‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (12th May 2010)

Greetings one and all and welcome to another PlayStation Store ‘Heads Up’.

Mike is up against it this week and has kindly let me out of my cage long enough to bring news of the latest Store update – I’m only too happy to oblige.

So what’s on the cards this week?

Well, quite apart from the new set of amazing Special Offers, (Critter Crunch for €2.99/£2.39 is just one of the deals too good to pass up) if you ever owned a MegaDrive or SNES then the chances are you might remember ‘Rocket Knight Adventures’ or its sequel ‘Sparkster’. If you do, or even if you don’t you’re in for a treat because this week Konami brings us ‘Rocket Knight‘ – the sequel to these two 16-Bit gems. Armed with a whacking great sword and his trademark rocket pack, you’ll take to the skies to defend the world of Elhorn from all comers. Best of all, if you’re still on the fence you can try it out before you grab the full game.

We’ve also been blessed with ‘Catan’- a digital version of the German board game, ‘The Settlers of Catan’ for you all to enjoy. It’ll take a mixture of strategy, luck and negotiation to come out on top and it’s addictive enough that I’ve been playing it all week. So get out there and establish those colonies! Establish them!

You’re spoiled for DLC this month as awesome titles become even more awesome. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 gets its first premium DLC in the form of the SpecAct packs – camouflaged weapons and outfits for every class to give you the edge on the battlefield. Ignore them at your peril, because when you’re out setting charges on the M-Com stations, I’ll be the invisible one in the long grass ready to attach C4 to the back of your head when you’re not looking.

BioShock 2 expands further with three new multiplayer packs to draw you back into the underwater world of Rapture, LittleBigPlanet gets zoological with the ‘More Animals!’ costumes and we’ve got a whole new chapter with unlockable loot for Square-Enix’s action-RPG, Nier.

Admittedly it’s a quiet week for PSP, but to tide you over until ModNation Racers next week there’s never been a better time to pick up Buzz! Quiz World or LittleBigPlanet as we release even more downloadable content for these two brilliant titles.

I’d love to tell you more about the three new Skate 3 packs, the new Shoryuken costumes for Super Street Fighter IV, the Domination Pack for DJ Hero and all the rest, but you’ll have to go check the list for yourself. I just haven’t got the time… I’ve got colonies that need establishing!

Later guys, I’ll be around to reply to comments in a little while.

great! but still no penny arcade 3 or 4 sad :(…

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 14:39

Sorry rabiuddin, but Gabe and Tycho have said that they’re not going to make them – they’ve apparently moved on to other projects. Sad face indeed. :(

No Sam and Max Season 3 episode 2 yet ?

Fantastic update, now where’s Dgnfly?

steven_dutch 12 May, 2010 @ 14:33

Catan :)
Awesome, been waiting a long time for this. Thanks.

da-wolfdude 12 May, 2010 @ 14:33

No demos this week?
Atleast some LBP stuff^^

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 14:45

Well, Capcom have re-released the demos for Dark Void and MotoGP 09/10, so those are back up. You won’t find them in Latest but they’re back in their relevant sections for the time being.

whoa. i kinda wasn’t expecting rocket knight for today! awesome news, much love ross :)

Obligatory Ranty Bit: Monkey Island Special Edition? Coming Soon? Please?

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 14:42

Fans of Guybrush have much to look forward to in the coming weeks…

da-wolfdude 12 May, 2010 @ 14:35

They gave up on them a cupple of months ago…

Going to get Mushroom Wars, Hyperballoid and possibly Magic Ball.

Lantianer21 12 May, 2010 @ 14:35

Hey again Ross,
Nice update today :D finally BFBC2 DLC and Catan!
Thx for this :)

Jacko_the_lad 12 May, 2010 @ 14:36

There’s no one playing the RFG MP DLC anymore, so nobody buy that! D:

I might buy the SPECACT kit for BFBC2, so I can look hot. :P

My poor PSP GO :( Not even SCEE will support the system

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 14:41

I do know how you feel, it’s been a quiet few weeks but things are looking up for next week.

hey ross nice to see you back :D

Quick question dood i asked mike to see if he could dig any info about “Tales of Eternia” coming to the store i don’t suppose anythings come up?

tis the only game i want currently on my PSP go :(

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 14:54

Howdy Roxas – I know Mike has spoken to the Namco account manager about ToE, I’ll see if I can chase up any info.

@10 not in my region :(

Hmmmm Ok. not much for me again :(

Would be nice to be “blessed” with monkey island and PS1 Classics like USA store…

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 14:48

Wouldn’t it though?

There are no more planned Penny Arcade games unfortunately.

And still no Monkey Island???????? Any hints on when it’s due?

Someone copied some css underline into the post…

Hi Ross.
Do you know when we’re getting castlevania: symphony of the night or any castlevania for that matter.

Anyones that claims this is a “great” update are clearly lying.
US got modnation racing demo on the PSP which im playing at the mo.. good fun.

The only thing worth getting in the BFBC2 stuff.

