forever! :(

bennyrafal 24 October, 2012 @ 4:34 pm   365

i would like to ask for possibility to remove Singstar icon from MY xmb menu, please…

wonder when sony will make a response to this

Tye_Nice 24 October, 2012 @ 4:37 pm   367

I’m not here to be disrespectful I just feel as a ps + user I’ve been let down.. they have clearly give us a free game hoping people will splash out on add ons! I love my ps3, really love it, but I don’t think they have thought this through…. Not asking alot, please give me the option to delete..
committed ps3 gamer

why have i suddenly got a game ive never played, have no interest in playing, and quite frankly despise the idea of having taking up space on my console, thrust upon me? I DONT WANT IT!! GET YOUR ANNOYING “GAME” OFF MY CONSOLE!! i am contacting bbc watchdog regarding this matter, as i dont care to have games forced upon me secretly in an update we didnt even need!!

eusivecom 24 October, 2012 @ 4:46 pm   369

Please give us the option to remove your blotware app and kindly put the trophy icon back in its place.

Darkwood_Killers 24 October, 2012 @ 4:46 pm   370

I actually can’t believe you have made this icon permanent!!! everytime i go to play a game i have to see that stupid game logo and i cant get rid of it! you might have fans of sing star, they may be on this forum hating on people like me, i couldnt care less! you need to make this icon go away and fast!!! i didnt pay playstation hundreds of pounds for them to tell me what i can and cant do with my playstation! Sort this out!

leon200079 24 October, 2012 @ 4:47 pm   371

Remove this please, it’s not really needed for those that have no interest in the game (in-fact just spoken to a fan of the game and even they don’t want the icon there)

SoulChimera 24 October, 2012 @ 4:50 pm   372

I would just like to add that I would like the icon removed (or at least placed somewhere else).

Akhensefu 24 October, 2012 @ 4:51 pm   373

i will never play singstar… i hate this game even before this advertisement! PLEAAAASE give us an option to say “NO” to this game! i do NOT want this game to mess up my game section!

PLEAAAAASE!!!! this one is really bugging us

GodOfBooze0857 24 October, 2012 @ 4:53 pm   374

At least let us have the option to delete it.

Oh great, now I have to be reminded that I have no friends and no talent every time I boot up my PS3. Guess it’s time to turn Auto-Start back on (or whatever it’s called) and hope I don’t have any alerts to attend to before playing whatever single player game takes my interest.

Even shunting it over to music would be fine by me, but I know the argument of “but it’s a game, it belongs in the game section” would arise – but it’s NOT a game until I install it, right? I don’t want to install it, I have no intention to install it, I foresee no planetary alignment that would convince me to install it, so what it is right now is on par with an annoying pop-up ad. Sure, one I only catch sight of for seconds at most, but one that still clutters up my experience with the PS3.

Tye_Nice 24 October, 2012 @ 4:59 pm   376

We had no choice in the matter!! I had no idea the update contained this game therefor I feel PlayStation has tricked me in to installing a game I don’t want, like and have no interest in purchasing add ons for. Don’t mean to be disrespectful but I’m disgusted… An unwanted icon may not seem like a big deal to some but to me it is… Please ps, respond to us all!

OnikenUK 24 October, 2012 @ 4:59 pm   377

Please remove it, every time I see the icon I hate Sony more and more. I even installed the thing on my PS3 with limited harddrive space in the hope that it would go away but it wouldn’t. Please!

Cheggwin86 24 October, 2012 @ 5:02 pm   378

Was going to say my peace, after a short read the person that thought of the idea of putting the singstar app on the Xmb needs to be fired!

Noodlesaurus 24 October, 2012 @ 5:02 pm   379

Up to 8 pages now and still no official word from Sony? Looks like its time to stir up the gaming press….

Oh wait, nevermind:

Cant wait until this picks up steam on Eurogamer, Kotaku and Joystiq. I’d urge you all to get in contact with them so they can run a story on Nina’s….interesting PR tactics.

oksennuspallo 24 October, 2012 @ 5:02 pm   380

Guess what? After this forcible update, which cannot be removed, there is no support for singstar anymore from our household.
Keep your crap.

Who was the idiot to allow this?

Hyperguy20 24 October, 2012 @ 5:04 pm   381

If the icon is on the XMB it should be removable at the user’s discretion. Its the same for all the other apps on PS3. Why not this one? Why are we forced to have it? Why not give us the option?

It’s our system, we should be able to choose.

*deleted* remove that disgusting icon, It almost gave me cancer when I noticed it.

Way to go to put useless stuff on the xmb.

daftchunk 24 October, 2012 @ 5:07 pm   383

Yet more crap clogging up my xmb. It would be nice if i was given the choice but no. Well done Sony. Morons.

Please let me remove the singstar icon, also give me the choice to get the old store back while your at it, because i hate it.

