Five new PlayStation Store releases you need to check out this week

Sonic Mania, Matterfall, Undertale and more, plus the rest of this week’s releases

This week’s range of PlayStation Store releases cater for a variety of tastes, be you an open-world warrior, a life-long platforming fan, twitch-shooter addict or JRPG veteran. Below are just five of the games launching this week, with the full release list below them in full.

1. Sonic Mania

Sega’s blue hedgehog returns to his roots in this all-new 2D platformer, designed to look, sound and most importantly feel like the classic 90’s entries (but with a modern era sheen).

2. Undertale

TITLE
Toby Fox’s award-winning indie darling finally arrives on PS4 and PS Vita, fusing retro visuals, quirky role-playing game foundations and reflex testing bullet hell inspired battle sequence. The result? Something rather wonderful.

  • Out: 15th August
  • Why you should play it: hilariously fourth-wall breaking humour, sharp writing and refreshingly unpredictable gameplay makes this an unforgettable RPG. Oh, and you can play the entire game without killing a soul, if you want…
  • Find out more: The story behind PS4 & PS Vita’s post-modern RPG Undertale.

3. Matterfall

Not sated with delivering us just one sci-fi shooter spectacular this year in Nex Machina, Housemarque returns with fast-paced side-scroller Matterfall. Studio fans will know what they’re in for: another prime cut of twitch-based, beautifully explosive action adventure.

4. Cities: Skylines PS4 Edition

The creative city builder starts construction on PlayStation 4 this week. Set your sights on building a shining metropolis or just play havoc with a warped version of a city: it’s your call.

5. Agents of Mayhem

Volition’s Saints Row series is famous for its ultra-humorous and bizarre take on the open world genre. In Agents of Mayhem, the studio sets its sights on enhanced agents and supervillains battling it out in a futuristic Seoul. Cue – you guessed it – mayhem.

  • Out: 18th August
  • Why you should play it: Build a three-strong team from the choice of a dozen agents, each with a unique set of skills, then get to swapping between the trio at any time for some creative chaos.
  • Find out more: Enhanced for PS4 Pro: Agents of Mayhem.

Hm. I think only Matterfall tempts me out of this week’s games but I can’t really buy games at present cos of grown up responsibilities and other tedious money-sapping reasons.

Can anyone confirm what happened to Plague Road for Vita? According to last week’s store update, it was meant to release on 11th August.

There were some issues with metadata, as Luc Bernard wrote on Twitter, so we have a delay.

And the game is going to struggle with Undertale being out. One of the BEST and POPULAR games on PC by the way. And yet, I’m getting sick of games being delayed again and again for months. It’s always like this with Vita games.

Finally City Skylines! I’ve let so many games I want pass by for this recently. Hopefully it will be worth it.

It will be worth it when they add all the dlc because loads of people are asking 4 dlc already for ps4 and xbox , as they say a game without dlc is just a half complete game and to not add all the dlc will be a very bad move by the developers.

Hopefully they will now it’s out on both consoles. I know I don’t be needing the disaster one yet, I’m great at killing my people without any assistance.

Hello. This is my first and probably the only comment/question here. Dear PS Europe, there are lots of good games coming this week, but where is Night Trap 25th Anniversary Edition? The game, physical edition by Limited Run, was sold out in minutes and I tried to find some information about European release, but no dice. Is the game coming at least to PSN and when? I’m pretty sure people will just ignore this question but I am still trying. Thank you for your time.

Looks like the first half of September. The EU release is taking longer due to the adding of languages for non-English speakers.

Great to have you back on PlayStation Sonic. Roll on tomorrow.

Bard’s Tale for PSV is a nice surprise, but I’ll believe it when it hit PSS :)

Any news about HBO GO release date?

Very unlikely due to licensing issues.

No news to share on this at the moment!

¿No Bard´s Tale? All the other games are out.

Might give the bards tale a go provided its cheap enough like the android version. I tried to play that version but aint really a fan of touchscreen controls

Why did you change the titles for these posts from “psn store releases for (date)” or whatever to “5 new Playstation games we got paid to advertise more than the others?” it can be confusing for people who just want to see what’s coming out.

I’ll be getting agents of mayhem for sure, I really want sonic mania and the bards tale but those might need to wait til I have funds.

I agree

Any news on the release date for the Afterbirth+ DLC for Binding of Isaac?

There’s a “preparation” patch available to download for it, but I can’t find anything relating to the release date.

Cheers.

When do we get Night Trap 25th Anniversary Edition in Finland? It was supposed to be available August 15th.

Hey all, as update, releases for a few games have pushed back to next week. Those are: Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma, Armello – Deluxe Edition, Hand of the Gods: SMITE Tactics and The Bard’s Tale: Remastered and Resnarkled. We’re removing them from the above list.

Ok. Thanks for the answer. I was looking for bard’s tale. I suppose i can wait one more week.