Dave-The-Rave 12 May, 2010 @ 14:38

Not too good this week “Jecht” just Firstplay for me as usual.

for the dude asking for penny arcade 3 and 4, i have bad news…. they arent being made anymore. :( sad i know as i 100% ed 1 and 2 and i wanted them bad.
catan is a must download for me

And still we wait for Monkey Island…

AllytheBruce 12 May, 2010 @ 14:38

A very good selection indeed, hmm the choices

Darkscorpius 12 May, 2010 @ 14:38

Nice update. I’ll be checking out Rocket Knight and probably buying the Bioshock DLC.

Not much for me this week but thats probly a good thing after MW2 Maps and Feeding Frenzy last week and Red Dead Redemption and Modnation Racers next week :)

Just BBFC2 dlc and maybe Rocket Knight

Any word on Joe Danger release date? Seen it listed on ESRB website so can`t be too far off

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 15:13

Hehe. I can’t say about Joe Danger I’m afaid but like you said, if it’s listed on ESRB it can’t be far off, eh?

If someone is claiming that this is a great update, thats because there is something they want. Just because you don’t think it is, doesn’t mean no one else does.

Also, if you don’t buy critter crunch at THAT price, you officially have no soul. Buy it, its one of the best puzzle games of last year!

SpiderMike_X 12 May, 2010 @ 14:40

” but still no penny arcade 3 or 4″

yeah that would be because they have been cancelled.

@ dgnfly,

Its a digital service, there can’t be anything ‘valuable’.

Why is all the text on the bottom half the page underlined?

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 15:01

It’s being sorted at the moment – sorry if it’s messing with your eyes!

Worst update ever, no new games for PSP :-/. Who is responsible man for this? US store has EVERY week new games for PSP.

And Williams Pinball still not on PSN :-(.

DutchGameGod21 12 May, 2010 @ 14:41

Ross comes kickass also to the Netherlands (Dutch) store
and also do you know when konami’s assualt heroes comes to the eu store

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 15:03

I’m pretty sure Kick-Ass will eventualy be in all locales, they’re having a few localisation issues but the plan is to get it everywhere in the end.

awesomes! I’ve been looking forward to Rocket Knight :)

Cheers Ross, any ideas when the update will go live?

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 15:05

They’ve just pressed the big red button in the last 5 minutes, so you should see the new stuff start to filter in shortly.

markymillertime5 12 May, 2010 @ 14:41

“Admittedly it’s a quiet week for PSP”…………………i must’ve missed the loud weeks then!!!

All Sony have done moving the “update” to Wednesday is bring the disappointment forward.

US store has Modnation Racers PSP Demo, why not EU store? Grrrrr…

DiscoMcDisco 12 May, 2010 @ 14:42

Whoa… whats with all the underlining… it’s making my eye’s hurt ;)

Also, i’ve got a lot to catch up on store-wise… this is a nice extra bit of icing to the rest of what I plan on getting… Cheers Ross… send my regards to Mike… Maybe you should treat him to a Spa break or something… ;)

I will be getting the Bioshock 2 DLC. :D.

Man, where on earth is Monkey Island 1 Special Edition? The USA has had it for AGES! C’mon, please?!

Still no Monkey Island :'(

any news on release off raystorm HD and castle crashers for EU cause USA is probably getting them very soon and are we even getting the DLC from record of agrest war cause they damn game been out like half a year over here but no DLC and the game came out 2 weeks ago on US store and they getting a load off content

Is it just my browser but does after ‘Alternative Pop 1 Track Pack’ everything is underlined including the comments section?

Might be a HTML tag needed looking at maybe?
I’m on Firefox BTW.

wardragon989 12 May, 2010 @ 14:44

Woah why is everything underlined O.o

Good list but nothing there for me

Maybe it’s just my browser but I think you’re missing a closed bracket or whatever), e.g. somewhere in the code for this page. :/

Just after ‘Guitar Hero 5’ by the looks of it..Open tag.

Regardless, not a bad update at all.

Nice deal on Critter Crunch there..I’ll be sure to download Ep.6 of FirstPlay later.

i’ll ask, yet again, where’s the british game car jack streets?
it’s a sad state of affairs when a british developer can’t get their game released on the eu store.
with a recently deceased, less than 24hours ago, ps3, most of that is useless to me for the foreseeable future.
i was hoping scee would finally get their act together and release CJS this week.
i really should know better by now.

with valuable i meant full games not add-on stuff that is overpriced

thedarkjoker432 12 May, 2010 @ 14:45

@ dgnfly,

do you actually own that agrest game? or are you moaning for the sake of moaning?

Hey Ross!

How come PSN users in the Middle East don’t get MW2 DLC while both steam and XBOX live users in the M.E. do.

Why is it always Sony??

Its hard being a loyal fanboy when you’re in the UAE.

Ross McGrath 12 May, 2010 @ 15:12

Heya rakwarrior – we asked Activision last week about why they didn’t choose to release the pack in the UAE, but we’re still waiting on a response.
As soon as we know, we will do what we can to get the packs up if they give us the go ahead.
I’m afraid when it come to third-party content we can’t force the publishers to release everything everywhere if they choose not to and normally they have a good reason. If it were up to me and Mike, everyone would get everything all the time (and this is something we are constantly pushing for).

imajinetion 12 May, 2010 @ 14:46

Looks like someone made a poopie with HTML ;)