NL_-Dadude-_ 24 October, 2012 @ 5:08 pm   385

I read this topic/blog.
Does anyone agree that the comments from “nina” look like a “bot”
Some examples:

USER1: “This is great news for me cause I travel with my PS3 and I won’t have to use my mics.
Despite the lacking of new songs lately, Singstar is the best karaoke game in the world!!!”
NINA->”You do? On a plane? :)..Thanks, that makes us very happy.”

USER2: “Oh god, NO. NO. NO.
I don’t care if it’s anywhere on the XMB just not under Game.
Do you even comprehend how many people you’re going to [DELETED] off?
I understand moving the trophy collection but a pointless icon in the
way of games I actually want to play is NOT the way to go.
You must scrap those plans ASAP or people will be moaning about
it at every chance for months to come.
[DELETED] were you thinking?”
NINA-> “I guess the moderated bits mean you are really pleased about it. Thanks, we’re really proud of it.”

The deleted bits were already moderated, i did a clean copy and paste, you all know what words are deleted 😉

My guess? Nina is virtual…. not a person…
So please keep on blogging with a virtual sony person…
On msn we had CHATMAN once… same piece of mind. hahahaha

Whoeps forgot one important thing…
PS3 update 4.31 and higher??? REMOVE THE SINGSTAR ICON…
Or make it removable……

How the bleep do I get rid of this icon on my XMB. More and more clutter on my XMB that cannot be disabled/removed.

How about finally fixing the things that really need fixing instead of adding more useless things? Same as video editing, TV-channels, photo gallery, music unlimited. All things I don’t need and want removed from the XMB.

Please add the option to NEVER connect to the Internet when starting a Bluray movie instead of only the options [yes] or [no, but please keep bugging me].

And finally add a real webbrowser and keep it up-to-date.

Am really sick of your stupid firmwares.

/end rage

oksennuspallo 24 October, 2012 @ 5:12 pm   388

Well, I think this is one of the best things that has happened to Microsoft! They are very pleased that people with PS3 are made mad with these kind of issues.
They are propably laughing their asses off right now.
How stupid you have to be to annoy the whole PS3 community with this idiotic idea?

Vincent_Deseers 24 October, 2012 @ 5:20 pm   389

353 – You can stop the game from booting by turning disc auto start off in System Settings -> Disc Auto-Start = OFF

This will also mean disc games will not auto boot when you insert a game disc into your PS3 anymore.

Give us option to delete stupid SingStar icon from XMB or at least hide it somwhere else, not under Game section of the XMB

@ mc_pot
Its not just one Icon, they have done it before: video editing, TV-channels, photo gallery, music unlimited.
All additional icons that were not there in the past but have been added over time without asking me if I wanted them and no option to remove them.
All in the main-menu.

While simple things like “remember that I never want to let Blurays connect to the Internet to DL massive trailers so I can’t instantly watch the movie I bought” check-boxes somewhere nicely hidden deep inside the configuration menu seem to be impossible to do.

Fruttyman 24 October, 2012 @ 5:24 pm   392

Nina, can you take this SingStar icon and GTFO please?
This is no joke.

MGStuart 24 October, 2012 @ 5:28 pm   393

Who thought adding singstar without the option of deleting was a good idea! I’m never going to use it. Why can’t I delete it ?

cthulhuboy 24 October, 2012 @ 5:29 pm   394

I don’t own Singstar on disk. I have no interest whatsoever in playing Singstar. I realise i do not have to download this ‘game’, but I resent it being added to my XMB without the ability to be removed. (Okay, I did actually download it to see what would happen if I then deleted it… It turns out I’m stuck with it.)

Please can Sony at least provide a delete option to remove the icon in the XMB games section. I have created albums of games according to genre on my PS3, and this icon confuses the issue. It is useless as it just sits there – I can’t even hide it in an album.

It’s great that Sony now include full downloadable games as part of Playstation+ but at least I have a choice as to whether I want them on my system. I realise Sony might want to ‘open this game up to a wider audience’ but I did not choose to be that audience. It is especially bad as it cannot be played without additional hardware and purchases of content.

but dude thats my point… what……..athey could add every app available in the world to my xmb i wouldnt care lol…..i can still play games an do what i want with my ps3….but ur honestly telling me that the inclusion of these icons is enough to warrant all this abuse from people acting like sony has done something really bad….which it hasnt atleast ur ps3 is still working…..i honestly dont know why this has made peoples panties get in a twist i just think people need to look at there lives an ask is it really worth living…when ur gettin annoyed over little things like this….there iis more things in life to get angry or upset about than the inclusion of something free hahahahahahah

bunch of babies man really…i mean i have the lovefilm app on ps3 i never use it i prefer netflix but u dont see me gettin really angry with sony demanding they remove it hahahahaha

archer5869 24 October, 2012 @ 5:32 pm   396

Please remove this ridiculousness from my PS3, I don’t want it as i’m sure many others do not. If people wanted singstar they’d get it, no need to rely on some corporation to put this crap on my playstation.

