Hi everyone,
Hope you are enjoying our Digital Comics Service, which launched last week.
Despite launching with over 550 titles, we’re not resting on our laurels. Oh no. We’ll be updating the Comic store each & every week with the latest & greatest content from the wonderful world of comics, and today is no exception. Here are the new releases for 22nd December:
- Ghost Rider (2005) #1 : The Road To Damnation #1- #6 – Marvel (£1.19/€1.49) Ages 15+
- The Fantastic Four (1961) #1 – #15 – Marvel (£1.19/€1.49) Ages 3+
- The Mighty Avengers (2007) #1 – #6 – Marvel (£1.19/€1.49) Ages 9+

For those of you who haven’t started using the service yet, it’s easy to get started. Just update your PSP with the latest firmware (6.20) and click the Digital Comics icon under the “Extras” column on PSP’s XMB menu to install the Reader. Then visit PlayStation Store on your PSP for a huge range of comics to download. Choose from the battling Super Heroes of Marvel, including Spider-Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four, to Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. You’ll find TRANSFORMERS and Star Trek from IDW, alongside characters from Titan, iVerse and 2000AD, as well as the latest underground sensations and works from local publishers.
You’ll even find a fantastic bunch of FREE comics to get you started.
We’ve also launched the Digital Comics website at www.playstationcomics.com in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and South Africa. Here you’ll be able to browse the catalogue at your leisure, see the latest updates & new additions, chat with like-minded fans in the forum and read some informative blog posts. You can even purchase & download comics using Media Go. You’ll also find Help & FAQ pages to get you up & running.
Sincere apologies for our Irish friends. We are still working on sorting out the technical problems, and we will let you know as soon as this is done.
For those countries where Digital Comics was not launched yet, we are planning further stores roll out next year. Keep your eye on playstation.com and the Digital Comics website for the very latest news and updates!
The next Digital Comics content update is planned for the 7th January.

Will Classic Transformers be the entire comic run or is it only intended to go to a certain point? I had well over 200 issues of Transformers but sold them (I was young and very, very foolish!!!. I`ll echo #1 but a PS3 comic reader would be great so we can really appreciate some of the classic artwork

I’ve had a look with two of the free comics on offer, and I have to say that it’s very nice. Everything looks clean, navigates well and supports music too. It’s great, and if we get some Alan Moore or Dark Horse on there I’ll be using it a lot.

I’ve got a Japanese PSP, and can’t get the UK comic reader to work on it, despite installing via my PS3 (and can’t understand the Japanese on their web page)..
Any news/hints on that? I’d love to d/l some comics!

Hi richUK,
UK’s Digital Comics application will not be downloaded into Japanese model of PSP unfortunately. Japan has a different type of comic reader.
Ravenblade86 explained perfectly, thanks.

I have already purchased several comics from the store and am very happy with the quality, it does have to be said that seeing them on the big screen in HD would be great too as sometimes I need to zoom around a little.
Overall though I am very impressed – well done! (would be great if all the comics were 79p though!)

More comics for me to spend my money on!
Really glad to see it looks like we will be getting a weekly Prog from 2000AD even if it is later than the print version.
Can wait to check out Wormwood either, but are these issues of Wormwood coming with the audio commentary that Ben Templesmith was recording? Or is later down the line?
@4 richUK: Don’t know that you will be able to get round that problem, Japan has a totally different digital comics service and a different digital reader. When you installed fw6.20 it detected that it was Japanese hardware and updated it for the Japanese service.

Actually, nevermind that question about Wormwood. Just downloaded the first issue and it does indeed include the Audio Commentary, and I still only had to pay £0.79, fair to say my mind has just be blown!

I would be really interested in buying these except I have no intentions of ever buying a PSP.
You are losing my cash not supporting the PS3 with this.

Notice Classic Transformers is missing #3 & #9. Any reason why? If memory serves me right #3 was Iron Giant or a similar title so although this was almost a stand-alone story can`t understand why its not on there yet. Also, what will happen with the crossover stories (GI Joe, etc)?
I`d also like to see Dark Horse comics on there at some point and hopefully DC (not sure Marvel would approve though)

Hi Mayumi,
There are no comic shops within a 50km radius of where I live so the digital reader is a godsend. Please let the team know I love their work.
I was a little pessimistic about the reader and the logistics of reading comics on the PSP however my concerns have been put to rest.
I would love to see some more X-Men books on the store. Further to that I would love the entire Civil War saga to show up at some point.
Thanks for your time,
Dutch

i’d love to see some dark horse stuff, especially the star wars books, all we get in the non comic book shops is kids comics.
one thing i think would be great for the comic store is to have a special section for crossovers where you can get all the issues of a crossover from multiple books, it could be a good jumping on point for many titles you might not otherwise read.
and just want to remind you we still want some dc action and a ps3 version