GribbleGrunger 24 October, 2012 @ 5:39 pm   397

This is a great idea. Baring in mind that you can now use your PSEye with this and Sony are keen on pushing MOVE this Christmas with Okami, Sports Champion 2 and Wonderbook, don’t you think that it would be a great idea to bundle the PSEye in with every PS3 from now on? Think about that for a moment and have a quiet word with Sony. Cheers

Why oh why, first CS:GO now this? Why Sony? what did we ever do to you?
Only Europe and Australia again? why? why isn’t it on the other stores? that Singstar icon? why just us? as small and insignificant it might seem, I mean really, it’s pathetic that I would get so upset about it but alas I am and it seems I am not the only one.

Please do something about it.

OctoberDragon 24 October, 2012 @ 5:40 pm   399

We should be given a choice to delete the singstar and not be stuck with it on the xmb where it is too, if we don’t want it, or have any desire to play it.
It’s a free game so I should of had a choice to want it downloaded on my system or not! Especially as like other games I’ve got downloaded on my ps3 I can get rid of them if I desire, singstar is a game so I should have a choice to get rid of it too if I wish! Not amused!

Panda-Drache 24 October, 2012 @ 5:44 pm   400

I always found the design of the XMB great with all it`s simplicity and easieness. Sony started to crash this great concept with adding totally unneccesary features like the Health Warning while the Boot-up, some Icons from Apps I`ll never use in my life and some other stuff around the xmb.
Personally i DO lke Singstar, I also have the disc version, but who would get the Idea of putting a NOT DELETABLE Icon directly on the Sart Screen, when i boot my PS3 up ??? At least you shoul be able to add this into a folder or something.

carlosdfn 24 October, 2012 @ 5:47 pm   401

I can’t believe the amount of sheep we have here defending this. If we all were like you we’d have a hundred icons of games we don’t own nor want, to scroll through within the next week. It’s pathetic.

There’s no justification for this. I don’t care about the game and never will, why is it permanently stuck in the list of games I’ve purchased? It’s an ad, nothing less and nothing more, and I want to get rid of it so I don’t have to scroll through yet another item whenever I’m browsing through my games.

If people keep quiet there will be more in the future.

If you’re interested in the game, you will go to the store and download this “app” just like you do with everything else and then it will have the right to be where it is now.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you people?

vileator2988 24 October, 2012 @ 5:48 pm   402

Plz plz plz get rid of this it is so annoying wen i turn my ps3 on nd its the first thing i see i really dislike these sort of games nd the fact tht i cant not remove this rubbish is a complete joke so plz remove otherwise im converting to xbox

cthulhuboy 24 October, 2012 @ 5:50 pm   403

@ mc-pot #387

So glad you are massive fan of Singstar. I’m a massive fan of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I have no idea if you are, but lets just say you aren’t. In fact lets just say for the sake of argument that you hate fantasy RPGs…

Just imagine if an icon for a version of Skyrim appeared on your XMB and you could do nothing but leave it sitting there, and have to see a screen with a picture of a dragon on every time you flicked past it.

Oh, and its crippled version of Skyrim, so that even if you wanted to give it a go you’d be required to buy a special controller and pay to download each and every location in the game. I’m sure you’d really appreciate that, wouldn’t you?

I don’t particularly mind Sony having a go at trying to entice me into spending money on stuff I have absolutely no interest in (although perhaps i do mind a bit as I have spent £300 on their system and PS+ membership)… as long as I have the choice to either disable, hide or delete such offerings.

I hope you get the point.

im not a sheep dude….just think u guys complaing about it are little babies “waaa my xmb dont look like it used to waaa”

get over yourself….i have complaints about sony too like lack of updates each week to store in general…but thats an important issue that deserves to be commented on…but crying because they have added an icon is just ridiculous it really is…..dont play it if u dont want to but get a grip on reality life is too short to be really annoyed over this hahaha seriously its an icon so what….i want it but dont have it…u dont see me crying coz it aint there do ya hahah

Der_Pate 24 October, 2012 @ 5:53 pm   405

Any word on this issue, Sony? Because it seems, there are a lot of people complaining!

GirlWithaTardis 24 October, 2012 @ 5:55 pm   406

It’s a clever marketing strat but a bit invasive; it would have been better to release it via PS Store so those who play party games can download the app and enjoy while the rest of us can keep our XMB clear of redundant icons.

@ comment 402

dude i see what ur saying and for the sake of argument i dont like rpgs hate them…..but even if they added an icon for skyrim it wouldnt bother me coz i would simply ignore it hahah….just like the lovefilm app i dont use it but dont get enraged eveytime i see it hahaha…thats what babies do

and lets be honest iam a massive fan of singstar its real fun so i think sony were just trying to bring some fun to everyone but unforunatly for sony half the people are just miserable babies that complaing because one little icon is on there xmb with out there say so…..haha seriously life is too short

If this has to be on my system then fine but can you either move it to music or let it function like any of the other games on my PS3 – ie let it be organised into a folder or allowed to descend the list of installed games if I don’t use it.

Having to boot up to an advertisement for something I don’t give a damn about is annoying. Microsoft annoying in fact.

You let us turn off the equally annoying “What’s New” so let us turn off this irritant as well.

Ridiculous executive decision.
I have never and will never want to play Sing Star.
And, I can think of a majority of the gaming populous that feel the same way.
So, why was the idea for a mandatory XBM icon, for an app I and many others have no intention of ever utilising, to invade my space made?

What’s more, the childish and rather insulting “official” responses given to peoples unpleased state here is inexcusable.

I don’t know a single person who is even remotely interested in Sing Star, so why would anyone think it is popular enough to be a mandatory part of the PS3 system?
And I work in a video game shop.
So, I know a lot of hardcore and casual gamers.

This is an appealing act.
And the person responsible for it should be signing on Jobseekers Allowance next week.

To any mature Sony personnel, not the impudent child responsible for the previous responses:
Fix this.
And while you’re at it, punish those who have dealt this devastating blow to your already questionable customer service reputation.

markymillertime5 24 October, 2012 @ 6:09 pm   410

Nina several ppl asked if you could remove this eye sore & you’ve ignored them, not had the decency to respond if you can or not. Sony sort it out & give us an option to remove things like this is we don’t want it there. From what I’ve seen & heard more ppl are annoyed than pleased. SORT IT OUT!!!

mrbigg123 24 October, 2012 @ 6:09 pm   411

this is the final straw from sony there network got hacked i stuck by them when playing online i get dns errors at least twice a week i stuck by them but i am an owner of over 150 different games not one of them being singstar as it is not a game i have any interest in play nor is it an icon i want to have to look at every day so sony you remove it or lose a customer who has play the playstation from day one please let me no if this is staying if so i am going to xbox

Noi3eOfficial 24 October, 2012 @ 6:10 pm   412

I am extremely disappointed in Sony for making the decision to mess with my Games list… It’s my Games list & if i wish for something i hate not to be there i delete it… With no option of this you are breaching agreements made with loyal users, you are in fact force advertising, which i detest…

Before any fool’s reply, i have never made a complaint about any update or anything else Content related for that matter, this is the first time i have felt strongly enough to say something…

I am not impressed with this blog either, no constructive replies to people who are obviously not happy about the forced advertising & interference with their Game list!!!

Admit that this is (against people’s will) forced on every single user of a PS3???

Hopefully Sony will see sense & remove or make available an option to remove said item/icon from the XMB… Or at least the Games list…

Would it be too much to ask to expect an sympathetic & intelligible reply from commenter’s???

Thank you…

cognac-vsop 24 October, 2012 @ 6:14 pm   413

baldieboiii 24 October, 2012 @ 6:15 pm   414

Noi3eOfficial 24 October, 2012 @ 6:15 pm   415

Drencrom 24 October, 2012 @ 6:15 pm   416

Let us remove the Singstar app from the game section on the XMB!

poor show Sony, whoever approved this to be added to XMB Game section without option to delete it should be fired, this is real issue and I would like to see some official response.

Jabeel786 24 October, 2012 @ 6:18 pm   418

I don’t see what the problem is. I mean 100% of PSN users use Singstar so it’s only logical to force it down our throats. Let us all be honest for a moment. The number one most requested feature isn’t cross game chat, or a better designed XMB, or a better browser, the ability to delete/hide trophies, forcing developers to support music from the XMB, etc.

Singstar is what everyone’s been waiting for.

cognac-vsop 24 October, 2012 @ 6:18 pm   419

singstar is soo bad, people don’t even want it for free! get rid of it sony!

Hi, I just wanted to say I don’t like seeing the singstar icon in my ps3. I would like to delete / hide it. Please fix this. Thanks.

I agree with many posters here, I will never use this add on but am forced to have it at the top of my games list. Poor show Sony, very poor show. Do you realise that every time I switch my PS3 on and play games, this will eat away at the long standing respect I have for you as a company. This is forceful advertising of the highest order.
Very unhappy.
I have never had to complain before as I always have a choice. Here you leave me no choice.

carlosdfn 24 October, 2012 @ 6:27 pm   422

Right now the official response is deal with it.

It’s hilarious how some people miss the point of this. The problem here is the reasoning behind this decision, not the trouble caused by the app itself (even though it is a nuisance).
Stealth installing something on our systems and not giving us the option to delete it on top of it.
This is not something that is crucial for the os or the system to function, it’s a friggin’ demo or ad or whatever you wanna call it, the fact that it can’t be moved or deleted (not to mention that it was installed without prior notice) can’t be justified in any way.

I already wasted too much time with this but you just can’t stay quiet about some things. Do whatever the hell you want.

CornishP4g4n 24 October, 2012 @ 6:30 pm   423

Never posted nor complained about anything so far, but made the effort to post : – PLEASE REMOVE THE SINGSTAR ICON!

As a typical guy, I find it actually rather embarrassing to have it on there. Its the same thing as mates popping over and asking why I suddenly have a pink fluffy mirror on my wall! Actually, if I did have one, at least I could hide it! But, I can’t hide/remove the singstar icon…..

Look, why don’t you give users the option to hide it? It’s not hard to do, and will please everyone. Those who want it there can, and those who don’t, won’t.

Please respond.

I want to agree strongly with post 407,408 & 409. It’s bad enough we get xBox fan boys mocking us for the state of the PSN and the incredibly uncompetitive prices on the playstation store, now we have a download link to a game we don’t forced onto our homescreen.

Why not go the whole hog and crowbar in a video stream in the middle of the screen that just plays ads at you until whether you want them or not?

We are your customers Sony and we are disappointed you did not consult us about this and that you are not giving us the option to remove this intrusion ourselves.

If this isn’t fixed I won’t be bothering with a ps4. I’m moving to the Xbox.

Please get this crap off our PS3’s ASAP.

Sorry – for clarity that should read ‘a download link to a game we don’t want forced onto our homescreen.’

Also – why couldn’t you just have made it available in the store? why the digital home invasion? Crazy idea Sony. Just crazy.

I think Sony has an advertising agreement with Singstar.

If they have, it really won’t be going anywhere.

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 6:43 pm   428

HvideKanin 24 October, 2012 @ 6:43 pm   429

Once again the Playstation team manages to set a new benchmark in horrible UI-design. Please remove this pointless icon from my XMB. It won’t fit down my throat, so stop trying to stuff it down there. If I wanted to pla singstar I would’ve. This isn’t going to make me – quite the contrary. I am never, ever EVER going to play singstar, and even if I was, I wouldn’t appreciate you guys sticking it to an already overpopulated XMB.
You guys didn’t even have the courtesy or sticking it to the BOTTOM of the games menu, you taunt your community by forcing us to flip past it anytime se want to get to one of the games we CHOOSE to have on the menu.

Noi3eOfficial 24 October, 2012 @ 6:44 pm   430

Somebody with the right knowledge should start a petition…

Just a thought???

Please tell me that there is a way of removing this Singstar icon/app from my home menu…
I am a tone deaf 35 year old guy who enjoys FPS and driving games. The LAST thing I want is Singstar stuck on my PS3 home menu.

I appreciate that Sony are trying to get people to play this game and buy songs from the store etc, but if I wanted to download it, I would have much preferred to have had the choice.
Why could this not just been a free download from the PlayStation store?

The love of my PS3 (and Sony in general) has been spoilt by this UNWANTED addition.
I hope to see an update coming soon that will either remove Singstar from my home menu, or give me the choice to opt out from owning it.

I do not want this on my PS3.

Looking forward to your reply,
Yours sincerely,
Steve Mitchell (A PlayStation fan from day one).

kieranmarsh 24 October, 2012 @ 6:46 pm   432

can we also get an icon for DJ Hero, move fitness and dance dance revolution? i havent played any of them either!

my vita is feeling left out now, can i get some more icons in the next firmware for that too? but it would have to be for a game that needs an accessory i dont yet have

and then after that can we get sarcastic replies in the blog about it too?

many thanks

How do I remove/disable the icon? It is between my gamedisc and my downloaded games. Do you even use/test your own products? Or is this just another Playstation fail?

MartinPhantom 24 October, 2012 @ 6:47 pm   434

leon200079 24 October, 2012 @ 6:48 pm   435

Put it into the store under the apps section. It isn’t going to dramtically increase your sales of Singstar songs if it’s going to be there all the time. Those that to want will use it. It just frustrates those that don’t want to use it. Choice is a good thing, make this a choice for people.

monoliet 24 October, 2012 @ 6:48 pm   436

ZooZooGo also coming to store = not in list above ?

Stonesthrow 24 October, 2012 @ 6:48 pm   437

@420 “This is forceful advertising of the highest order.”
Well said. This goes further than just having an irrelevant icon there. With the store update design in mind as well, it seems like Sony is trying to walk a different road for marketing, and I’m not liking it at all..

This reminds me of a little while back, when we “supposedly” got Zen pinball for free on Vita. After spending about 30 minutes downloading the thing (wifi on Vita..) I end up noticing that the game comes with no content at all, it’s pretty much an empty shell of a game with just the menu’s in it, and all content has to be purchased. Suffice it to say, I was pretty pissed.. These tactics don’t work Sony, on the contrary.. Lately I feel less respected as a consumer and am honestly starting to worry for the future. Don’t go Microsoft on us for the love of..

SkynetRules 24 October, 2012 @ 6:50 pm   438

Please, give us an option to remove this abomonation….

bigfatfez 24 October, 2012 @ 6:52 pm   439

Nice way to invade users privacy. This “advert” could be called spam except that spam can usually be deleted. At least it gives us something to get angry about whenever we use the PS3. Way to go team! A politician once knocked on my door and said he just wanted to remind me to vote, I replied “Thanks for reminding me to not vote for you”…. hopefully PS3 users will vote with their feet and your company will soon fold…. and as for the “it’s only one advert, whoop de doo” commentator, let’s hope you’re right because it might soon be 30 unwanted and intrusive icons soon. Singstar staff; about as talented as the wannabes who buy it.

Stonesthrow 24 October, 2012 @ 6:54 pm   440

@433 They could just as well put it in the Music section if they really want it on the actual XMB.. I’m actually pretty curious for the outcome of this. Are they going to adress the many complaints and change it, or just leave it as it is and hope we get used to it? I’m guessing the latter.. And it’s not the actual icon that’s such a big deal, it’s the marketing idea behind it that bugs me..

Please remove the icon. I wont be buying the next gen after this. Regards

miodek71 24 October, 2012 @ 6:56 pm   442

Please, allow me to delete this from my XMB. I never did or will be playing that sort of games.

leon200079 24 October, 2012 @ 6:57 pm   443

@437. Im not one to usually voice any concerns on this blog but i have today. It does seem a minor complaint, but it’s the principle. It’s not the application I have an issue with, but they could just have it as a download in the app store (they could also put Lovefilm Netflix (which i use) there as well.

Hopefully 4.31 fixes this minor complaint

Wild_Dog_Rod 24 October, 2012 @ 6:59 pm   444

Hey Sony (and Nina)

As much as I appreciate being given stuff, I’d also like to think I own my PS3 and my XMB and therefore should have control over what is displayed there – so being made to have this icon on the XMB is simply not acceptable. You are trying to get me to use a specific product so essentially you are marketing the product to me, against my wishes, and there should be an option to opt out of this.

SergioDaly 24 October, 2012 @ 7:00 pm   445

Just to give my 2 cents.
i also dislike the position of the icon. it could sit at the bottom, or moving around depending on the usage of the game, like its now for unsorted items, its still visible and won’t bother that much the ones that don’t want to use it.
people using this blog and complaining don’t struck me as people who just play some games and are low or mid-end users… i believe they are like me (player that bought over 50 games on PS3 alone) and i also believe is unwise to stress us up with a so easily fix situation.

I paid for my PS3 and I want my PS3 to be cool…now it is not. Every time I go to the Game section this silly icon comes up. It is not cool.

Please Sony give me the option to delete this in a software update. I do not want this and will never want it. Now whenever I see the silly icon I will get annoyed. This annoyance will lead me to never purchase anything developed by London Studio and if I continue to get annoyed by this then my next console will be made by another manufacturer.

Noi3eOfficial 24 October, 2012 @ 7:05 pm   447

Grauwsaur 24 October, 2012 @ 7:06 pm   449

I like SingStar and have bought many songs in the past, but the official Sony comments on this thread are just shameful.

I was about to buy some songs again but between the horribly offensive and disrespectful mocking replies from Nina and the fact that I, too do not appeciate this one game among many shoved in my face, I lost all will to spend another dime on it.

p.s. Really too bad, because it’s neat that you don’t need the disc anymore. Just move it to the music section already, plenty of spotlight there and it fits right in.

BEYOND-14 24 October, 2012 @ 7:06 pm   450

@mc_pot #406

It seems to me that your response to anybody who makes a valid complaint about a highly visible demo game that is little more than a front for an online store being shoehorned onto our systems permanently without the option to delete or even hide is as follows:

“u is all babies hurr hurr hurr”

I think if you are representative of the sort of member of the Great British Public who meekly accepts such crass marketing and enjoys parting with money for such stuff, then Sony Entertainment Network has nothing to worry about with their future business practices in the UK.

Hurr hurr hurr.

Please Can you give us the option of deleting this Singstar of our xmb or at least to hide it ! Its really annoying ! Im never gonna use it You can see there is a lot of us not happy. SORT IT PLEASE !!!!

Drencrom 24 October, 2012 @ 7:12 pm   453

Good idea, move that icon to the music section. It makes sense and we don’t have to see it everytime we start up the console.

Or, just let us get rid of the icon all together.

Impresamccabe 24 October, 2012 @ 7:12 pm   454

I’m not gonna lie, the fact that I don’t have the ability to remove this really annoys me. I have no intention of EVER playing a Singstar game. I literally couldn’t give two s**ts. Please give me the option to remove it. And don’t tell me to try it out, because I don’t want to. Ever.

There are already numerous forum posts about how annoying this is. Please take what we ask and give us the option to not show it there.

Settings->System Settings->Show Sinstar Icon->Yes | No

That option. Please. Please.

xoxpipxox 24 October, 2012 @ 7:14 pm   455

sony i think you made a mistake with this icon please update so this can be removed or hidden

Project2insanity 24 October, 2012 @ 7:20 pm   456

@bigfatfez; I have never played Singstar, I have never considered playing Singstar and I do not intend to play Singstar. I still stand by the stance of whoop-de-do. If it ever amounts to more icons then I’ll fully support a folder for them but neither will I push for deletion nor for it to be moved to another section because it literally is one icon. Even if it somehow bothered me, it isn’t worth myself getting wound up over something so little.

As for its future, what matters is how many users it does bring in and then, only then, will the majority have truly spoken. Heck, I’m tempted because all the negativity you people are bringing.

dude ur clearly a child urself putting a comment like that :)…i just think life is too short an was shocked the way people were reacting to such a little issue….i do not just accept whatever sony shove down my throat as that is what u were trying to say but being over potentious about making the point…i get very annoyed each week with lack of support from sony were the store is concerned but the constant complaints never get answered anyway so why bother…. just feel that this is just a minor issue….and people actually getting on there high horses is just funny

so to end…. get off ur high horse dude and go to bed coz its past ya bedtime u child :) (see now thats me being childish)

You are the perfect nullified marketing target…

What the HELL is this?

Put it in the apps section of the market place! NOT in front of my games. I got a PS3 to play games not be a lonely wannabe musician singing to my TV.

Either remove this piece of crap or stick it somewhere no one ventures.

Stonesthrow 24 October, 2012 @ 7:28 pm   460

I’ve just gone over the comments and I have to say, the replies could have been met with a little more courtesy as well.. This barrage of angry gamers must be overwhelming from the other side, but responding to angry users in such a sarcastic and – if I may say so – arrogant way isn’t the way to go I would think.. This isn’t exactly going to help your marketing either.. Just saying..

Well done Sony – REALLY well done!!

After years of defending you against xbox fanboys and their crappy advert based desktop, you go and stick this abomination on MY games list. A ‘game’ i would think twice about installing if my life depended on it!

I’ve read the frankly insulting Nina official responses. Responses so vapid and obtuse that i question if this ‘nina’ isn’t infact a Sonybot!

Well for me – I will not purchase ANYTHING from PS Store until I have the ability to remove this monstrosity from my games list.

A disappointed fan :(

Er… weirdly I updated both my ps3’s today.
The one without any singstar stuff on it has the new app on the xmb.

The Ps3 with all the downloaded stuff from the singstore has no singstar app at all. Can’t find anything in the store. Can’t redo the system update.

Bit confused.

Sly-Ripper 24 October, 2012 @ 7:30 pm   463

God, what’s with the stupid Singstar icon placement? Just put it in the store like everything else.

RollingSun2000 24 October, 2012 @ 7:37 pm   464

Just to let you know, you can delete the Likefilm app. Go to the app’s icon and press the triangle button. You will see a delete option. Now try doing that with SingStar…
Stepping back from the storm of comments, I understand your opinion. You’re right, it does seem like people are going overboard with their complaints. I myself will get use to ignoring the app. But at the same time, there shouldn’t be anything to ignore.
Each comment should be counted as a tick in the “unhappy” box. Not really a full blown whinge from the highest mountain. The internet has a way of making mole-hills look like mountains and then there is the mob mentality that takes over and a small niggle turns into the biggest problem in the world since the last one.
SingStar might be a good game, but this app is for a demo version. If I was interested I would have tried it a long time ago. I don’t need a shortcut on my XMB. But like I said, I will get use to ignoring it. But I feel the same way as CornishP4g4n #422, I’m also embarrassed to have the icon.
In your case, SingStar is preaching to the choir. There is no real need to promote the product beyond telling you that it exists. For the rest of us the icon is a form of spam.

gravfall 24 October, 2012 @ 7:40 pm   465

Singstar?? REALLY??!! *deleted* Who hit everyone really hard at Sony over the head to make this go through?
Have everyone lost it completely? If i wanted to play or even see singstar on more or less a daily basis i would go buy a god damned Wii.

Remove that nasty *deleted* icon from my XMB! Sure, make it an option INSIDE the store but not right there like some random cancer.

vodka-knot 24 October, 2012 @ 7:40 pm   466

Can you please make a patch to REMOVE this icon? I don’t like the game and I DON’T want it on my XMB! I’ve tried it before and I hate it, I prefer rock band games which I have! I’d like to remove it and be informed next time of they’re going to put stuff like this on my XMB and not just slap it up there without saying anything!

Akhensefu 24 October, 2012 @ 7:44 pm   467

i don’t know why u re bothered about the comments, that are complaining about the not removabe icon… at least u have the choice not to see it every time u log on to ur ps3…
and the icon SPAMS into ur bought games… i have a long list, and sometimes play random… but all games of them i like! but now there is singstar too… so, now i wanna play random, and i got on singstar… now it wants to install crap onto my system… look into future… then there is singstar, the michael jackson game, defjam rapstar and the whole list of games i do not like… and with every game my list will be permanently messed up!

so u like it? make it with winnie pooh the game, resident evil and others… make it the game u hate the most… and for every game u have to buy a special controller… or headset, or ps eye u do not own already… see the point?

and btw. we are all babies because we complain about it? u’re a greater baby cause u complain because u omplain about something u’re not forced to see… mini shrek (cause u just troll the whole time)

dude thankyou…i agree with you i understand if people dont want it make an option to delete it… but the way people were reacting was as if sony had said “right were gona take all ps3 back now and u cant have a say” hahaha i mean its one little icon was my point :)
and on another note people like me that do want it….it aint there hahaha go figure

@462 dude get a grip i aint a troll just think people need to look at what is worth complaing about…ur saying there forcing u to buy controlers u dont have??….how are they??……and admitedly maybe calling everyone babies about complaing was childish….hahaha but come on it is a bit….one little icon on ur xmb is not a big drama as everyone is making it out to be… not even gona comment anymore coz as rollingsundemo said is his post things have a way of gettin out of hand on blogs… peace out everyone happy gaming :)…..and get a grip of reality some of ya

M-CHM13L3K 24 October, 2012 @ 7:53 pm   470

ive incidentally installed that piece of sh… and on my trophies is SING STAR the only thing i will never PLAT and i doubt they would remove it … might need new account not to mention that THING on xmb i hope at least that those capitalistic commies will remove or hide that shamefull to adult gamer BIG icon

Private-Lu 24 October, 2012 @ 7:56 pm   471

How do I get rid of it from my XMB, I don’t want it there, I never agreed to have it there.

I don’t like SingStar, never have never will.

Why is this not just a download from the store, rather than making it a mandatory thing. I can tell you I know some people that would agree.

I’m pretty sure a few months ago, this was a PSN Store Download that was a choice, and not a waste of XMB space.

Why don’t you release the YouTube XMB App for instead, I had to get a US PSN account just for the PS3, it doesn’t work oin the browser. Or then again you could release the Netflix App for the Vita.

Extimulated 24 October, 2012 @ 7:57 pm   472

Dear creator of the SingStar thumbnail,

Remove this piece of *deleted* and never bring it back to the PS3 thumbnail, ever again, every *deleted* time I want to start a game I accidentally click on this *deleted* SingStar.

Sincerely, a mad PS3 user.

Akhensefu 24 October, 2012 @ 7:57 pm   473

you just have to see more than urself to see, that it was a shot to their own knee from sony… some players want to have a clean gamesection… and not a dirty spammed one… its ok for you to have it in your list, ok… but for many players it is not ok… so, why do u do not want even the option to make it invisible, or the option to put it into a folder… or even the option to turn it off after several days? (then it should be enough from this ad…)

the people are bothered, cause it is permanent
i can understand that… i am bothered too… i can understand u, that u can just ignore it (i can not), i can NOT understand, why u can not just accept the opinion of the whole mass except the ones that have the same as urs

Project2insanity 24 October, 2012 @ 8:00 pm   474

@Noi3eOfficial; Don’t try to categorise me, you’re wasting your time. If this icon manages to bring in a huge new base of users, will you really believe it’s a bad move?

As for your comment stating they ‘are breaching agreements made with loyal users’, please enlighten us where this agreement is. ‘No constructive replies’, you ask? Well, I haven’t seen a substantial amount of constructive questions. Double standards as usual.

I don’t take issue with people asking questions but I do take issue with the way many have put it forward. mc_pot hasn’t decided to call those people children just for the sake of it, he clearly feels that’s the way people are acting and there’s plenty comments justifying his thought.

mattmanunited 24 October, 2012 @ 8:03 pm   475

Are the people who run Sony *deleted* literally?they put an advertisement for singstar on the XMB when the majority of people that play ps3 are male 13-30.
Do not go down the same road as Microsoft with advertisements because i will sell my ps3 and just upgrade my computer.Remove this *deleted* now!

ur name does not match with ur comment….thats the best post ive read on this blog id say very sane lol not insanity at all :)….and thankyou ur right i wasnt just calling everyone babies for the sake to get peoples backs up i just think there more bigger problems with psn to really complain about than the addition of a little icon people can just ignore…..dude thanks again for an actual adult post :)
